    This was definitely a different type of video for me so I'd love to hear what you thought in the comments below!
    "After a car wreck on the winding Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a perky Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality."

    Obsessed with the nature of 'performance' in this film. From the old couple at the airport suddenly being still and silent in the car, to the singer-who-is-really-acting-in-a-movie, to the Cowboy, there's so much to unpack about how Lynch and co use performances in the narrative of the film to interrogate the form of the film itself. Can't stop thinking about this movie! Thanks for the essay.

    Beautiful melding of your consciousness with the collective consciousness of Mulholland Drive. Truly one of the most evocative, endlessly mysterious and uncanny films of all time. ❤️

    Mulholland Drive was also the location of a crime scene, near the Manson murders, so had a ghostly atmosphere. Lynch often used locations that were the places of crime scenes. For Twin Peaks, a lot of locations in WA were crime scenes related to the Green River Killer, who was still on the loose during the time of filming. This created a sense of authenticity and real-life horror to the film-making process.

    I'm looking forward to your future work. Got here from the Magnolia essay and I am so excited to see someone really GET the depth of these movies and reflect that in the exploration. It's hard to do what others haven't already and you're hitting real beauty. Thank you for your work so far and in really reveling in the music too! ^_^

    I don't think this video would have landed so well if I hadn't clicked on it from the sidebar of the Nerdwriter one. Well played. I feel called-out.

    BTW, Camilla is the one who is dreaming. She put a hit on the blonde girl who 'sole' the part, and who 'stole' her boyfriend-director. Diane in Camilla's dream represents the girl that she had murdered.

    Very creative! I'll be honest the film didn't do a lot for me, I was really invested in the story and then it got completely dropped after the theatre scene, which I get was kind of the point but it still frustrated me

      Twin Perfect recently did a video which I think adds another layer to the film and addressed for me why I had a niggling sense that what we were shown in the film was more symbolic than literal.

    I feel like this one didn't really play to your strengths. What was the purpose? You didn't explain the movie as you usually would and it didn't become the viral hit you hoped for so it kinda missed the mark on all fronts.

    • @FramesOfEmpathy
      @FramesOfEmpathy  2 роки тому +2

      Instead of explaining the movie directly I tried to have the experience of the video mirror what the movie is about (i.e. the narrator losing his mind trying to make the “best” video essay like Diane is losing her mind trying to make it in Hollywood). Definitely more of an experiment than anything, but I had a lot of fun making it.
