Well that goes what I've always said that just because a movie may or may not be bad doesn't mean the music is bad I've got quite a few so called bad movies but have great scores Superman 3 Superman the Quest for peace Jaws 3D and Jaws the Revenge all bad movies but all have great scores that are some of my favorites not top 10 favorite but definitely top 50
Ralph Roshia I enjoyed king of the monsters even though I understand the criticism, but no matter your opinion of the movie itself you can’t deny how amazing the score was.
Some of my favorite music composers are of course John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Henry Jackman, John Powell, Alan Silverstri, Michael Giacchino, and Alexander Desplat. I love all of the work that they do!
Alrighty, let me give this ranking a shot. And I'm very passionate about film scores so this may be a long comment!!! 10.) Skyfall (any bond theme honestly) 9.) The Force Awakens (such iconic themes such as March of the Resistance, Rey's theme which in my eyes is the most underrated of all of john Williams themes, Kylos theme, and finally the Jedi steps) 8.) Lord of The Rings Return of the kings 7.) Inception 6.) Pirates of The Caribbean first one 5.) Mission Impossible Fallout 4.) The Dark Knight Rises (the ending music is out of this world as well as the prison rise theme) 3.) The Rise of Skywalker ( Criminally underrated score first off Williams includes some of the best themes into the final while building off of some old ones, for instance, the Duel theme takes musical notes and motifs from Duel of the fates yet does something unique with it, also you have returning themes such as the march of the resistance and of course the theme with Rey and the voices is beyond beautiful and some of the greatest music ever created in my eyes. Finally how Williams was able to mend Rey's theme and the Force theme at the end of the film and make them one is incredible and it shows such planning from Williams. Also, I believe that because the themes mend so well it brings me to believe that Abrams told Williams that he planned on having Rey become a Skywalker during the creation of the force awakens and Williams purposefully made Rey's theme match up so well as the force theme is often referred to as Lukes/Anakin's theme. Might also explain why Williams didn't like the last Jedi as it would have contradicted his music by making Rey a nobody instead of a Skywalker. 2.) The Last Crusade (I mean the regular Indy themes as well as the Last Crusade theme which is exceptional) 1.) Revenge of the sith (what can I say about this score, it has the main theme, the force theme/binary sunset, Anakin and Obi-Wan/Battle of the heroes which has duel of the fates the force theme and so many more within a unique and new theme its truly incredible, Anakin's betrayal, Padames funeral, I mean the list goes on and of course like all star wars films it has the force theme which is the greatest theme of all time!!)
One of my personal favourites is easily The Shining! The music goes so well with the type of movie the shining is and part of what makes the shining so weird and scary is the music!
Same man. I was disappointed when The Academy didn't even nominate Alan Silvestri for Endgame. It's my favourite score from 2019 as well as the MCU. Portals, The Real Hero, Main on End.. you name it. There were so many musical and melodious pieces. He used Cap's theme so many times and so perfectly. Besides, it spun so many leitmotifs like Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and Captain Marvel's themes, Morag theme from Guardians, Odin's death music from Ragnarok. And almost each time he used his score from the Avengers' movies, he wasn't just reusing but made sure it had some significance. And oh, there was a nod to the Back To The Future music in it! Great list by the way!
Definitely one of the best film score composers of all time, but (don't get me wrong, I absolutely love his misic) he doesn't even even come close to giants as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and so on
Honorable mentions: Interstellar Inception Mission Impossible The Incredibles Guardians of the Galaxy How to Train your Dragon The 007 theme Narnia The Dark Knight Rocky John Wick Antman Sherlock Holmes Kill Bill Spiderman 3 Wonder Woman Lion King Captain America: the Winter Soldier Game of Thrones even though it's not a movie
5. Spider-Man: Far From Home Michael Giacchino 4. Star Wars: John Williams 3. Inception: Hans Zimmer 2. How to train your dragon: John Powell 1. the Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Ennio Morricone
My top 10 1. Pirates of the caribbean 2. Avengers 3. Lord of the rings 4. Bvs batman theme 5. Tdk theme 6. Obiwan vs anikan theme 7. Duel of fates 8. Harry potter 9. Star wars force theme 10. Spiderman theme
Completely agree with your Silvestri take; it was a masterclass in theme blending, grandiose, truly epic, memorable scoring. He captures every single moment, as he did with Infinity war, in a way where you can listen to the score and remember the scene like you're watching it in real time. It's a cinematic achievement in music making and its plain sinful that he didnt get a nomination
Favorite Film Scores 1. Punch-Drunk Love/Jon Brion 2. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind/Jon Brion 3. Synecdoche New York/Jon Brion 4.Magnolia/Jon Brion 5. There Will Be Blood/ Jonny Greenwood I don’t know if you can tell but my favorite composer is Jon Brion
Nice list. Do you have a favourite director by any chance also? 😜 I thought Greenwood's score to There Will Be Blood was good and really set the mood of the film (if a tad repetitious) but it was overshadowed by how perfect the Brahms was over the end credits.
Disappointed there’s no mention of Tron Legacy, but glad you included Man of Steel For me, in no particular order, it’s Tron Legacy Revenge of the Sith Man of Steel Infinity War Thor Ragnarok Pirates of the Caribbean Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse How To Train Your Dragon 2 Kung Fu Panda The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

No particular order. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Avengers: Endgame Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark The Dark Knight Rises Back to the Future Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring Toy Story Jurassic Park
Yes. I can't believe it's not on the list. I'd personally take out the Superman and Man Of Steel score and add The Lion King and The Fountain (very underrated movie with a great score by Clint Mansell)
Fuck no. Hans Zimmer ruined film scores for ever. And it's not because he suck. It's because he had his very unique style, which was very cool and interesting when first discovered in his earlier work, but then he started making more and more, and they all started to sound very much the same. And Hollywood got crazy about his style, so all the prudecers of almost every new blockbuster film want him to do the soundtrack, they want his style. Meanwhile Hans Zimmer starts to train young composers, and all of them start to develop a very very Hans Zimmer like sound. So like I said, all the prudecers of almost every new blockbuster film want Hans Zimmer to do the soundtrack for the film, but he is way to busy, so they call his students, and all of his students have a Hans Zimmer style. And every blockbuster producers want either Hans Zimmer or his students which are practically Hans Zimmer! That's why, every Movie soundtrack today, sounds EXACTLY THE SAME. There is no originality any more. Every movie is just a Hans Zimmer style.
My top 10 (I may be cheating by lumping trilogies and duologies together) 10) Dragonheart 9) The Amazing Spider-man 8) Spider-man 3 7) Star Wars prequel trilogy 6) Dunkirk 5) The Shawshank Redemption 4) Joker 3) Avengers Infinity War and Endgame 2) Batman v Superman 1) The Lord of the Rings trilogy Honourable mentions to Ramin Djawadi on Game of Thrones and Murray Gold on Doctor who (TV shows)
I really enjoy your videos mainly because of your ranking videos since it gives scope for a lot engaging discussion and fun to analyse and study movies more than what meets the eye as a layman.
@@pepsiman6890 Well I usually prefer the horror scores because they give a creepy atmosphere. Alot of people will usually name upbeat scores like E.T or Star Wars
@@traviskugler8501 I can't recall psycho and I rewatched it a couple months ago. The shower scene has iconic music but it's not something I'd listen too beyond the film unlike jaws and Halloween.

@@albynorthwest7383 honestly I need to watch that film. But I'll definitely watch it and listern to the score. You should listern to the thing by morricone. It's amazing suspenseful soundtrack by him.
Yea I'd say he even overshadows the old greats like Korngold or Steiner on that front. It helped that he cut his teeth orchestrating musicals. Apparently James Horner complained that only he and Williams would submit full scores for films.
1. Star Wars 2. Harry Potter 3. Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Indiana Jones 5. Jurassic Park 6. Batman (1989) 7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 8. Interstellar 9. How to Train Your Dragon 10. Inception

Interstellar, Dunkirk, Punch-Drunk Love, How To Train Your Dragon, The Avengers, In Bruges, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Gladiator.

The How to train your dragon score by John Powell is without a doubt one of the most underrated film scores ever. It of course has plenty of fans and love but not it doesn't get enough attention that it should. It literally gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. Depending on the scene and context in which it's used in each film, it can have me in awe, it gave put a huge smile on my face, it fills me with excitement and most of all it makes me cry with tears of sadness and tears of pure joy
Star Wars The Phantom Menace has such an underappreciated score. Duel Of The Fates is clearly the best, and The Sith Spacecraft & The Droid Battle is great too
I don't really have a ranking of my favorite movie soundtracks, but I can mention some of the ones that come to mind: The Lord of the Rings Harry Potter Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Star Wars Spider-Man trilogy The Lone Ranger Kung Fu Panda 2 Avengers: Endgame Home Alone Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Overall, my favorite composer is John Williams, closely followed by Hans Zimmer, and then Danny Elfman. I also love Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Michael Giacchino and many others.
Really great list and video Sean 1. Star Wars Saga (John Williams is the greatest composer ever and I think his best score is Revenge of the Sith) 2. TRON: Legacy Daft Punk 3. The Avengers/Age of Ultron/Infinity War/Endgame (Alan Silvestri is high up in greatest composers the Avengers theme is indescribable, Brian Tyler and Danny Elfman did amazing on Age of Ultron too) 4. Back to the Future Alan Silvestri

Can't think of my top 10 but one thing to note, some scores give you a different feel when at the movie theater. Like a few years ago I was at a showing of the original Halloween and listening to the score full blast gave me a creepy, eerie feeling that I never had watching it before on TV.
One of my favourite scores is Star Trek the motion picture which doesn’t get a lot of love when it it just as good as others on people’s lists. I even love the movie. It is very underrated.

And almost each time he used his score from the Avengers' movies, he wasn't just reusing but made sure it had some significance. And oh, there was a nod to the Back To The Future music in it! Great list by the way!
Can anyone agree with me that John Williams may be one of the best composers of all time.😊
I would imagine most here would agree
Well he's made the most memorable film scores. Hell he did the theme song for "Lost in Space" back in the sixties.
John Williams is definitely one of the best.
Definitely one of the best film score composers of all time, but (don't get me wrong, I absolutely love his misic) he doesn't even even come close to giants as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and so on

POTC at #1. Man of taste.
The Nightcrawler score is incredibly underrated.

@@CaughtInTheLoop ye, i agree
Anyone who loves The Lion King score should also hear The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
