Bryan Robson sits down alongside Sam Allardyce & Natalie Pike to discuss his legendary career in football from his playing days at Manchester United where he won 9 honours to completing the great escape as West Brom manager.
The former Manchester United player talks about his time at the club, why Bruno Fernandes isn't a great captain and Manchester United's managerial recruitment over the years.
Bryan also chats about his time in management and how he was convinced to do THAT Middlesbrough player/manager photoshoot as well as why keeping West Brom up is one of his greatest ever achievements.

Bryan Robson a world class player unselfish,, If he had been selfish he would not have had injuries. Truly a great player Gets my vote
Robson was a one-man team. Phenomenal all-action midfielder, he could pass, shoot, head, score. And what a ferocious tackler, the ultimate hardman. And, if all of this wasn't enough, the most influential captain on the field I have seen. When Robbo demanded, his teammates responded. At his peak would be worth 150-200 milllion at today's prices. Rice, as competent as he is, is a pale shadow of Robson in his prime. He can only dream of aspiring to the heights of one of England's greatest players. What Utd would give to have Robbo in today's spoiled, overhyped, overpaid, underperforming team.
i was born in 1974 and robbo was my first hero as a kid watching united and still my fave united player ever , what i would give to see robbo parter mainoo now .

Good post ! Same. I'm 56, Robbo was my first hero and favorite player for United. I remember him walking out at OT and thinking, now that's a player..... Other players idolised hm to. Quiet master.

Robbo at the peak of his powers was absolutely up there with the very best players in the world. His power, competitiveness, drive and ability were awesome when you saw him play. He could kick Maradona off the park, finish as well as Boniek and out pass Platini.

@@dondamon4669Only scored over 100 goals for Manchester United. Captained England 60 times. But he was always injured. Seen him destroy Platini, Maradona, Schuster but he was always injured what tool.!!!!
@@dondamon4669off the top of my head without checking I think it's 90 caps 26/27 int goals not bad considering he was always injured. Was too brave at times, a great player.

I grew up playing football for a local team with Bennys Nightclub as our home pitch! And Robbo owned that nightclub.
Plus I grew up round The Cliff so to me Robson is a massive legend.

As a Palace fan, it's a shame (and a surprise) how poorly Bryan remembers the events of The Great Escape. Norwich had it in their own hands but lost the plot getting battered 6-0 at Fulham. Southampton took the lead vs Man United, who turned it around to win 2-1. I was at The Valley watching us lead 2-1 away to Charlton on the verge of survival, until they equalised in the 82nd minute, taking great joy in sending us down. That goal is what kept West Brom up.
Declan Rice but better. Robbo had so much. Fantastic Player was bryan Robson. World Class.

I’m so glad to hear Sam mention Woodward in this light. Everyone knows he was a huge part of Uniteds downfall since Gill left, him and the glazers. But you don’t often hear mainstream knock him.
Woodward was the prime cause of Utd's deterioration, and of course the Glasers were to blame for appointing him and not sacking him when it was obvious he was wrecking the club.

Not sure about that foreign manager shout, Capello didn't work, thought Sven did a fine job during his time, could have been better, but overall I enjoyed his spell as boss. Convinced we haven't had anyone better since. McLaren, Capello, Hodgson and now Southgate
For me Robbo still doesn’t get enough credit for the Stella player he was. God only knows what his worth would be today. A complete player if ever there was one. Is last ever professional game (I think) was as player manager for Middlesbrough at Highbury. Old and racked with injury’s he was still the best player on the pitch by a mile. Will always be my favourite player…..just above Eric 😁

Allardyce is a legend in his own head. The only time he had the reins of a top club, in Newcastle, he got sacked after just 6 months. Could never cut it at a big club, just came in to rescue smaller clubs in lower divisions and help prevent relegation.

Love the podcast generally, but without sounding all ‘Joey Barton’ , Natalie is painfully out of touch. She’s always struggling a bit when older players and managers reminisce, but on this occasion her interjections were particularly awkward. For a credible podcast not sure what she’s bringing to the party to be honest.
Bruno is vocal and doesnt shy away from criticizing his teammates. Also captain isnt the only leader in the team.

What an embarrassing podcast! First and only time I have tuned in. Big Sam just bumbles along with no real imput and the presenter has quite plainly not done any research and knows absolutely nothing. Felt sorry for Robbo.

I disagree. My parents moved from their hometown of Cardiff to Derby long before I was born so that's where I've spent my whole life and I'm English, end of.

Can't Man City afford to pay a sound engineer to set up their microphones correctly for their propaganda channel?. Its funny how certain managers win nothing in their careers yet are doing "a top job", yet others get a truckload of criticism. With Alladyce, it's also a its a case of the Emperors new clothes. There are pundits in the game that will talk highly of him but if you take a closer look, theres very little there. Sam never played for a big club and all he won were the championships of lower league football as a player and for him to have a go at other players is a absolute joke to be honest....
