Even if the MK2 lost....its still wins because its a MK2 so there 😆
Thank you man 👍
Was thinking before read comments i would still want mk2
Testify!!
No disrespect to the Mustang but they are pretty much a daily sight on the roads here in central Scotland, any clean Mk2 is a way more special sight regardless of power.
True though
Growing up in the 70’s I couldn’t wait for Saturdays ‘world of sport’ and watch the RAC Rally and other motorsport events like Rally cross. The Escort was and still is my favourite rally car,be it the MKI or MKII It’s just a joy to see it being put through it’s paces
I used to go and watch the R.A.C Cropton Forrest stage in north Yorkshire in the late 70's. Just a ride up from my home in Kirkby Moorside and just go and watch on a freezing winter night for free. Awesome
Cropton forrest not that far from me. I am middlesbrough.
Lee. I used to love watching the rally driving also on World of sport.
I'd rather the MK2 escort even if it'd lost this race
@Mona Torkia now That’s a bold statement. There are PLENTY of inlines loosing to V’s out there. 😆
people underestimate power to weight ratio... i like older cars because they are smaller and lighter
I bought a brand new D.T 125R in 1991 fully learner restricted and it would do 0-30 quicker than an XR2. purely 'cause it weighed less than the bloke riding it.
True......
They're also A Lot More Fun To Drive!!!!!
@@kevinbartram5302 my main bike isn't quite so light - knocking around the 1/4 ton mark, but it's power to weight ratio is pretty good with 175 gee gees (Gen 1 Busa)
I like newer ones that won't fold up like a paper plane.
Respect to that Escort tho.
Old fords never die, they just get faster.
And more expensive!!
Your Right.
Neat seeing Lauren behind the wheel of baby blue
Engine and exhaust sound of Escort is enough for win race with many cars.
The gear shifts alone make it a ton quicker
And that esky is a violent work of art purpose built maniac machine 🤩🤩🤩
The best thing about this video is.....Father and Daughter having fun!....👍❤
No surprises for me here but great to see Lauren driving the first round. Mustang would need close on 700hp to equal power/weight ratio
639hp would be required
@@MrParker300 Ill go with that Jim :)
yep 800kg diffrence!
Gearbox also count. Regulmar road H patern vs Rally dog box
Not only beat it in a straight line the mustang would not keep up in a tight winding road. V8 commodore couldn't shake my Escort thru the Adelaide Hills So he bowed his head and pulled over.
Owyergoinmateorite? As a fellow Adelaide Hills hoon, I mean law abiding road user I respect those drivers who are kind enough to pull over and let us get on with it. I've not owned an Escort yet but I've had a lot of cars that can hold their own against almost anything I've come up against. I always enjoyed my wee Datsun 1000 with a hot 1200cc (my first modified engine build) and a CIG locked diff. I could keep tickling the big boys much to their frustration, they had me on the straight bits, but I'd always catch back up through the corners. Driving through Lenswood in my MK1 Golf one day I was going fast but only about 6/10ths when one of those Subaru emergency vehicles caught me (no lights flashing) so I thought right I'm off. After about ten minutes of really pushing it, they were still there, so I was the one to pull over. I was handed my arse well and truly but I enjoyed every second of it.
I'm biased but I believe we have access to some of the best drivers roads just minutes from the city centre.
Stay safe mate, and keep having fun. 👍🙃
It's no surprise that the Escort won. 800 kg is a big difference. Great video. Thank you 👍🇬🇧
I had 4 mk1's 25 years ago. This video has made me want them back
Frank and Lauren, I am a rally nut and in the past have worked on many of MK2 rally cars on the ards peninsula, but I will never tire of hearing you talking about Baby Blue, keep er lit.....
As a die hard mustang fan, I’ve owned two, the Mark 2 escort is one badass car.
Even if they gave me the mustang i would have trade it for a millington mk2 all the way long :D
355BHP and 1 tonne versus 435BHP and 1.8 tonnes... Love that Mk2 Escort - what a beastie!!!
And the Baby E sounded so good too....🤩😍
NOT REALLY A FORD FAN BUT I THINK I AM NOW AFTER HEARING THAT MK2 ESCORT, WOW WHAT A SOUND
Original Mustang weighed 1100kg, it has suffered from too many burgers & donuts !
Great video Frank and Lauren, thank you 😊
The sound of that escort is sublime 👏🏻👍🏻🙂
That escort is a beast.
The millington engine alone in that mk 2 is worth more than the mustang🤣
Has Roy got a dyno jet dyno as those figures are a little inflated for a N/A engine.
Very very cool race tho and nice to see old skool vs new.
Much Respect 😎
Depends on the opinion of the one with the money. Its worth zero to some
@@llennon73 eh what now? He's talking about the actual value of each thing
@@retro80s80 The 2.5 Millington in its highest spec is indeed 355bhp
@@TheBlaert Don't bother with that kinda people man.. He doesn't get it and he doesn't know the diffence between facts and opions. I have no use for a violin and i hate the bloody things but a Stradivarius is still worth a million bucks no matter how you look at it.
You must be so proud of Kelly for her skills as a driver. She is such a petrol head. You can see just how focused she is when trying to get off the line. Maybe dad needs to build her a rally car of her own. 👌
met these 2 in carlow a couple of years back. both absolutely down to earth and are the real deal. great to see Lauren driving. she could be the next big female driver.
That was awesome.... not only to look at, but to listen to... power to weight is easy, gear ratios and wind drag goes over my head...
Brilliant to see Lauren take you on!
Gotta love a tuned MK2. Sounds great, with a great looking engine bay, far more interesting than the Mustangs. And although the Mustang has considerably more power and torque than the Escort, it's all about power to weight, not to mention a sequential box, compared to a standard manual. I do love Mustangs, but to me they ended around '70-'71. Given a choice between these two cars in the video, then hands down I'd take the MK2. However if the choice was between this Escort, and say a sorted Boss 302, circa 1970, then the decision would be much harder.
Nice kit, both. But I'm old school and I don't think 2,5 litre is anything to do with 1977 Escort. Cosworth BDA 1800, yes. 2.5 litre is a hot rod, a "special project". I hillclimbed against Colin Bond's Ford Australia works Escort 40 years ago, and I have long been a huge fan of these little fun machines.
As we watch, there’s messages being sent, “we got an ol’ escort, do ya fancy a go?” Kelly motorsport presents “baby blue vs this n that” here we come….👍👍
Fingers crossed 🤞
Yes please. Any good mk escort 2shells for sale
What a weapon that escort is 💪💪
Class seeing Lauren driving it. 👍
Not really surprising, but I know which one I'd have for a daily driver .
Great video 😊
Daily driver, fun day, or even parked in your living room, the Escort is a swiss army knife of cars, the only downside is you'll most of your time answering questions when out.
I'll be back! That was good:)
👏 awesome. Would be amazing to see a rematch round a circuit 👍 escort would still whip it but would be a cracking vid 😁
Would love to see more challenging racing like a Evo Delta intergrale❤️
Yes please. That would make great viewing.
Escort would still win unless the Delta was heavily modified, as stock they put out something like 230bhp, still a very quick road car even today, be interesting to see the Escort against something like a Strato's or Metro 6R4.
I did not expect any other outcome then what happend here.😎😎🤘🤘
As soon as I saw the power to weight ratio
@@steventhr Yep. The only thing the mustang is better at is top speed.
Good girl Lauren!
Be nice to see Baby Blue up against a good historic spec BDA MK2?
Absolutely Phenomenal Car Video All The Best To Everyone In Team's.
Trinidad & Tobago misses this car more than you could possibly imagine!!!!
And we miss you ❤️
Absolutely no contest. Bloody awesome !
Power to weight ratio 💪
cool fun stuff, see you, Lauren and Baby Blue in San Marino
I’ve got the mustang ,love it to bits however the Escort was always going to nail it.Escort amazing car.
And the Escorts got a Millington Diamond Engine, which is English and made not far from where I live, know the guy well. His hobbies include an Harrier Plane which saw time in the Falklands War.
Cool test
Jeeeezzzźzzz. That's quick Frank ! Nice !!
Love to see (and hear) a TR7 V8 works spec in the same drag race!
That and the Metro 6R4 aye.
Awesome👍💪🇮🇲. And Lauren got the jump on the start both times I reckon…..👍👍👍
🚨WHITE KNIGHT ALERT🚨WHITE KNIGHT ALERT🚨
I don't know much about the escort but just Wow, this little car is FAST
I love this video!
Next, compare repair cost for headlight , wing, bonnet - front corner area. Another win. Thanks for the video.
But if he compared maintenance & tyres with the Mustang, Baby Blue is the looser.
This is like watching Usain Bolt racing Peter Kay.
😅😅👌🏽
Good stuff mate .Nothing like old school .Cheers
One of Mr Millingtons works of art under the bonnet 👌🏻😎
I almost thought the 2017 car was gonna come next week 😂
Never doubted the Escort for a second😉
One of my favourite cars of all time. Dreams are made escorts.
Cool as and glad the Escort won even tho I love Mustang 😎
Absolutely love this
Frank,That Mustang needs to go rallying.I'd love to see it in action!
Only If Frank want to come last
To be honest, that was the exact opposite of what I expected....
Those mustangs are 4.8 to 60 in perfect conditions. Normal tarmac it’s more like 5.2-5.5 . That escort walked it.
This could be the start of a brilliant series to see what could beat the escort
Hardly an Escort is it, other than the bodyshell.
@@weallfollowmanutd …… so what do you call it? It’s an Ford escort the body is the car…. You can get a Ford Mustang and put a Diesel engine it’s still a Ford Mustang just with a diesel…. 🤦♂️
@@M135iboost that's not even a close comparison. A Mustang with a Diesel engine, is a production car if it's sold that way. That Escort is a rally car with a sequential gearbox. Has no bearing to a Ford Escort.
@@weallfollowmanutd no bearing to a Ford escort? That’s odd it seems to have a Ford escort body shell. Which does resemble a Ford escort.
@@weallfollowmanutd The engine is based on a pinto block, the suspension is escort, the back axel is baby atlas, the only thing that isn't escort is the cylinder head and gearbox.
Both absolutely great cars 👍🏼😉
Smashin video, old ford's never die, they just burn the ass off those newer contenders.
After you've spent vast amounts of money on them......
The MK2 even sounds better! It reminded me so much of the good ole days of Weber 45s.
Owners of the Mk2 in 1977 thought it was this fast... Amen.
Ten years from now the Mk2 escort will have doubled in value and the Mustang will be worth half of what it cost now.
Nothing against the Mustang but that’s just the way it is.
Even now it's hard to find Escort mk2 whit good frame.
Aye especially if you own the mk2 rs2000 😮💨
That was awesome
The only thing on the Escort that's 1977 is it's shape and possibly it's rear lights
this is totally amazing
That gearbox in the Esky tho. I gotta get me one of those!!! 👍👍❤️❤️👌
Would slicks and a prepped surface do any damage to the Escort driveline? It would be cool to see it do a proper pass
Only one way to find out 😜
Sequential box made all the difference there.
Frank, I think it’s time you got Lauren her own badly blue and get her out on the stages
2,5l, sequential, 15” rims, oh yeah, that’s a 1977 Escort.
🤣🤣 literally the only thing still escort is the body 🤣
Sure is, his escort just how he likes it for his use and his video, big emphasis on HIS you custom build to suit your purpose.
Not trying to hide the fact it’s highly modified guys. Love it all the same 👍
800kg makes a difference. Nice to see the little mk2 kicking arse though.
yes this is stupid drag race. Mustang has little more power but Escort is 800kg less
Love it 👍, power to wait ratio
Entertaining. The gearbox on the Escort was worth 3 car lengths on it's own, but it probably would have won it with an 'ordinary' gearbox.
i had no doubt when i saw the millington sticker! that was a whooping
355bhp, 1000Kg. Imagine how that feels on a track. That's supercar power to weight without a porky 1700kg kerb weight to fight in the corners.
Nissan GTiR Pulsar (Sunny) might be a bit closer and within similar genre. Go the Millington!
I owned one years ago (GTiR). Great fun car, especially in the wet and it was no slouch, but give me a GRP4 with a Milly any day. The GTiR's main issue is the engine is way too far forward and can become rather pushy (prone to understeer) in slippy conditions. As long as it isn't being driven close to the limit the handbrake is your best friend and a lot of fun - with the added bonus of shushing chatty passengers. 🙃👍
More of these videos 👍🏻 think an Audi RS6 would be a close race
but just because of the awd, not the weight and the power, but i think the escort easy wins.
@@klausg.6186 hopefully we’ll see
Well driven Lauren
The mk2 gear change sweet .What a Beast .
When I did my apprenticeship, one of my bosses said any road car pulling a 12sec 1/4 mile is stupidly fast. That mustang stock was ridiculously fast 20 years ago... But even with time and technology, that escort would destroy it on corners, and alot more fun.
But the times have changed hey...
I really want my MkII back! Stolen in Glasgow in 1996 and never seen again..😫😫
That sort of pain never goes, I still hurt when I think of my Pug 205 GTi that got stolen in 1993 😢
more vids dude pls 🤘🏻
The MK2 is never going to lost my dad races a MK2 engine in our stock car and it has some go with it
2.5 millington fuel injected , sequential box , geared for tarmac , what ever the diff is geared to 4.1 possibly
There is not a lot that could beat the escort in a drag race
Would be good to compare to a 6r4 an old Group B super car on a stage
There is heaps that could beat that escort..
It reminds me of when I took bets with my little Golf GTI Phase 1 against big cars on a small forest road full of turns. I won all the time with just the 110 hp of my golf!!
brilliant frank and his daughter wow
That's why I love my Suzuki Swift Sport. 138 hp is not that much, but 970 kg make the difference. 🙂
Had an Ignis sport. Bit of a giant slayer too.
Never in doubt!
Simply fantastic
dude even before you you turned a wheel the mk2 wins. what an awesome bit of kit that is!
Fair enough, the Mustang has cup holders, air con and all that...but it loeked like a snail compared to the Mk2!
Besides...any old Escort could stall on the line, but still win on cool points.
Are you even close to being serious, calling that modern race car a "1977" Mk2 Escort?
I'm guessing even the shell is a new build.
