The Instigators are without a doubt one of the best punk bands of the 1980s. Musically, they are excellent, on the level of the best songs of Subhumans and Peter and the Test Tube Babies: strong songs and choruses, excellent melodies on the guitar, deep and intelligent lyrics (about the lyrics the same cannot be said for PTTB, despite their excellent songs) and with good elements of heavy-metal. The Instigators also introduced a new aesthetic, simple, gentle but also effective, to their album covers. It is surprising with what power and casualness they play at the same time, and the singer's voice and way of singing is very suggestive and penetrating. In 1988, I did an interview with them in my French fanzine Temps Modernes. The guys were very kind to answer my questions. I still have a lot of respect for that band, which may not have seen the success and recognition it deserved, but which remains in many ways very original and enchanting. I have nothing but praise and congratulations for that band and I'm very glad to have met them in my life.
Had it on vinyl in 1985. Cannot recommend these folks enough! The blood is on yer handz! Also YER NOTTTT FREEEEEEEEE

one of the first bands i listened to on a personal stereo.... in early 80's.... used to have a smoke ...walk the dog.... in the rain was the best.... you would not meet many folks......

@@nomisvagabond139 i was born in '68,so,the 80s were my time. Music was all around,pop scene was cheesy,synthetic sounds dominated but underground was at his peak. My biggest love was Hardcore and punk,but i loved other styles too, post punk, noise, anything that was loud and guitar driven. But PUNK was the KING. Still is.
Quality band did see em once with subhumans, but I did swap my instigators t-shirt for a ripcord t-shirt with the lead singer of MDC at a gig at the clarendon hotel back in the late eighties

I once owned a tape by (instigators) live 1983 at vaults bar (Bradford)I played it until it wore out ..amazingly powerful band ..they need more of a mention when it comes to mentioning the 2nd wave of punk (ie) uk82!!

It's an earworm, compared to CHAOS UK or DISORDER, this guys sound pop. But great one. Had it on tape when it was fresh. And when i was fresh.
Seen them only the once, I think with the Subhumans...somewhere, some place :-) Yeah, great album and it's easily up there with my pick of the bunch.
