Excellent comparison! That analysis was such a breath of fresh air. As shoe nerds it’s easy to ‘love everything’ and loose the sense of discernment. Very nice to see the different angles you bring on the table. Thank you!
OK, I might be in the minority but I'm willing to put up with a harsher shoe if that means I will get better grip (and stability). I need to feel confident that the shoe isn't gonna send me flying 🙃
Yes… this is why I’m such a HUGE fan of the Nike Pegasus… that full rubber outsole is perfection. What’s interesting here is just how different FFBlast+ Eco feels with little rubber on the outsole (NB4) and a lot (G26). It is a massive difference. More than any other foam with that different than I can think of.
I use the Adidas Boston 12 and I went to buy the Adizero SL for daily training, unfortunately the SL have this stupid design similar to many Nike where the upper net push on your big finger and even using two more sizes it was extremely uncomfortable. I tested the Asics Gel Nimbus 26 ant they fit like a glove, pure perfection.
@@SagasuRunning I tested the Superblast too on the treadmill and was way more dynamic but I choose the Nimbus 26 because I am starting from scratch after more than 20 years... I enjoy your videos, thank you.
The Nimbus 26 was the right call then. That’s the shoe you wanted. It’s great for that use case. Plus, the Boston 12 and SB are interchangeable, you don’t need both. Thank you for the kind words and support. 🤙🏻
I have about 33 shoes in my rotation and I love the Nimbus 25, it's a great cruiser and for me the fit was superb . I also loved the original Novablast.
My wife’s favourite shoe of all time is the Nimbus 25. Was looking for a recovery/easy run shoe to replace my triumph 20s. The 25’s were 60% off on Amazon, I thought I’d give them a whirl. I’m in agreement with you. lovely to walk in, but easy running I find them very heavy and the foam feels extremely firm. They feel better when increasing the pace to tempo levels, but that’s not what I bought these shoes to do. I also struggle with the fit, I’m a standard width and either my foot slides around too much causing blisters, OR my feet go numb due to lack of blood circulation. 40 yo Male, 6ft 0, 159lbs, UK 9.5 standard width G, midfoot striker
Interesting. I’m glad I’m not alone. I do remember the fit being very “big”… enough that walking was better than running. Then again…. The NB4 is just a shoe I prefer.
I will have to try the Gel-Nimbus 26 to make sure that I will like the improvements it got over the Gel-Nimbus 25 that I loved. The things that I want to see improved from the 25th version : - a bit better lockdown in the heel without some sides laterally ( had that some times at the beginning of my runs before my feet would sink a bit more into the foam and get a better lockdown) ; - and I always felt something amiss at the lateral side when I hit the ground. It seems that the Gel-Nimbus 26 got those "problems " fixed for my taste : - less soft foam I will get a better lockdown in the heel and so it should not slide or collapse inwards at all ; - the additional rubber at the side of the shoes, connecting the rubber at the heel and forefoot areas should fix the problem I had ... supinating I felt just softness of the foam and I need something stiffer and the rubber now added to that spot will make running feel even better. Better especially when trying to pickup the pace and doing more middle foot to forefoot strikes. I don't mind the additional weight increase if that makes.the.shoes more stable. I'm used and love to do my long runs on heavier shoes like a SolarGlide 6 or Structure 25 . Great video. Can't wait for more videos about the Gel-Nimbus 26 on your channel !
It does seem the 26 resolves what you are looking for. That additional rubber on the lateral side should do alot of what you want. One thing I couldn’t find any exact info on is the durometer of the foam in the 25 and 26 and if there is a differences. There is a definite “feel” difference between the G26 and NB4. You can feel that the NB4 is softer foam on foot too. I’ll put more time into the G26s and see what happens with the foam. They have softened up a little… as the shoe molds to my foot… but it’s not much compared to the NB4.
Sounds like you should try the Asics GT 2000 Version 12 - its firm supported with nice cushion and quite light. I am runnning in this with sometimes more joy than a range of supershoes I have (i am trying to limit my training in supershoes as i think my legs were deconditioning! -I did my second fastest training run on a course i have ran 156 Times! Brilliant daily trainer that you can pick up the pace to Marathon Plus (for me anyways) but with loads of comfort and support. I think the guys at Doctors Of Running rate it as the no 1 stability shoe. But its nothink like the old Kayano.
I'm not a runner who needs a stability shoe so this is one I'll likely never run in. It is also basically a stability version of the Cumulus as well. I enjoy the Cumulus but there are much better shoes in that class out there to run in. This is the main issue with Asics at the moment. Parallel product lines, between new and old.
Have had these for exactly a year and they’re basically awesome. Have slightly over 250 miles on them of walking and running. Two things however. I’m starting to experience shin splints which I’ve never had with other runners. Secondly, I’m developing a wear or rub spot on the right shoe inner corner of the sole. Other folks have experienced it as well apparently. Brought it to ASICS attention to see if there was any recourse but to no avail. IMO the sole maybe a little too soft and ultimately not terribly durable. Have read that ASICS updated the 26s with a thicker/harder mid sole but I’m not sure if that addresses that premature wear issue 🤷🏻♂️
Honestly, 250mi on a shoe is solid. Even though the Nimbus 26 is built like a tank it is still make out of materials that will wear fast. Thats the comfort that some experience in this shoe.
a thoroughly review, i found the same issue with the stretchy tongue 😁 i use the 26 for really slow recovery jog, slow long run, and walk only, the midsole will get more comfortable after broke in, about over 50 miles of usage
The tongue is the most perplexing thing on this shoe. It makes absolutely no sense. I know this foam breaks in, I already felt a difference after 20k. My Novablast 4 is very consistent, once it fully softened up after 50-60k… I’d expect this to be the same.
Interesting. How about a video on Nimbus 26 vs Invincible 3? For me, I love the Invincible 2, had 2 pairs. But I returned the Invincible 3 and sold my Nimbus 25. Will stay away from 26 and looking to try the Ghost Max.
Unlikely. The two shoes don’t really compare. I’ll see what they do with the invincible 4 this year. The Ghsot Max is the more enjoyable shoe over all of them regardless.
The 26 is soft but maybe too soft. Nice walking shoe but dont think the foam offers enough reaction . Feels a little heavy. Prefer the Adidas SL2. Its light and reactive. Super comfortable as well.
Great review! How will the Nimbus 25 be for walking? They’re rockered and pretty stiff, but they feel like they’re the most stable of the max stack shoes. I’m planning to get the TR version for added grip
They would be an outstanding walking shoe, one of the best actually. Honestly, not sure you need the TR for just city/asphalt walking, even dirt and grass would be fine. The TR version would be a solid light trail shoe if you one would want that much stack on trail.
@@SagasuRunningwhat do you think how would they be for a person that stands a lot during the day? I'm torn between nimbus 26, bondis 8 and Gaviota 5 :/...dont know which to pick. I’d pick the Superblast as my one training shoe and save some money. 😂 It can do pretty much everything and in a light package. I do like the design of the Nimbus 26 than the 25.
One of the compelling use cases I’m forming for the Nimbus 26 is as a training partner to the Superblast. It’s the anti-Superblast and really maximizes a totally different feel underfoot to balance the much more versatile SB. But still… the SB can do it all on its own… sooooo…it is a reach.
