  • I met this Zapotec family by accident while exploring in Teotitlan del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico. They showed me their ancient 3,000 year old method of rug weaving!

She is excellent in her English and her inflections. You gotta be real smart to speak 3 languages, especially one that you'd rarely use in your country. And especially more English, it's notoriously difficult to learn.

@@0Y09 Any other language is just as hard to learn they only seem harder because English is teached at a very young age in most countries when our brains have a much easier time learning language. I'm Dutch and many people here find German and Spanish easy languages to learn because they started learning it at highschool. Ask the older people and they will say its hard. (Less neuroplasticity)

I speak, read, and write fluently in 4 languages………German, English, Spanish, and Hebrew.
The gift of language’s does not mean much, in today’s world.
Actually, intelligence and capability, while admired by almost all…..….are usually also bemourned, both by those who have those gifts, AND by those who rule over them. (By birth usually)

Seriously a lost art. She not only spins and dyes her own fabrics but looming too. I know so much but i only have a small understanding of this process. We're losing ancient knowledge with all this technology. Smart teaching her daughter. Her English is actually really excellent compared to some I've heard. Beautiful rugs! I wish I could afford some.

Right?!?! Can you imagine if she made an account on Patreon, UA-cam, Bigo...(any of the Apps where you do your thing/teach/talk/etc & people donate & send funds to you).
I wonder if she knows that she could make one/some of those accounts & probably take care of her entire village of the donations/money that her and the family make.

That spinning wheel is how indians used to make their clothes back in the day. That wheel is almost a symbol of mahatma Gandhi and the gandhian movement.
Our hindu scriptures talk of an ancient time when india and Mexico were together, which theory is also supported by plate tectonics. Hence there are a lot of similarities between usm
Very poetic that they too came to be called indian.

It's amazing that they have so much meaning for each part of their traditional designs. I never knew that before. As she was explaining about it I was thinking that it sounded similar to astrology. She helped us see how ancient Zapotecs likely came up with these patterns and the ideas they most likely attached to them.
