5 things you didn’t know about The Old Course at St Andrews

Upon being awarded the key to the town of St. Andrews, Bobby Jones famously remarked; ‘’I could take out of my life everything except my experiences at St. Andrews and I would still have a rich, full life.” That statement remains true many years later for nearly every amateur golfer who has visited the town and been lucky enough to play the Old Course, but many of its occasional or first-time visitors know little about the links and the events that have shaped its past.

There is a bridge called the Swilcan Bridge and it was indeed used to drive sheep over the burn. But it’s about 30 yards away where the road is. The bridge on the course is actually The Golfer’s Bridge
