Had a '70 throughout high school in '92 to '94. My father had a '70 88 in the 70's and lucky him he got a '65 109 military painted in sand color. Many memories working on these land rovers!
Beautiful video.... I have a Series III 88" Santana (Made in Spain) and this fellas are just amazing... he droves me to know amazing places since i bought it, .... wading rivers, crossing jungles, deserts, plains.... and he always droves me home well. :) It´s good to see that series land rovers are now well appreciated in USA. That´s great.
It's not a car, it's a lifestyle! My car for every day is a Land Rover 1er generation of .....1951! One life, live it! Sebastien , country of Champagne, France.
There are places in the world where only a Land Rover has ever been. Meaning Land Rover is the only vehicle the indigenous people have ever known. There's something special about that.
Since settling on your current 2021 Defender I haven’t watched a minute of your current content. Thank God this showed up on my recommended videos today. Fair winds until you start publishing relatable content again.
Thank you for this one, I have owned seven Series Landrovers and driven many many new ones in the British Army......New they were a delight to drive, good brakes, precise steering a nice all round drive on road and off. Nowadays I have Two Jeep Wranglers CRDs living in Eastern Europe (Poland) I have owned a UAZ 469b with an Andoria Diesel conversion and I presently own a Pinzgauer 710K and a Unimog U1300L for classic driving.
In the Himalayan town of Darjeeling, India, these trucks are still used in the tea estates. There I luckily got a ride on one of those original petrol powered trucks and must say they are robust. Back when Land Rover was actually reliable.
When Americans get into an old Land Rover they realise the the shit they have been driving. He calls himself a car guy but he doesn't know the difference between a land rover and a range rover
+Anthony R Americans for the most part didn't grow up with Land Rovers. In America they are very expensive. For offroading we typically use jeeps, tacomas, old chevys, etc. They are much more affordable here in the states.
+Hayden Sisk And Fords. Early Broncos are pretty capable. V8 with front and rear locking diffs will get you in and out of a lot of places modern AWD's would never be able to go.
like triggers broom on only fools and horses. He had the same broom for twenty years. It only had 3 new heads and four handles. But I still love the Rivers.
Its great to see those old Land Rovers out there and running. Seeing the one on Fast and Loud rotting in a garage is a shame. The video would have been better though if Roman would research the vehicles a little more.
Having had a series 11a myself it was one of the most reliable vehicles I have owned so like any manufacturer you will always get the odd unreliable one but Land Rover back then just about discovered the world and went where pretty much no other vehicle would go
Series Lamndrovers are so cool. A few years back I resorted an ex army SIII 110 radio car. It was great off road although with the military spec tyres etc,. kinda hilarious on road. Driving it around town was like a workout in the jym, but we had so much fun in it
land rover (old one) willys jeep, toyota land cruiser, ALL outshine the hummer, which humms.. how many land rovers still in condition? Hummers? forget it, Iived in Africa, the land rover, especially a 40 year old one is what I would trust my life to
+James Gale as long as half the small storage is dedicated to spare parts! jk (kinda) they are iconic and a treasure... depending upon who you speak with!
Got a couple of ex military 110's with roll over protection (ROP) standard, appreciate the series, love my landys, but would install ROP if i had one....legendary vehicle though. Even the last released Defender 2015.....not one airbag to be found.....
my parents had a 90s land rover, which they had for 10 years before selling. they had no major problems and it never broke down. it's personal preference
Just like driving a farm tractor with a car body on it. I'm the proud original owner of a series 1 88 diesel 1957, and a series 2A 109 diesel station wagon. They're part of the family. Only in a series Land Rover it's just simply a way of life.
I was at the junkyard the other day (the special, years 95-up one) and every chevy and ford there had either over 300k on it, or was smashed(on top of 180k or so). I was amazed when I saw a used up chevy truck that had been T-boned, had a bunch of dents, was smashed in the front AND had 490k and change. It was one of two chevies trucks there, the rest were suburbans. there were more late 90's/ early 00's land rovers there than ford/chevy trucks combined. And they had lowish miles on them.
The woman in the back looks terrified, the man filming is so far out of his comfort zone he is nearly in space and the driver thinks he designed the land rover.
Go hit the test track at the dealerships or just use that search bar at the top of your screen. They will surprise you, as they are extremely capable and worthy of carrying on the Land Rover name.
Because they are to different level machines most having several engines offered. They want to know how it handle crossing 3 states while pulling a trailer at freeway speeds.
None. The question asked is why do Americans ask about horsepower. We want to know if it has enough power to pull a camper, boat, or other trailers long distance. When small four cylinder or v6 engines were offered, they worked well enough close to home, but most Americans drive long distances. The engines were not up to heavy loads. Personally I have driven 160 miles round trip to get a load of materials to build a house. Small engines couldn't pull the load at sustained highway speed. Even my CJs are a pain to drive more than 45 mph. Take that on 600 mile trip which is not a long distance and you will wish you had more horsepower for speed.
57WillysCJ horsepower means fuck all if you don't have torque. If you want to tow then I suggest it may be worthwhile not to mention horsepower if that makes a substantial difference.
Ah so you don't like Americans and could care less what the reason really is. Most muscle cars in the modern age are dynoed which gives you horsepower and torque. Torque is not helpful if the engine is under powered. Have you crossed the Rocky mountains with a loaded trailer going 65-70 mph? Torque is important starting out but is not that much help at higher speeds unless you have just an electric motor.
I have LR defender 90 yr 2001 td5 it has over 120000 on the clock and has never let me down by breaking down . It uses about a pint of oil a month and that is it. Its an XS spec 6 seater, crude and noisy but huge fun and very capable off road.
land rovers are some of the most durable vehicles, despite the electrical systems (which btw is not really that important because they can start with out it
This one in a videos footage got manual hub lock....i'm also never know thats it can be fitted with manual hub lock..looks like its WARN brand....never know before
I had a NAS Defender, biggest pos I've ever had with miserable electronics. I swore I'd never get another one. Now I have a 1991 Defender 200 tdi- best car I've ever had.
ollieskins British companies have a habit of sending the shite to the Americans, the diesel Range Rovers for example are way more reliable than the petrol equivalent.
true mate. But I'd rather have your land rover which has good articulation than that on the video! Hell it seems like it would lift a wheel coming off a curb!
Now you need to take a Seies II Land Rover, Jeep CJ5 & several NEW shiney Jeep & 4 WD imports for a test run in Western Colorado, such as Ouray or Telluride for an acid test of 4WD.. I guarantee some of the NEW sleek imports & domestic models will come back with scratched paint if they survive real Colorado back roads.. ;-)
I like how he said landrover and ranger rover like its a different brand ... A range rover is a landrover jus get it straight lol .... Landrover made the range rover look separate cuz they want to be more icon plus it was the first vehicle to hav on road handling and offroad handing
Those 90's Land Rovers were basically junk. The electrical systems on them in particular were horrendous. Suffered that pain myself. The older models like the one in this video were much more basic and considerably more reliable. There wasn't a lot on one to break. Much like the early Jeeps, if it would even sort-of run you could limp it back to civilization. The only things that really stopped them was being hopelessly mired or on its top.
Nice video and great to watch, but those guys from the American LR organisation doesn't know must about maintaining these old Series anymore. That engine sounds awful and is needing a urgent full service!!!You can hear the valvetrain ratteling from miles away!!!.But these old 2.25 petrol engines are almost bulletproof.
Please take no offense here but could you get any less cool of a guy to host. I'm sure you're a really nice guy but just kinda cheesy. God, the Series 2-A and the Series 3 were beautiful. All the Land Rovers are outrageously capable.
The series 2A is the car that introduced me to landrover and the car I would love to have again. I lived it.
I would love to experience driving one of these "old school" Rovers. The less-is-more model appeals to me very much.
Had a '70 throughout high school in '92 to '94. My father had a '70 88 in the 70's and lucky him he got a '65 109 military painted in sand color. Many memories working on these land rovers!
Our family lived in Kenya in the mid 70's. We had a long wheelbase Rover. Indestructible.
That's beautiful...the African Safari vibes hits the spot🙌🏼

Anthony R and... by 1970, I thought this would have been a series iii?
@@gnewman18 nope, II and IIa were build up to 71
they say that 70% of all Land Rovers made since 1948 are still on the road or in full working condition. Says a lot for Land Rovers doesn't it?
tommyau2006 still on the road, yes. the other 30% actually made it home
That percentage applied to Defenders only
no it doesn't. It applies to all Land Rovers
+tommyau2006 it does. it says that people rich enough to afford them, are rich enough to repair them.

Incredibly cool video! Loved the ending
I own a 1971 swb 88' L/R. The suspension is way too hard but the rest is great and I've enjoyed the car.
I can assure you that a stock series land rover is a lot more capable offroader than the new land rovers (except the defender)
I want to see this filmed after a nice rain.
It’s been a long time since tigers were seen in Africa!
Great video!
I very, very like it.
More videos like this one!
Could you do one more with this Land Rover?
Yes! More please!!😃
The Best 4 x 4 x Far!
best 4wd no other is like it ever
Good camera work Roman.
Best car in the world!
how can that guy think its a RangRover. its a land rover, reportedly the 1st car ever too be seen by 1/3 of the worlds population.
Well a Range Rover IS a Land Rover! The same way Toyota is the company that has Corollas, Camrys etc.
i love how you can just bolt them together
This 30 years old LR have better MPG than new RR Sport, this is called progress :)
"The Gods must be Crazy" I'll take this and a bottle of Coca Cola !!!!

6:05 - "steep and deep" is a skier term meaning a steep slope and deep snow. There is no snow.
I enjoy this channel. Sometimes, however, the host seems oblivious to....well....everything, as if he's been drinking. I don't get it.
What is the main camera used to film this?
Let's get the guy that doesn't understand anything about Land Rover and that can't comprehend an explanation to host the segment.
Very cool! How about a new Defender 90?
Looks like he's got power steering on that !
Really cool....
land rovers are some of the most durable vehicles, despite the electrical systems (which btw is not really that important because they can start with out it
not if they have gas engines
If u where run out of battery, u can crank up the engine clockwise and there you go...the engine will be start without any problem
Nice video! I'm also interested in where exactly this is. I'm living in the SF bay area and looking for some light off road trails.
Also would like to now the exact location. I'm living in the SF bay and am looking for some light offroad trails not too far away.
Professional question, well technically a student question, what type of cameras does TFL use?
Does anybody know if you can fit a diff lock in a series 2 or series 3?
This one in a videos footage got manual hub lock....i'm also never know thats it can be fitted with manual hub lock..looks like its WARN brand....never know before

why does he sound out of breathe while sitting down doing the intro?
How many diffs does this vehicle have ?
where is this trail located exactly?
Very cool!! But would take old 40s Power Wagon over a rover!
What trail are they using? where at?
where was this video shot? Outside of SF where?
coming from a person who had a 90s landrover i disagree lol
thing would breakdown every 2500 miles

I disagree with that I haven't had single problem with my 91 RRC
Wheres was this video recorded ?
California plates but Roman’s from Colorado
that lady is a distant cousin of mine.
Dylan McCallister batman was my secound cousin
Engine is under compression..
these guys look like they would be more at home in a golf cart at the country club or a mobility scooter at the mall. what with that back seat.

Defender came out way before 1990
1983 I believe.
ollieskins that was the 90 110 and the 127
The defender was first introduced in 1990 and looked he same but with tdi engines and other small changes

and then roll cages were invented....
Looks like Jurassic park
Landrover 88,109, 90, 110, and what about the 130?
land rover takes a lot of money to put in, so if it's breaking, it means you can't afford the maintenance.
No it's not...in my country, it's very cheap and reliable in here...not like any other modern 4x4 these days, even thought you can fix it with a hammer...simple maintenance, and even you can barely open the gearbox with jacking up the car...Land Rover is like LEGO which you can put the roofs off and on without cutting the body (only need screw for open the top, the door, the back tub and front wings)
