The Land Rover has been with me for around six years. It’s a little rough around the edges, but generally OK. I’ve done a bit of mechanical work to it over that time. Including reconditioning the engine, rebuilding the gearbox, rebuilding both axles and the braking system, and many other small fixes along the way.
But she has started to go downhill lately, particularly the condition of the body. Most of the body is aluminium, but steel is rusting rapidly.
So it’s time to do something about it…
Very much looking forward to following this! I have a 1978 S3 109 that is in desperate need of a resto but she's such a fun workhorse, I can't bring myself to put her off the road for that long! Someday...
I had a S1, 1953, a S3, 1973, a Discovery and a Range Rover Vogue. Loved them all and they were even fairly reliable! Great video, 👍🏻
I’m very happy that you’re allowing us to join you on this adventure. I’m really looking forward to the series.
Thanks Andy!
Geoffrey, you´re right up there with This old Tony - this series is going to be so much fun (for us, the viewers) - I´m sure it will turn out golden like all your other videos. Good luck with the Rover.
Looking forward to this restoration!
If your drill press restoration is anything to go by, we're in for a treat!
This is awesome! Project Binky is cool enough, having a second restorarion to watch, heaven!
Agreed , but i suspect ( secretly hoping ) this one will be finished before Binky is all done.
Andy Elliott i'm with you on that one (; but its worth the wait. This one here though, will keep us occupied (;
Back here watching this intro video for inspiration......so funny and truthful. The whole series is awesome.
Very excited to see this!
Love to see you two do something together!!
lol, love your vids!
Geoffrey, I’ve been watching UA-cam for a few years now and I have to say your videos and commentary are THE BEST among the top sites!! Thank you for sharing then with us all. This one is going to be amazing if the great stories continue. LMAO
Can not wait for this !! When it comes to Restoration, not many impress quite the way you do!
Just found this... I've got a 1984 series 3 and looking to do some work on it... I'm sure I'll be watching this and your other videos a few times...great work...well done...
God, where were you/this channel when I was tackling my 63 2a station wagon years ago?? Ahhh.
Land rovers have a feature. They tend to make an adventure out of things that are usually routine. Absolutely golden!
I know what you mean. Changing the wiper blades on a nice Sunday afternoon turns into a 10k 3 year restoration. Gotta love those bastards
The logic of pulling it all apart is completely unflawed.
Never knew how modular the Rovers were. Great video!
Geoffrey my dude, never before have I been so excited, and so blue balled in one five minute period. I’m embarrassingly hyped up for this project, but when I saw the video length (I appreciate it is just an intro) I felt deeply betrayed. I’m sure the next instalment will be as deeply satisfying as ever. Kudos mate.
Ahhh so nice to see dash of professionalism on youtube
Loving these videos. I just bought a Series 3 88 inch - 2.25 Diesel for extra slowness. It does have an overdrive though, and no you can't have that!
Excited to watch. Good luck we’re all counting on you
This will be epic! Great intro! So looking forward to this.
A vehicle truly worth the restoration!
If the bench drill is anything to go by, then this is going to be a lekker series! Excite!
Turned on the bell, I’ll be following closely. Thx for sharing!
Flash! one of my all time favourites to sing to when smashed
Nice to see the Rover getting a new lease of life.
I am watching this series for the second time ......in love with the restoration......i know its a slow process but cant wait for your next video
This has became one of my favorite channel on UA-cam. Great job Geoffrey, great editing, great story telling.
This is like showing the dog it's favourite food and then telling him he can't eat it till tomorrow..
I can't wait for the next episode !! I love your other restoration and the way you show and commented it , amazing job ! Continue !!!
Really looking forward to this! Your Land Rover is the exact one that I consider as esthetic perfection: a series III in Light Green colour...
Series 2 with the inboard headlights is the ace. That's what I was looking for when I ended up buying this one. But yeah, pastel green ftw!
I love videos like this! especially when done with nice editing, humor and effects. Subscribed!
Woohoo: After the disassembled Land Rover teaser in the drill press video, I was hoping this would be your project for your next series of videos. Very exciting stuff!
Yesssssssss!
YES IM SUPER EXCITED TO SEE THIS PROJECT I love the that you show you're self working on it with audio. Subscribed and ready!
Geoffrey,
I laughed so hard I cried.
This does however explain your advanced level of mechanical skill, you own a series landie.
These things are the ultimate mecarno set with wheels, looking forward to the very in depth application of insulation and a heater suitable for the land of the fat bottomed bird.
Im enjoying your existing series, but this should be an epic.
Have fun.
But meccano sets already have wheels.
Yes..... YES!!!! Can't wait
I wasn’t sure about subscribing to this channel but now that I can see you saying yes, I know I should
Brilliant, I was always hoping you would do videos about this. You're braver than me, I sold my 1977 SIII after just a few three hour motorway trips!
Awesome! Looking forward to this one.
Well I was going to do something but I see this video just got posted....
Very nice. I was wondering how well the series 3 gear box is with the synchromesh. I have been given access to a 1964 series 2A that bas been sitting in a barn for 13 years +. I was thinking about putting a Nissan LD28 engine on to a series 3 gearbox and dropping that in. How well would that work?
It is a 109" single cab, flat deck with a heater ( I have been told that they were not up to much). It has been in the Ruapehu district most of its life but it came from a farm before my friend bought it about 30 years ago. It has not been started for 13 years but when I put the crank handle in and turn, it is fantastic, it is not sized up and no bad sounds.
Just rebuild the existing motor. They go fine. An ld28 might make it marginally faster, but the value of the vehicle will be approx $0. And you'll still be slower than every other vehicle on the road. Just my opinion. And I wouldn't go to any extra hassle to swap in a series 3 box. The synchro on 1 & 2 is still pretty clunky. It was a modification to the old design and they didn't have room for a full synchro mechanism so it's this nasty little clunky gear thing that only sort of works ok.
Yessssssss can’t Wait!
I just moved to America a got a 1986 Ford F-150 that I’m restoring 👍
Send me pictures!
Geoffrey Croker sure! I sent it to your Instagram.
Oops 1986*
You do such a great job, and your commentary is priceless.
LANDY!!!!
I am very jealous. Just sayin’
2 minutes in and I’m hooked.
Your are a legend, Sir!
Edited to add, I have driven several Series III Landys and I would love to own one. I’m still looking…
Jump in now, they're getting harder and harder to find in unmolested condition.
Been waiting for this! I've also got a series 3 (ex military LWB). It needs a full resto so I'll be watching intently :)
The drill press took a year to restore and publish the videos. I can only imagine how long this will take.
Ben Mich, patience, patience and a little patience at the end. Quality takes time 😊
Land Rover - The first family car purchased by my grandmother in the 1960s ,,, and the first Jeep proved to be efficient in the GCC.
So f-ing excited about this! Keep those videos coming Geoffrey
Three Minutes and 12 seconds in - Here we have the best reason to own and drive a Series Land Rover. My 72 shorty put a smile on my face every time I got in it. I would go out for groceries and come back the pretty way on purpose. Had to sell it and it broke my heart. BUT I recently bought a reasonably original 109 truck, and happiness returns.
Okay am I the only one who has watched this for the 3rd time now?
Yip
Geoffrey Croker
Well I am obsessed with your channel and this series. Keep up the great work!! And thanks a lot for responding to my comment!
Guilty😂
Can’t wait to get further into this restoration!
Oh yeah looking forward to this.
Wow! The expectations are damn too high! \o/
Man I’ve been looking forward to this one!! 😁
Dear Geoffrey
This landrover is my favorite, I used it for about 15 years.. unfortunately before I sell it there was a huge oil consumption I overhauled the engine (2 1/4 Ltr petrol) but the problem not solved and stell it consums the same amount of oil
I was strangling I spend to much.. just imagine what was the problem..it was the engine breather..
I soucked it all night in a carb cleaner n petrol n next day I flashed it clean with petrol n blow it with air and the problem solved
cleaner
Geoff, Geoff, We love you! But we only have 14 hours to save the Landie! 🤪
I got a série 3 I think 1972/73 no engine a old ambulance apparently so around 20 can longer Anaya your I will try to fit 1HZT engine gear box différentiel let see I am retired in Laos so I just find something to do Lolo Bob from Canada thanks for all your video love it it’s my inspiration,,,,
Yes looking forward to this!
What’s the best way to prevent salt corrosion on a vehicle? (Not only rusting but also plastic and rubber parts?)
Park it inside, as far away from the ocean as possible. Seriously, there's not much you can do.
subbed from Auckland just to see this, making me want to sell my Classic mini for a series 1 Landy now!
Instant subscribe! This is going to be great.
Can you do my Series 3 next ? :-) Seriously though, once you own a Series Landy you can never get it out of your system, after 23 years of ownership I believe everything and anything else in life is negotiable. Thanks for this excellent video production, I look forward to the next instalment
That was awesome. Can't wait for the series
I'm very excited about this...
after similar night time journey over the preselis in wales in my dads unheated 90 my mom insisted sleeping bags were added to the junk in the back mine whole and dads with the bottom 2 feet cut off so he could drive
That title intro left a big smile in my face! I sure am about to learn a whole lot about Land Rovers :P
Best of luck with the restoration/editing works Geoffrey!
Very much looking forward to this, I was heart-broken to sell my 2A the year before last but it was sat unused as I'd moved overseas. I keep telling myself I'll own another one one day but the prices they're starting to command has ruled me out of the market forever more I suspect.
Yeah, that's what happens. I sold a Datsun 240z about ten years ago. It was near perfect condition. I'll never be able to afford one with prices now!
Please use POR 15 products on chassis and other components they will never rust again . Great product
I am ecstatic to see this. I cannot wait to see the finished product. Do you plan on adding features, such as the heater you mentioned?
Alex
Probably not. Maybe a heater if I can find a full setup.
I have a feeling I'm going to like this
Oh boy I've been waiting for this one !! I expect sheepskin seat covers Geoffrey.
Haha, sheepskin covers. nah, I plan to keep live sheep in the back of it.
Great video, I'm excited to watch this. I've just started the same thing with a Series 2, 88. Fantastic, entertaining editing as well..
I always miss mine sorry I sold it was an old roit land rover from the late 70s from Northern Ireland I'm looking to watching this.
i had a 1973 lwb series 3a I loved the old girl, but believe me having a standard heater fitted doesn’t make it any warmer inside or defrost the window correctly.
Its better than nothing haha.
Sweet! Im ready to binge watch...oh wait.
This is gonna be awesome!
Geoff, like everyone else I'm looking forward to this series of videos!
I can't wait to see the next bit.
oh man I'm excited for this series!
hello brother. In minute 1:28 you are showing a piece that is missing in my Land Rover Series II A. What is the name of it, and where could I find one to buy, or rather make it. Thanks alot for your help. End let me tell you that you`ve made a pretty good job there!
I don't think the series 2 had these? Otherwise not sure what it's called anyway? It'll be in your parts manual if you're supposed to have it...
This is gonna be awesome!!!!
Flash Gordon?!?!?! Good one mate!!!
Fuck yeah, I'm super pumped about this series
Great content, excellent video editing skills, and it's all about a Land Rover! 👍
Never been so hyped for anything. And i run youtube, but when i found you.. dam... I DEMAND FAST UPLOADS everyday .
Well TBH, I have never owned a LR. myself but EVERYONE I know who has, has had reliability issues with almost every part of every it. I Have had a roll-over crash in a SWB; as a passenger (-hit Hard on back, r/h side) and as door windows are level with seats, this was Not a good moment ! You Have to love these things, they are SO crap. Good luck with yours however.
At the begining of the 1980s I had one of those series 3s as a fault vehicle. It was called el fume-o the pig! Had to put oil in it every day. It was replaced with a 2F landcruiser which was basically Toyotas copy of a 1955 fwd Chevy ute which never used oil but always needed to stop for petrol, twice a day usually. That vehicle of yours seems to be in very good condition for its age, most of the bolts are still undoing. Are you doing the crosses and gearbox too, or have they already been done? In any event, have fun!
Will be following your progress Geoff, as I'll likely be starting my own Series III restoration soon. Looking forward to episode two :)
Love the start. Incidentally, your voice over is very much like David Attenborough... only funnier!
I was a conscript soldier in the Dutch army in 1988-89 and learned how to drive in one of those and got my military drivers license which I could turn into a civilian license. Cool to see one restored.
parabens pelos videos ...muito boa as restauracoes que vc faz .. ancioso para ver essa como vai ficar
I've been waiting almost two years for these news
One more super fan here!
Are you going stock or adding heater, sound dampening, insulation, etc?
Thanks for sharing all the videos, can't wait for these ones
Does anyone know any upgrades or replacements to increase fuel efficiency?
Land Rovers one of my favorite vehicles. Very nice project.. good luck and keep us updated :)
If i were you, i would put some anti-seize on some of those bolts. Its a god send here in the northeast states
Every trip in a Landy is an adventure. Went on holiday this year in the wife's Nissan for a change. She asked what do you think - going in the Nissan? I didn't really notice - all very efficient etc, but oh so dull! For some reason you climb in yer Landy and all is good in the world. Looking forward to your S3 project. Cheers Craig
I hope you don't make it look too perfect. I rather liked the "lived in" look.
Very ambitious project ... and can’t wait for your next vid
Hello, I am new subscriber and absolutely enjoy watching your videos. Your videos are very entertaining and full of information. Bravo 👏👏👏 have a great day! Regards, JZ
Yessssss! So excited for this series! Excellent intro! Exclamation marks! Also LOL re oil, hahaha!
