    Very good. Have owned two series 3 a long wheel base and a short wheel base. You had to pick the defender because there are four in your family. Well done.

    I have a Series 2a, 1970 (Tax Exempt, MOT Exempt, £190 fully comp insurance) - 2.25 Diesel. Max speed 50mph, terrifying brakes & steering.. Wipers / starter motor or something needs attention each month... I love it and wouldn't change it for anything. In any case... you can't have too many Land Rovers... I have a 109 project in progress too 😁

      Amazing! The 2a is a beautiful vehicle. One day I'll get another Series Landy for sure!!

      If you have “terrifying brakes and steering” it is because it needs parts replacing or servicing. You have only yourself to blame !😂

    • @PaulMcGuinness
      @PaulMcGuinness 2 місяці тому

      @@stephencrowther524 They are as good as a S2 gets. I've added a remote servo (they are all-round drum brakes don't forget!), and also adjusted the steering box. I just meant in comparison with any modern vehicle 😂

    Definitely a series 1, or series 2A before a Defender. I'm the proud original owner of both.

    Tough call I know, nostalgia is a big thing with older vehicles and I love it too so totally understand the dilemma, but I think in the long run you made the right choice and stuck to plan.

    I have owned a Series 3 109 soft top (ex military) and had use of an 88 hard top (in blue - classic) and loved them both, not had any experience of the later 90s/110s but would love a 110 Utility.

    Good one. It's hard to not get emotionally attached to them. I just sold my 1979 S3 88 back to the guy I bought it from for more than double what I paid. On to the next one. I'm thinking a classic Range Rover next. But if I find a 300tdi 110 for a decent price that's an option too.

    Coils and 5 speed everytime. But I would go back to a 1985 2.5 na 110, I love galv cappings and and sliding windows, which i owned. But I've also had a 300tdi 110 van and a 2.4 130 puma. Had 2x 90's and you can keep them.

    😁👍 With the new emissions regulations; The Series 3 is more compliant because it can run on unleaded petrol; but I'll take Uey off your hands.

    Good That you could make that decision. It looks like you have a lot of spaces! I would end up with few different project if I was in your property.. Luckily in Victoria, Australia, cars older and 25 years are very cheap to register and no MOT or nothing at all. Just to get RWC( like mot) once then it is good to go forever. I pay 83AUD per year for each cars and I can drive up to 45days( extendable to 90 days) per year which I found more than enough as I dont even drive every weekend.
    Thanks for the video!

    honestly watching your video of which land rover to go for, 2 years ago test drive a series 2a loved it but couldn't afford it at the time due to being temp job however once things were sorted i got my current unfinished project series 3, she needs anything doing so abit of a money pit however i wouldn't change it for the world as learning so much from it and making it my own so if you ever see orange and black series 3 88 on the road hopefully next year be me driving
    after 7 months on and off working on the engine (2.5td) yesturday 8/11/24 finally got it running smooth and not smokey after a lot of work done on it

    Honestly for me, I have a series 3 but I couldn’t use it as a daily, slow, noisy, cold, back breaking 😂. I’ve driven a couple defenders and whilst they’re still pretty rustic, they’re worlds apart with power steering, radio etc. I would swap the series for a defender any day but then I’m sure I’d miss it as they have so much character!!

    Of the two you have I would keep the 110, because short wheelbase Land-Rovers are much less practical than their longer siblings.
    Personally, I have been daily driving a Series 2 109” for the last thirty one years. I have no intention of ever replacing it. The meccano ethic can just as easily be applied to the earlier vehicles. Mine has a Tdi engine, overdrive and is as capable of hard use as anything else I own. I did 1400 miles in a week in it in August this year.

    Your choosing between two vehicles for two different purposes. The Series 3 is a utility vehicle meant for farm work. The 110 is a semi fashionable vehicle, with utility as a second thought. Its up to the purpose you need the vehicle for, and let the other go to a new owner who needs it for that purpose.
    Both can be sold to the US where both are in demand

      @ to be honest, the best layout is a 109 sw for casual family fun-offroading, camping, and a def90 for everyday run around.
      And a 200tdi Classic Range to go to the theater. :)

    Adding my opinion from the States, I'm 54 years old, I got my first series land rover at age 13, a 1969 88. I've owned over 40 series land rovers over the years and drove them daily and worked professionally for a number of years. It wasn't until 2018 that I got my first ex mod 110 and sold off my last remaining series trucks, I now own a 1987 mod 90 hard top 2.5 na and a 96 Discovery 4.0, as I agree and my bones get older I honestly can say I prefer a 90/110 over a leafer for daily use and camping. As a family vehicle a 110 5 door with a tdi is the do all vehicle that will suit anyone and will be a reliable trustworthy family companion if it's properly maintained. My 90 only has 53,000 miles and is in excellent original condition, yes I'd love a tdi but the 2.5 na is as reliable as the old 2 1/4 and like a series, you slow down and enjoy the drive. It will last me until I'm old and grey and is a pleasure to drive. So the 110 definitely gets my vote.

      Thank you for sharing! Over 40 series land rovers..🤩that’s impressive!! I quite fancy something with a v8 petrol at some point, like a Range Rover classic or a disco - that could be fun.

    No quibbles, I'd have the 96 110, 300tdi, as pretty much the best Defender going for what I want, which is why I have a 97 300tdi 110...

      @DaleReubin  2 місяці тому

      Ha! Perfect 👌🏼

    • @overlandready
      @overlandready 2 місяці тому

      @@DaleReubin The reason I like the 97110 best, is simple, no rubber moulded plugs! all the electrics got an overhaul to Sumitomo connectors like a lot of Japanese cars and motorbikes so have proven reliability, the 300tdi got a smaller alternator pulley so it charges better, and the dash got a little overhaul on the warning lights to give heated fromt screen symbol, it's the little things. I also wondered what the possibility of ABS on the 300tdi and yep, it is a possible retro fit and I have got the system to work. The next phase is paint it and then continue the camping/overlanding features of the vehicle. The plan is to explore a lot of the UK again and then further afield to Southern Europe and N. Africa. The aim is to be totally self sufficient other than the obvious fuel, food and the like. The benefit of 30+ years of mechanical knowledge and the ability to build it myself. 🙂
