"We were playing at this festival, and Dylan was playing at the festival. Then Dylan came up to me after he finished his set and we were about to go on, and he said, "Are you gonna play Watchtower?" and I said, no no I'm not gonna play 'cause you're here. And he said, "well I didn't play it 'cause you're here!.” -DM 05.15.2006
This video should be on the front page of UA-cam........ALL THE TIME! Everyone in America should see this, and what band it came from. Unbelievable, DMB is my favorite band, and I'm obsessed with all of their songs, but this one in particular, BLOWS MY MIND!!!!! hell ya Dave!!!!!
I had been welling up since the beginning of the song and then at 3:45 the tears started rollin down my face and I felt the rest of the song unlike I have ever felt anything before. Thank you Dave and company.
This song came on one night when I was smoking a j in my car looking up at the stars.. as you can probably guess, it was the best I felt in a loooongg time. Thank you Jimi, and thank you DMB for bringing such a great song to a whole other level.
Growing up I was raised on 60's classic rock, folk, and blues. I love the old rock, getting to the point I never would have thought I would say this, (Im sorry Jimmy) so here it goes... I love this version much better, the build up just makes makes me want to get up from this laptop and rock it out!
Holy hell. This is music. My music teacher, mr. Smith, showed us this song. It's so amazing. I can't stop watching it. I love the guy playing the violin. His face. He's having too much fun. Lol
RIP Leroi Moore~ 2008.. The best thing I ever heard him play was the solo on "Spoon", from Before These Crowded Streets album.. with Boyd humming on the violin along with him in perfect harmony.... man, those were the days ~ bring them back, Dave!
this song is so intense! i luv it and can listen to it over and over. there is just so much (musically) going on in it. i catch something different each time i hear it!!! I LUV DMB!
One of the best songs ever written. Maybe the most copied song in music history. Such a powerful song with such an easy chord progression. I love the NRG of this version. I love all the solos that bring this song together. But, it's simply the NRG!
One of the best live performances of any song by any band I've ever seen - my nipples get hard every time I see it - this s what live music is all about - if this doesn't make you feel something drop by the hospital and have them check for a pulse !!!!
why are there 3 dislikes? What is there to dislike about this performance? DMB performs my favorite version of Watchtower. Never ceases to give me chills
Such an amazing performance!...so much talent on one stage...the first time I watched it at 3:42 and 9:00 when Dave is holding those notes and the musicians are going nuts, I was blown away...I had to watch it 4 or times. Keep on rockin', boys!... RIP LeRoi.
I wonder how many people that were at this concert are still alive today, because if I could of been there it would have made my life complete and nothing else would ever matter.
I remember seeing this song performed live at Giants Stadium in 1998. I was 14 then. And hearing this now brings me right back to that night. What a great performance!!
Dave Matthews Band, Van Riper's concert 1992, All Along the Watchtower (to see where it all started with dave) and just a few short years later they're playing that at Woodstock! ...crazy~
I have no clue how someone could bash on this band? You got Dave, with the voice of an angel. You got Carter who jams like no other drummer in history. Stefan, who played in the band at the age of 16. Boyd, who is the most ripped fiddle player in the world. The best improvisational horns on the planet in Rashawn and Jeff. (Now) you have the most shredding guitar play on earth in Tim Reynolds. THIS BAND HAS IT ALL!!!
I am guessing the 10 dislikes are from bands that have covered this song and never came close to this interpretation of the Bob Dylan classic...DMB Rules!
I don't think you can beat Jimi's version, even that is under appreciated in the music industry!!! But, Dave Matthews' is even more underrated, its one of those songs that I can listen to all day without getting bored and Dave does more than a good job at it!
I'm really beating myself up over the fact that I saw them on the fourth of July this year at Alpine Valley and left before the encore. They ended with this song.
"We were playing at this festival, and Dylan was playing at the festival. Then Dylan came up to me after he finished his set and we were about to go on, and he said, "Are you gonna play Watchtower?" and I said, no no I'm not gonna play 'cause you're here. There are a lot of things I would sacrifice in my life right now to go back in time and be at this concert.
Growing up I was raised on 60's classic rock, folk, and blues. I love the old rock, getting to the point I never would have thought I would say this, (Im sorry Jimmy) so here it goes... It's honestly ridiculous how good this is. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of talent of that stage.

the songs and how they are played speak for themselves...DMB is awesomocratic! Wish cinematographers would date their filmdates...
that just gave me chills the entire time and I've heard that version at least 25 times prior.
What a mind blowing version, that violin solo was epic!!!!
RIP Leroi Moore~ 2008.. The best thing I ever heard him play was the solo on "Spoon", from Before These Crowded Streets album.. with Boyd humming on the violin along with him in perfect harmony.... man, those were the days ~ bring them back, Dave!

The instrumentals alone make this song legendary, add in Dave Matthews near flawless vocals and it becomes perfection. I need to change my underwear.
Unbelievable! Amazing song, great version of this by DMB.
This is AMAZING!! So much passion coming from everybody!
One of the best live performances in history...
That was amazing! They're all incredibly skilled and that violin solo.. whew
This song gives me a reason to get excited.
Absolutely unreal! Amazing musicianship
I've been a professional musician for over 30 year. I'm pretty sure these guys are from another planet!

I remember seeing this song performed live at Giants Stadium in 1998. I was 14 then. And hearing this now brings me right back to that night. What a great performance!!

Dave Matthews Band, Van Riper's concert 1992, All Along the Watchtower (to see where it all started with dave) and just a few short years later they're playing that at Woodstock! ...crazy~

I did not listen to that for many years.
I'm stupid...

Wouldn't surprise me, the man's on fire!
am i the only one nodding my head to the song?!

Only DMB can make four solos sound unbelievable in a single song, and a covered one at that.
played this at apline a few days ago.. it was amazing
This is a brilliant production !!!!
Thanks boys!
I am guessing the 10 dislikes are from bands that have covered this song and never came close to this interpretation of the Bob Dylan classic...DMB Rules!
I dont know what is better...Jimi Thing or Watchtower. The people at the park were blessed this evening!
I don't think you can beat Jimi's version, even that is under appreciated in the music industry!!! But, Dave Matthews' is even more underrated, its one of those songs that I can listen to all day without getting bored and Dave does more than a good job at it!
I would literally sell my firstborn child to go back in time and have been at this show.

I would love to hear Dave and Bob do this together
Dave Matthews said FIIIRREEE!!
I'm really beating myself up over the fact that I saw them on the fourth of July this year at Alpine Valley and left before the encore. They ended with this song.
