I'm kind ashamed to admit it. I've lived 51 years and never heard of Lonnie Mack. I was researching Stevie Ray Vaughans influences and saw his name. Wow he is great. Better late then never.

He's definitely an overlooked artist. I discovered him back in the 80s from a Dj on a local rock station. On Sundays she would play jazz in the mornings till noon, but at 10 40 she'd play a blues song. She called it the ten forty blues break 😄 She introduced me to a ton of great blues artists.
Check out some Albert Collins music if you haven't. And there's an album called Son Seals "live and burning" that you may enjoy. It's really raw etc but that's what I love about it.

I had a really nice lady as a room mate at the hospital. She was really funny & had a charming personality. She asked me if I knew who Lonnie Mack was and I replied, yes. She said “he is my son” and she smiled. It was easy to see that she was really proud of him. Well, he and a couple of his friends came in to visit mom and the atmosphere was so uplifting! He loved his mama! And his friends did too. Really nice!

Lonnie used to go fishing in our farm pond when I was a little kid back in the late 70s. Then him and Dad would sit in the barn half the night drinking homemade wine and smoking doobies and playing music . I always was glad when Lonnie came over he was cool and I knew there would be some fun. I didn't even realize til much later, when I got a guitar of my own and listened to his records , just how good of a guitar player he was.

My mom always told me that we were second cousins and would show me his Strike Like Lightning record and play it all the time when I was a little girl. It's when I first showed an interest in playing the guitar when I was about four or five that she told me about him.
I never got to meet him sadly and I only really learned of what he actually did for music a few years ago and I feel pretty damn guilty about that, actually.

He was the most down to earth guy you would meet. Lonnie retired to the town I live in. He would come to the local water hole almost daily. He would talk about life on the road and the people he had met. You never would have known he was such a legend. I still have a pick he give me one day we were hanging out. It’s personalized with his name and a Flying V. RIP

My very first concert was seeing Lonnie Mack at the Biddeford Ice Arena in Biddeford, Maine when I was about 13 with my dad . Being a kid I didn't know any better and walked right into the backstage area alone like I belonged there and met the man himself. He was a very nice man and a gracious host. Even let me play one of his famous Vs a little. I had no idea at the time what an honor and rarity that was to even touch one. Honestly one of the best memories of my adolescence. Thanks Lonnie, I'll always be grateful that you took the time to be nice and encourage me.

Danny died in 93 of a brain aneurysm he was 47 and I was 30. I was the drummer. I've never seen this video until now. I must say that Danny knew music and taught me guitar. Lonnie was a phenomenal musician. Wish I could have known him. Love this song . In my heart it's home cause I really am too rock for country and too country for rock & roll. RIP brother. Heavens got a heck of a band.

@wadeknight9202 - I recently went to see English guitarist/songwriter/singer Richard Thompson (for the umpteenth time). He spoke about the recently deceased Jeff Beck, admitted to 'borrowing' from him, but then added that Beck borrowed from the great Lonnie Mack, so that made it all fair (since all the greats borrow from other greats I guess?).
Today I decided to check Lonnie Mack out and I find that Thompson's 'unique' tone and phrasing is indeed indebted to Mack (and Reinhardt, Paul etc. etc.). Difference is that Thompson's song writing is next level and he also uses traditional (non blues) influences including soloing over a drone (bagpipe style), as well as being a superb acoustic player.

This song is our theme song for the group we go out with to country music events. So if anyone has the backing music I will love to have it. Grew up in the 50s with a guitar in my hand,
With the Grand Old Opry, Jimmy Reed and Bobby Blue Bland.
Everybody asked me what I play, everywhere I go.
I say I'm too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.
Well, my brother's in the Army with a country western band.
But I'm setting home, playing music with my old man.
When my uncle came to visit, he turned me on to Soul,
Now I'm too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.
So I'll just keep on playing
the songs I love to play.
That's all that matters any way.
Sometimes I think I'm standing in the middle of the road,
Cause I'm too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.
Well I'm too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.
But the whole joint's jumping and they keep on begging for more.
Cause when you're out there on the floor,
it don't matter which way it goes.
It ain't too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.
Yeah, when you're out there on the floor,
it don't matter which way it goes.
It ain't too rock for country, too country for rock and roll.

+Maria Pratiwi He gives and takes at will. Pretty sadistic tbh. He's probably having a lot of fun looking down on puny earthlings and their problems like starvation and disease.

I think it's about time you get better aquainted with your Bible, if you have one. Course, some people blame God for every atrocity out there. You ever heard of Satan the Devil? He's the one you need to blame. It's sefinitely not God's will for people to suffer starvation and disease. Again, that's the Devil's handywork. Take courage, not all is lost.

I think this song is perfect to describe the today's country.
No totally country, no totally rock...
    Country-rock (?)

Dear Uomo: I myself don't see this great album as being country or rock at all. I came here looking for country rock but what I found is the blues, hard gutsy blues. But what's in a label anyway? I love this album because every tune just kicks ass !!! That's good enough for me. ... jkulik919@gmail.com

Not sure what the gripe is, this is the original video that was played regularly on the original CMT when Stan Hitchcock owned it in the late 80's and early 90's. Loved it then, love it now. Have the CD.
