      it kinda feels like there was a cut line. it's not normal for jaiden to make bluffs, but that doesn't mean he can't. it's also not unrealistic for a player to try way to hard to play around backrow cards, so maybe dimitri was hoping to draw some removal.
      if they just highlighted either jaiden placing down polymerization as a bluff, or if dimitri acknowledged that face down as potentially dangerous, then the play would make a lot more sense than just objectively wrong.

    In all fairness, Dimitri's ability to learn off of and copy another player just based on their recorded Duels and strategies is *really impressive*
    Keep in mind, he had *no time* to practice with Yugi's deck and yet he was able to use it almost as if he was the King of Games himself.
    If Dimitri had just gone with Bastion's route he might have been really succesfull tbh. Basically, instead of trying to have one deck that he copied, he should instead have multiple decks for different types of opponents. A strategy where his knack for studying others would have been at its strongest.

One was that I love when Chaos Soldier is treated as a boss monster, it is my favorite monster and what I built my deck around once I got back into Yugioh through video games a few years ago(yes I know it is not actually considered good but I am a casual player and just like using what I like).
    Second is the ending statement really is right, when you build your deck picking your own cards for all the particular plays and scenarios that could come up it gives you this great feeling of "okay I know if I draw this card, this card, or this card then I know I can get out of this situation" which is a great feeling.

Yugi's deck is LEGENDARY and with how big of a fan Jaden seems to be in the short moments we get to see him talk about the King of Games, I believe Jaden and quite a few others would know a lot of the cards Yugi plays, including Cards of Sanctity, which means foresight is something Jaden absolutely has here. TLDR It's not just that he set it, but that he sets Poly now, but rather that he didn't set Poly earlier when it made more sense to do so.
      For sure, it's just a little unusual for a player to make a play based on a card that their opponent COULD have as opposed to a card that they, themselves, actually have and are using right now. So it's not so much that he set Polymerization, as much as it is that it just makes much more sense for him to have set it earlier to ensure that his own plan couldn't fail. He willingly gambled on a 25% chance instead of making it a 100% chance, but then sets Polymerization in case of what I will generously call the 1/20 chance of drawing Card of Sanctity or 1/10 if we want to add in Card Destruction like another commenter mentions.

      I mean, this isn't early manga. The fusions are physical cards. It's plausible he's just never seen a card like Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer (or Plasma Vice here, for that matter) despite them existing. For a more studious student like Zane, Alexis or Bastion, they probably do a fair amount of research into potential cards for their Decks. Jaden definitely doesn't. (Heck, as we've seen before, he sometimes doesn't even know what his OWN cards do. He was surprised when Aqua Neos returned to the Extra Deck against Aster, for example.)

    This is my favorite episode (or episodes since it was a 2-parter) of the series. I loved how the music kept switching back and forth from the normal GX background music to the classic score whenever Dimitri made a move. I also love how seemingly EVERYONE forgot that BLS was a part of Yugi's deck (though the one that Yugi summoned was the effectless ritual monster, not the retrained Chaos version) and the leadup to BLS almost winning the game was, up to that point, the most dramatic near-defeat of the series.
    "The trouble isn't deep, it's subterranean" was also a fantastic line.

Dimitri was right that he needed to summon Dark Magician of Chaos to get over bladedge. And he knew to activate it during the battle phase to get in another attack. It seems Dimitri called off his Dark Magician's attack thinking he wasn't allowed to attack Burstinatrix when the replay occurred. He thought he was forced to attack Bladedge or not attack at all. Maybe because he though replay rules dictate you must attack the newly summoned monster or that A Hero Emerges has some attack management effect. Jaden got lucky that Dimitri misplayed heavily on here and was silent on it.

    Basically, Dimitri did technically win when he attacked Bubbleman with Dark Magician Girl and Avian with Black Luster Soldier but in the anime, Jaden’s Skyscraper Field Spell gives his Elemental Heroes 1,000 extra attack points during his opponents battle phase - in real life it only works on your own battle phase leaving your Elemental Hero wide open when your opponent summons and attacks with a stronger monster in their turn.

    So a big shenanigan in this duel is Skyscraper's effect, in every other duel and in real life card effect, Skyscraper only gives 1000 atk boost when a Hero monster attacks a monster with higher attack, not when it's being attacked. In this duel Jaden should have lost in two instances, when Dark magician girl attacked Bubbleman ( Jaden had 1500 LP left; 2300-800=1500 damage k.o.) and when BLS attacked Avian ( Jaden had 1800 LP; 3000-1000=2000 damage k.o.).

    Dimitri also used an Ancient Gear deck in the beginning of the episode and did the same combo that Crowler did in the first episode to summon Ancient Gear Golem.
    If he wasn't a one-off character, he could have had a lot of potential. I imagine that after he learns his lesson about how imitating strong duelists isn't the only thing that can make you win duels, he will become a Manjoume-like character but instead of Ojama/Armed Dragon/VWXYZ, he jams together all the archetypes used by all sorts of duelists he idolizes.
    At the end of the episode, he even starts imitating Jaden. Imagine if he became a recurring character who played E-HERO, Ancient Gear, and Yugi's cards in one deck. It would be hilarious (and also very cool if he manages to make it work).

    WIthout hindsight, I think Dimitri made the best turn 1 play. Yeah, he could've dealt a quick 2100 damage, but it'd mean burning through his hand: playing it careful because Jaden still had a full hand was the right move: over-extending was just too dangerous at that point. Likewise, Swords of Revealing Light is best saved for when you know you need the attack block (such as the next turn where Dimitri was in top-decking move, so it was too risky to risk Jaden battling Gazelle without summoning anything). Of course, had Dimitri known he'd want Dark Magician in the GY and an extra body on the field due to Dark Renewal, that'd change everything, but he had no way of knowing what he'd top-deck.

    Interesting gameplay mechanic regarding Emergency Provisions: If Jaden/Judai had set the Spell/Trap cards first and then used Polymerization/The Warrior Returning Alive, he could've chained Emergency Provisions to gain an extra 1000 life while still getting the card effect off since it doesn't negate it.

    Need to mention that Jaden's bluff with Polimerisation also does not make sense because Dimitri knew it was Poli cause Jaden had added it earlier with Wroughtveiler.
    Dimitri, if he had set Reincarnation, could have activated it to get Pot of Greed, get BLS immediately, then switch all his Kuribo tokens to attack, activate Reincarnation to get back DM, tribute watapon and Dark Magician of Chaos for DM, special BLS, attack Burstinatrix with BLS, attack again, attack Bubbleman with DM (Jaden 1300 -> 600) and finish it with the Kuribo tokens. Yeah, kinda counterintuitive, but logical if you think through it.

      eh well when you think about it, several turns had passed when he brought it back to his hand from Wroughtveiler. It's still a logical guess it was still polymerization(and it was) but it's not like Jaden immediately set it on the field after retrieving it from his hand

    • @brokendoll3368
      @brokendoll3368 Рік тому +3

      @@Frenzyshark Well, it depends on how well the specific duelist pays attention to such things and is capable of remembering it later on. (Also, it would not be a "guess" as it was the last card in his hand.)
      Though, for Jaden it would honestly be quite out of character to think about his opponent to such a degree.
      It's also a bit funny btw that Jaden set it so he would get an extra card later, but had he chained Emergy provisions to either Poli or Warrior returning alive, he could have got it without the extra card anyway.

      In case you're wondering why to summon Dark Magician in the first place, it's because Dimitri had five monsters (Watapon, DMoC and three tokens that can't be tributed) so he needed one more space. I think Dimitri should have more credit. The whole "make your own deck and believe in your cards" is cute. But it's said in front of large amount of background characters that contribute absolutely nothing to the series. Knowing and believing in their decks didn't take them anywhere either. Demitri's ability to learn and copy that well based on limited information is amazing. He should be encouraged to further his talents. Not discard them for a playstyle that won't take him anywhere either.

    • @noelleholiday61
      @noelleholiday61 7 місяців тому

      Did it really not take them anywhere? Or did they lose because they're hobbyists and/or poor duelists, or did we just not learn where they went because they aren't the main characters, and we would have if they were? Also, the "heart of the cards" is about using cards that are important and mean something to you, even if they aren't top tier powerful cards. When you use your own deck that you made, you learn how the cards synergize, you learn how to make great combos even from sub-optimal cards. And if that's not enough, so what? GX's literal final lesson is to just have fun dueling, and to take it in grace whether you win or lose. Yes, Dimitri's skills for analysis are AMAZING, but he should use that to craft his own deck which plays to HIS strengths, not someone else's. THATS why he loses. He's not really trying to make his own strategy on the fly, he's just recycling the strategies of another duelist.

    Honestly I think Dimitri's weakness isn't even that he "net decks." It's that he thinks if he can find the one magical perfect deck he'll become the best duelist.
    He has good technical skills, and is able to adapt his playstyle to a new deck extremely well. If he just stuck with those decks for a while and got his reps in, he'd be a force to be reckoned with, kind of like Mimasaka from Food Wars with his "Perfect Trace"

    Banish Skyscraper.

    In the turn where Dmitri summoned Dark Magician of Chaos, since A Hero Emerges doesn't negate the attack (The only reason the attack stopped was because a replay occurred), he would have been able to use Dark Magician to attack Burstinatrix, then activate Dedication through Light and Darkness during the Battle Phase and use the newly summoned Dark Magician of Chaos to destroy Bladedge, taking out both of Jaden's monsters in one turn.
