Just found your video and wanted to say a belated Congrats on your new cabin! It's my dream to get a small shed and put it on a piece of land. My son has a farm in Northern Wisconsin and there's a small spot by the river which would be lovely. The only issue I'm worried about is zoning and government interference. I think if you're paying taxes on your land you should live how you want, period.

Welcome and Thank you.. .. Check on the size restrictions that require a permit.. They require a permit on larger than 200 sq ft here,, so this is 198.75 sq ft.. but just like you pay taxes on your car,, you can't drive how you want,, and a structure is much more permanent.. So if you follow code it "should" be doable.. especially if there is already a farm there,, how would they know you are not using it just for storage.. Don't let anyone look at it (or on property) without a warrant.. Good Luck.!!

@@catezaida8081 It sounds like you are well on your way.. Congrats.. Water is not really that big of an issue.. Figure out how much it costs to get setup to haul yourself or have someone else truck it in.. I will be here 20 years before doing it myself would be cheaper,, but by then I would need a new trailer so it starts all over.. I pay ~160 for 2100 gallons of potable water delivered about once a year.. Whichever shed you do go with,, be certain that ALL the windows are only 3' from the floor.. sitting on the couch I am always straining to see out the window as mine are over 3 1/2' high..
Solar is really easy when you break it down.. It has 3 parts.. Charging = Solar panels and charge controller.. Storage= Batteries.. Electric Usage= inverter.. Sometimes hooking those things together can be daunting but for someone that can run a ranch alone I am positive you can do it.. I have videos up about what I have for solar,, and I can help you design a cost effective system that will work for you, if interested.. ..Up to this point I have had absolutely no problem with any illegals,, I have only seen 4 in the 6 years I have had this place and they were friendly.. I do fear it will get worse but nothing I can do about it except keep my dogs and guns full.. .. Happy Trails.!!

One question I ask everyone that wants to move around here: Why would I want you as a neighbor.? More people cannot possibly improve what I have.. .. If you really want to be that far out,, look in Why, AZ .. If you want just a little cooler than here, try Cochise county around Wilcox and south of there.. If you want a little cooler than that look around Seligman where they have 40 acre tracts.. All 4 places have some property you can pick up cheap.. I have more solar vids from then (2018) you might find interesting and possibly helpful.. Think of solar like you do a computer.. only 3 things you need to learn for a computer: using a mouse,, using a keyboard,, and watching a monitor.. That is really ALL there is to it.. same thing with solar; you have your battery chargers, (aka solar panels),, the charge controller to control the current going into the batteries,, and your usage controls , (aka batteries and inverter..) .. of course there is a little more to it than that,, mainly the wiring part that can be confusing.. .. I have never seen a building much less a home set on the dirt. In Arizona, most of the floors are concrete, and since you don’t have this, it seems like you would want ventilation under your floor so there would not be condensation. I’m not understanding this. Your home is beautiful though.

I bought the property of 1.3 acres in 2014 for 1K with the plans to use it for a bug out location..
In Feb 2016 I had the green trailer put on property just in case a SHTF occurred..
In Aug 2016 the green trailer was broken into and burglarized.. so that put a kink in all the plans..
In April 2018 I had the green trailer moved about 200 feet so I could put the RV on property and live in it full time..
All the while planning on putting a cabin on site.. (My first vid from Nov 2014 I talk about it)
In April 2020 the cabin finally arrived.. and I did a bunch of vids about how I finished it off..
Behind the green trailer is another RV that someone is renting a storage spot..
Behind that is my neighbors with about 5 RV's and they live there full time as well..
I have an extensive video library of all these things along with what it took to actually live out here
as far as getting water,, a solar system installed,, heating,, cooling,, heating water,, rain catchment,, etc..

Haul it yourself can get expensive as well,, first you need trailer and a "bucket" to put the water in and a vehicle to tow it with the associated maintenance and ancillary things like pumps and hoses etc.. I found a delivery service that brings 1000 gallons at a time,, 2 cents a gallon for water,, 6 cents a gallon delivery charge + tip.. (I always tip well as he is my lifeline)..I use about 1400 gallons a year.. So, as you can see it is vastly cheaper to have it delivered.. (it would take 100 years to get to 20K.) Use that google thing on your internet machine to look for fresh water delivery in the area you want to move into.. In any case you will need a big bucket to store it in.. I've done videos on the delivery of that,, the water delivery,, and just about everything else you could/would want to know about how I do,, what I do,, out here.. (almost 300 vids).. I don't do them anymore because I ran out of things to do out here.. lol.. Thanks for watching.. ..Happy Trails.!!

@deserthorizons ahh OK I was wondering if you were using an extraction method. I'm considering a desert area myself and wanted to use a water seer device to pull water from the atmosphere. . It's wind powered and supposedly can pull 11 gallons a day even in arid areas.... I've got no.problem paying to have water delivered my only concern would be to not be dependent on an outside entity.. . If SHTF I don't want to stuck in the middle of nowhere without water lol.

Thanks for all the information. I guess the difference is you got a mini house and Don got a cabin. I still don't understand why they couldn't give you the windows and things you wanted.. Your windows are beautiful and add a lot of beauty on the inside too. I like the idea it came with the porch. You will get a lot of joy out of having such a nice porch. It looks large. I notice you have bushes close to your dwellings. Rattle snakes are bad this year. Probably because of all the fires last year in Oregon, CA, Colorado and Arizona they are coming closer to people and water. I live in southern California and recently on the news a woman walking her dog ran into a Rattler that sudden appeared from behind a bush and bites her dog in the mouth. The vet couldn't save the dog. At the same time a man was at a city park when his 2 year old ran over near a bush. He heard a rattle where a rattlesnake was right next to his child ready to strike. . Luckily he was able to grab the child. You need to be careful out there. Arizona also has the tiny coral snake. The snakes are what scares me. Your lucky you bought a few years back as property is going up everywhere. What a pretty door on your little storybook house. I have watched Incredible Tiny Homes.com out of Tennessee since he started blogging. He shows how he builds his RV's he sends all over the country.. The tiny houses have much better use of space that stick built houses could incorporate into their builds. Well we had a colder winter this year with highest winds I've ever seen. Just hope we don't get the fires like last year and I hope Arizona stays safe. Cheers

They could have easily given me the windows I wanted,, IF I knew what I should have wanted then.. I was going to get a 8 x 24 and then add a porch later.. I realized that I got exactly that with this design.. This is essentially (2) 8 x 12 sections put together with a porch thrown in.. Once I was able to wrap my head around that,, the rest was easy.. I have videos from a coupla months prior to this one talking about "floorplan decision time".. .. I had a very close call with a rattler out here,, and Ruger has saved my butt more than once alerting me to their proximity.. I am always careful about snakes.. I saw a coral snake here once too,, but it wasn't "tiny".. it was a good 2' to 3' long.. I thought I was hallucinating because (in my mind) coral snakes were water loving snakes.. Only saw it once about 5 years ago.. .. I was being blessed when I found this property.. Exactly what I wanted where I wanted,, with a Saguaro in view..!! .. .. I keep thinking I need to paint the front door,, but cannot decide on a color.. "Opera Red" is the only one I have come up with but don't know if it goes.. Any Ideas.?.. .. fyi,, this little cabin is actually narrower inside than an RV... My motorhome is 7'9" wall to wall.. this cabin is 7'5" wall to wall.. but because I designed how I wanted things to be in here it seems so much bigger than the RV.. I always feel cramped in there.. I hope you and I do not have to deal with "the fires" this year.. but I fear they will be back with a vengeance.. take care have fun.. .. Happy Trails.!!

I'm having to purchase an off grid property as close as possible near the Phoenix AZ area. I do want the property off grid style. How far is this area from Phoenix???? I'm looking for an hour or a little over an hour drive to Phoenix with the drive to Phoenix hopefully not containing any massive mountain range. Any suggestions would be more appreciated than you could ever imagine... Also it needs to allow a tiny home, etc.

Howdy.. ..It is the "close to the Phoenix area" that will present the most problems.. Phoenix is in Maricopa county which has strict regulations regarding where tiny homes can be parked and/or lived in.. Much like Pima county where I am located.. btw, there are no "massive mountain ranges" in Arizona anywhere close to Phoenix.. (Flagstaff is only 8000 feet).. Check and see around Wickenburg if that is close enough for you.. Why, may I ask, do you want (need) to be anywhere close to Phoenix.? Check on craigslist twice a day every day until you see what you want.. All it really takes to live off grid is a septic system and the county has no problem with it.. There are a large number of places up there to buy land you can live how you want.. There are also large numbers of places where there are restrictions.. Here for example I could not live like I live 5 miles down the road,, in the same county... If you have neighbors that will bitch about how you live or that you are creating an eyesore,, forget it.. You need to get a piece with no neighbors and far enough back to not be bothered.. That is where you start.. This was part of a subdivision that was going to go HOA.. The HOA has to pay the city, county, and state to do what they do.. The HOA here stopped paying that fee back in the 90's.. So no one is "managing" these properties.. Keep Looking.. ..Happy Trails..

The reflectix does not work as insulation in your use case. It is more of a vapor barrier in the way that you're using it beneath the floor. It's a common misconception, but reflectix only works to mitigate radiant outside heat from coming in if there is an airtight gap. Some people will argue that it doesn't work very well even when properly installed. It will not keep inside heat from dissipating to the outside under any circumstances. I always tell people, just use real insulation. You can properly insulate with all sorts of things.

    • @deserthorizons
      @deserthorizons  3 роки тому +2

Everything you said is true.. but.. insulation is latin for dead air space.. so any and all dead air space is a plus.. I watched a channel called "Boss of the Swamp" and he swears by it.. So I thought what the hell.. My intention was to seal this place off from any cold drafts.. In later videos I explained how I did the floors,,.. foam ,, floorboard,, elastomeric,, MORE REFLECTIX,, foam padding,, and carpeting.. btw,, I also put white Reflectix on as my walls.. Just survived winter and it was very cozy and warm in here even with the wind just howling outside.. I did everything the way I did because I had to do it by myself.. These floors were very nice and warm all winter,, so say what you want about reflectix,, I think it works very well for the cost and labor involved..
