I love that JP rotates the plane to show Louis an island he's seeing. That sounds amazing.
American Samoa isn’t a country, it’s a territory of America, that’s why it’s called AMERICAN Samoa
Well, American Samoa is a dependent territory, (Hong Kong is also a dependent territory). In other words American Samos is a Unincorporated unorganized territory of the US. So American Samoa is very much its own country, but it is not independent
The US is a sovereign state/country with multiple countries underneath is. Much like how Denmark has the 2 countries of greenland and the faroese under them
American Samoa is US soil period.
From the context you would realise that by country, Louis is not using the dictionary definition, but the common misconception that a country is an independent state, a nation. Thus Louis would be incorrect to assume that he is visiting a new, 'country,' as it does not fit his own definition of a country. Measuring states that do have some level of autonomy, which could be considered countries in their own right, is much less interesting than counting fully independent countries with different governance.
Furthermore, Hong Kong is plaintively not a country; it does not a degree of self-governance as all government officials of Hong Kong have to be vetted by another country, that being China, so you cannot consider Hong Kong to be self-governed in anyway way. It's like saying Vichy France was self-governed.
I agree with you on the first part, but I look at Hong Kong as a country. Hong Kong does infact have high levels of autonomy. The 4 main factors to make a country is having a permanent population, which they have. Having a government, which they have. Having a defined territory, which they have. and capacity to enter into relations with other countries, which they do through trade, like being a part of WTO and APEC
Nice to meet you here in American Samoa sir Louis!!!
1:52 Every time I see the landing gear retracting I think the same thing: "It looks so sketchy!"
hey bro, how much did you guys spend from beginning to end....just the cost of parking and fueling the airplane throughout your travels.
That is the question indeed
Well, that Fiji is ripping of with landing fees is well known. There was even a warning about it on earthrounders. That is why most earthrounders try to avoid Fiji these days.
he should go by Tahiti as was his original plan... he missed now so much of the cultures in the Pacific and Latin America....
Park up, Enjoy the fees and Sleep the Adventure...... boom!
Hi Louis would you please kindly make a list out of all airport charges and all aviation gas fueled up cost on the Cessna 210
Up to 10 days in Hawaii but no days in South America :/
They could not go to South America from New Zealand as planned because of the lack of avgas in the island stops in the South Pacific that they would have had to land on to make it across to Chile.
They had to spend a long time in Hawaii because they were getting a bigger tank fitted so they would have enough fuel to make it to California :)
Better to not risk it :)
Yes its sad, to be in a country but could not explore it.
Wait. Louis has gone from some guy with a camera uploading videos to UA-cam to being an actual legit explorer. This project is actually legit :) Kudos to JP the pilot too. What a dream come true for both of them. ✌
How much did all the fuel and landing/custom fees end up costing you on the whole trip?
Fiji must be trying to discourage general aviation or private flying from stopping in?
Very close to 2 million! Isn't that a crazy milestone, Louis?
11:30 " It was quite a beatiful sunset anyway, we`ve just missed it " , Oh, great ! 🙌
That ski equipped C-130 at the airport is probably bound for (or returning from) Antarctica. They use them to ferry equipment, scientists and other personnel to the US research stations there. They normally fly to Antarctica from Christchurch, New Zealand. It's probably there on a layover/fuel stop before or after a South Pole mission.
Wow 3000$ fees. Anyways i enjoyed this video :)
Loving the adventure. Really cool. Amazing. What I’m not loving is how JP is never wrong and knows everything 🙄
Thanks so crazy how you flew into yesterday.. I can't wrap my head around that.
What an adventure you boys are living! It's gotta be intimidating doing these long and remote flights, but you're killing it!
Sorry to burst your bubble Louis, American Samoa is not a country. It is an Unincorporated American Territory.
An Englishman once argued with me that Hawaii is a country of its own, until I proved him wrong. Considering the UK has four countries according to them. I suppose it's not surprising to hear that.
@@ysfma755 Well, in fairness, the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Ireland is essentially four separate countries joined together in a union. Hence the name United Kingdom, made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Given this, I could see how a person who otherwise is none the wiser would think that Hawaii is it's own country. Also correct me if I'm wrong, I believe Hawaii was independent at some point or another.
Louis, you should consider editing the ATIS into certain shots, like at 8:25ish just let it continue with the music even though youre showing an outside camera. could be a cool effect.
I love the confusion talk of what day you guys were stepping into. #baffled
Great video guys. Well done JP on the flying.
When you get to Hawaii visit the LDS cultural center. You will meet students from many Pacific islands.
You guys are on a real budget trip there :)
3k wow, i travel for three months on that price, all inclusive 😂
where do you travel LMFAO
Tech News India 😉
LMFAO
dude how?? teach me your ways
It depends the location! but right now traveling in india, staying in hostels, buying food in local markets you go easy under 1k a month brother ;)
I am having flashbacks of flying CH-46 helicopters over the Pacific in the US Navy back 1990's
autopilot aileron servo correcting like crazy. is this normal?
Raffles gateway hotel. Stayed there twice before going to Port denarau and on to the outer islands they are amazing and the people are lovely
Why'd you guys put the official looking shirts back on?
Damn!!! those fees were a lot!! But louis and JP thank you for sharing these videos thy motivate so many of us!!
You time travelled and went back to yesterday. Time travel is possible :) It will be good for when I can't remember what happened yesterday.
You have to go back to Samoa soon! I grew up there and it could be my favourite place in the world.
Anyone know the airport code for this airport?
American Samoa isn't a country
People refer to it as a country because they either don't know or don't remember that it's a territory in the same way the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico are. Hawaii is a state of the U.S. It's all so confusing.
Why does yoke work continuisly to the left to the right again and again?
Hey, why did you need a dry suit for the other legs but not this one?
You’re flying a lot and going to a lot of countries but it doesn’t seem like you’re able to do much when you get there
Glad you uploaded this, I’m pulling an all-nighter so I don’t miss my flight to Kuala Lumpur 👊🏻
Hi, what is that game called the two guys are playing at the airport?
I think the C-130 might be out of Syracuse, NY? I saw a documentary on the Discovery Channel about flights they make to Greenland carrying researchers & their equipment.
BYTW - the airports should have waved your fees.
You're doing great guys! Love every episode you post (okay maybe not the one with the video game 😉)
What I don't understand is why you can only stay one day in Fiji, but you can stay in Hawai for a week (or may be 10 days)
Why not stay a bit longer in Fiji, to show us the island and do an interview.
And another question, if you wouldn't have had the arrival party, would you have stayed longer in some countries?
Is de deadline making you rush?
I'm really curious!
❤from the Netherlands❤
3000$ per day fees, thats 30000 for 10 days. It's a solid GOASAP reason.
Great Video Loius As Usual
Thanks for the great video, again!
Well, I could not understand the fees at Nadi Airport. Seemed high to me, like galactically high. Did you bother to consult an Airport Facilities directory for Nadi? They hammered you big time. Landing fees, parking fees, disposal fees, tax, whatever, about 100.00 US.
This whole question if whether some place is or is not a country is really annoying. There are countries that have other countries as territories in including Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, French Polynesia, French Guyana, etc. They're generally thought of as their own country even though by definition they're not. It can be confusing to try to remember which are countries, territories. states, continents, provinces, cities, towns, villages, prefectures, regions, etc. capitals, etc.
80th Country? Man I have 51
I am curious how much this trip cost. A T210 costs about $200/hr based on U.S. fuel prices. Probably $300/hr when flown in other countries. 150 hours in the airplane will be about $45k. With the ridiculous landing fees in some of these countries, emergency supplies, and hotels etc.. I am thinking it might be $100k .
Awesome....Enjoy your ride be safe.....
how are you aloud to fly over water on single engine so far?
TheRusschannel Why shouldn't they be allowed? If they are prepared for all possible emergencies, there should not be any problem in doing so.
Still haven’t received the documentary, even though I ordered it 3 weeks ago, hope it will be here for Christmas.
Charles Collett It wont be out until next year:( you will have pre-ordered it, which means when it releases you are guranteed to get one. It will be such a long process to edit it, it isn’t going to be out until some time in 2018.
How much does fuel cost
what happened at 8:09
Weather conditions of the airport
I can’t imagine how that stop there in Fiji could cost so much. I’d like to see a breakdown of what made up that tremendous amount.
The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region.
wait you now have almost 2 million subs? last time I checked you had just over 1 million wow
Live the adventure
Why not just park at the aero club on the other side?
fuel was the most expensive, more than a $1000.
Your always flying 😲
It's the avgas 100LL fuel that's bringing the cost up, must be expensive to ship it there I imagine everyone is using jet-A out there.
Didn't they refuel upon arrival? Thought the $3k was just airport fees.
The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region.
people need to realise that nearly half the cost is for fuel and fuel is really expensive (US$3.91/L)
Even with the fuel charge it’s looks like there was some price gouging maybe. Looking at the parking fees, passenger fees, and landing fees on the fiji airport website for aircraft under 15 tons I don’t see how they managed to get the bill so high
Geeses. Love to know what this entire trip totaled out at $wise. That is friggin ridiculous!
For real. Let us know
Probably in the hundreds of thousands. They do have sponsors so that's how they finance at least part of the cost.
Parking was ~310 USD, the rest was fuel and taxes
Man! 3k... You got robbed. I love how you stay so calm. That is so crazy.
You either pay or you don't get to fly.
Sailboat for the next time around this spinning rock.
I don't what he means by 3000$ is that way too high or low for parking a plane?
What do you normally have to pay at other airports can someone pls tell.
Albuquerque NM, USA it is $10/ night for tie down on the ramp, and $35/night in an enclosed hangar. (For a Cessna 210)
The USA has it so easy...the rest of the world is a complete different story. The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region. nearly all our clients who take their first long range flights out of the USA are shocked with prices and rules away from their comfort zone...
@@arcturas9 Free vs not-so-free. I've only flown in about 10 countries but USA is by far the cheapest (and most free).
@@NVFlyer This my stand too...it is why I call the USA a General Aviation heaven. The freedom to fly a small private aircraft around the country is something 99.9% of the rest of the world dreams about. One of my toughest jobs is letting prospective long range adventure pilots from the US (and some other relatively great GA countries) that they are about to be fleeced by the 'rest of the world' ;-)
@@arcturas9 I'd love to fly my Dakota around the world, but it isn't the most efficient aircraft in terms of miles per gallon.
That tablet is driving me nuts, wiggling like that while autopilot flies.
$3,000 landing parking fee.... Holly crap!
U needa go to TONGA make it 89
You should have gone to Aiitutaki there you have the moste beutiful water in the world and the most beutiful lagon in the world Loui
Times zones are very strange
I love how the iPad just tilts back and forth...
$3000 for parking fees?? Is a Signature Flight Support running that place?!
Prob Atlantic...
My local 'drome will tuck a 210 into a nice hangar for 35 bux a night.
That wasn't just for parking fees...it is the whole cost including airport fees and permits etc. Very expensive I know but not unusual in that part of the world. In fact, because the guys used us as Flight Support agents they actually paid less for the whole trip than if they had used another company.
These fees are not just parking fees but airport fees, handling charges, parking, CIQ and permits.
Ya.. this was just a joke on Signature. I am aware of the other charges.
Thanks for the subscribe 💕💕💕🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
American Samoa isn't actually a country. It's an overseas territory of the USA.
However the blog is nice :)
hey man where are you from....i'm from UK....oh nice....doesn't even look at you! hahaha....that was epic
80th Country? Man I have 51
When you leave can you go back to Pakistan for 3 days and try their food
6:46 ...
back to the future
Let’s go champ!
I wonder how much this entire trip cost, probably at least $250,000, including the airplane.
That plane with the skis is probably from the secret bases in Antartica ; /
Yo, you could leave me right here, bro!
Watch out for North Korean missiles :)
80th Country? Man I have 51
Yesss.
MORE BROLE!!!!
3000 could buy you a group share of a light aircraft like a cub or cessna 150 l0l
$3000 is ridiculous. There wasn't another airport nearby that was cheaper?
The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region. We would have suggested Noumea in New Caledonia as a better and cheaper stop than Fiji but the diversion to New Zealand changed the plan to make Fiji a stop.
9:38 technically isnt it part of the US ? not an independent country
$3,000? For parking? Oh my gosh. I now appreciate aviation in the USA.
Sky captain and the world of tomorrow..er..yesterday
What’s with the autopilot shifting left and right on the yoke??... doesn’t seem right
I never knew there was an island with that name.
Samoan Joey diaz 10:10
I thought your plane was super fast until I realised it was sped up.
3 I phone x for just parking 🙂
Not for parking. These are all the fees...parking, handling, airport fees, CIQ and permits. Expensive yes but not unusual for these parts.
3k to land for 1 night! wow. highway robbery
The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region.
American Samoa is a US territory...
Why does every pilot speak in that same tone over the microphone? Is it an inside joke or is their a purpose to it? Drives me crazy!
We can't help it. I was fully aware beforehand, then on my very first radio call on my first lesson, BAM-pilot voice.
uhh. still waiting on you to hit 2ml
Time travellers are real ;)
80th Country? Man I have 51
