    American Samoa isn’t a country, it’s a territory of America, that’s why it’s called AMERICAN Samoa

    • @BuRnNeTrO
      @BuRnNeTrO 7 років тому +23

      Well, American Samoa is a dependent territory, (Hong Kong is also a dependent territory). In other words American Samos is a Unincorporated unorganized territory of the US. So American Samoa is very much its own country, but it is not independent

    • @BuRnNeTrO
      @BuRnNeTrO 7 років тому +9

      The US is a sovereign state/country with multiple countries underneath is. Much like how Denmark has the 2 countries of greenland and the faroese under them

    • @MtotheW
      @MtotheW 7 років тому +1

      From the context you would realise that by country, Louis is not using the dictionary definition, but the common misconception that a country is an independent state, a nation. Thus Louis would be incorrect to assume that he is visiting a new, 'country,' as it does not fit his own definition of a country. Measuring states that do have some level of autonomy, which could be considered countries in their own right, is much less interesting than counting fully independent countries with different governance.
      Furthermore, Hong Kong is plaintively not a country; it does not a degree of self-governance as all government officials of Hong Kong have to be vetted by another country, that being China, so you cannot consider Hong Kong to be self-governed in anyway way. It's like saying Vichy France was self-governed.

    • @BuRnNeTrO
      @BuRnNeTrO 7 років тому +4

      I agree with you on the first part, but I look at Hong Kong as a country. Hong Kong does infact have high levels of autonomy. The 4 main factors to make a country is having a permanent population, which they have. Having a government, which they have. Having a defined territory, which they have. and capacity to enter into relations with other countries, which they do through trade, like being a part of WTO and APEC

      An Englishman once argued with me that Hawaii is a country of its own, until I proved him wrong. Considering the UK has four countries according to them. I suppose it's not surprising to hear that.

    • @DanTheCaptain
      @DanTheCaptain 4 роки тому

      @@ysfma755 Well, in fairness, the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Ireland is essentially four separate countries joined together in a union. Hence the name United Kingdom, made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Given this, I could see how a person who otherwise is none the wiser would think that Hawaii is it's own country. Also correct me if I'm wrong, I believe Hawaii was independent at some point or another.

    That ski equipped C-130 at the airport is probably bound for (or returning from) Antarctica. They use them to ferry equipment, scientists and other personnel to the US research stations there. They normally fly to Antarctica from Christchurch, New Zealand. It's probably there on a layover/fuel stop before or after a South Pole mission.

    What I don't understand is why you can only stay one day in Fiji, but you can stay in Hawai for a week (or may be 10 days)
    Why not stay a bit longer in Fiji, to show us the island and do an interview.
    And another question, if you wouldn't have had the arrival party, would you have stayed longer in some countries?
    Is de deadline making you rush?
    I'm really curious!

    This whole question if whether some place is or is not a country is really annoying. There are countries that have other countries as territories in including Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, French Polynesia, French Guyana, etc. They're generally thought of as their own country even though by definition they're not. It can be confusing to try to remember which are countries, territories. states, continents, provinces, cities, towns, villages, prefectures, regions, etc. capitals, etc.

      Not for parking. These are all the fees...parking, handling, airport fees, CIQ and permits. Expensive yes but not unusual for these parts.

      The invoice was for parking, airport fees, handling, CIQ, transport and permits. Expensive but normal for that region.
