I have one of these with the 2 stroke and one with the ubiquitous side valve; I've had them for years and they are virtually indestructible. I mow on a 6 acre property from lawn to literally scrubby grass, weeds, ferns, seedlings, sticks etc and these things do it all with ease. And as a bonus, they're light and easy to push as well.

This gets me excited. I picked up my series 1 550 for free with new blades and a new plug. It just needed a primer plate o-ring and a new rubber diaphragm. Starts first pop now. Brilliant mowers.
Such a good mower the 550 we had one at one of the golf courses I worked at along with a super 600 that was a awesome beast too. Just a shame they dont cut down to the height of the little 460 Or id have one of them again myself
No worries mate, This sorta set up is very common here in Australia they are called "swing back blades" as they can swing back if you hit a solid object and not damage motor shaft etc
Thanks mate late comment but i just rescued this exact mower from a clients shed and after i get i running it will save me on the thick steep banks or overgrown lawns. Front left wheel is floppy up down way might be missing a bolt spark plug boot perished but have crimped on a exposed ring fit and nut just to get it running could do with new pet cock blew out when cleaning tank 1st job on it and its missing the safety toe cutter side flap cheers.

Good video Brenton. I recently picked up a super 600 of an older chap who bought it new for maintaining his holiday home. I reckon it’s an 1981 vintage and it starts on second pull every time. It’s also fairly easy to manoeuvre for its size. My first victa two stroke and I love it 👍

I happen to also run old Rovers but as tough as they are they aren't suited to such heights. And you know how that stuff grows when you turn your back a few weeks. Thankfully I still see new 460s for sale here meaning parts will be easy. The Rovers are hard to get body parts for nowdays (sp50/560) in NZ. Good comments on the mulch disc and blade heights. Really useful to know.

I had one similar to this once when I used to be a lawn mowing contractor. Was a useless piece of garbage and the wheels (well, one of them) literally fell off. That was when I could get the stupid thing to start, while it was brand new! It was so bad I ended up taking it back and demanding a refund. Thankfully, I got all of my money back.
Thats a shame you had such a bad run with the victa, Biggest hint with them is to always turn off the fuel tap after use or they can flood and be hard to start other things to watch is getting the oil / fuel mix right

Noticed the front has gotten quite thick and dry. Starting to think it's getting a bit of thatch build up. Located in QLD when should I look at starting? I got the front at ~28mm and the backyard at ~34mm

Yeah Aussie mowers can cut so low. Plus they have the ability to collect grass like no other. Id love to ship you one mate but it would cost so much in freight!
Can anyone advise me on maximum rpm on Victa Utility 460 2 stroke 2 blades no catcher I think LM carby. It revs 3k no load but when mowing 2400RPM Can I increase revs without harming the engine?

I have victa 550 pro Mulch self propelled, do they go to zero height as well ? The blades on that is angled and not like yours. also it does not have a mulching disk and only accepts 2 blades and not 4.
Hey mate, Na the 550 doesn't cut as short at the 460, The earlier 550 only had 2 blades on them what colour is the base of yours Red yellow blue or grey?
there are a few difference BUT nothing that matters, e.g Non loop handle bar, smaller tank, Non ball bearing wheels. different intake manifold (bent v.s straight) maybe a slightly different rate spring in the carbie too.
If you are mowing couch grass something with some weight about it would be ideal. I have not had too much to do with Protea but from what Ive seen id choose one over some others out there
Top video B! I wasnt aware of the possibility to run 4 blades on the older utilitys (not that you would for scalps). Have you used it much as a tall grass slasher? How does the old 2 stroke go?
Hey mate it goes good I’ve used it a fair bit on long stuff plus before the Honda I use to mow the green surround with it. It cuts so sharply . Given it’s max height is only 50mm it does a great job on thick grass
@@theaussielawn thanks for the reply B, means a lot! I bought a new Victa, and it cuts from 22mm to about 70mm. I need it for dual purpose, but never used it for more than 50mm. Next day off I'll pull the 24mm spacers off the motor and machine up some 6mm to achieve scalp city! Thanks legend!! 👍👍🍻
No unfortunately mate most catcher models go to about 12mm the bigger utilities about that as well. Thats what makes them hard to find on the used market as they mostly got sold new to golf clubs, councils etc and by the time they where finished with them they where buggered

Still waiting to bring in the extra 40t of sand. Of late everytime I plan time off work etc to do it. It rains or its been raining and too wet to bring in heavy trucks, machines etc
