- We recently took a bus day trip on Jefferson Tours to Montgomery, Indiana to learn about the Amish lifestyle. We visited a quilt shop and it was there that we picked up our Amish Guide, Lydia. She was a very sweet lady that shared with us about their Amish community which is the third largest in the United States. Amish live with no electricity or running water and their transportation is horse and buggy. Even their children drove a pony and buggy to school. They attend school through 8th grade and then for the most part they work for their families.
We went to an Amish farm where they had prepared a wonderful meal for us. All food is made from scratch and those ladies sure do know how to cook.
We learned that they use solar panels and generators for lights and to run their appliances.
Mennonites differ from Amish because they chose to have electricity and drive cars.
The Amish life is simple yet so complicated with all the man made rules and regulations that they must follow to remain in the Amish church.
We also visited another Amish farm that had greenhouses filled with beautiful flowers that we could purchase for very reasonable prices.
Our last stop was Gasthof Amish Village where they had a restaurant, bakery, flea market, gifts shops, and antiques and collectibles. This was a great place to walk around and walk off the large lunch we had eaten earlier.
We highly recommend taking this trip. We learned so much about how the Amish live.

We appreciated Lydia giving us insight into their community and how they live.
I have a lot of respect for the Amish way of life. We have a number of Amish stores we like to visit in our travels and they do have some great baked goods and other foods made by that community. From everything I hear, they are very loving and forgiving. Which is why I really don't understand their tradition of shunning their own family members and friends who slightly differ from their beliefs. But otherwise, like I said, I think very highly of them. Thanks for sharing your visit to Indiana Amish country!
We learned a lot about the lifestyle. We don’t understand the shunning either.
F I live in Amish Country here in Pennsylvania. I absolutely love the people and the Farm Stands they operate in the area here are just amazing come late summer
They are the sweetest people and sure have beautiful gardens and are great cooks!
Congrats on winning bus bingo. We live in Amish country. Our builder is Amish. It is such an interesting culture. Lydia sounds so sweet. I love visiting Amish and Mennonite markets in the area.
We learned a lot about their way of life!
What a nice tour. So neat hearing the details of Amish living. Beep. Beep. Beep. 😂
It was very interesting to learn about their lifestyle
This is so interesting. Changed my entire perspective on their daily lives. I didn't think they allowed outsiders in their community. I've always been fascinated with the Amish lifestyle. Would love to visit their community
We found it so interesting! They don’t allow outsiders to live there but we can visit & they are incredibly gracious to share how they live
Your guide Lydia knows her stuff..a good and well informed guide. Nice to see there are now more opportunities to become acquainted with the Amish lifestyle. It looked an interesting excursion for sure. Thank you for sharing your experience. 👌🙋♀🥝
We enjoyed learning from Lydia. She was so gracious to share about how they live with us. Have a blessed Sunday!
We enjoyed your visit to Amish Country," Terri and Keith. Outhouses and all! 🤣🤣We love visiting Amish areas and most frequently visit Keith's neck of the woods. Fun and interesting tour. It's a different, but peaceful way of life.
We like our creature comforts too much
Not sure we could live that lifestyle 😅
I have seen them in Arkansas thay are amazing people happy Friday 😊 😃 😀 😄
They truly are!
So interesting! Enjoyed hearing her tell about how they help each other at all times. The food looked delicious.
It was delicious 😋
I live in Lancaster County and it is a daily occurrence running into or see the Amish in my area..... Such an interesting lifestyle!
For sure a different way of life!
Fun tour 😎 I bought the tastiest jelly at a Amish store 😋
They do have the best food!
I visited Lancaster, PA, where we were served a meal made by the Amish. Delicious! Unfortunately, I barfed it all about 30 minutes later. 😮
That’s unfortunate 😫
Very nice video. I had a friend that drove for the Amish in Davies County years ago. Regarding your note on Davies County being the third largest in the US, Lancaster, PA is #1, Holmes County Ohio is #2, LaGrange/Elkhart here in Indiana is #3, Adams County Indiana which we live a mile from is #5, and Davies County is #7. Being from Amish areas, we watch multiple Amish channels on YT.
Keith is actually from Elkhart area. We have been to many Amish places there. On our bus tour we learned a lot about the Amish lifestyle. So interesting. There are a couple Amish channels we watch as well. We so appreciate you watching. Have a blessed day! 😊
@@RetiredLovingItwe were up in Middleburry over the July 4th weekend. We drove all around the area including Shipshewana. Beautiful country side and the Amish up there are so different than the Adams County Amish who aren’t allowed to have a bicycle. Always blows my mind to see solar panels on the houses up there. Happy travels!
A great way to live a more simple and intentional way of life for sure. Might be able to go without electricity as there are other options, but not so sure about the indoor plumbing! lol Do make some pretty fantastic products!!
They are phenomenal cooks!
This was really interestingm thanks :)
We learned so much!
there are still lots of yards to plant here, hmm or livestock
A lot of work to be done for sure!
