Love those TrabMax2 - amazing grip on all wet/dry surfaces, and as someone who is not particularly stable, I found it plenty stable during a gnarly trail marathon in March (over ice, snow, mud, loose rock). Nary a slip or spill. Comfy as hell, felt great the next day too. Nice p-review of it!
Lol, when I lived in south Florida I used to say the same thing about Ginger Runner and the trails he ran on, of course, aside from his great reviews. Now I live here Seattle and get to experience it myself. Amazing!
I really enjoy shoe reviews while you are running! Plus on a day like that...wow! So Pacific NW looking, love it. I'm originally from there but live in the Midwest now. Happy running sir, once again thoroughly enjoyed this 😎🤙...neither shoe or make would be my first choice...or second...or third but one never knows in the world of one obsessed with running shoes...I am definitely that 😊
Hmm, another glide shoe from Salomon. I like the Ultra Glide and still wearing them without much breakdown at 150 miles in them. I've not had squeaks in any of the Salomon shoes. You mentioned no place to put laces. I tuck them under a crossover lace and voila, no more laces coming undone or flopping around.
Still waiting for the full review of the Trabuco Max 2 like you promised. Or you can do one better and do a comparison between the Max 2 and the Max 3.
Thanks for posting! It seems like every time I fall in love with a trail shoe, the manufacturer changes it to something unrecognizable! It's really frustrating. I've been bouncing around between New Balance, Hoka, and Saucony (Xodus Ultra 2) for a while, but none of them ever felt like it was "the one." I thought I'd give the Asics Trabuco Max 2 a try today and really enjoyed it. I did a 5-hour run right out of the box and loved the cushion and springiness. However, even though they are super cushioned, I never felt like they were bottoming out. Looking forward to going with the Asics for a while!
No squeak from my Glide Max TR’s so don’t let that influence your decision to buy. I heel lock the laces. I will note that the insole does seem to shift a bit and could be glued down or swapped out. I haven’t done that. It hasn’t been a big deal
Ye squeak is probably the insoles. Easily fixed. I usually swap the Salomon insoles with the Nike Trail ones, they are much better. Salomon really skimping on insoles and have totally abandoned Ortholite.
Rarely do I disagree Ethan but I think the Trabuco Max 2 is a shoe of the year contender. It’s lighter then the ASICS Nimbus 25, midsole is worlds better then the Speedgoat, the outsole grip is incredible as well. You called the Zegama your trail shoe of the year last year. This beats it in every way.
Why do you think that run was so beautiful dawg?? BECAUSE OF THE TRABUCO. I got them and ran like 80k in a few days, just BREEEEZING through the miles. I really like the trabuco max 2.
@The Ginger Runner. Are you still doing GRL? I know you aren’t doing it live except for patreon but are you now not posting it later? Hope all is well. Miss GRL.
Asics max stack. Not necessarily cushion. I dig the first version for certain runs. Definitely not for tech trails!!! I mean unless you like rolling ankles.
I also find the Trabuco Max 2 isn't cushioned much at all. Funnily the normal Trabuco is more cushioned. Yeah, don't look at me like that, I bought both and regret having bought the Max 2. The Glide Max TR is good, but I like the ultra glide 2 better.
I absolutely hated the trabuco max 2. Did 21 miles in them. Couldn't get mid foot lockdown for anything. Shoe felt like a board. Destroyed a toe nail. It was, in all honesty, the worst running experience of all time for me.
I hear you, I was totally disappointed with mine, too. I wanted to like it, so too late to return. The normal Trabuco 11 (GTX), for what it is worth, has a much roomier toebox and is way softer and better cushioned. Which I weird, the Max should be that. I blame this stupid guidesole technology with its super stiff rocker for it.
These trails look yummy. You should link the location. Or maybe not . . . Maybe keep the goodness all to yourself. Although it looks like you're meeting some pretty cool people out on the trailz. Keep up the goodness Ethan!
@@rogerbizarello9197hi, the Trail V3 is soft and bouncy while, despite looking so much cushioned, the sole and guidesole tech of the Max make them a stiff and hard ride. They are very different and not comparable despite looking both max cushioned.
I am 307 lbs and I brought Trabuco Max 2 shoe on my recent 15 mile hilly trail run and had zero leg or foot pain. I normally have foot pain after about 10 miles. It was a little short, so I returned and ordered 1/2 size bigger. Hoping that make the perfect heavy runner shoe. I typically use Hoka Speedgoat 5 Wide.
I’m 286 lbs and looking for the perfect shoe to wear on the Camino de Santiago. I am hoping to be able to walk 20km a day for two weeks. Would you recommend the Trabuco Max 2 for walking long distances?
@@markw76 thanks I’ll definitely give it a try. I have tried the hoka bondi 8 and though it was comfortable, I found that my legs are so tired after 7 kms. With ultraboosts, I could do 14 and my legs are not as tired. Fingers crossed for the trabuco max 2!
@@_EveryStepofTheWay I used these on an ultra marathon last week and they were great accept when there was narrow single track trail. There is a lot of flexing in that situation. Just figured I'd give you an update.
Guys please help me to choose my first 100k ultra running shoes, because I'm a bit confused. Thought that gonna be Brooks caldera 6, but make me blisters, I'm open for your opinions, but please no Altra, coz i need some drop.
Hi Ethan, which of these shoes do you recommend me? I like softer but springy cushioning, I prefer shoes with mid or larger width. My favourites are Mafate Speed 4, Caldera 6, Trabuco Max 2, Salomon Glide Max TR (you tested them) and S-Lab Genesis/Tecton X2/Cloudultra (you didn't test them).
@ 8:00 you put your foot on the ground and then straight into the shoe without brushing it off. I got so stressed out I almost had to turn off the video
I have the max 2 and it’s fantastic. Imo it’s a tad firm the first mile or so every run but then it just disappears on my foot. Great grip aside from really deep thick mud but not many will do well in that. Overall it’s great tho and I’m glad I got it. I have 40 miles in it so far.
I have a feeling a lot of shoe reviewers have altered memories of the original sense ride. I still have a pair and the midsole of the SR1 is super dense and firm, nowhere near as soft as things like the Glide Max.
I had the first version of the glideride. It was fine until it also had that squeeky sound. The outsole was also not as durable as my other salomons. Very hesitant to get anything from the glide series.
A thick boi with decent grip and a shoe that farts. Todays Trail Tested is a fun one!

I've done a 56km ultra on my Asics Trabuco Max 2 and it performed really well, especially on technical terrains. Grip and cushioning were outstanding.
Are they fine on technical parts with such a big stack? I'm interested in, but not sure about stability
@@lukasamd It was a good mix of everything and it provided me with confidence in navigation. Surprisingly stable despite its plushness.

160 USD for the salomon - not exactly on the cheaper side. Hoping these would've be around 130 maybe
Yeah that’s what I was hoping for too - when I saw the price while editing, I was le sad
An ASICS shoe I loved was the Fuji Lite 2. The ASICS grip is almost mega grip good and the shoe is light fits well.

Has the squeak gone away? Have you thought of adding Salomon quick lace system to the Salomon Glide Max TR?
Question, why don't you review Scott shoes? Or am I missing something?
Will be interested to see if Ethan warms-up much to the Asics "T. Max 2". Hoping for higher praise than, "it's not a whoopee cushion underfoot."
