There was so much grieving and sadness during that time. U2 was able to pay homage to that and also provide a much needed cathartic space for so many of us. LOVE this performance! Thank you for this reaction!

Such a great reaction, absolutely stellar commentary - U2 irrefutably accomplished one of the most epic, important, and emotionally potent musical performances in modern history, Superbowl or otherwise, regarding the shock and fragility of a nation, and the world at large. Spectacular review of this magnificent event, my friend

Sleepy-Celestial, you have done a very good thing here by highlighting this amazing performance AND gathering eloquent responses to YOUR response, in the comments here. We can continue to celebrate this and seek to keep learning the lessons we should have learned by now. I predict that when Bono's earthly life is over MILLIONS of people will, at that time, look back on this moment with great emotion. Of course, we don't have to wait until then.

Something deep and visceral about names. The Vietnam war Memorial in DC was controversial when it was first constructed, but it had such an emotional impact nothing else had.
Same here. There are three moments that hit me. #1 when the names start, the guitar hook starts, and the emotion hits you as "this is a touching tribute*. Halfway through you realize the sheer volume of the names "Damn that's a lot of individual people who lost their lives", and the curtain drops. And #3, him opening his jacket, the gesture of support, the "The World sees your pain, America and we unite as one in support" (U2 is a band from Ireland).
Also the song "The Streets have no name", refers to heaven, but it's the name of the song, what's important is the people, and the individual street you're on doesn't matter.
Also, U2 did this at their concert literally a few months prior, one month after 9/11, and after Janet Jackson cancelled after 9/11, the producers reached out to U2 as the only group who could help heal the nation, and the World the way they did.
