Good to see Andre taking the helm on this one alone. I think he likes it and he needs the same exposure as the others. Great job Andre! Keep pushing, doing more reviews, maybe even come out of your shell a little bit! But always stay true to yourself
I love my Colorado. Took the chin spoiler off and better tires. Now it's better off road and has a comfortable ride everywhere. $48,000 non Z71 with almost 140000 miles now and no brake downs. The brake pedal has always felt too soft. But I think a braded steel brake line kit would take care of it.
How often are you off road where that chin spoiler will be hitting rocks ? Colorado's and Canyons are trucks for the weekend warriors and they are perfect for that. I like to see a integrated adjustable tie down system for the bed.
36k is a lot for the small truck.. But if you compare it to the Tacoma or frontier it really mops the floor. Economically, in engine power, and capability. I'm not the biggest "mini-truck" fan, but this is a lot more practical. Plus after haggling you could probably get a fully loaded one for 30k and be happy, instead of 28k and settle for a lesser truck. Unless you are a fan of other brands and decided to wait for the competition to release new trucks and compare then.
I don't really think most people would go out to do serious off-roading in this truck as is, it really is more of a commuter and the people who are serious about off-roading will most likely get a mild lift kit I think. I do understand that the splitter is low but it's not that big of a deal in my opinion.
I own a 2015 colorado z71 and I had to remove the chin spoiler. And yes I was cursing the whole time. Thirteen screws in from the top down so you can't get at the heads, save for the three in the middle. Easy to remove my a@#. But it looks better with out it, and I haven't noticed any real decrease in fuel economy. Still getting in between 17 and 21 combined, depending on where I go and how loaded down I am. I have a cargo master 3 ladder rack and 28' extention ladder on the truck full time and I have put over 4,000 miles on it sence mid February 2015.
gargilbert none but there were two screws that had to be turned so they went up. They held the bumper cover at those two points but didn't attach to the chin spoiler. They were a real pain. But rake your time and it will be just fine.
the new colorado is growing on me i really like it i have a 2005. and im more than sure i will replace my 1 ton 88 silverado with one of these new ones with a 2.8 duramax
I have a 15' Colorado lt 2wd and I got stuck in Running Springs close to Big Bear In Sothern California in an icy pavement road up hill. Couldnt make it to my cabin. I'm not seeking to trade it for a z71.
Andrey Smirnov I really wasn't. For years GM products suffered from issues due to quality control. That is however a separate issue from engineering and GM is still an amazing engineering powerhouse. Now that they've improved in quality they are back at the top of their game. I liked the way that you plowed trough the dirt with it! There's no grass under your feet!
chevy you have done a great job with the looks of the colorado, but change the grille look, it doesnt look masculine enough, when i look at it it doesbt have a "power look", gmc has a great grille though
around 36K for a fully loaded Z71 4x4, impressive. Toyota just released their pricing and more detailed specs on the Tacoma. Theres top out at 38K. The reviewer on this Fast Lane Truck video notes that Colorado is priced higher that both Tacoma and Frontier, that is reflected on the older models. the Colorado in actuality is priced just under the new 2016 Tacoma. Not only that but the Colorado comes with more standard equipment and available options than the old generation 2015 Tacoma
I am in need of a new truck. I killed my 09 f150 I am wondering if I could live out of a midsize truck. Some of the used prices and miles are better than full-size. And does it have to be a Tacoma which seems to be priced like they are made of gold
This truck is pretty much three quarters the size of a half ton and gets maybe a little better mileage. The little diesel coming up should help them sell these things.
So at what point they go off road? I want to get rid of the taco but if this is all the Chevy can do ( I probably can do this easily in 2WD in Toyota - stock) I guess I be forced to keep on fixing it until something better comes.
Great review!! And a lovely truck indeed. I love the crew cab short box. That exhaust note does sound kinda disgusting though. Wheres the diesel!? Come on 2016! Lets go!!
Great job in what I presume is your first solo review. Btw Im Andre too and from the motherland. You have an accent but it isn't too 'Russiany,' you remind me of how I sound when I speak in English. Did you come to the US when you were young? I came to Australia when I was 2 but sound completely un-Australian in my accent but, neither do I sound Russian.
People who own the new Colorado, Fabtech susp, and BDS susp have released recently suspension lifts for the new truck. but........the new random bolt pattern is a nightmare lol
Excellent review. I think that we need more of the smaller or midsize trucks instead of these 80 inch + (width) monsters that are hard as $%^* to park anywhere. And then once they are parked, just try opening the doors. I am interested in seeing what Toyota comes up with for 2016. But I would not buy ANY first year model of a brand-new car or truck. That was something that my father taught me and I think that he was right about that.
BAU Full-sized trucks are ridiculously large and expensive. The Colorado is about $7000 cheaper for the same trim level and options. It's a little smaller, but not a "small truck" at all. It's about 90% the size of a full-size, but much easier to park and maneuver. Plus, the slightly smaller footprint would make it ideal for hunting and offroading since roads are usually more narrow when doing those things. Plus, the fuel economy is slightly better.
NovaScotiaNewfie I think they showed how it comes off fairly easy. Its for fuel efficiency, believe it or not that little strip of plastic can give you an extra mile or more per gallon. Anything more than minor trail riding and it wont last long anyways.
Hi I had a question I'm looking at a 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71 I'm told that the Z71 can in a two-wheel drive when I look inside the truck I can't find any knobs shifters or buttons to put it in 4-wheel drive I looked underneath the truck and it has a transfer case but I can't find no knobs of shifters mind you this is a a Ford dealership
James Mata For some odd reason GM has decided to hide 4x4 switch behind the steering wheel on the left side, right next to the light switch. You could actually confuse one for the other. One of the vary few things I don't like about this truck. I think just below the gear shifter would have been a much better spot.
jack in Vancouver He probably wouldn't have said anything if removing that stupid chin spoiler was mentioned in the original review. I think the spoiler is so ugly it should be recommended that people take it off in every review made. lol
There is no styling risk it is the Isuzu D max with a GM engine they should of went with the Isuzu twin turbo engine though The main problem is the price . you can buy a nice 1/2 ton for that price today As much as these guys want to push it I can't see people wanting this over a 1/2 ton pickup
David Stanley 1/2 ton Silverado's with the same trim level are about $7000 more than the Colorado. Plus, those things are not easy to drive in urban areas, and parking can be a bitch. I think the Colorado is the perfect size. I just wish Gm would start offering some rebates. The dealers aren't coming down much off the MSRP yet.
Love the truck but not a fan of the engine GM should have used the 4L v6 a much more reliable engine than the 3.6L but if you do get the 3.6l use synthetic oil that performs better in heat and change the oil every 3,000 not 5,000 to save the timing chains from stretching a very common issue with these engines
The thing is you can pick up a similarly equipped Frontier for less than $30,000 out the door. Nissan is dropping the "actual" sale point price on those quite a lot. Chevy having the newer truck they are less inclined to drop the price much lower than MSRP. Heck, my local dealership has these up as high as $40,000. I just can't justify that much extra money spent when the comparable Nissan will easily cost you anywhere from three to six thousand dollars less. At least for mr, in my area of the country, the Colorado doesnt seem like a good buy price per performance given the competition.
Agumon5 American cars are a better option in America. They have the support networks and driver communities that make sense. If you lived in Europe then a Nissan would make sense as they are reasonably priced and reliable. There are very few options in Europe. A good off road SUV would cost about 50k and gas/fuel would cost about 3 times more. Insurance is insane in Europe as is tax. Most people in Europe go for 2 liter Toyota Hilux and 2 liter Nissan Navara's and that is the only cheap options that come in at 30k plus.
Agumon5 No offense, but the Frontier is nowhere near as nice as a Colorado. They're not even in the same league. I've driven both and can tell you that the Frontier is definitely a step back. The difference is night and day. I think Nissan knows that and they're frantically pushing a newer redesign out asap.
im the same way dude, i think im gonna snag a diesel, the shops here in so cal are excited to do some tuning on a small diesel. And im moving back to hawaii, i think the diesel would be a blast in the mud and really reliable.
I own a 2015 colorado z71, and i have a question, he says this is the z71 4x4 and it has the sticker just like mine is he wrong? i want to make sure that with my Z71 ill be able to do what he did mine is NOT a 4x4 Z71
+Gabby Romero z71 on the colorado is more of an appearance package than an offroad package now. it gets few extra goodies, tuned twin tubed shocks, g80 auto locking rear dif, more offroady tires, a transfer case skid plate for the 4x4 models, and hill decent control. Yours would not do what this one did
+Andrew C oh ok make since, ya I have used it to pull 2 jet skis, a horse trailer with 2 in it, and a razor it has pulled a bit but I guess it's normal? Thank you for your response
Gabby Romero 2wd vs 4wd wont affect towing unless youre trying it in some shitty conditions, all mine has towed is my boat, atv's, snowmobiles and some wood. 4wd on the boat launch in november was nice though
Gabby Romero i think its like 200 pounds or somthing? my max tow is 7000 pounds personally i wouldnt want to put anything more than 5000 behind it. I dont have a brake controller and while the truck would move well over 7000 im sure, i dont think i could get it stopped, which in my opinion is more important. You also get better mileage which is a plus :)
This is a nice looking truck but new Tacoma sales this year have still outnumbered new Colorado/Canyon sales 2 to 1, and this is with the "outdated" Tacoma design vs. the new gen Colorado/Canyon. I guess reputation and brand loyalty goes a long way in swaying (or not swaying) potential buyers. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a more prominent turning of the tables yet. I've only seen a handful of these things driving around and I live in an area where midsize trucks are very popular. We'll see if the trend changes or continues, but with the new 2016 Tacoma coming out in the fall it's not looking good for Colorado/Canyon sales. If the sales ratio is 2 to 1 now, it's likely only to get worse once the new Tacoma is released. Looks like Toyota's strategy of waiting until after the release of the new Colorado/Canyon to unveil the new Tacoma is not as much of a blunder as most people thought it was 6 months ago. Appears (for now anyway) that Toyota continues to have the upper hand.
cashmab That's because Tacos are available. Colorado's are still commanding MSRP, very few discounts are offered for them because their average time spent on dealer lots is only 12 days. Since so many people want them, GM is having a hard time even making enough. That means fewer rebates and incentives, and that means it's easier for someone to go next door and grab a Taco with 5 grand slashed off MSRP. Even though the Taco is the lesser vehicle.
+Auxillian Warghost exactly what the dealer said to me yesterday. it was memorial day weekend sales and I bought the z71 4 door for about $38,000 550 a month. but when I was getting the truck they had sent it back for a shuttering problem, it was fixed. also great car I test drove the Tacoma TRD and it's so rugged I can't see my self driving every day. The steering was not responsive and the inside was outdated. The chevy by far was a way better ride smooth like a cadillac. And guys this car is very tough looking got alot of looks driving home with over chevy owners giving me the peace sighn haha reminds me of Jeep owners. one thing I dislike is when you driving at 60 on the freeway it takes forever to accelerate to around 75 80. But it makes up for it because of the pull it has from first to second gears. and you have to pay for a security system wtf.
I didn't have to pay for a security system, it's built into the truck. Unless it's something that they installed extra. That laggy pull above 60 is fixed by a chip tune. It really wakes the truck up because GM neutered the shifting behavior in this model. A tune fixes that and gives better gas mileage. The recall you had sounds like a replacement of the module for the Active Shutter system that sits behind the grill and closes at higher speeds to improve fuel economy. Mine was working fine but they still replaced it. Congrats on your truck, you made the right decision.
Yea, the Tacoma is pretty much made to compete with the Wrangler. I think the only reason the Colorado hasn't caught up in sales is the truck purist are still set on a big ass truck with a big ass V8. But on the other hand it at least came in second place and motivated Ford to bring the Ranger back to the States.
Next time, try using at least some more off road oriented all-terrains if you aren't going to use mud terrain for off roading. I would never take those shitty tires off road lol. Wranglers are good, but check out the Wrangler Duratracs, one of the most aggressive treads I have found on an all-terrain tire.
It seems like a nice truck and all, but it s too big in my opinion. I would just get a Sierra instead. They need a Ranger sized small truck that s simple, robust, reliable, and small.
You want me to pay $37k for that? Looks nice, but more like $27k nice... I do agree with everyone else on the chin spoiler. Cool to see Andrey in the driver's seat.
Lol my buddy has the Z71 Silverado and drives a total of 10 miles to and from work. Spends $100 a week in gas. Even with that 8 to 4 cyl BS. No thanks lol
you should do the base 4x4 Colorado as a comparison. z71 offroad trim is nice but pricy. would be cool to see how the barebones extended cab 4x4 with no other options would stack up. that's what ill be buying up here in Canada where I live, if you get the base 4x4 extended cab you get a 4cylinder 4x4 for 30k if you get no options which I prefer, improves the longevity of the vehicle with a lot less to go wrong and break over time. besides most of the time its cheaper to buy aftermarket accessories than the fancy trim packages because that's where most auto ccompanies make a killing is all the options which you could have got somewhere else.
This truck is too expensive and suffers from quality issues (according to Chevy Colorado forums). Residual value is going to plummet. Also, the fact that chin spoiler is so difficult to remove points to lack of engineering easy of use planning. People take their trucks off road and removing the chin spoiler (and putting it back on) should be simple. I don't see Chevy endangering Tacoma's leadership (or resale value) in the segment, but competition is certainly welcome. It will be interesting to see if Nissan redesigns Frontier (and puts Cummings diesel in). But again, for $36k I'd go for full size truck, likely Tundra SR5 (though I do understand not everyone wants or needs full size truck of course). Andre is doing better. I don't think he should try to emulate american accent. He should keep his Russian accent and make it his trademark. Also, hearing Russian speak american popular pop-culture terms such as "awesome" or "wow" sounds a bit unnatural. Use your Russian accent and say "VERY GOOD" instead or come up with something unique. Don't blend in. Shine away Andre! Good job again.
The stock truck is garbage the way they have it tuned from the factory. I have the Trifecta and it made it so much better there is no way I can go back now. If they had it come like that, or even half as good as the improved tune, the reviews woulds be so much better! Makes it feel like a V8 no lie and improves shifts!
Why no manual and AWD? Why does it cost so much when for near the same price you could get a full size 4x4 manual RAM? Why do you GM ruin the 2.5 ecotec? Why? Why? Why?
I'm sorry but that guy didn't look comfortable at all in the back seat his knees were pushing pretty far into the driver seat somebody is getting a good commission from promoting this truck
Is it just me or has Andre become a much better speaker than he was a few years ago. Good job man.
I like that Andre is finally doing reviews, and it was a really good review too.
M4st3r And I like your comment. :)
Andrey Smirnov What an inspiring story!
Some of your best work yet, Andre and whoever operated the camera. Definitely stepping it up lately!
Thanks for the super refreshing review. Love seeing Andre do some of the videos in the drivers seat!
Nice to see Andre in the drivers seat :D nice review Andre
J. Cole Agreed he's getting better at it. Keep practicing Andre!
Mega Pijon Agreed, he does good reviews.
J. Cole Thank you for the support!
I agree with j. Cole.
My thoughts as well. Great job Andre.
Great job Andre! your definitely getting to be one of my favorite people to watch do a truck review. I think you nailed this one.
Great review Andre!! It's been a long time coming but I'm glad your getting a chance to review. Keep up with the good work.
I cannot wait until TFL can test the Colorado 2.8L Turbodiesel.
I had a lot of fun watching Andrew. He is more engaging and less chatty than the rotund one and the man with the hair. More Andre
Andre, you are the living embodiment of the American Dream.
I want GM to start making the new ZR2 version they teased us with. That is a real off roader.
That would be a wish come true! I have a 2003 zr5 which is different than the zr2 but i love these small trucks!
How often are you off road where that chin spoiler will be hitting rocks ? Colorado's and Canyons are trucks for the weekend warriors and they are perfect for that. I like to see a integrated adjustable tie down system for the bed.

Nice to see Andre doing a review. I agree it does sound bad. I wish they'd bring back a standard for the 4X4 v6 and not just for the 2wd I4.
2017 Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon is definitely in my future.

Oh okay thanks for replying 🐙
pgalbally Yes, we looked at what it would take to remove the spoiler and it is not easy.
The Fast Lane Truck I had to cut each clip so I could spin them off with out damage to the bumper cover or the chin spoiler
You guys should do a mpg test with and with out the chin spoiler
the new colorado is growing on me i really like it i have a 2005. and im more than sure i will replace my 1 ton 88 silverado with one of these new ones with a 2.8 duramax
I can't wait for the diesel to finally arrive, this 3.6 sounds disgustingly raspy.
Right. That is what I am waiting for before even looking at one. The 24 highway is good but it isn't all that impressive
lifeisgood12341 MPG + Dual Zone Auto Climate are what need updating ASAP.
TJ HAMMERSLAND sounds as ugly as a taco with a magnaflow taco.
TJ HAMMERSLAND v6's don't sound good
makes 305hp though
PC Master Race v6's sound amazing. just the rev limiter and exhaust making it sound nasty
I have a 15' Colorado lt 2wd and I got stuck in Running Springs close to Big Bear In Sothern California in an icy pavement road up hill. Couldnt make it to my cabin. I'm not seeking to trade it for a z71.
Great review Andre! You really drove the heck out of it! I knew it would handle just about anything you threw at it!

It's their "light" off-road package... if you're going to be doing stuff where you might hit the chin spoiler, you need the ZR2!!!

if you read the directions it says to remove chin spoiler for off roading ..comes off quickly ...looks and works better without it .
looking forward to seeing how the new tacoma will stack up when it comes out
Andre, you're awesome!
wonder how well it will hold up over time
Are the tow hooks strong enough for RECOVERY if I'm stuck in the mud and the other truck is using a knetic rope?
good job andrea

Is it the choise of those who does not have enough money for buying Silverado? Or it really has some interesting features?
BAU Most interesting feature: Its smaller.
BAU For people who dont need or want a Silverado, like myself. The Colorado is amazing
BAU Full-sized trucks are ridiculously large and expensive. The Colorado is about $7000 cheaper for the same trim level and options. It's a little smaller, but not a "small truck" at all. nice work Andre.
I would like to see if y'all can put the 4x4 to the test like y'all did with the all wheel drive Subaru on the rollers.
The down side to the splitter or what ever under the bumper is less clearance. I guess it's for driving on road.
You can remove it.

Отличный обзор Андрей! Приятно видеть тебя первым лицом. Машина кстати хорошая получилась у Шевиков
I'l wait for the review when these get the mini Duramax.
Roman, delegate and let him give the full review. No need for your 2 cents. This is a positive comment by the way.
jack in Vancouver He probably wouldn't have said anything if removing that stupid chin spoiler was mentioned in the original review. I think the spoiler is so ugly it should be recommended that people take it off in every review made. lol
You guys forgot to remove the front splitter.l
PC Master Race We looked into removing it, but it was not easy to do.
The Fast Lane Truck Chevy said it comes off in 10 minutes,
How is that too hard?
Google Minus I own a 05 colorado.
I know alot about these trucks.
Google Minus Alot.
I was considering buying one.
decided against it though.
Google Minus no a 2005.
I test drove a 2015 though
I asked abut the front splitter and they told me i was easily removed.
You are way better than Roman you should review more trucks
i'd take this over my 04 f150 matter fact i will
There is no styling risk it is the Isuzu D max with a GM engine
they should of went with the Isuzu twin turbo engine though

Most people in Europe go for 2 liter Toyota Hilux and 2 liter Nissan Navara's and that is the only cheap options that come in at 30k plus.
They lowered the price to 32,000 where I live, still too much money
Agumon5 No offense, but the Frontier is nowhere near as nice as a Colorado. They're not even in the same league. I've driven both and can tell you that the Frontier is definitely a step back. The difference is night and day. I think Nissan knows that and they're frantically pushing a newer redesign out asap.
It's helping me a lot it's helping me a lot LOL
lol
I wanna see the new diesel Colorado go up gold mine hill for a comparison. I'm torn between the gas or spending the money on the diesel
im the same way dude, i think im gonna snag a diesel, the shops here in so cal are excited to do some tuning on a small diesel. And im moving back to hawaii, i think the diesel would be a blast in the mud and really reliable.
+Kevin Navarro oh yea, here in Alabama you need that low end torque of a diesel to get threw trails in the mountains
exactly, diesel just sounds perfect and that engine has been around forever, so it should last.
+Kevin Navarro hell yea just screams power. I'll prob leave mine stock all I want is an exhaust so you get that diesel clatter
ya thats what i was thinking too, and a sick nfab or fab fours front bumper and winch, descent lift and some tires = happy man haha
Pretty boy maul crawler. I'll take the new Tacoma any day....
+Andrew C and I was told towing would be less if 4x4, now I do regret not buying the 4x4
But on the other hand it at least came in second place and motivated Ford to bring the Ranger back to the States.
you should do the mpg test with this truck
My 93 SE pathfinder would walk all over this Colorado only off road.lol
It gets 14mpg and it is sluggish but kicks ass off road.
beautiful truck, great review :)
Next time, try using at least some more off road oriented all-terrains if you aren't going to use mud terrain for off roading. I would never take those shitty tires off road lol. Wranglers are good, but check out the Wrangler Duratracs, one of the most aggressive treads I have found on an all-terrain tire.
What trail was this?
It seems like a nice truck and all, but it s too big in my opinion. I would just get a Sierra instead. They need a Ranger sized small truck that s simple, robust, reliable, and small.
The Ranger sold of shores is about the same size
i was talking about the previous Ranger they sold in North America
icemanroyal the colorado is selling SUPER well
so many people don't care.
The Toyota Tacoma is the best selling small to midsize pickup so many people must still care.
icemanroyal you have no idea of the dimensions of these trucks right? The Sierra is the exact same size as the Colorado...
How come on the Chevy website it says 30mpg highway?
duramax i4 is 30, the gas v6 is what he drove.
Gosh I miss sitting in the bed of my pick-up!
Is the auto a CVT?
+electrotech12 no way fuck CVT's
I was looking for more of a component review not a drive in the snow contest.
This guy must have been a camera man and is doing a fill in.
NoOneImportant556 Bet he has a lead foot
you should do the base 4x4 Colorado as a comparison. z71 offroad trim is nice but pricy. would be cool to see how the barebones extended cab 4x4 with no other options would stack up. that's what ill be buying up here in Canada where I live, if you get the base 4x4 extended cab you get a 4cylinder 4x4 for 30k if you get no options which I prefer, improves the longevity of the vehicle with a lot less to go wrong and break over time. besides most of the time its cheaper to buy aftermarket accessories than the fancy trim packages because that's where most auto ccompanies make a killing is all the options which you could have got somewhere else.
Out standing review! Thank you
Im a ford man, but this is a pretty nice truck. And an option as ford really has no competitor of its own in the class. But it does sound like crap.
Ford Ranger :..(
gargilbert Unfortunately not in North America
Just get a full sized or a toyota taco they dominate the mid size segment anyway
u can always tune it
gargilbert Toyota doesn't dominate in anything that has to do with trucks
You should take that front splitter off
When's the gauntlet test?
The stock truck is garbage the way they have it tuned from the factory. I have the Trifecta and it made it so much better there is no way I can go back now. If they had it come like that, or even half as good as the improved tune, the reviews woulds be so much better! Makes it feel like a V8 no lie and improves shifts!
You guys should test the 2015 ford ranger wildtrek :-)
can u review the diesel model
good review... amazing country....
Why no manual and AWD? Why does it cost so much when for near the same price you could get a full size 4x4 manual RAM? Why do you GM ruin the 2.5 ecotec? Why? Why? Why?
You can get four wheel drive
Also this is a fully loaded truck
Jared Fletcher Manual and AWD not auto and AWD. Fully loaded this or RT 4x4 RAM?
This also has lots of features
Depends on what u want
please test the ridgeline
test it how? it cant go offroad
I'm sorry but that guy didn't look comfortable at all in the back seat his knees were pushing pretty far into the driver seat somebody is getting a good commission from promoting this truck
reminds me of the late s10s
Nice job GM
exhaust sounds like an impala, oh wait...
Man I should have typed first before watching the video.
Horacio Lopez You were the first, Horacio, so congratulations ‼️😀👯🍻🎉
can u take that chin spoiler off?
