This is not brain surgery. You go from parallel skiing to carved turns by thinking about this. You are standing between two Barstools waiting for your drink. You are facing the bar (Bottom of the hill) and have your hands on the rail. (Hands forward) You are getting tired of waiting so you decide to rest on the stools. You take your weight off your Right foot, lift your Right cheek and set oi on the edge of the Right Barstool. That cheek is getting tired so you step down on your Right foot as you take your weight off the Left foot, lift your Left cheek and set it on the edge of the Left barstool. You have just done my "Barstool Christie" or Carved turn. Notice the steep angle your leg is at when you do this. You are now balanced on that arch. When you Lift your cheek, look how that gets your upper body in the vertical position it needs to be in to balance on either ski. Now, the ski will turn on it's own because you did what you were supposed to do. You can also look at it this way. When your skis start to turn, don't let your upper body go to the side with your skis. When you step on the uphill ski to start the turn, your skis will still be going across the hill. Don't let your upper body go with them. Keep your body in the fall line. Think of a bungy cord attached you your parka and the bottom of the hill. It is constantly pulling you to the bottom when your skis go across the hill. Your skis are going to the right, your upper body is going to the left back into the fall line. As your skis come around to the left, you change your weight and get your upper body back to the right and into the fall line.
I agree. Both my parents worked at breckenridge in the 70s and hadnt skied on anything but straights untill 04 when i first went skiing.(yea kinda sad parents worked at a ski area i didnt go untill i was 15) they taught me the basics the first day and i was doin fine the second. But they could still smoke me... that form stayed with them and they can absolutley fly on parabolics. In conclusion a beginner can carve but still cant catch someone with form.
@Mariogroup So your instructor never mentioned "the pole plant". They teach children with no poles so as not to confuse them, once you are at a certain level you should be able to multi task. Why don't you post a video of your technique for all to see?
Hello! Thanks for this useful video. By the way, I hear many people keep on talking about Avalorexon Training Program (do a search on google), but I'm not sure if it's good. Have you tried this ski training called Avalorexon Training Program? I've heard several awesome things about it.
@Mariogroup I said at a very basic level they teach you with no poles but once you advance the poles become part of the turn. Clearly, you are at a basic level with your skiing and reading or at least your comprehension of the english language.
Ha! I used to race in the late '60's and early '70's with skis (Rossignal Strato's and Dynamic VR-17's) that required excellent technique to carve. These skis were rockets once you knew how to carve. Now any moron can carve with crappy technique.
first of all your name is arrogant. secondly, look at the last couple minutes at the high speed, his distance of skiis are fine. Not to mention this is probably for people coming off of straight oldie woods. .....

Loving that tight soundtrack....what cut was that?
excellent video, very helpful-----the backgroud tune is very nice too, just wondering if anyone knows the name of it
Great video I learned a lot
I wish i could ski as good as you guys, but one day i will !!
@BarkingDragon Thats sounds awesome but how can you ski on a brick? The surface area is pretty minimum...
@Mariogroup The poles are in integral part of the turn, I doubt it was a qualified instructor that taught you.

ok, where are the 8 snowboarders who disliked this ?
Their legs are to close together and their knees are not moving inside.
And this ski is not the right one to show how to carv...
transworld sport guy?
