this was awesome! I tried two other mirror tutorials and failed. This was the first time I succeeded. It was the turn the reflection probe's X arrrow away from mirror's shiny surface that did the trick. thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video. I was messing around all day yesterday with this. I had managed to get the reflection but I was warped. I would've never thought about changing the axis.
Hi, can you please tell me how do i get the PBR/Blinn-Phong/Media options in Texture tab of the edit menu. I am using the latest SL viewer and FS viewer and changed the settings by activating mirror and 'Select Reflection probes' I still dont see these options in the edit menu.
I would like to mention to make the mirror probe larger (wider and taller) than the reflective surface, maybe about a quarter length of the probe on all edges. Otherwise you will have "stretch" distortion along the edges.
once you've finished with the mirror and probe. do you link the reflection probe to the mirror if needing to pack it up in an unpacker for someone? because i had a backdrop the other day that wasn't linked properly and because things wasn;t linked and it was like broken object. everything got messed up and got broken. If i don't link probe to mirror object the reflection messes up if you go to move the mirror or if you pick it up. you lose the reflection aswell.
i hope when its finished for firestorm its not that grafic memor sucking like it is on the standard second life viewer :/ would be sad cause then most of the users cant use it
the sl did well and did these amazing upgrades but the users are not ready for this....cause they still use crap computers to play sl.....all depends about each user's computer performance....same thing happens 10 years ago when the windlight happens in sl....maybe 10 years later then every computer have better performance so everyone able to use mirrors
might wanna specify that this is the BETA viewer for people like me who went to look for this option and couldn't find it in the current release version
The new version is VERY VERY HEAVY EVEN FOR MY GRAPHICS CARD, Please make it less graphic or add ONLY THE EMOJIS to the previous version. or launch an installer for the emojis in the previous version please, or the option of being able to deactivate all those options that many people do not need or want, and only want the EMOJIS, I would really appreciate it if you read me and took my request, thank you.
yeah, I own/run an entertainment center with a bowling alley and skating rink etc. I thought it would be cool to make the whole back wall of the skating rink into a mirror so people could see themselves skating and it destroyed my framerate
My mirrors never seem to work like the tutorials. x.x There's always weird angle issues and magnification. I walk up close to a mirror, like shown here, and I take up the whole thing. Not sure what I've done wrong - followed all the same steps. My reflections are also very choppy, unless I set them to realtime, even though yours is set to Sat&Dyn, you seem to get the realtime updates. I've also got mine set to every frame, so I should be getting the same result.
I had that problem of "telescoping" where the reflection would look stretched very far away or super-close and filling the whole mirror. I just selected the mirror probe prim and moved it back and forth(closer and farther) in front of the shiny surface until it looked right. If you get the center of the mirror probe as close as you possibly can to the shiny surface without passing through it, it should look good.
Change the mirror texture resolution from 512 to 2048 and it will be much clearer I think, I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but it was mentioned in one of the lab gab videos a while back that one of the main reasons they added 2048 textures was to make mirror surfaces less blurry.
The only problem being is that when a lot of people upgrade to the new viewer to be able to do this it will eat their graphic cards alive. I have a powerful PC but even my graphics card fans threw a wobbler.
The BEST video on making a mirror. I'm sharing it to everyone! tysm

Thanks very much for this straightforward tutorial, very well put together.
The long awaited Mirror Effect!!!!!! thank you!

WOW. Has this always been possible in SL?
It's a game changer!
Perfect! I loved it!

holy shit! i did it!! i am never able to build anything but i was able to do this! o m g! thank you! your tut was amazing!!

FANTASTICO🤩🤩🥰
Didn't work for me. I set all the settings like in the video, but no reflection of my avatar in the mirror.
Same here. I have objects reflected but not the av. Maybe we're vampires?
Never mind. I checked the "Dynamic" box in Features (I am using Alchemy) and it worked!

@@remo687Ended up learning that there is an actual mirror option, rather than what shown here, that allows it to behave properly. o3o
@@remo687 i've been experiencing the mirror effect being quite glitchy and choppy especially when camming to look at the mirror from the sides.
the ao walking some times doesn't work its been a thing for me like 3 updates ago when pbr was included
how to make mine look more smooth and not so choppy. i followed this and its so choppy do i need a specific texture?

@@tawa7546 i've tried that, it changed for a second or two, it adapts itself in settings to 512 again, odd ? We're learning still 'phew' ...

I try to make a mirror, when I edit it, I can see the mirror, but when I stop editing, the mirror become blank.
thaaaaaaaaaaanks 🥰
My firestorm doesn't have these options, what version?
7.1.9+, the beta viewer.

@@PanteraPolnocy Where can I find that??? Im looking everywhere for the download lol
Thanks! This really helped, and I actually understood it. And gosh darn it, you're just so cute and smexy.
merci quand est ce ce que ca va venir sur firestorm
Bientôt.
Now i can't choose this box in edit and cant delete it. how to choose it?
Go back into your build tab >Options>Select reflection probes. This will allow you to edit and delete them again.
The sims did this in 2004
holy smokes, Second Life is still a thing wow
Technically it remains alive until the servers are shut down. It has been very empty for the past 10 years.
@@alexmm01 Can't acknowledge this. There are quite a few sims full to the brim regularly.
@@alexmm01 with millions of lindens cashed out almost daily, tens of thousands logged in every day, I think your information is a bit incorrect there.
@@alexmm01 that's nonsense.
no sound? Thumbs down
