Came across this randomly but found it really thoughtful and interesting.
I watched this video and immediately broke down and cried because in my 10 years of practising as a social worker, i have experienced all forms of racism and discrimination even though i do not see colour and see people as humans beings. It's has made me question Social Values etc and i feel as if it only applies on paper but not in actual practice. I used to enjoy my work, but my morale has deflated to the extent that i feel like quitting due to embedded discriminatory practices.
I am a Nigerian and soon to start my ASYE. I can relate with every word you said. I remember in my last placement when I was in service users' homes. There were a lot going through my head each time, aside the work I came to do. Mostly, it was about what they thought about me due to the colour of my skin.

I no longer take abuse or racism from families. Now you can prosecute families. One of my colleagues did it and the family member is serving a prison sentence.

Wow, this is deep! Speaking as a black African social worker from a southern African country, I think there is a massive difference in the way that we are willing to challenge and confront racism. My Caribbean colleagues are comfortable to tackle the bull by the horns most of the time. I wonder if this comes from having been in countries where we have celebrated white privilege so much that we have developed such a thick skin and we tolerate it almost too much???

I'm sorry for the challenges you had to face brother, my sister worked for the police/ probation service, even a lawyer now and tells she use to come home upset on days where the racist side of the workforce in the UK is slid and brushes under the carpet and not told publically while under oaths containig the truth that should be spoken out...and it is an unfair slave like way to control people, nations and generations.
