Awesome video. Thank you very much Martin. We are anchored out in Georgian Bay and woke up to make my coffe and charge the house batteries. My Honda 2000i had the dreaded no AC,ughhh. I went through your testing procedure and never guess what I found. Yep, my white AC output wire has broken right at the connector. Exact same issue. Jammed the wire back in the connector and put a little dab of JB weld to hold it in place. Just a quick fix to get power, will replace the connector when back home. Thanks again Martin, you're a life safer.
Nice stuff and good advice in your notes. You are one out of 100 guys who post videos that know how to use a meter and how to troubleshoot. Lots of bad advice on UA-cam. You it it on the head about how these generators function. Get the engine running right, check your motor speed and your wiring. That will solve 95% of the problems. I wonder how many inverters are replaced needlessly. Thanks for a great video. Also, if you do lots of this work, sets of connector pins and alligator clips are made for meters to fit different size jacks.
Thank you for a great video, sorry for the long post. I have an unusual issue with my eu2000i. The generator starts fine but I get no power to the outlets and the green led doesn’t light. When I was testing your troubleshooting options by checking the voltage of the 5 wire connector I was only getting 190v a/c, not 225v though I was getting 10v from the pink/gray. The weird thing is, when I plugged the 5 wire connector back together while the engine was running, the green led went on and the outlets then had 126 volts and it worked perfectly to power my tools. After I shut off the generator and restarted it the green led was out again and I had no power until I disconnected the 5 wire connector and replugged it back together which worked again to turn on the green led and have power to the outlets again. This work-around only works if the eco switch is on. If the eco switch is off, and I unplug and replug the 5 wire connector while the motor runs, I get no green led light one no power at the outlets. Is it possibly a capacitor issue? When eco mode is on, and I unplug and replug the connector, the motor slows for a couple of seconds and then regains its speed. Also, after I unplug and replug the connector in eco mode and have power, I am able to switch between eco mode and no eco mode and the outlets don’t lose power and the meter show a consistent 126v. I converted my eu2000i companion to propane when I purchased it 15 years ago and It’s worked perfectly up until a few weeks ago.
Thanks for all the detail. I’m having a similar problem with a ryobi 2200. Your video was the only one I could find that went into detail about anything.
Hey Martin, I just changed my spark plug, carbeurater (old one had a broken choke lever), and air filters. When i put it back together, it will only idle at a very low RPM. No power from AC outlets. Any advice what I should check for? From looking, this is not a very common problem.
Sounds like the linkage to the idle control solenoid is not hooked up right. or the control solenoid is not getting signal to raise the idle. Try disconnecting the linkage to the throttle and manually increase that throttle and see if you get power. If you get power, focus on the idle control solenoid. They do go bad.
Hi Martin. Thnx for educating community, it is weary hard to find any DIY info on these generators. I’m having issue where there are no lights at all , generator is running rough and only has 16v DC output where 12v should be . Also checked the AC output from white , blue and red whirring and it does produce 220-260v depending from RPM’s , do you have any advice how to proceed from here ?
I bought the 2200 but i should’ve got the companion because of the 30amp plug for my rv. Is there a kit to change out the plate containing both plugs? A plug and play kit that contains a 30 amp plug? Essentially turning my 2200 into a companion?
I have a question I recently bought a used home eu2000i and I cleaned out the fuel tank and the carburetor and the internals…. Sounds like it could be several things related to a heavy load. Possible that the carb is not getting enough fuel delivered to it. Check flow from the hose going into the carb. It might also be a ignition coil breaking down under load. Hard to diagnose this issue. I would try everything else and then replace the coil. Good luck,

Does the generator run but no electricity or is it a no start condition? No start, I would say check for spark. If you have a good spark at the spark plug, try squirting flammable brake clean or carb clean in the carb and try to start it. if it start for a moment and dies, you might have a bad fuel pump or blocked line. check for kinks in the fuel hose. If both generator/inverters are the exact same, then yes you have a problem. They do make a eu2200i that has more power which can easily be mistaken as a eu2000i. If they are the same, try turning off the ECO Throttle and see if it makes a difference. Follow the test procedure within the video to make sure you don't have bad stator stator. The Idle Control Motor adjust the speed of the engine based on demand. If the Idle Control Motor is not functioning, the engine will not speed up when needed. Great job bro. I'm working on one now. The motor is running rough at idle. And I got to clean that jet under the idle screw. But the green light was on till I got it to crank
If the motor is running to slow, nothing will light. You might need to look at the idle control circuit wiring or idle control motor. Try manually increasing the speed of the motor to see if the green light turns on. If it does, than you might have a bad Idle Control Solenoid or wiring to it.

Thanks so much for the great tutorial on how to test for voltage... and your wife is right that you're a nut -- you should never run a generator indoor!!!!
Corrections: Not all AC generators need to operate at a single rpm. Only an ac generator that generates residential power needs to do that because household current is a single frequency (60hz in the USA). An inverter does not generate power by itself. It only turns DC to AC. An inverter generator has a DC generator in it that is connected to an inverter.
If you had the manual , you would know that , that machine has blue tooth . It will tell you something’s . But if you have to further to diagnose the problem , then this series of vids just might be what you need . This generator costs $1166 . Oo from a dealer , and Honda generators are damned neer bullet proof . Don’t throw it away if you don’t have to . The Japanese did us a huge favor as their technology to build things has greatly improved over the past 4 decades . My hats off to them .
Make sure you carefully inspect the wires. Use an ohm meter to check each wire from each connector. My friend works on hundreds of these generators. Never had a bad inverter. But mostly found bad connection or broken wires.
@@MartinMetregerTipsandTricks The inverters are bullet-proof. I had one that was in salt water for days and it was still fine. Check those wires and connectors!

Glad you enjoyed it
hola tengo un generador igual al de tu video, es 120v. yo vivo en la argentina y la corriente es 220v. tengo alguna forma de convertirlo para 220v
That is a good question. I don't know enough about your electrical voltage to provide safe input. I'm sorry.
@@MartinMetregerTipsandTricks hola no entiendo tu idioma, me podes responder en español
@@juancosta2647 Esa es una buena pregunta. No sé lo suficiente sobre su voltaje eléctrico para proporcionar una entrada segura. Lo siento.
How much would it cost to. Replace the inverter?
When I checked, it was over $400.
@@MartinMetregerTipsandTricks ok thanks. Mine is toast. Just ordered. The Westinghouse. 2200 super. For just about the same amount. Little more. They had. Good reviews. But it’s not a Honda. But it will be new thanks your your comment
If mine needed and inverter, I would do what you do. Change the oil to Synthetic . It will protect your engine in high heat or long running conditions. www.amsoil.com/p/10w-30-synthetic-small-engine-oil-ase/?code=ASEQT-EA&gclid=Cj0KCQiA3smABhCjARIsAKtrg6LbJmsL68tO6hEFB5MxEIrUu6_JYbUGDeBy0YpXDln7fJDvJewN25oaAp6EEALw_wcB
@@MartinMetregerTipsandTricks ok thanks. What do you think about the Westinghouse 2200 sport ?
Very informative video. Thank you
So nice of you
How come there's no ignition?
Sorry, This video doesn't go over the ignition.
Thanks a lot! With your vidéo i save 1000$ !!
That's awesome to hear. Thanks for the comment.
Same exact thing with mine tha
.thank you, problem solved
Glad to hear. Thanks
Wow there is obviously no throttle servo control and the engine is in overspeed condition. It would be usefull to note voltages at idle to max.
Great video man thanks 👊
No problem 👍
Good thing you didn't need an inverter. That box runs between $400 and $500 dollars.
Question: Where did you get the manual from?
I searched on google and found it. Unfortunately, it has since been removed. I just searched again and found this halcyontimes.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/eu2000i-repair-manual.pdf
Thanks so much for the great tutorial on how to test for voltage... and your wife is right that you're a nut -- you should never run a generator indoor!!!!
Glad to help
Corrections: Not all AC generators need to operate at a single rpm. Only an ac generator that generates residential power needs to do that because household current is a single frequency (60hz in the USA). An inverter does not generate power by itself. It only turns DC to AC. An inverter generator has a DC generator in it that is connected to an inverter.
isn't that what I implied?
@@MartinMetregerTipsandTricksI thought you did...
Thank you
If you had the manual , you would know that , that machine has blue tooth .
Thanks man 👍
Any time!

Great.. i have the same problem but i think is the inverter ☹
@@eegg6954 you're right. Check the wiring.

Hi
Do you recall a part number for that wire? After an hour of troubleshooting your video took me right to the problem.
No part number available. I had to find one used at a repair shop. They just gave it to me.

I found one at a mower shop that took it off parts inverter. You have to check around or fix the one you have.
