Hua Hua is my favorite Chinese artist. This is his cover of a very popular song and is a totally different arrangement from the original. Hua Chen Yu came in second in Singer 2018 and first in 2020. He is an amazing composer as well. You should watch all of his performances especially Fake Monk.
This was a performance on the show the Singer, for established singers. Yes Jessie J and Hua Chenyu were both contestants. She won that year, he came second but won a couple of years later. Genuinely, this is not in my personal Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances. He's a singer, composer, music arranger, multi instrumentalist. Chameleon-like he's like a mix of David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Steven Tyler, Thom Yorke, Matt Bellamy, Prince, Marc Bolan. He listened to Linkin Park, Muse, Radiohead growing up. He's really a Rocker at heart. But does, Rock, Rap, Reggae 😂, Ballads, Broadway, Peking Opera, Pop, SynthPop and on and on. For me, he is the greatest performer on the Planet. Another not in my Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances, but a good indicator of his blending of styles is "Nunchucks". Lovely Reaction. 👍

"Hua Hua" is a music genius. The lyrics are very important to him, so he chooses to cover songs which speak to him, or has his own lyricist do rewrites until he is happy with the words to accompany his own compisitions. He also plays about with his own music so you rarely see it performed exactly the same. He does Rock/Metal, Rap, Pop, SynthPop, Ballads, Broadway, Reggae, Peking Opera and just keeps blending genres. He is a free thinker, who sees no boundaries to where music can go. As a wee sampler, you may like his fun and quirky version of "Nunchucks". He can make you laugh, make you cry or make you think. And, he is constantly refining his vocal techniques. He has a 1970s Rock voice and yet can produce a Frank Sinatra style if that's what he "feels". His look changes like a chameleon too. When he did "Child" (a similar slow style) only a few weeks before this performance, he looked like a young teenager, although he was 28 at the time. 😮🤣

Personally I would suggest starting at his first performance on the competition (week 4) - Qi Tian and working forward as there is a progression and theme. For us the best place to get vid is the Hua Chenyu English Subs channel. They do excellent work and should be supported. Glad to read that you have Charlie Zhou Shen on your list as he is simply brilliant - I’d suggest Ring the Doorbell which is stunning and bond movie sequences in my opinion. Yes Jessie J was a contestant at Singer 2018. She won this season. HuaHua got the second place at Singer 2018 and won Singer 2020. Please react to his songs I don't care, Jackdaw Boy, Ashes from fireworks, New World...... and so much more. His Mars concert performances are safer to react to. 👍🌟🌟🌟Love Hua Chenyu❤️❤️. This is one of his most mellow songs. You're in for an amazing ride with this singer. To me, Hua Chenyu sounds like Dimash' little brother. Very different style but inceedibly gifted, always a deep, meaningful message and combines different genres that you wouldn't dare combine so seamlessly and effortlessly. Hua Chenyu has overcame a very difficult childhood and music literally saved him from a place of hopelessness and dispair. His lyrics and delivery reflect those very lonely and painful experiences.

Hi, Big Nick. I'm a new subscriber for Hua Chenyu. He's a rock singer/composer at heart, but does all genres. I think you'll like his rock songs, like Jackdaw Boy and I Don't Care, and many of his other songs add rock elements when they build up, like you heard in Ordinary Path. Some comments are asking for dark songs that make people cry or be shocked and stop reacting to him. Please stay with him and you'll get to the cool songs he's know for, the ones you'll enjoy.
A tip for understanding his performances: look at his face. The music, the vocals, his movements are all important, but the key to the story is in his eyes. Parts of Ordinary Path sound peaceful, but his face doesn't look peaceful, especially in the second half. Look at his expression at the end of the song. Not peaceful. How do you interpret that expression? Does it change how you interpret the song?

@@bignickreacts Of course. It's actually rare to find a song where he does not rap. This was just a cover he fully rearranged (original songs were forbidden on the show). He usually both raps ans sings.

Yes it's Jessie Jay and she was a contestant. I believe it's a competition but the performers are already famous. Jessie Jay won that season of "The Singer". Hua won it also, but I'm not sure what season/year it was. This show has some outstanding talent. However, Hua Cheny stole my heart.
You should react to "Fake Monk" by Hua on the show. If you do, get the video where he is giving the backstory or why he chose the song. It's not a song he wrote.
But the lyrics resonated with him and he explains why. It's a VERY intense performance. It's like nothing I've ever see/heard before. It's not just a song when it comes to Hua, it's an experience.

I am a singer is a Chinese show of renowned singers. In 2017, they invited Dimash as the only non-Chinese performer. Due to politics, he did not win, although he was the best and was warmly received by the Chinese audience. To improve the impression a little, in 2018 Jassy J. performed and won even though Hua Chenyu was dominant. In that season, Dimash performed as a guest with the song Lionel Richi Hello. At the time of the 2020 pandemic, Hua won. After the second episode, the performers sang from their homes. Great season and excellent Chinese performers.

Aloha Nick, I have been watching your reactions for a while now and you just fascinate me with your honesty. I like your originality and humor. I first started watching you with Dimash though I knew a little about him a couple of years before I started on your channel. Only recently have I discovered Hua Hua and Zhou Shen. But I just think that Dimash has the best voice ever and that Hua Hua is the best showman. No one can touch these two! These two also mixes musical genres in their songs like no other too! My second favorite artist behind Dimash. Dimash is so unpredictable in all but the fact that he is going to be incredible. 7 Personalities is an absolute roller coaster. It is as suggested, he pulls off 7 personalities on stage until the last one kind of descends into madness. He is a musical genius.

Sorry dear, but the rules were always the same on The Singer, the 500 audience at the scene vote their favorite singers/songs. It's a bit hard to believe for the Dears, but Sandy Lam who won the 2017 Singer is a very much loved singer in China, simple as that.

@@pattypetronillemartin2608 To be fair it was a poor song choice for Dimash in the final round, having to go for a song that was a duet rather than one with vocal fireworks like Adagio, but it's water under the bridge. The contest catapulted his career outside the Russophone countries and taught him lots about how to play with an audience, thanks to the production standards and engaging with other top singers.
Mind you, I don't think Sandy's best performance was in the final either, but performing a duet with A-mei doing one of her own songs was a canny move. And it's thanks to Dimash's singing partner Laura Shang spotting something special about Hua Chenyu in the auditions for another contest some years early that kickstarted his path to fame.

Please react to another artist Zhou Shen who has also performed in the singer and sang ordinary road solo and duet with Pu Shu ( I think the songwriter ). Zhou Shen sings male soprano with a beautiful angelic voice . I urge you to listen to him , you will not be disappointed.

You can't go wrong picking Hua Chenyu performances (either of his own songs or masterly rearrangements of covers that are demanded by the some of the contest rules). If you're looking for another artist to react to then the Kazakh singer Dimash Kudaibergen is a popular one. He took part in the Singer 2017 series the year before (youngest contestant and runner-up overall) and that kicked his career up a notch. He's improved by leaps and bounds since then, but even those performances are epic.

While you are in China you should check out Zhou Shen. His voice is unbelievable! Along with Dimash he is also one I have on my play list. His songs are Time to say goodbye, Memory ( from the play Cats) he was also on the singer in 2020 the same year as Hau Chenu

Some opined that Hua Chenyu should have won the 2018 "Singer" competition instead of Jessie J. The controversy started in 2017 when Dimash got the 2nd place. The fans shouted for an explanation why Dimash lost and they brought up the idea that he lost because he is non-chinese.The program organizers allegedly washed their hands and the following year they brought in a strong contender in the person of Jessie J, may be to disprove the allegation that the organizers do not allow foreigners to win tbe competition. Unfortunately for the organizers, many fans claimed that Hua Chenyu should have got the top place. By the way, it is said that all the contestants are professional singers, and the audience were either singers or a musicians who were carefully selected.
The Singer was a friendly competition show where already famous artists were invited to participate. In each show, the 500 audience would vote their favorite performance, at the end of the series, the artist who got the most votes would win. Dimash didn't win because he didn't get the most votes, simple as that. For HuaHua, what could have been an issue is that he arrived at the 4th episode whereas Jessie J competed from episode 1, but Hua Chenyu's fans didn't raise any trouble about that. The audience consisted of ordinary people, fans of the show or of the singers, there may have been musicians among them, but also plumbers, truck drivers or bakers etc for all we know hahaha, a friend of mine assisted to the show, she's Canadian and flew to China to attend the show, she's no musician or professional in the entertainment industry.
I like the original faster version of Pu Shu, and westlife version is also fast. This is too slow I’m not used to it.

this is not angelic enough, you should listen to zhou shen monsters.. he has the most angelic voice that i've ever heard for a guy. besides monsters, he hand plenty of songs you can indulge in with his angelic voice.. and he sings in quite a number of language too. i do hope you check in him and im waiting for that reaction video.
The important point of Hua is notthe "angelic" thing. This is a very tiny part of his whole music work. He can do almost all the genres, he can combine what ever element in his music and never stopping surprises you.He makes you think: oh i dont even know music can be make in this way! And he can delivery the message through the melody and arrangement directly even though you don't understand the lyrics. He is not only singing. He gives audience different scenes using music. To me, Zhou however need more work to get into this level. I used to listen to zhou for a while, but i he always gives me a same scene in his music.
