I have French Black Copper Marans. They have lightly feathered legs. I have no problems with dirty legs and feet. The feathers are black so not really an issue with looking dirty. They are my favorite birds. ... beautiful, gentle, and friendly. I also have Speckled Sussex which I love, Barred Rocks, and Buff Orpingtons. Just received some olive eggers, Rhode Island Reds, EE’s, and Welsummer chicks. I usually order from Cackle Hatchery and My Pet Chicken. Going to try to hatch our own Black Coppers and Speckled Sussex this spring!!

First time commenter and first time chicken owner this Feb. Checked out the internet like you and have decided to try Meyers hatchery. I love variety so here's most of my order list. Blue copper maran, easter egger, lavender orpington, swedish flower, blue splash maran and golden cuckoo maran. Desperate for a buff and silver laced polish crested but so far there still sold out but I'm going to keep calling till my dead line Feb 5th. I also enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing what new chicks you get. I might make some videos of my chicken journey not sure yet.
It's my first time too. We ordered 8 from Meyers on dec 3rd. They're 7 weeks now. We've had them in the bathroom in their brooder this whole time. They will probably go outside this week.
Hello Mehdi! Alot of change has happened since my January video. We decided to sell our home and downsize into a condo by the water. I found a good home for my girls and it was hard to give them up. It was time for a life change. We are enjoying our new lifestyle but I do miss my girls and the coop. We will see where life takes us in the future. Continue to enjoy my videos and channel. I'm still here to answer comments. Thanks for watching and Happy Chicken Keeping! 😀
My wife and I had chickens in the 80's in North Carolina but we are getting ready to build a coop here and go again. (Arkansas). I'm planing a coop very similar to yours, I love the design. Right now we are planing to order started pullets at about 15 to 20 weeks old to start with. It's great setting with you and watching your "girls".... Thanks for the video's! (Don't think you'll have dirty leg problems with feathered legged birds with as clean as you keep your coop!)
awwwwww! cute chickens I had ordered this spring was leghorn, gold campine which turned out to be a roo, instead of a hen, two plymouth rocks a silver spangled hamburg that got killed by my dog, a speckled sussex, a cornish, a black polish white crest, want to order some more polish next year.
Hi Justine love the videos! I wanted to put in my two cents about feathered legged chickens... I didn’t love the Brahmas and ended up selling them. They weren’t the best layers and took up a lot of feed and space. I do however love Cochins, they lay great and are the cutest ball of fluff! They are also very friendly and just a beautiful bird. I currently have 4 white a mottled and a blue and I will be ordering more this year. I haven’t had any issue with them becoming dirty, I keep my coop and run very clean and dry and my white Cochins are always clean looking. I also purchased for the first time from Mcmurray the Whiting True Blues and greens. Oh man these birds are Phenomenal! They are a leghorn cross that lay blue and green eggs. They lay every day and are beautiful birds, don’t be fooled by the ugly pictures they have on the website. I have beautiful interesting colors on all 7 of mine. Good luck with the spring chicks 🐣
Hello jag, thanks for the comment and the info about the feathered legs you have had. I think mine would stay clean too. I keep my coop and run very clean. I didn't think Cochins were good layers. I thought brahmas were fairly good layers but not at the top the list. I love the Whiting True Greens and Blues. They are great layers and love the colors. I ordered those last year. Well see what Spring brings. Thanks for watching! 😁
Hi Justine, I just wanted to share my experience with feathered legged chickens they can be very uglllllliieeeeeee...... LOL I say order in March and order 40!!! Go big or go home and there is lots of room in that coop. Loved the video.
Hello, I sell them around two years and raise new chicks to replace. Healthy hens will produce for several years but the number of eggs daily starts to decline after 3 to 4 years old. Thanks for watching and happy holidays!
Hi Justine, greetings from South Florida! I had a few questions regarding a chicken breed I was considering, the Welsummer. I was wondering how they are in terms of egg production, disposition, heat tolerance and loudness? Also, when yours lay her first egg? (I hear they sometimes start at 9-12 months!) Any information would be a huge help, Evelyn P.S. I look forward to all your videos!
Hello Evelyn, Welsummers are great additions to any flock. They lay pretty well, 4 to 5 eggs a week. They started laying around 7 to 8 months old. Their temperament is calm. They tolerate heat fine but very hot temps in summer can affect laying. They are good winter layers too. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and happy chicken keeping.
Hello Nathan, so far it has always been good for me. The chicks always arrive alive and healthy looking. You can check the reviews on their website. Thanks for watching!
Cole's Backyard Coop; I was just wondering because I ordered from McMurray this February and half of the chicks died within a few days. I have done this before so I don’t think it was my fault. Anyway i was just trying to decide if I should try mail order chicks again! Thanks Coles backyard coop
@@nathanbarker4394 sorry to hear you had that happen. I would try again. I've not had any die from them. Also, I haven't tried the feathered feet chickens. I might order some to see how they are. Good luck!
Hello! What do you use for the floor of your run, under perches and in the nests? I saw once you you had coop clean, but can't tell if you switched to something different.
Hello s beck. For the base of the run, I use top soil and then coop clean. In the coop, I use pine shavings and straw or hay in the nest boxes. Thanks for watching and happy chicken keeping.
Hi Derek, chicks are vaccinated for Marek's Disease at the hatchery typically. What are their symptoms? They have have an upper respiratory infection like my flock did.
I am not sure if they are having any respiratory problems they are fine at night the wyandotte was a hen perfectly fine then the next morning dead the other two are like the one in the video can walk on the leg... will they all get our will some live?@@colesbackyardcoop
@@dereks29 I hope so. I would start them all on tetracycline in the water or ask th ed vet what they recommend. Being that they are not laying, the antibiotics will kill the infection in the whole flock with out contamination to the eggs and it take 4 to 5 weeks to leave their system so you wouldn't eat their eggs during that time.
I’m in Central Florida too ❤️
I love your chickens im building a coop and getting chicke s as we speak there is nothing like it
Thank you so much! Good luck with your new chickens!
