The was a very good reason that Yamaha used a full compliment of bolts on the inlet cam bearing carrier. Without one of the bolts the engine may not last long and I pity anyone who buys it with the missing bolt. I fail to see how anyone would ignore replacing the missing bolt. All the remaining problems with the machine are quite minor and easily fixed.
In my country (Netherlands) i live on the country site but i think for every 1 add here dirt bike quad what ever he must have like a hundred adds where he lives.
Nice to see the bikes and still getting over that beautiful Honda quad you built, watched it many times as the sound is incredible, on another note where is the dog, not seen him for sometime now
You need to get a groove life silicone wedding band to wear. As a mechanic speaking, they are safer when working and riding. Keep the metal one in the safe for special occasions 🙂 Keep your finger.
My boss made himself a titanium ring. After an accident in the shop I had to cut it off to save his finger. It was messy, but he never stopped makin jokes. Friggin Canadian.
I would hate to watch your videos after I sold you a running bike that I screwed up trying to be like you. 😅😅. Although you keep things simple as possible it’s only easy to keep it simple when you know what you are doing.
🌴so I’ve been watching for awhile setting on the side lines , you seem to have a kinda check list on problem solving non running projects , when you buy one much like this quad these are the ones that are scary as the previous owner said he rebuilt it and can’t get it running , you really don’t know his capabilities, skills, knowledge of mechanics, plain and simple it’s a crap shoot , but this is what make your vid’s so cool even if it does get running it could come apart on ya on the rest run , 😏
Check out RMStator they have a Stator upgrade kit that changes all the charging system and moves the lights to DC voltage works awesome a must for the older YFZ’s. Would make a great install video. Merry Christmas keep up the good work.
Just a heads up to all you 2vintage fans. Check that you are still subscribed to Joe's youtube. I watch everything Joe puts on his channel and love it, but. today I found I was mysteriously unsubscribed. This apparently happens with youtube so, check you are still subbed.
Weird. I was as well. I subscribed a long time ago. Does that impact revenue? Every video he posts it gets suggested and I watch almost all. Didn’t even notice.
Joe, could you start calling the knob on the carburetor a 'choke', when it's an enrichment circuit? A choke is a plate closing the carburetor inlet. Just trying to help you make better content. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎅🎄😴
Should never wear wedding rings around DC power it will take your finger down to the bone,it’s just good practice to not wear them when working around moving parts dc current is worse than AC it’s deadly I’d rather get shocked by 120v ac than 10v dc stay safe Joe & Vinny
Nice quad, your skills, and patience pay off long after most of us would have spent $$$ to repair or set fire 🎅Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, to you and yours. Did you get Jade an Oil Filter Wrench? 🍻🍻To a prosperous 2025
question.. if you already have the cams off, wouldnt you just take the head off, and check the valves, to make sure? change the head gasket, since you already have it torn down and ready? to keep from doing double work.
Joe has the ability to break things down into simple parts and work to a system of methodical diagnosis. Spark, Compression and Fuel. Once you find the main cause, simply investigate in progressive steps until you work out the issue. Joe is great at providing a commentary on these steps. Acquiring a beat up machine which has a dubious history means he has to be thorough in diagnosis, taking nothing as a given because previous repairs by previous owners can be disastrous. Take little notice of a seller saying "it just needs a carb clean". One of Joe's great strengths is his ability to understand electrical systems and fault find. He understands how things work and therefore determine where to find the fault.
Question Joe, I am still absolutely dumb when it comes to engines although I've learnt a lot from watching your videos. When it comes to the valves how do you know when to change the shim instead of adjusting with a spanner and screwdrive
If it has shims, that's the way to adjust it. If it does not have shims, it will have an adjustment screw on the top of the rocker arm and no shims. For example, my Honda Rubicon does not use shims. It only has adjustment screws, which is much easier and faster to adjust. These do need to be checked and adjusted more often. Usually, the higher performance-based engines will have shims. The engineers figured that on high reving engines with more compression and dual cams, there's a chance an adjustment screw could potentially come loose running at higher rpm's. Adjustment screws work just fine for trail and work machines that don't see racing conditions or run at a continuous high rpm. I'm 48, and I've been around atv's all my life, and that's the way I've come to understand it. Hope it helps.
The timing was off. The chain was tight. He could have just cranked in the tensioner without collapsing it. Center Intake shim was tight. He could have just put the valve cups in wrong spots. Did you ever put that missing bolt in?
Just a suggestion from a subscriber.... instead of spending a quarter of the video running up and down with a repaired machine, why don't you spend it with cleaning and painting? It will look so much better.
sitting here bored in AUS and bang, Joe punches out another machine, thank you sir.
Waking up here in Northern MN, Coffee and bam Joe "The Machine" drops a vid!!
Watching the sun rise here in Stamford Connecticut with a coffee and bam! Joe has again conquered the unconquerable.
I wish you and Jade a wonderful Christmas and New Year full of love and laughter. ❤
Trust you more than most bike garages I have put my bikes Into
Awesome diagnosis again. Thank goodness the valve was not bent. I actually jumped when it started, was not expecting it to be so quick.👍❤️
I laughed when it backfired out of the exhaust. You jumped forward, turning your backside towards it, like, “shoot me in the back”😂🤣

It's always fun to watch you tear down and rebuild stuff !!!
You just keep banging out the new projects Joe,well done
A good backfire to wake up the engine (and the mechanic!)😁
Your new camera view is awesome!!!
Are there any broken atv in your area anymore? You seem to fix them all. You seem to turn them around faster than the dealership can. Great content.
In my country (Netherlands) i live on the country site but i think for every 1 add here dirt bike quad what ever he must have like a hundred adds where he lives.
Another great video Joe good luck with the rest of the build
Nice to see the bikes and still getting over that beautiful Honda quad you built, watched it many times as the sound is incredible, on another note where is the dog, not seen him for sometime now

Just hope he did everything right on that top end rebuild.
my form of asmr and background content while i study frfr
Sounds good Joe 👍 have a marry Christmas u and your family
You should add a cylinder leak gauge set up to your diag. Then you would know where its leaking compression from before tear down.
BAMG she is running 😎
Great show Joe, Is Vinny on vacation? 😅

I laughed out loud when it backfired😂
And BOOM, she starts!
The missing bolt. "If four will hold it,,, three outta!"
Hiding anything special for a Christmas video Joe?
Now I know what a bucket and shim are.
Sparks exhaust is sweet.

54:12 Wisconsin OH YEAH
Joe did you find the missing bolt on the head?
I can just picture the guy and his buddies standing around trying to figure out why it wouldn't start.
What were the two yellow electrical wire nuts for? Maybe an electrical issue?
How did you learn to do all of this??
yeah probably dad and mates or watching videos on UA-cam
His grandfather that passed not long ago. He did a video on one of his bikes

Early vlog, love it Joe quad looks interesting!👌💪👍💪🤝🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I have one of these w a gsxr750 engine in it
The timing was off. The chain was tight. He could have just cranked in the tensioner without collapsing it. Center Intake shim was tight. He could have just put the valve cups in wrong spots. Did you ever put that missing bolt in?
Or check the oil like you always do?
What a horror show. Some people should just not pick up a wrench, ever. Good job sir.
What about that missing bolt. The threads are probably stripped out.
