The funniest thing about the Gadabout is the fact that the item you normally need to turn someone of another class into a Sage can be found... in a hour that's only a few seconds walk away from the place where characters can swap vocations. Nice work, y'all.
You know how in dragon quest 11 you get introduced to Maximilien and l’Académie de notre maître des médailles right? He tasks you with collecting mini-medals and rewards you with equipment or recipes the more you gather. After collecting 100ish medals he gives you, and I’m not joking; Erdrick’s Shield. Out of nowhere, sitting in the office of a fat French principal, lies the second best shield in the game.

In Dragon Quest VIII, if you complete the events of Ascantha and the wisher's peak before Angelo joins your party, there will be different party chat dialogue with Yangus and Jessica telling you that the banquette with King Pavan was cool, but they need to focus on pursuing Dhoulmagus. Then, if you complete the events of Maella Abbey, when you leave, you will see the original scene that was supossed to happen when you leave Ascantha after the banquette, only that this time King Trode will be upset because he was imprisoned and treated as a monster by Marcello and the templars, and then Yangus will have the idea of going to Pickham. I have never seen that scene in any gameplay on youtube, all the gameplays I have watched recruit Angelo first and then go for Ascantha. I also wanted to see if it was possible to go to Pickham without Angelo, but the Wisher's Peak was already too hard without him, I don't think I have the skill nor the patience to grind levels with Hero Yangus and Jessica to go to Pickham without Angelo, but I think it would be possible. I may try to do that in the next days. Nice video!

- Lanson is the one that represents Australia in DQ3 and the Aliahan continent is fictional, also "cooe" is used only in the English version. - Kiryl's AI is also tend to heal Alena immediately, even when she takes only a little damage. - What!? They've cut out the "It seemed to be great last night!" scene in Tantegel!? Even if you take the princess, not that random girl!? That was one icon of DQ1!! - The hero of 8 is immune to curse not just because he has a Dragovian origin, but because the Dragovian curse which sealed his memories was so strong that he got a perfect immunity against any other curse. -I've never tried saying no to Valenitina, but there's a similar scene in DQ6, when you say no to Madame Luca when she asks to go to that cave. If you keep saying no, she gives up, doesn't give you the medicinal herbs and Milly's not gonna go along with you to the cave. - I'm always doing it with the Venus' Tear. One thing you forgot to mention here is the special “Ortega’s Death” theme that is only on the North American DQIII releases. when Ortega dies against King Hydra, a special song plays that is not even on the ROM in the Japanese version.

I actually used a Gadabout in my first original run of DQIII without knowing what's his secret was. I just thought that using a clown was cute and he misses just like Torneko in IV.
A correction for your trivia about the Hero of DQ8. The reason he is resistant to curses is not because of his nature as a dragovian, but because he is already cursed. A curse was placed upon him at birth by the leader of the dragovians that would seal away his memories resulting in him being completely ignorant of his own origins. The curse is strong enough to not be overpowered or removed by any other curses or blessings like that of Rapthorne's curse which destroyed the kingdom of Trodain.
it's baffling since every remake supposedly improved things from the previous version... SFC added animated battle sprites, GBC version added collectable medals, Switch/iOS got... HD art, I guess

17:35 the hero being uncursable has nothing to do with being Half-Dragovian. The Curse the Dragovians put on the hero to seal his memories had the side effect of cancelling out any other curses.
There is something that has been bugging me ever since I played DQ3 and could probably be a theory, but I never see this discussed. Where did Zoma come from? In DQ3 when you fall into the hole, you reach the "underworld" which is the DQ1 world, supposedly it's underground almost as if the earth had a second layer below it where DQ1 and 2 takes place. Yet, when you are there, you are told that Zoma came from ANOTHER hole in the northern cave, but that's it, there is no further discussion nor lore about this hole other than your characters (Somehow) pop from there after defeating Zoma. The theory is, could Zoma come from another world even deeper below Alefgard? Just how deep does it go, are there maybe more worlds below it?... And if it is underground, how does the "day and night" cycle work exactly? Someone once told me that Alefgard whas not literally underground and that it was a different dimension but the game never clarifies it and all you are told is that it lies below the DQ3 since you and Ortega fell through holes to reach it. (On another note, could Erdrick also have spanish ancestry due to his father's name? which is actually a last name in spanish, meaning his true name is "Erdrick Ortega"?).
There's a theory that says zoma conquered more world's than one seen in the game, the cave he came out from is called "nail mark" and that hole is supposed to be a portal he created to reach alefgard it also says he has more disciples than baramos that conquered world's for him so he wanted to let his last servant to take the world above
My theory is DQ VI is connected to the Erdrick trilogy. The area of Murdaw's Keep and Rubiss' temple is pretty similar to the map of DQI. It's not a perfect match, but that could be explained by the land shift and changing over who knows how many ages.
An indicator on what entry you're talking about as well as showing the chart itself more would be good, but otherwise this is really cool. There's some indicators by the way that Erdrick was meant to be the base alt in Smash. His iconicness is one thing, but also other things such as how he's typically chosen for more promotional things such as the second anniversary image and most of all Sephiroth's trailer. If this is true they may have changed it to Luminary late in for dumb reasons like "Oh he's the newest guy people might recognize him, use him so people buy his game." Personally I wish Erdrick was the base especially when taking longevity into mind.
Ooh! I bet I know why the Bunny Girl's voice changes each time! Probably because she's actually the Seer! That would explain the mystery of what she's even doing on this random abandoned floating island in the middle of nowhere. I always wondered that myself actually. All they really had to do to reveal a lot of this lore was to have random books on the bookshelves contain some of this lore about the more mysterious areas. Instead we get a bunch of random boring stories about stuff mostly unrelated to the game or only related in very loose ways. Most of the stuff you read on the bookshelves in the game is pretty boring, but it could have been so much better! And yes, I have read EVERY SINGLE BOOK in the entire game and talked to every single NPC. I have absolutely poured over this game in every aspect and probably have 1,000 hours or more of real game time into it! It's a LONG freaking game if you really take your time. It's got an insane amount of content.
In the GBC version of DQ1, if you go to the inn in Tantegel and stay the night, the same scene occurs as if the girl that follows you in town spent the night.
The "cooee" being used as a smoking gun for the hero being Australian feels pretty tenuous tbh. It's as british as it is auzzie, especially if you're trying to evoke on olde vibe (as old as the 50s at least lol). However, the continents thing, yeah, can't argue with that. Also, awesome video man, thanks for all of this!
about the Estark theory, when he appears in the 3ds version of dragon quest 8 he states that he doesn't know if he was good or evil so that could actually hint towards his ambiguous origins as a hero turned villain
I was completely shocked by that Calasmos one. I guess it makes sense that there would be some kind of larval state, but I never would've guessed! Truly interesting
I think the overall theory of Kiefer/Orgodemir based on what one fan told me is that he might have originally been possessed around the time that the Roamers had their failed ceremony and how his departure rubbed fans the wrong way. You know him already finding a purpose by finding the Fragments, yet claiming he had still been looking for his purpose. Also: 1. Aishe arguably having the least interms of story presence having only been added to provide a substitute for him. 2. Yeah part of it is based on the then upcoming remake of IV and how Psaro is not only purified from the Secret of Evolution, but joins the party. Meaning Kiefer would be separated from Orgodemir and rejoin, along with Lala. Heck, much like how Faraday is later empty near the end of the game of inhabitants as Zamoksva had the same thing happen in the original and remake of IV. 3. Things backing it up include the Super Kiefer bit with the heavy Resilience increase and how he is able to equip some gear from even after the Alltrades Abbey scenario.
Did you know the stone naming from Heliodor in XI is very similar to a early 90s novel (Seirei Rubiss Densetsu) where Spirits also have gems based names? Rubiss, Dialto, Emeralda... They also have fish based last name.
The first of the three DQ11 glyphs is definitely supposed to be Cetacea, not the world tree (I tried to spell it, failed). You can see the wings, the tail, the horn on the armor, etc. Still an amazing video, and its a minor thing in a sea of great facts, still though it was worth pointing out
7:06 The animation of kiryl failing to cast thwack in DQ Heroes is actually a reference to dragon quest monster battle road victory, where an identical animation is seen for one of his finishers.
just by seeing your video i recognized how the DQXI Worldmap resembles the real World. You can clearly see North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. So many hidden things. Great Video.
I’m so thankful for videos like these. Thank you! It would have been so cool if they didn’t make so many changes but that’s okay. Favorite RPG series of all time!
3:25 You'd think that, but that's a localization thing of more recent versions of the game, not in the original games, let alone in Japanese. That said the island to the left of the start location more resembles Australia (You know, the one that has the town of Lancel in the GBC version), especially with that desert area through the middle and consider the scale of it compared to other contenents) while the starting Aliahan is, other than a good jump in point to learn how the game works before it opens up to you, would be Zelandia (check out continent plate maps to see what I mean) or potentially Antarctica before shifting south. Or even just an add in where a compass rose would be. Point is, even though the map is very similar to a real world map, there's some distinct shaping differences that screams a time way before current tectonic plate positions.
When I first played DQ11 and got to the black dragon while I was running, my game glitched I think and somehow next thing I know I beat the dragon without laying a finger on it and saw the scene I thought that was meant to happen didn't know it was an extra thing.
With DQ 11 the black dragon hidden scene can be done if you are playing the definitely edition and go to 2D mode then back to 3D mode and choose to go back to the beginning of the of the game. And doing that is an unofficial new game plus where you don't get to bring back any quest items.
I'm very curious about how this works actually. I know it can be used for item replication but my biggest question is do the characters keep the levels and stats?
The main character doesn't live in Australia. Australia is the continent to the left, with Lancel on it. Aliahan, where the main character is from, lies on a continent which has no equivalent on our Earth. Maybe the legendary continent Mu.
I have to say that DQ9 is probably my favorite even though I wish the game would just let you play more files and buy the DLC without needing to jump through as many hoops as you do nowadays; a modern switch re-release might make it one of the most successful games of the modern era if they did it right, but they'd have to update the graphics for modern hardware
43:19 I'm peruvian and ofc got that there was some Nazca lines inspiration with those glyphs but wasn't aware about the architectural stuff though that explains why it felt eerily familiar when I was exploring Cobblestone for the first time lol
In DQ 11 you can't name the main character Robert. It's kind of silly IMO but w/o going too much into spoiler territory people in the same family often pass names down through the generations...
I had no clue of the pop version of only lonely boy, that was my favorite part of the whole iceberg I now like that the even more and i really think the fact that sugiyama decided tu include it in the game it’s beautiful
I'm so glad they changed Meena/Nara's HP growth in the subsequent remakes of DQ IV. Her HP growth was practically nonexistent in the original halting a potentially needed healer.

"They were planning on having a Princess of Cannock come out of the crowd and stab you for killing her brother."
... *WHAT*
22:30 - I actually heard of that. We used to call that the 'Tatsunoko Ending'. Some random person comes up and kills the main character at the end of the game.
Well now i understand were the "Ruby Path of Doom" quest in the switch version of DQ XI S came from.
The funniest thing about the Gadabout is the fact that the item you normally need to turn someone of another class into a Sage can be found... in a hour that's only a few seconds walk away from the place where characters can swap vocations. Nice work, y'all.
This was always a solid strategy to having 2 sages for end game
To be fair, the dungeon where it's found is pretty brutal.
Second best? What's the best shield, and where can you obtain it?
@@paperluigi6132 The best shield in the game is actually Drustan's shield, exclusive to Hendrik, as it gives the most defense. I believe you can find it in a chest in one of Drustan's trial. As for the universal best shield, It is the metal king shield. You receive the recipy , again as the last reward for collecting 115 mini-medals
Also, the weird egg form in erdwin’s lantern is briefly spotted during the cutscene where (spoilers) mordegon destroys the lantern in the second act of the game
Happens in dqix aswell, you can casually get the rusty varient which you alchemise into erdrick armor
THAT explains the tockle quest in DQ11, about the guy that shared his map that lead to the king metal slimes in the Ruby path of doom
Nice video!
I like how the upgraded final sword in dq11 looks like a fusion of both erdricks sword, and the zenithian!!!
The keifer one makes a bit more sense when you think about how he has the secret lvl boost to 666 resistance that you mentioned earlier in the vid.
19:27 Speaking of that ruby path of doom, dq11 S has a reference to it, as when you speak to Aquila, he mentions the phrase “ruby path of doom” suddenly entered his mind when you first talk to him.
I even go to Pickham straight from Peregrin Quay (or whatever the English name is) so I defeat the Trap Box without Angelo...
The Aliahan continent is based on the mythical lost continent of Mu.
They took out the dialogue in DQ 1 because modern square enix has an ethics department
@@leargamma4912 “Such a pity…”
@@dustbin5044 Mu is fictional. There are maps of its design because is part of ancient fiction. Just like there are maps of Westeros or the Middle Earth.
I'm kinda unsure on the Erdrick being from Australia bit... I was under the impression Aliahan was the equivalent of the mythical continent of Mu, which is basically the Pacific's version of Atlantis.
Now the island WEST of his home continent, Lanson, definitely is a bit more Australia-based
You are correct, Australia was the continent to the West of Aliahan.
I agree. Aliahan is not Australia.
Maybe he’s New Zealander then
One thing you forgot to mention here is the special “Ortega’s Death” theme that is only on the North American DQIII releases. when Ortega dies against King Hydra, a special song plays that is not even on the ROM in the Japanese version.
Is that only in the NES version, or did future ports include it as well?
The Dragon moving his head is used when you go to save the Princess in DQ1
When you use the action button on him he wakes up and faces you before you battle.
I like that your avatar keeps getting more ripped
When i was in middle school, i had a gameshark for gameboy that let you use a memory scanner, and i found the dq1+2 pikachu AND gundam entirely by accident, and it totally creeped me tf out
You can also get the inn easter egg by sleeping in one while you carry the princess!
This video is awesome✊🏽 As a fellow creator who covers Dragon Quest, your videos inspire me to strive to get better! This one taught me so much cool trivia I had no idea about, DQ is truly underrated.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing your knowledge dude! It's great to learn more about one of the most influential JRPG series out there
I actually used a Gadabout in my first original run of DQIII without knowing what's his secret was.
After I beat DQ3 on Switch I was shocked to learn about the Super Famicom remake that had animated monster sprites
it's baffling since every remake supposedly improved things from the previous version... SFC added animated battle sprites, GBC version added collectable medals, Switch/iOS got... HD art, I guess
It deserved much better for being such an important game
Good news did you see the new remake trailer ?
@@shadowcomments6481 when I saw the trailer I thought of this, very excited for the remake
Well the Octopath team is remaking DQ3 now in HD and it's gonna have lots of animated sprites, so we're gonna be all good in a bit.
Great work on this video. I'm a pretty hardcore fan, and even I learned a few things here. There's really not enough Dragon Quest content on UA-cam, so keep doing what you're doing.
Awesome video. I really want to see you cover more Dragon Quest lore theories. I’d like to see you cover the timeline split theory from DQ11 from when the Luminary travels to the past
To clatify, those huge Nazca Lines are not Incan, there are from the Nazca civilization, one of the many, many peruavian cultures before the Incas. Saying all of this as Peruavian DQ fan, and i'm really glad they included those references to our ancient cultures.
Holy shit, I didn't know that about Ashlynn! It's always cool to see fan theories becoming true.
I really want to thank you for adding subtiles. I’m not English and it really helped me through the whole video.
Just finished DQ11. It was an excellent game and the detail throughout was awesome. I loved the post game teasers. Can't wait for DQ12.
19:36 - The Ruby Path of Doom is the famous map that ended up becoming the name of an optional area in Dragon Quest XI S.
Not only that, but the boss of that area is a conglomeration of Metal King Slimes who are upset at how they've been repeatedly hunted for EXP.
I really enjoyed this video bro. I've been wanting to see a DQ iceberg for a while and I'm glad I've learned stuff that I didn't even know. Props to you for doing it. I've been wanting to replay DQ11 since it's been my fav DQ game or maybe the whole series? Maybe eventually since I got a lot of games on my plate. Awesome video.
Outstanding work right here as always!! Couldnt expect less from the DQ fan club chief
It was time for someone to expose all the amazing myths this franchise holds, thank you so much for this!
I’d love to see a part 2 from this series
i remember putting a rediculous amount of time in dragon warrior 2 on the NES. its amazing the things you forget. i dont remember the prince getting sick at all.
17:35 the hero being uncursable has nothing to do with being Half-Dragovian. The Curse the Dragovians put on the hero to seal his memories had the side effect of cancelling out any other curses.
I could add one more thing on the iceberg, where characters from the Shiren series do appear in a few Dragon Quest spin-off games.
@@erdrickthedouchebaghero5399 That's a nice take, never seen this discussed nor this theory either, that's a good one.
My theory is DQ VI is connected to the Erdrick trilogy. The area of Murdaw's Keep and Rubiss' temple is pretty similar to the map of DQI. It's not a perfect match, but that could be explained by the land shift and changing over who knows how many ages.
The first game had the town theme but remixed with pizzicato strings, not intermezzo from IV! I think it's the same for builders 1.
Loved the video. You gonna go to that Dragon Quest island theme park in Japan when it opens? That would be a cool video
Dark Cloud 1 & 2 are still some of my favorites from when PS2 was first released. Still haven't seen anything else that resembled those games.
Glad I'm not the only Dark Cloud fan on here! 😊
The "cooee" being used as a smoking gun for the hero being Australian feels pretty tenuous tbh. It's as british as it is auzzie, especially if you're trying to evoke on olde vibe (as old as the 50s at least lol). However, the continents thing, yeah, can't argue with that.
Also, awesome video man, thanks for all of this!
about the Estark theory, when he appears in the 3ds version of dragon quest 8 he states that he doesn't know if he was good or evil so that could actually hint towards his ambiguous origins as a hero turned villain
he also said that in dq5 in the bonus dungeon
I was completely shocked by that Calasmos one. I guess it makes sense that there would be some kind of larval state, but I never would've guessed! Truly interesting
I think the overall theory of Kiefer/Orgodemir based on what one fan told me is that he might have originally been possessed around the time that the Roamers had their failed ceremony and how his departure rubbed fans the wrong way. You know him already finding a purpose by finding the Fragments, yet claiming he had still been looking for his purpose.
Also:
It's not a very unique concept. I'm not surprised
The first of the three DQ11 glyphs is definitely supposed to be Cetacea, not the world tree (I tried to spell it, failed). You can see the wings, the tail, the horn on the armor, etc. Still an amazing video, and its a minor thing in a sea of great facts, still though it was worth pointing out
I really appreciate this video. I’ve been searching for a good in depth DQ history, lore, etc. video and I think I’ve finally found it!
Cool Video man. I love Dragon Quest so much and this was some cool info of which some of it I didn't know. Thanks for making this.
24:50 this part reminds me of how in hylics you can get Somsnosa's gauntlets before she joins the party
wooooooo really love this video thanks for sharing all your knowledge
With such effort put into knowing the dq series, you could probably ask the devs about some of this and get answers.
Great video
Great video on one of my favorite series! Thank you for all of the research! Made my day!
7:06 The animation of kiryl failing to cast thwack in DQ Heroes is actually a reference to dragon quest monster battle road victory, where an identical animation is seen for one of his finishers.
DQ11s German names are changed for some reason:
Sylvando -> Rionaldo
Rab -> Bodo
Gemma -> Sandra
and many more
One thing I find is that Sylvando’s JP name was Sylvia. Which is ironic when you learn that “O” is masculine and “A” is feminine.
i really dislike these changes
i dont like them either, especially since the german version is just subbed so you hear the real name but read the „translated?“ name
just by seeing your video i recognized how the DQXI Worldmap resembles the real World. You can clearly see North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. So many hidden things. Great Video.
*Someone sneezes*
Kiryl: WHACK
I’m so thankful for videos like these. Thank you! It would have been so cool if they didn’t make so many changes but that’s okay. Favorite RPG series of all time!
DQ3 having the game react a certain way to a special name is actually amazing.
Dragon Quest is my favorite franchise of all time, but even the idea that we could have had a Dark Cloud 3 knowing we never got it is pretty sad.
The island where Aliahan is located is based on the mythical lost continent of Mu.
I'm sad that the video is over. I wish there were more videos on easter eggs throughout the series. Great video!!!!
23:44 - It should also be noted that they parodied this picture in La-Mulana, if you got through the optional area of the game.
I thought Aliahan was based on Atlantis. Learn something new everyday. Love this video.
Not planning on getting into dragon quest, I just like how Ichiban brings up Dragon Quest anytime he can in Yakuza 7
Dragon quest 11 was good
@@TheEnigmaticBM39 all of them are good
When I first played DQ11 and got to the black dragon while I was running, my game glitched I think and somehow next thing I know I beat the dragon without laying a finger on it and saw the scene I thought that was meant to happen didn't know it was an extra thing.
Incredibly good watch, man. Thank you for this!
Was only planning to stay for a few mins, but sat and watched the entire thing =D
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I really enjoyed the fact about the bunny girl actors.
So I just did this...
They patched this
@@marbleeuw4284 That's nice to hear, many years too late for me though.
I had no clue of the pop version of only lonely boy, that was my favorite part of the whole iceberg
I now like that the even more and i really think the fact that sugiyama decided tu include it in the game it’s beautiful
I still have a demo disc of DQ8 that I got from the old American version of Shonen Jump magazine.
Man, I wish we could get a DQ where we are the BBEG in the end. I think it would be a fun twist.
Oooooo boy I’ve been waiting for this
Thank you the DQ videos. I'm replaying the games 1 by 1.
Idk how i got here but dragon quest looks like somthing i definitely need to play
I learn a lot in this video. Thank you
I saw this video thanks to the Iwata Kickstarter book, great video!
The new monster in the dq4 medal set looks like Mystic Juliante from DQX
Nintendo sent me a hat for buying DQ9 back when it released. It's my favorite hat and I still wear it to this day!
Loved this video. I honestly only knew a few things like Ashlynn being the dragon.
This was a very entertaining and enlightening video.
THUMBNAIL GAME ON POINT
I'm so glad they changed Meena/Nara's HP growth in the subsequent remakes of DQ IV. Her HP growth was practically nonexistent in the original halting a potentially needed healer.
@42:50 - that's not Yggrasil, that's the fully powered version of Cetacea. Horn on the front and all.
Yeah I messed up that part, it was too late by the time I noticed
Dq9 wass my childhood dude greetings from germany great video
