- By popular demand, today we're bringing you more from the Backpack Gun Project. The original video from last August was about the "why" of the bag gun as much as it was about the "what" of the bag gun hardware. This time around, we're mostly just looking at cool gear. Because that's fun.

Y'all remember ammo? Good times
Pepperidge Farm remembers
I member.
Y'all remember when the world's most industrialised nation's well documented ability to rise to the challenges of increased demand, had to be ignored and everybody was told that a huge shortage was occurring, to deflect from suspicions about where the hell all the massively increased production is disappearing to?
.....You don't need to 'member, cause that's now.
Ammo? That the thing I use to use when we all could practice with our guns regularly?
@Biggest 23 I don't know who keeps perpetuating that idea, but it's wrong. Demand is higher than it's ever been and the manufacturers simply can't keep up. I have toured these ammo factories. They are all running WWII-era equipment with modern stuff bolted onto it. New machines and the space to run them are extremely costly and no manufacturer wants to commit to that kind of expansion for a demand spike that will likely subside within a couple of years.
“Some of you guys didn’t like my lightweight backpack carbine so here’s 10lbs of total overkill” lol
:D
Just waiting for all the, "Just workout more", comments.
@Sunny Gem Guess he needs to "Just workout more"
@@andreivaldez2929 Well, they definitely wouldn't like my Shiloh Sharps long range #2 (45-110) with all the extras- about 23 lbs. You should see the Back Pack you have to carry for THAT! LOL
This video is just Chris desperately trying to argue to his wife that he should be allowed to buy a 1500$ takedown lever action.
Absolutely love it! Try one in a .450 Marlin!
“It doesn’t have to be practical to be fun”. Spoken like a true gun enthusiast.
I can't wait until Magpul drops their FMG9 and the backpack gun becomes a lunchbox gun
In the original Magpul video about it, it was a back pocket gun.
I cannot wait. I’ve been waiting years for it to come out.
@@Sackmatters You can adapt airsoft version. Needs some work, but can be done.
Flux Raider Master Race reporting in for dissent.
ahh yes the failed design that failed twice and will fail a third time.
because fun fact trying to make a gun into a brick isnt practical 99% of the time. like do you guys forget the other time people have tried to make case guns and they all failed on the public market. its literally only used for security where carrying around a thick plastic shell of a case is deemed normal. and sadly this isnt the 1990 where those was common, you walk around with that now and people are gonna think youre carrying a bomb.
Your beard says “I have a gun” more than anything about your outfit and bag lol. Keep making awesome videos like this!
Couldn’t say it any nicer myself lmao
Lucky Gunner Ammo: "Do you want to see more guns?"
Us: "Duh."
Ok dude, this video was incredible. I didn’t know I needed a 35 minute video from Lucky Gunner in my life tonight, but I did.
I can really tell how much time, thought and research went into this. So much great information and I’m currently running a few very similar systems. I really appreciate that you talked about the bags too.
For me the top picks are the “home-made” Banshee setup from the last video, and the folding AR. Personally I’m running a BRN-180S with a folder (1913A), HS512C, Magpul Pros, Streamlight HLX/LCS combo and Burnproof gear rail wrap in a Vertx Gamut 2.0 bag. It’s served me quite well.
My brain took that Christmas party joke as a San Bernardino reference but then I realized it's probably a Die Hard reference
I've got my 10.5" 5.56 AR with a Sylvan Arms Folding Stock Adapter for my backpack gun. Right now I'm running it in a standard, run of the mill Monster Energy backpack. It isn't quite perfect as far as size goes, since I've got a Surefire Procomp muzzle device attached, but it will definitely be shorter once I get the DeadAir Keymo flash hider installed. I do plan on grabbing a slightly larger backpack to fit it in, as well. For now though, it works. It allows me to fit my 10.5, with flashlight, RDS, magnifier, sling, MBUS, multiple magazines for my primary and my secondary, cleaning supplies, basic repair tools, a full change of clothes, spare parts, and a plethora of other EDC and "just in case" pieces of equipment. It's even for a pocket that was large enough for me to use as a dedicated IFAK. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out, and it goes with me everywhere.
regardless of what "muzzle device" you have, incl. linear comps, unless you have a true suppressor you're going to deafen/blind yourself shooting a 10.5" 556 AR.
I would ditch the scope and use a light weight red dot sight to save weight, especially if you are using 300.
Seeing that 1892 Alaskan almost made me cry, I've been on a waiting list for one for months.
Apparently the gun is only 7.4oz so lighter than most steaks...
@@craigcutler6919 That is less than my Ruger LCP! And the 7.4 oz is fully loaded.
That can't be right. Surely he meant pounds, right? _Right?_ C'mon...pounds, right?
I still love that your intro graphic segment is so short and simple, not some 15 second long ostentatious monstrosity. Like half a second with the logo and into the actual content. Perfect.
*military arms channel has entered the chat*
I have the Ruger PC carbine as my backpack gun. It takes the same mags and ammo as my Glock which is a plus.
Yeah, that's a good one too.
How’s the recoil on the pc carbine? Compared to 223. I know it’s 9mm and not much recoil. I’ve also heard the blowback carbines have a rough recoil. I want to set one up for my wife and son in a shtf/hd situation. If the recoil is rough though then I’ll just go with 223.
Same. Running fort Scott munitions 👌🏾
@@kfranklin308, the pc carbine has much less recoil than an AR 15. It’s a blowback yet it has features in the bolt that dramatically reduce recoil. Basically if I’m shooing targets closer than 50 yards I use my PC carbine. It has barely more recoil than my Ruger 10 22
@Kevin Franklin It's kind of an apples to oranges comparison because the Ruger is a blowback action, which means you've got a big, heavy bolt moving back and forth and that tends to contribute to felt recoil. I haven't fired the PC Charger, but we have the carbine version and it's more or less the same amount of felt recoil as a 5.56 AR. But it's not nearly as loud and that often makes a huge difference in how enjoyable it is for novice shooters.
The midnight squirrel raid scenario got me giggling. Everyone is having breakfast the next morning when little Susie brings up an armload of assassinated squirrels and pandemonium ensues.
I've bought from you guys several times now and the order always comes within a few days with excellent packaging. Thank you so much for providing ammo during these times.
Like everythi g but their prices.
I'm a gun nerd but also a backpack nerd. *chef's kiss*
That rubber floor mat hack is incredible. Can't believe I hadn't thought of doing that.
Small rectangular garbage buckets and such make WAY better bag supports. They spread out bottom pressure, hold shape for setting the bag down and concealing contents, and can be used as a secondary container when removed from the bag. 👍
More follow ups on this series, and honestly, more videos in general. This is one of the very few channels that I get hyped about every video.
Chris: if you're at work and your Buddy says "hey do you want to settle the American West after shift...?"
You should've done the "Altered Carbon - hello kitty" backpack loadout with the new keltec 5.7 pistol with a brace attached.

Anyway great video as always!
I've got a Glock 19 mounted as a rail attachment. Gun Gun.
@@chubzero7342 incredible! I've thought about getting two 45 degree mounts and going duel Glock 19s on my 300blk! I'll wait for a review tho!
That lever action is beautiful. I don’t need an explanation or excuse to have that. It’s art that has real world application
Sub2000 is the ultimate backpack carbine especially the MCARBO version. There is also suppressed version shipping soon.
100% correct. The only one that is legal to carry almost everywhere. Especially when the compliant version comes out
was just coming down here to mention it. a couple hi cap glock mags and you're set.
Easily my favorite gun. I was hoping he’d bring that up as well
Used to do that, but hated shooting it. Ended up getting a scorpion with folding brace. I love KelTec's innovation but that thing is no fun to shoot which also means less practice. The scorpion doesn't have that quirk. Ymmv.
Edit: I'm also in AZ where almost anything goes.
It’s a great pcc for the money. But unfortunately it’s not for left-handed user like me. The left side mag release is in the way of the trigger finger.
The fact that carrying a rifle in a backpack is questionable legally in some states is the problem to begin with.
Sure, but is that really the second amendment hill you want to die on? We have to choose our battles and that one probably should be pretty far down the list.
@@LuckyGunner Not necessarily but I don’t look at it as a hill to die on. Rather just stick to the basic language of “shall not be infringed”. That’s just a small piece that plays into it. Either way not critiquing you but just the political climate that we have to deal with. Great video review and details. I like the variety.

Definitely gonna use the floor mat idea. And may end up with one of those panels as well.
This Channel is the best! Very informative but not boring AF. Fun to watch but not lacking information we are looking for..
You guys do an incredible job with these videos. Absolutely fantastic work.
This is one of the coolest and most practical videos I have seen in a while. Thank you for your insight on the different options available.
I think a backpack rifle makes absolute sense for anytime you're gonna be isolated or away from your vehicle for an extended period of time, because today's environment is as nuts as I've ever seen it.
Stay alert, stay alive.
I love that Ruger...never really thought about a .22, and that is a damn good idea. Thanks Chris.
There are FEW channels where I will happily watch 32 minutes of video. As always, excellent video and good information. Thank you.
Ah yes a rifle in a backpack, for when......
Fuck it sounded like a great idea at the time!
...you finally cop that dope RV homie** 💪😎
Personally I like the idea of the back pack gun concept and think that it should be as simple and lightweight as posible. Two Kel Tec products come to mind here, the sub2000 as it comes, no red dot, no surefire, etc. and the RDB S bulbpop rifle. The first fits in a laptop bag and you have a 16" barrel PCC and the second fits in a backpack and you have a 16" rifle ready to fire. Both pretty lightweight
AK underfolder and a tennis racquet bag...with a track suit for good measure.
1980s Pimp stylin’. So much better than a pc 10/22 charger.

I'm so glad you did the last bag because I bought the non-sling version for my 14.5" pin/welded build and I was worried. Thanks for the continued awesome content!
I have a 300 blk 9.5 inch AR pistol, glock 19x, shockwave and a 16 inch 5.56 ar
The glock is the most I think I can take around. I can suppressed ar pistol will look like I am going to war.
This is a fun video. We are blessed to have access to this kinda stuff
Well, I live in Bozeman so it's maybe the only place on Earth where every other person has a Mystery Ranch bag.😂😘
300 blk hasn't gone up as much as other calibers around me. I found it more often than more popular ammo.
But it really shines when you reload. It is incredibly versatile.
I run an 8" .300BO with a law folder in a 5.11 AMP72. Also have a lower with a Maxim brace in case I want it "ready to go" without needing to fold it.
Mine is inbound to my FFL! Can’t wait. Although suppression won’t be here till fall 👎
Awesome video!!! Please continue this series !!!
Very thorough - liking these longer multi example reviews!
You're my favorite youtube gun person by far. Thanks for the awesome content!
Another great addition to a backpack gun is a level IIIA ballistic soft panel in the laptop pocket. Sometimes preventing holes is as important as making them.
This is something that I didn’t know I needed but I need it.
Correct.
So chock full of detail. Thank you.
Gosh, I just LOVE this channel! 💙
Sig Sauer MCX Rattler in a Vertx EDC Ready pack 2.0
This was an outstanding video!! Thank you!
Such an amazing channel, keep up the great work.
I recommend the Ruger PC Carbine with the Copper Basin takedown bag. 8 lbs of pure 9mm joy, when you can get ammo. It looks like an ordinary backpack because on the outside, it is. 2 water bottle holders, comfortable straps, a few pockets and the standard leather-ish bottom for durability. No moly or tactical anything on it. And the Ruger PCC is a great little takedown gun that can quickly be assembled and made ready to go. Still not very practical for self defense if you need it right away, but perfect for traveling and camping.
Chris, love the videos! Can we get a video on small ccw optics. You teased it on your shooting at 25 yard vid and I think your audience would love it!
Yeah, someday.
@@LuckyGunner I would also be interested in that, especially since Holosun just released the k series.
Great video Chris as always👍 thank you
Dont even own a gun nor do I plan too. However, I love the compact weapons you see in spy movies and this is right up there! Great video
That lever action is flipping sweet!
I have a charger in a similar configuration. There's a section of picatinny rail that comes with the gun that you can attach with the bipod mount. I then have a streamlight tlr1 that I have mounted to the rail section
Enjoyed your two videos but how about my favorite, the Keltec Sub 2000?
This reminded me to thank you for likely being a contributing factor to the 25+ week lead time for CMMG's bolt and barrel kits :-)
Glad to hear the mention of Demonstrated Concepts strap and technique.
I carry a G19 with a Flux Defense brace, an FGGK-S folding front grip, a Holosun red dot, and a crappy luggage strap sling that clips through the hole behind the mag well. This provides me with an SBR that hangs freely under a jacket and is only a little bigger than a G17. No bag necessary, not hard at all to conceal, deploys in under a second. Much better than a "backpack gun."
I just bought the new Flux Raider and I’m waiting on a guy to start making holsters for it to get it back. Perfect backpack or suit gun that runs anywhere and has virtually zero print. Not sure why it never made the cast for the backpack gun list.
Love this series!!
I did a glock19 in a mck gen2 conversion kit. perfect backpack gun
Great video, there are so many options for backpack guns but the one thing I haven’t seen anyone innovate in is thickness... except for the DBX
Thanks for the hard work
Went with a grand power stribog (8" 9mm pcc) with a folding brace. Fits vertx bag perfect
Awesome video, very interesting. Thanks!
Great video, thanks for doing a followup on this
I love the Chiapppa take down lever gun!!! I want one so bad!
The Mystery Ranch bag looks terrific.
Man, I’ll have what HE’s having for dinner! These are all interesting options, but that 300 BO is the one for me.
I really want that break down lever action. I love the "Urban Cowboy" name you gave it haha.
I picked up a old Prince double tennis racket bag from Goodwill that fits my 11.5” AR pistol with SBA3 brace perfectly. Even has room for my Haley micro chest rig. I use it when I travel more than a days walk from home. Or when the situation is sketchy, like “protests” in the city. As far as being inconspicuous, it’s great. The bag is actually pretty decent quality but I wouldn’t want to lug it far with just the one strap. More of a truck gun bag than anything else for keeping in the truck and carrying it into the hotel.
Oh hey, this ought to be good. Been looking for a new bag too
Shotguns are not drop safe, even with safety on...so don’t carry around with a shell chambered.
Correct.
You'd think someone would make one that is.
@@kirk2767 cruiser carry is usually a good option (hammer down on an empty chamber so you only have to rack it to be ready).
My girlfriend just last month found that out the hard way. Let's just say her kitchen is getting new tile on the floor
Through the years and countless times I’ve dropped a shotgun being on rock moss or wood they’ve never fired.
Very interesting, thanks!
I have a 5" Banshee 9mm w/glock lower, LAW Folder and SBA4 with a dot and light. Folds up nice and fits in my backpack.
You've got to break in a GoRuck bag. They are SO well built that they are pretty stiff when you first get one. So even if someone was borrowing a friend's GoRuck it will most likely be broken in already.
We’ve missed you
Watched Part 1 yesterday and still scratching my head on the rationale for the weird magazine conversion and the non-direct blow-back. These choices seem to fly in the face of the gunfighter’s mantra, “simplify and add lightness”.
The magazine conversion benefits:
1) Your lower can still be used with any other AR upper, no matter the caliber. Think "one lower to rule them all," especially if you only have one SBR'd lower receiver.
2) Standard AR support equipment will work with it, like standard AR chest rigs and magazine pouches.
3) Training carry-over: you reload and manipulate the gun in the exact same way as a typical AR.
The radial-delayed blowback system benefits:
1) Its just as simple and reliable as a typical blowback system.
2) Reduces felt recoil, compared to typical blowback guns, making running the gun mo' betta' during long strings of fire.
3) Go check out the video on the radial-delayed blowback system by Ian at Forgotten Weapons.
Padded backpack style Electric Guitar case is good. If your gun is long, Electric Bass works too. Most of them have a pocket sized for a music book that is well suited to a card with a couple mag pouches on it.
I got a chiappa Alaskan takedown 44 mag 16" threaded barrel, half octagonal, inside a VERTX Gamut 2.0 that fits perfectly. Have it set up with a holosun 507C with the same galco ammo carrier. Vertx bags are so versatile.
Nice! Half octagon barrels are the coolest. Bonus points for threaded half octagon!
Great information!
Kel-Tec fan here. My back pack guns include SUB2000 9mm at 4 lbs, SU16B .223 at 4.5lbs, PF9, 3-AT, and Pack lite barrels on Ruger 22/45's an 8.5" and a 10"! All very light and packable.

your own selected one in part 1 is the best
No shit
I like the shotgun idea! I have two ar15s pistol I use in similar configuration but also have a shockwave with flight control or slugs!
Most knowledgeable guy on UA-cam
I’d throw a red dot and a Dead Air Sandman K on that 9” 300 Blk build. That would even out the weight distribution and possibly lighten it up a bit!!
Yeah I think a little red dot would be better than that LPVO on that setup.
Imo 300blk sbr should be light red dot and if you want 3x magnifier.
Ive tried lpvo on my 7inch and i switched it back to my 556 the same day
SBA3 7.5" 5.56mm, single point sling, 40-round mag, hydraulic buffer, red dot on 1" riser, 1200 lumen flashlight, center fire position with both eyes open
Man some 50 years ago when I went horseback riding I had the best compact rifle inn 22 caliber. For years those squirrels and Rattlehead snakes had no chance with my AR 7 !
my backpack/truck gun is a 4.75" kak barrel chambered for 5.56, with a 10 round mag 30 round in center console, a strike industries pdw brace, fab defense folding grip, and flip up irons. sense its a pistol i can conceal it loaded up front with me in the jeep (michigan laws) it tucks nice in-between the door and seat. all i need now is a light.
great video thanks
Good series. The whole NFA crossing state lines issue makes some of this difficult as well. The state law issues with certain kinds of guns (and possibly pistol brace issues per state and federally) make this whole topic of increased interest to me. Discounting those concerns however, did you look at chassis pistols such as the Recover Tactical or B&T?
my 10.3 300 blackout DD-Mk18 pistol with the law tac folder is perfect for me.
My backpack gun is a Ruger 10/22 takedown with stainless steel furniture fiber optic sights, and the magpul backpacker stock. came with 4 magazines that i keep inside the stock compartment, loaded. Haven't put anything in the waterproof compartment yet. It is threaded and I would like to get a suppressor. I think Ruger makes a suppressor for around 200$ as well.
For a quick EDC/Truck gun I have no problem using the midwest industries chassis on a 10/22, with 6x 25 RD mags, a folding adapter, B5 modular stock on a strike buffer tube, with a 1-4 LPVO and a 45 degree red dot. You just need to be very particular about shot placement. But, I do have military training and and know what it’s like to be in a firefight. Confidence to shoot in high stress environments with different weapons will vary in degree of accuracy with weapon systems you have the most vs the least amount of experience with. So, yes, .22LR can be a very useable round. I’d recommend a defense load such as Hornaday Critical Defense. I think it’s a 46 gr with a but-ton of powder behind it and hollow filled polymer tips.
My back pack gun is a B&T 45 APC PRO. I have a telescoping stock, Steiner tor mini IR laser, surefire Vulcan IR/white light and an RMR. I have dedicated 45 suppressor so it’s nice and quiet. I can reliably hit an 8” gong at 100 yards with no hold over when zeroed at 25 yds. I can also hit a 12 square gong at 200 yards pretty well, the only issue is hold over with an RMR at that distance. If I aimed for the top of the noggin I’d hit them in the junk at that distance so I know it would be useful IF I ever had to take a shot like that, tho I doubt I ever would.
IMO a 7"-9" AR chambered in .300blk and a folding brace would be the best bet. Bringing it down to a pistol caliber defeats a good bit of having a rifle in the first place.
I run a 7in 300blk... Have it put up for now cause ammo costs switched to my 10.5 556... Not that its much cheaper
@@robertsmith8862 yeah a 10.5"-14.5" 5.56 is a good alternative
Depends on the pistol caliber.
@@SaneAsylum going to a pistol caliber will save you a few ounces but will give significantly worse ballistics and power. Not sure what pistol caliber compete with rifle. Maybe if you wanted to shorten the barrel even more a pistol caliber would be a bit more viable?
@@guidedprismg.e.w.p5673 It gives you different energy and ballistics, not worse energy and ballistics. If I shoot something with a 460S&W (or 480/454/500 etc...)with big heavy hard cast and then compare the energy to 5.56 (or 300 blkout) I get more than double the energy with the pistol caliber. Also any reasonable round will not have any problem going several hundred yards on target. So you're left with comparing a not-flat shooting rifle cartridge in a short barrel that follows a rainbow (compared to a long range platform) compared to an extremely similar trajectory from a handgun cartridge that is more than suited to our task. Point being that your position is indefensible. Throw the 5.7 or 7.5 into the mix and even your rainbow starts looking iffy. There are many handgun and many rifle cartridges. The primary benefit of handgun cartridges is their length not weight. Handgun cartridges have and will always be better suited to smaller platforms than rifle cartridges.
The AK has always struck me as a good backpack gun. The AKP and M92 being the first that come to mind. If you do another video it would be interesting to see how you would set up your backpack AK if that is what you choose to carry. Along with the gun but what is a realistic amount of ammo to carry and how would you carry it.
I did a GORUCK Challenge in 2013. As for GORUCK being a cult? Accurate. You're not wrong 🤣
For those who have that 12ga itch to scratch, the Kel Tec KSG is actually shorter than the Tac 13.
