  • Presented by Tim Alderton, Research Technician, JC Raulston Arboretum on September 5, 2023.
Our monocot garden may be tucked away in the furthest possible corner from the entrance to our gardens, but that doesn't mean we don't absolutely love this class of flowering plants! Agaves, lilies, palms, ginger lilies, orchids, bananas, and every variety of grass are just a few of the shining examples of the wonderful plants within this clade. Join us for this Plant-lover's Tour where our Research Technician, Tim, will take you around the Arboretum and show you a few of our favorite monocots planted throughout the JCRA.
    Family list:
    Amarylidaceae (Amaryllis)
    Arecaceae (Palm)
    Araceae (Aroids)
    Asparagaceae (Asparagus)
    Asphodelaceae (Aloe)
    Colchicaceae (Colchicum)
    Commoelidaceae (Dayflower)

    Waste of time!
He fails to mention anything about the hardiness of any of the plants he shows, and more basic info.
Basically, he skips around and says the names of things. That's it.
