I love how Simon is still the courtroom gremlin even after regaining his freedom. Nahyuta insults him on the stand so he decides he's just going to hang out at the defense's bench and needle the hell out of him for the entire rest of the trial. XD

Having Blackquill on the defense is a really fun and cool twist. Unlike everyone else, Blackquill takes none of Nahyuta’s empty threats and religious bull and it’s fun seeing two prosecutors duke it out.
If only we could get them using their attacks on each other.
A twist befitting the twisted samurai
lmao I just noticed that Uendo is sitting on 7 cushions stacked on top of each other at the podium. That means he's kneeling on them while sharing his testimony.
If you aren't familiar with Rakugo, the performers kneel onto a cushion while sharing tales to the audience. Another piece of Uendo's character that fits the performer is that he's equipped with paper fans. While sharing the story to the audience, the performer changes their pitch or tone of voice to depict other characters of the story.
I really enjoyed this case when I played it! It's very humorous.
Meet Uendo Toneido, my favorite witness in not only this game, but in the whole series! I hope you enjoy him and his antics as much as I did :)
Also, Nahyuta being such an insufferable prick makes it all the more satisfying whenever Blackquill strikes back at him!

Uendo Toneido, one of my fav witnesses, Simon and Athena both being great, and the best objection theme in the series, this is why i think this case is so underrated!
I can’t help but feel like Uendo Toneidi is one of the most interesting witnesses in the series, with the next part covering why.
I agree that this case deserves more love than it gets. The plot and characters are both solid, and the banter between Blackquill and Nahyuta is so entertaining.
I know, right?! I can’t wait for Lucah to find out about Uendo’s secret so I can talk about it.
I’m honestly surprised she immediately hit the nail on the head with his character and her different voices.
Simon Blackquill being our assistant makes this case amazing.

Ah, Uendo Toneido. He's pretty much my favorite witness to have on the stand. His theme is excellent, he's got a great personality, and he's really enjoyable overall. He and Simon are definitely the ones carrying this case.
And finally we come to one of my favourite witnesses of all time, Uendo Toneido! He's what makes this case stand out to me. I love Athena's Courtroom Révolutionnaire theme in this game, too. I always think of noodles whenever I hear it, probably because this is the only case you hear it. Speaking of, I've been cooking noodles to eat while watching this episode! Not soba, mind. Just ramen.
Adrian is my pick for the most normal, and probably the most relatable.
Penny Nichols was so normal they wrote jokes around it.
Winston Payne is also normal. Arguably the most grounded guy ever.
Olga Orly is a simple Russian immigrant who's a chef specializing in Russian cousine and a card dealer.
Apart from being a killer, Rooke is a pretty cool bodyguard.
You understood Uendo's gimmick fast and gave each of his three characters very fitting voices. I know you've done some voice acting work in the past and episodes like this one prove it!
I already loved Athena’s Objection theme, _Courtroom Revolutionnaire_ ,when it debuted in Dual Destinies. But this new rendition just takes it to a whole new level
The melody remains the same in both, but DD uses a more mellow instrumentation. Befitting Athena’s melancholic past and her struggle to overcome her immense traumas
But taking the subdued strings of the original melody and replacing them with the emphatic strums of an electric guitar?!
What an inspired decision!
Athena’s grown so much, becoming confident in her own voice; with the strength of her friends behind her. She’s ready to kick ass and take names.
She’s Athena Flipping Cykes and you’re gonna have to deal with it! With an absolute banger of a theme to prove it!
EASILY my favorite objection theme in the entire franchise.
It's a great evolution for her theme.
First game: "I'm new, but I'm gonna do my best!"

Right? She finally has a fitting theme for the only attorney to hits that poor table twice.

Wait... people said this is a bad case? Bro, personally, this is one of my favorite filler cases!
I guess AA fans just glossed over it because its filler, doesnt add to the main story, and has Nahyuta suddenly fly over to Japanifornia when something big was happening in his country, for a case that Klavier could've easily prosecuted, but it's pure gold seeing Simon destroy him.

The only reason Nahyuta is here, when he really doesn’t need to be, as jet lagged and stressed as he already is, is that apparently Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth asked him to.
Convenient reason for the writers to put in, but I actually think there’s a small point to it. Edgeworth probably wanted to keep an eye on Nahyuta after his first trial in America. He likely saw a bit of his young self in Nahyuta, how he was under Von Karma, thinking that Nahyuta is acting as he does due to the culture in Khura’in.
Sorry for the mini essay, this is just a headcanon I’ve had for quite a while, I got excited.
Rakugo artists often have different characters that they perform. They usually just change their voice and have slightly different tilts of their head to denote a different character, but as is usual everything is exaggerated in AA. Also do your best to avoid spoilers!

At first it seems like he did not get what he wanted, but the fact Uendo knows nothing is proof enough that the real culpript only interest was to get Bucky convicted and that there's no reason to find about the meaning of the message (as of yet at least)

This case is actually pretty damn fun when you don't have somebody whispering in your ear the exact opposite. xD
Normal, UwU, and Bayonetta is a perfect description of Uendo's various characters. Also, good job catching on to the different voices he was doing and adjusting accordingly. It takes some people a moment to realize that his voice is changing when he changes sprites.

That first cross-examination really tripped me up when I played. The fact that you have to object with the fact that there wasn't anything in the victim's lungs feels like you're just repeating what was said right before the testimony, since I thought you'd be going for something against the dying message. I was like "We already mentioned this, why was that the answer?"
Goddddd I love Blackquill in this case SO MUCH. Him turning Sad Monk’s shitty tactics against him is so satisfying!!
Also, people often call this case bad because it's a significantly less high stakes case compared to the previous one and the next one; so oftentimes people see this break in the tension built up by the last case as a bad thing. Personally I think it's a good palate cleanser, since the last case was so morose and bitter, and the next case is going to be quite climactic and tense as well. It helps prevent the story from imploding from narm.
I mean, you make it seem like we've not had filler cases before...
Don’t know why people don’t like it, it’s a good case. I swear the only review I’ve seen that likes this case was Wambu’s
I definitely think it's the best filler case in the series. ...I know that's not saying much, considering the infamy of most of the other filler cases, but I like it a lot!
It helps that it doesn't have obnoxious unlikeable characters (aside from Bucky, but he doesn't appear that often) like Turnabout Big Top, it doesn't drag on like Recipe for Turnabout, and it doesn't have an idiotic premise like Turnabout Serenade
It doesn't help that out of all the great characters in this case, the one we're defending is easily the least liked. I don't outright hate Bucky but compared to Uendo and Geiru...
@@PinoyKun32I don't know. Zak Gramarye is arguably the worst defendant ever. Especially considering he let Phoenix present that forged dairy page and left his daughter behind.
Most opposing prosecutors by now have usually done something in court that starts to make the defense and the player begin to like them. Usually by being cross at a witness for lying in their testimony or not opposing an objection the defense has, even when it hurts their case. We’re already this far inti the game and still there hasn’t been any real change in Nahyuta. Even after the last case when he saw what the tragedy their laws caused he still remains no different in his belief, even when he’s seen that no case is so cut and dry when the Wright Anything Agency is involved.
That’s my biggest problem. Nahyuta has a weapon in the form of those beads of his, but they never go to the witnesses. They’ve been whipped by Franziska, and attacked by Simon’s bird & finger. Godot, I can accept not attacking anyone with his coffee, because he’s got a vendetta against Phoenix, and none of the other prosecutors have weapons. Nahyuta though, he’s not extreme enough on witnesses, *_just_* towards the defense.
@@JJ_R And he had Roger Retinz on the stand, one of the scummiest people in the series and was proven early on with the forged contract that he had an axe yo grind with Trucy. Edgeworth wouldn’t let him get away with smearing the good name of his best friend’s adoptive daughter and the second the Ratings Rajah would suggest Franzy star in one of his trashy shows then she’d need a lawyer against the assault charges she end up getting.
That's true, but usually in the cases where the prosecution start "helping out" the defense, the witness is the smart one and needs no help from the prosecution
In these cases it's always the prosecution that asks for conclusive evidence from the defense, when in the first trilogy i'm used to the real culpript on standing asking that from Phoenix
That's true. Not only does he seem to have no qualms about throwing innocent people in jail and death row, but he even seems to think they deserve it too, which as both a holy monk and a prosecutor, is a deeply fucked up mentality to have.
This is the case that made me realize just how incredibly unskilled Nahyuta is a prosecutor, especially in direct comparison to Blackquill. He relies on using fear tactics, public pressure, and upseting comments to get his opponents to back down. He also uses his own personal assumptions as facts to fill the gaps in his narrative even when there's evidence that clearly refutes it. He takes all the evidence and testimony at face value and doesn't consider other possibilities that don't fit the narrative he's trying to spin and causes him to glaze over obvious contradictions. He puts too much on testimony from others and not enough on the evidence itself. As a result, he doesn't come up with strong enough counterclaims to the defense's arguments.
I never felt cornered by Nahyuta's arguments while playing the game, not even during case 3, as that had more to do with circumstances surrounding the case than the actual proposed version of events by the prosecution, which was easy enough to knock down once enough light was shed. Unlike the other prosecutors in the series, Nahyuta doesn't seem to care about the truth. It feels like he just wants easy wins and to throw as many people in jail/death row as possible under the guise of "last rites".
The idea of Simon being reborn as a panda might sound harmless and cute, but it's horrid if you know that all species of panda are extinct. Giant pandas are the only ones that survived, and they are considered an endangered species. That's why you see them in conservation efforts.
Nahyuta knew what he was saying. All of his suggestions are either people being reborn as something insignificant, bound to become prey or slowly die out.
I can see why everyone is saying that this case must have been a nightmare for the localization team. For what it's worth, I think they did pretty good, though that's maybe because I love wordplay and stupid puns.

This is not a joke, this is what I read about this case in an interview:
The Localization Team leader walked to the scenario writer and told him:
"... really? Rakugo?"
To what the scenario writer just answered with a cheeky smile and a:
"Yeeees?"
At this point, I'm absolutely convinced that a part of the team of writers got into the game SPECIFICALLY to troll the translators.
This is why this is my favorite case in this game. Blackquill is going to spend the entire case bullying prosecutor sad monk (you have no idea how hard it was for me to resist calling him that until now) and using his manipulation abilities in your favor. It's so incredibly cathartic to have to have a prosecutor doing their typical bullshit to help you for once.
The "Bayonetta" personality even has the "female sound" for the text ticking, as opposed to the male personalities.
I really appreciate you using different voices when Uendo’s character animations/vibes change.
Uendo is a weird one but he's also one of my favorite one-off characters in the games next to Ron Delite

Question, are we supposed to like Nahyuta at this point? Because I agree that he’s super insufferable. Like Godot and Franny were also super mean to the defense along with physically assaulting him, but even so they were never in the “hateable” category for me. I guess we’ll have to wait for the end of the game to see, but for now he’s probably my least favorite prosecutor 😂

The three normal people in Ace Attorney are Gregory Edgeworth, Winston Payne, and Penny Nichols.
Winston in particular is so utterly average and boring that every time Edgeworth has seen him, he can't remember ever seeing him before, and is shocked to find out that he's a prosecutor who works in the same building as him.
Apollo is also pretty normal in terms of personality, especially on the job, where he always tries to keep things as professional and impersonal as possible (keyword being "tries"), but unfortunately the whole "raised by rebels, grew up with astronauts, has magical telescopic vision" bit cancels it out.
Olga Orly, Deid Mann, Rooke (a "normal" killer), Robert Hammond.
@@neo-didact9285 Olga spends most of her screentime pretending to be Russian. We don't know how normal Deid Mann was because he's, well, dead. Rooke was a peerless badass who is the only known person to ever injure Shelly de Killer (also he was the victim). Hammond forced his client to plead insanity and then keep up the act for 15 years. Not much normal there.

Oh boy howdy do I have feelings about how this all goes down with Uendo. I actually really like a lot of it. Probably most of it. And some of it is absurd, and Athena makes some leaps of logic that do not hold up. But overall he's possibly the best part of this case, besides sharing the bench with Simon.
The witnesses in this case are such a joy to question for me personally! Simon trying to make people unknowingly give in is so cool to watch especially since he’s on our side.

As far as filler cases go, this is one of the better ones. And a big part of that I would say is Uendo Toneido.
Blackquill just being himself also helps.
I personally don't mind this case. I grew really attached to Simon in the last game, and it was nice to play alongside him as an ally this time. Plus, the last case was long and a bit convoluted, so I think this one is a good tonal shift without being too obnoxious.

I’m sure there are, but the sheer amount of weirdos are throwing off my count. The point is that there are _some_ normal people in this crazy, crazy world.
36:45 I can’t speak for anybody else, since I don’t consider this to be the worst Ace Attorney case ever (mine is Turnabout Big Top), but I feel like the reason is that it’s the point where players start to get sick of Nahyuta (if they weren’t already by this point).

I'd have to say Phoenix Wright (the college student) was fairly normal, aside from the coughing and sneezing fits.
I definitely get why people aren't too fond of this case, but Simon really is a gem that makes the whole thing worth it. I could listen to the man snark and mess with people all day.

Most normal people would probably be... lemme think.
Case 1-3: Penny Nichols is just a normal girl. I don't think she ever says something ludicrous or acts unlike a normal teenage girl would (she even has a normalbhobby for her age).
Case 2-4: the only thing abnormal about Adrian Andrews is her infinite supply of glasses. Other than that, her whole demeanor is just how a woman who has suffered as much as she has would act.
Case 4-2: Alita Tiala is just a bad human being. She's just a regular killer, and none of her actions are particularly strange (asides, you know, marrying someone for profit and then killing someone without even being able to see them). She's evil, but she isn't strange.
Also, the Edgeworths are pretty normal as well. Gregory and Miles are just cool and composed boys and aren't strange in any way (except for maybe a Steel Samurai obsession).

This case was so fun. I remember it so fondly and I’m excited to see you keep going!! :D
Between Nahyuta’s implications of the defense being reborn as a stink bug and a sea urchin in the previous trials, I think being reborn as a panda, even a reverse-colored one, wouldn’t be such a bad deal. But yeah, Nahyuta seems more insufferable than even the last two trials, and he considers ‘casting Athena into hell’ as repaying a debt to Phoenix? This is why it’s hard to like Nahyuta: even when we eventually learn more about him, it doesn’t take away from how overbearing and harsh he acts, even with the ‘Khura’in hates lawyers’ rhetoric.
But at least we now get to meet another entertaining witness: Uendo Toneido, a consummate professional when it comes to rakugo. Impressive how a simple change of expression or a readjustment of his ponytail transforms him into other characters.
Pandas are secretly kind of effed up. They starve a lot, cause they only eat bamboo, and it takes a TON of plant to satisfy their caloric intake. They're basically always drunk, once again because of the bamboo diet. And in the case they have twins, they'll just straight-up murder one of the kids.
I’ve honestly took another look at this case and while Yuty is at an all-time worst in this case, with the insults and derision being at peak asshole levels, I honestly think it kinda works.
Athena’s nothing but bravado and confidence, in spite of her logical misfires. Simon will always shut Nayuta down (and I love him for it.) but most importantly, The Judge seems incredibly willing to hear the defense out and their theories.
Yuty acts like a grade A asshole in this case and is massively disrespectful towards Athena but gets run through the wringer in the entire case.
The writers make heavy use of his pissed bead slam animation, which just shows the frustration he’s feeling.
Dude clearly wants to be respected like he is back in Khura’in but NO one is willing to give him preferential treatment beyond that as a standard prosecutor (which he is).
At least for me, that got me to at least somewhat enjoy his presence in this one
honestly i feel like Nahyuta is the shittiest prosecutor in the entire franchise, and the only game i haven't played start to finish is the layton crossover.
@@TheRealChristopherB I understand what you are saying, but for me, Nahyuta just being pissed off and getting disrespected is to little a payoff for all the thrown insults, who are starting to get stale now and the dirty trick to use Athenas super-hearing against her. It's just not enough in comparison for me, not even him getting pummeled by his own beads is cutting it anymore. It should be something more... harsh and personal now, like getting a harsh lection by the judge to stop this bs. (sadly this isn't GAAC-Japan^^)

I also love the fact one of the few times Uendo loses his cool is his rigor mortis joke falling flat for Athena.
UENDO TIME! He is probably my favourite witness in the series, and the perfect witness for Athena (and Simon) to go against where Phoenix and Apollo would fall short. I just wish those two were here to see Athena work this well!

I honestly enjoyed this one. It is set up a bit differently and probably is overshadowed by how brilliant all the cases in this specific game are but I feel it told it's story well enough and an enjoyable one at that. I mean we finally get Athena and Simon working together after everything they went through for each other. I won't go any further with this point though as to not give anything away, sorry if I get repetitive on that point though.

It also makes sense from the rakugo perspective of being a one-man-show, and even though Nahyuta gave a bit of an explanation earlier, this really gave the EXPERIENCE of it and I understood why this would be considered an art form/comedic entertainment far more by seeing him than I did from the text-based definition

As fun as it is to see Blackquill roasting Sad Monk, I think they couldve used this case as a chance to give us Franziska again. It would've been hilarious to find out she came back to face Phoenix Wright once more, only to find he's out of the country so she takes it out on Athena XD Plus Simon and Franzy in the same room? Would've been the best case ever for that alone.
It would also be fun to see Franzy and Athena yell at each other in German.

Klavier isn't German though, he just pretends to be. Kristoph didn't speak a word of German, and Phoenix even calls Klavier's accent 'Europa-affected' instead of plain 'German'.
Uendo is a joy of a character. I really like the idea of a Rakugo Artist witness, leads down an interesting rabbit hole, and of course a lot of stand out interactions.
I'd say this case is GOOD, just kind of... Odd in terms of position and writing. Athena is an amazing character, and I don't really think there's a miss character in this case either... Aside Nahyuta, but his problems span the whole game, so I don't count him.

The way i see it, Nahyuta's beef with Athena isnt just that she's a defense attorney. From his perspective, she's an inexperienced amateur taking on something that she clearly isnt that prepared for. To him, she's making a mockery of the entire ordeal.

This is definitely not a bad case, I mean, it's an Athena case, it has Simon, two of the best witnesses ever and a lot of puns, there's zero complaints from me

Rakugo is hilarious! It is rather similar to what Lucah and other ensemble VAs do, switching character on a dime. There's quite a few here on UA-cam. They're usually only like twenty or so minutes.

Yeah Nahyuta is usually snobby and mean, and I suppose hes only being more mean to Athena for being more inexperienced comapred to Apollo and Phoenix, but hes beyond insufferable in this case.
