This gives a good impression of what the racing was like back in the 1960s when the Fords and Ferraris were on the same circuit as the slower Alpine A210 Renault sports cars. The image starting @2:05 shows what it is like to have a 200 mph - 322 km/h top performance sports car having to pass a car that was at 40 ~ 50 mph -- or -- 64 ~ 81 km/h slower along the Mulsanne straight. And imagine doing that at night!?
A great sound from a great racecar , one of historys most sexy racecars ever ! The roar off the V8 and whine of the gearbox make a perfect harmony , creating one of the greatest carsounds ever , only surpassed by the BRM V16 wich is from another planet .
Just imagine how depressing it would be driving your expensively prepared race car around the circuit and a T70 speeds past as if you were crawling; such a beast.
OMG Jimmy I was On a Boat a Hydro with a Ford Supercharged 427 I was not seatbelted in..........................OMG I WAS SCREAMING TO HIGH HEAVEN MY LIFE IS OVER It is till I Looked over!!!!
That's a really good question. This car clearly has a better (quicker shift) transmission than a period T70 - check out Dario Franchitti's comments in this video ua-cam.com/video/81uMpafSwxo/v-deo.html I also think that the tyres are probably a bit better on this car, and damping technology has also improved massively since the 1960s, so the car in this video most likely has better grip. All-in-all I guess I'm saying this car might be capable of a faster lap than an in-period car.
Add to that that the engine is vastly improved and so is the fuel so potentially more power. What HASN'T changed are the aerodynamics. They are still the 1960s school of 'If it looks right, it is right' school. And at a potential 200+ mph on the Mulsanne, that is going to be the biggest limiting factor.
Even in the '60's racing sports cars (Austin-Healey Sprites on up --so assume this Lola had one too--) had hoop-type Roll Bars: Not a full Roll Cage. Just a "Roll Bar" steel upside-down U shape with reinforcements, across the interior behind the driver's seat. It wouldn't show in this video. (Unless he turned to look behind him, haha.)
I don't recall the Lola T70 being all that successful. It was popular but weren't the 917's killing everyone in the late 60's and early 70's. Then along came the Ferrari 512M and the goal post was moved again.
I'm glad that this is one video that didn't get the silly voice-over or "evocative" music added in. Glorious to just watch and listen.
Exactly ! ! ! Music on sutch vid... like this is like peeing on monalisa
One of my two favorite cars.
1967 Ford GT40 MK IV
1969 Lola T70 MK III
Now that is indeed something very special. Unforgettable machine! Nice drive!
Históricos Lola T70 , Porsche 917, Ferrari 512, Matra v12. One of the most beautiful categories in history

Fantastic and a great save at the end after it popped out of gear!
Love the sound. What a beast.
I like the sound of this car.The builder Eric Broadley was a creator

On the limiter on the straights

Awesome vid, thanks for sharing.
nice introduction to the channel for me
That's really cool...but also very dangerous. Those old racecars are death traps!
No dual clutch gayness needed. Fast shifts!!
Absolutely right bro , untill the box explodes .......
What a pleasure...
God bless American V-8 muscle. 👏👏👏👏
What's the transmission?
That is Sunbeam
He used a Sunbeam 260 Tiger
Top seems a tad under geared.
Definitely needs a few more teeth on that final gear.
Maybe, but gearing within the rules for Classic racing will always be a compromise.
is it me or does that engine have a problem at the top end. it stables
how far off of the historic le mans lap times are these cars going today (accounting for the circuit changes like the chicanes)

Thes were L88 427's
Nice
Could I use parts of this video?
Look up, the door isn't shut all the way.
Jimmy there is way way something about you!!!
Jimmy there is osmething about you !!!
Is there a roll cage that's not obvious to spot somewhere? Or am I just being a bit blind?
Back in the day they didn't care about safety. A roll cage it's just weight.
It doesn't look like it unless it's very well disguised. I think there might be different rules for classic cars though
cicci0salsicci0 I know it wouldn't have had one in period, I'm just surprised they don't retrofit them for classic racing.

I’d like to race a t70
If you got a half a million quid then that become a reality 😂😂. Maybe one day 😁
Jimmy Build a car lightweight and Go Fast Back then we had no Idea of Road Hugging Hydraulics
