Does anyone else remember when the CLA came out the end of 2013 and they made such a big deal about it because it started at $29,999?? I think that price lasted 2 years. Fast forward to now and the base CLA with a few options costs as much as a decently optioned E-Class did in 2013....lol
Put $30k from 2013 into an inflation calculator…. It’s equivalent to $40,500 today. Have you heard of inflation? Everything is more expensive now compared to 2013
Crazy that Mercedes charges you $2000 for the driving assistance package that is standard on a Corolla XSE and my Impreza RS, also, I get adaptive LED headlights, heated seats and windshield standard - all for about $30k
As someone who had a fully trimmed 2018 Kia Optima Ex then getting a 2022 CLA, the overall quality of the car is definitely noticeable. From the weight of the door to the RGB ambient lighting, it’s definitely better. When I got my CLA it started at 38k.
When did Mercedes-Benz start using an 8 speed DCT in the CLA? It used to be a 9 speed automatic transmission. BTW, the CLA competes directly with the 2 series Gran Coupé, not the 3 series.
It has been an 8 speed DCT since about 2019 and was a 7 speed DCT before that. Rear drive Mercedes have had a 9-speed torque converter automatic the past 8 years or so. The FWD drive cars never got the 9G-tronic and that DCT is way jerky, I have a Mercedes with the 7G-Tronic, is way better than that DCT.
@@TYPICALTRYHARD_ that's exactly the point. Not everyone wants or cares about the engine. It might just come down to the look, the brand, the seat, the ride quality, the user experience, infotainment... for some people the engine is the last thing they care about.
Seems appropriate to me. Base model luxury offerings have done similar for years. I remember older 5 series 525 or 528s cost about that and had even less power (and especially torque).
Enjoy that $300ish Service A and $1200 Service B. Got rid of my 2016 CLA for an Elantra hybrid. Yeah, hyundai, but 100% glad I did. The CLA isn’t worth it
We started out with a 15 c300. Then we got a 16 gla45. Traded in the 15 for a 18 c45. We were on 1st name basis with the service advisor, service manager, and the vp of the dealership. We always had the prepaid maintenance and would trade at 50k The dealership ruined Mb for us. We to Cadillac in 2019 and never looked back.
I had an early product, ion E43 that drove me nuts with rattles over our terrible Norther California roads, traded it in for a 2021 E450 coupe that has been perfect. I hate rattles in cars.
I still dont understand the shallow cubby where the touch pad use to be. To small for most phones now a days and to shallow to hold anything taller than a few coins.
They just got lazy. Audi did the same with the Q5 when they dropped the rotary wheel, they left this awkward area for it that's not useable for storing anything. not wide enough, not deep enough.
The CLA is just not worth the money. They fixed a lot of issues from the first generation car, but the refinement isn't there yet. Back in the day the 190E drove, felt, smelled like the 560SEL. I guess it's impossible to do that today. If you're going to get a CLA get a AMG 35. Otherwise get a C300. It does look much better than the first generation and looks good on the road.
When I lived in Germany the car crew I was with had rules. NO THREE SERIES and no C CLASS. These were cars for people who couldn’t afford the brands they wanted to flaunt.
Problem with the CLA is the price, the C-class is barely more money and haven driven both, the C-class is a way better car. The CLA only makes sense if it is about $10k under a C300.
Why would you want a feature like that hidden on the steering column? So you can forget that you have it, and when you need it forget where is located. Nope I want it front and center on my steering wheel.
Definitely overpriced. Too many compromises which end up making the driver who buys this car a wanna be. If you can't afford a better Mercedes Benz then just buy a Honda.

Yup! Sub $30k (even though it was $30k lol) was the big selling point. $46k for this is just comical 🤣
yes its called inflation and corporate greed
These days, you can barely buy a well-equipped Honda Civic with $30k.
Yes! I thought I was the only one. I literally thought the purpose of this was to have an affordable vehicle in their line-up.

$46k for a base CLA is actually comical 😂
Base is $46K? I'd take an Acura TLX any day over this CLA.
I will take Lexus ES 350.
@@Desertbiker617 Good choice!
Yeah thats insanity. When i got my 2022 a base CLA was 38k. 46k got you a 4matic either atleast one package
That blue is fantastic
I hope Lyn is right in her thinking that sedans are making a comeback. It's slim pickings for a sedan shopper these days. Loved the review.
I think you mean BMW 2 series and not 3 series in the competitive set. Hopefully you all can fix the edit ♥️

And you still have a lesser car. Features can be slapped on anything.

DCT is bad
44k for FWD is crazy.
Especially when you realize the BMW 3 Series starts at $44,500 with RWD, more room, and more power.
That base price is way too high and it comes with almost nothing
Ill never understand why manufacturers put sport oriented seats on a basic economy car.
I like how some manufacturers get excuses for build quality and others would have gotten hell for the same issue 🤔 smh
No Lynn. Glossy black plastic doesn’t look better.
paying almost 50k for a 220hp is pathetic
Not everyone is a speed demon.
@@TomCook1993 That's not the point considering I could buy a Lexus with more power

Gods of depreciation got that covered, don't worry

Great video Lyn!
Great review 😊
Recent Merc build quality is NOT an entry level issue.
I just like your reviews Lynn 🇺🇲
Surprised this model is still around, the build quality inside reminds me of a $30k car🙄
That's damn good looking.
Might as well get a base GLA250 with that price, you'll get more carry on and passenger space and better fuel economy
Almost 50k, are they crazy!!!!!
For $50k I would rather get an TLX ASpec SH-AWD
Started out as an introduction car for saying... Yea I own a Mercedes. Not so much anymore @ that starting price 🤑
The Camry is better in every category except looks.
lol no. The tech is not on the same planet.

A $20k car is selling for $50k+ 😂 auto makers are really insulting consumers‘ intelligence
Genesis over this any day of the week.
50k to be adequately satisfied!
I think it looks great! 💙
Hey Lyn, could you do a comparison with this vehicle, the Integra and the 2 Series Gran Coupe?

Keys
@@georgejungle138 Everytime I have put clients keys there while working on a car they rattle during test drives.
Looks terrific but feels like a discount Benz. Not a great value. Get an A3 or a slightly used A4 or 3-Series instead.

This money would buy a Model 3 performance that has a longer warranty, is much much much faster, and more efficient. (the car is pretty though).

Sounds pretentious.. So no M3’s, C63s, or even 330 ZHP/335is, C32/43/55’s?
CLA 250 e 4 matic with 218 hp is the top spec in The Netherlands 😂
No value to be had with this one…or most new Benz these days.
Hi Mike! 😃👋
What happened to Mike Danger? Why don’t we seem him doing reviews anymore?
He just wouldn’t fit into this thing.

True. MB really needs to price this car

Gosh the rear bumperettes look so horrible. This is the Benz for someone who wants to say they drive a Benz :)
Honestly no one will buy this so if you wait til this has been sitting on the lot it’ll be 30K
G70 and 3 series are not this cars competitor. No lexus or genesis equivalent
You won't find one for under 50 at a dealership.
Anyone that buys this is a poser who wants a car with the emblem. Literally might as well by a Mazda 3
Wow. 😂
50k for this shite?
Unbelievable. Buy a two year used E class for same money.
Not even a hybrid
The prices of Mercedes cars in the middle east are out of control, C class starts at $80,000. WTF!
New steering wheel is worse than pre facelift
The rear bumper protusion is hideous….
I will buy VW
You'd think at that price point it would also come with titned windows.
junk

Or a Genesis which has better value, looks, and reliability than any Mercedes.
Vote for Biden and Democrats all the way down those ballots, our democracy depends on it #voteblue
Lol this comment didn’t age well
Telling people to vote for only one party isn’t democracy at all
Also liberalism is a mental illness
Just buy a Genesis. Those cars have more reliability than any Euro*ean car..
this poor lady aged 15 years in the last 3 years. oof
Just get a used real Mercedes Benz for 20k.
