    Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I keep making beaded earrings once in a few years and occasionally completely forget what to do. This was actually extremely easy to follow, I already started making two feather styled earrings that start with a brick pattern and end with lines of beaded tassels. They turn out so much heavier than you'd expect, all those beads really add up.

      Thanks, Margaret! I think the only thing is, is that you would have to start with a long length of ladder stitch and then build on top of it. I really like doing those rings with peyote since you can work with the shorter width and build out, but it is definitely possible both ways. :)

    Excellent tutorial. Easy to follow. To make it easier to see thread work, a lighter or white thread might help me as my eyes have trouble seeing and tracking the flow. Otherwise, great instruction. Many tutorials use beads and thread that blend in which make it hard for seeing construction and work.

    • @ORCHIDandOPAL
      @ORCHIDandOPAL  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Clara! My go-to is 0.006"/6lb fireline. It is very strong, thread-like, doesn't knot as easily as other threads, hardly frays, doesn't stretch (nearly as much) as monofilament fishing line, and doesn't dry-rot. Some beadweavers also really like WildFire, which is similar, but is more of a personal preference thing. Hope that helps!

  • @rachellejune
    @rachellejune 3 роки тому

    I’ve been beading for years, but I was taught to make a knot in the beginning. It always seem to distract from the beaded piece. But you didn’t, and the beads stayed on…..? Have I wasted years on frustration? So I’m going to try this today. (Is there a knot on the end?)

    • @ORCHIDandOPAL
      @ORCHIDandOPAL  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rachelle! A lot of people start their beadwork with a "stop bead," which is a bead loosely knotted at the tail, in order to hold the beadwork in place. If you are using a beading thread like Fireline, though, and have some experience beading, I find that a stop bead really isn't necessary. Again, though, I am very used to keeping my tension while beading, and the beads won't fall off the thread once they begin to be woven in. At the end of my piece I put a needle on the tail thread, and weave/knot in at that point. Hope this helps! 💜💜💜

    I feel really silly right now. In the very beginning of this tutorial, how do you keep the beads from falling off when you do the ladder stitch? We thread our first beads on and start to go back up through the bead, and then it falls off.

    • @ORCHIDandOPAL
      @ORCHIDandOPAL  2 роки тому

      Hi Bethanie! You are more than welcome to use a stop bead. If you leave a tail that's around 6" you should be able to hold the beginning with your fingers, after some practice, without anything falling off. 💜💜💜

    • @ORCHIDandOPAL

  • @janenestmj
    @janenestmj 4 роки тому

    I purchased some black fireline & it leaves a black residue on my fingers. This wasn't much of an issue when I used it on a dark beaded piece but I did a ring that is black on the edges & light pink on the inside. I wanted the black so it wouldn't show on the outer edge but the residue discolored the pink. Do you wash your string first?

    • @ORCHIDandOPAL
      @ORCHIDandOPAL  4 роки тому

      Hi Janene! That's true - It sometimes leaves a black residue on the fingers (annoying), which comes off easily after a wash. I never noticed it discoloring any of my beads, though, and I use it most of the time. That stinks that it discolored your pink beads - wondering if that had something to do with the coating on those beads specifically, or if you were able to wipe it off? Did you know they make a "satin" version of the black fireline that is supposed to have a coating that doesn't leave a residue? I haven't used it yet, but that's what I have heard.

    • @janenestmj
      @janenestmj 4 роки тому

      @@ORCHIDandOPAL maybe because those beads were a matte color??? I found that it washes off after washing my hands on other beads. I'll have to look into the other color. Another difference I've noticed is that it stretches a little & my rings then are too big after a few days. I tried using another fishing line that is more ridged & it doesn't stretch so I've ruled out my weaving tension. I'm still fairly new at weaving so I'm trying to find what works for me & for particular projects.
