- This work is a submission for the 2023 Honkai: Star Rail creator competition. I started working on this when the competition was first announced, and ended up using nearly the full 7 weeks for it, spending ~1 week on an outline, ~5 weeks on arranging/mixing/mastering, and ~1 week for a lot of minor edits/fixes.

I tried sticking reasonably close to the original, in the hopes that people can listen to it as a proxy of the official version (at least until the OST releases lol). But I definitely still added my own touch. Hope you like it!

This has to be an underrated gem. I can't stop listening to this music at all, especially the parts where Thundering Chariot, Jing Yuan's theme music and A Flash comes to play.

The transitions were soo smooth and satisfying to listen to. As an Erhu enjoyer I love how you featured it here too! And yes I'm also one of the people who would love to see a full version of "A Flash" in the future xD got chills from the very beginning, it really was breathtaking. Glad to have the reinforced interest in A Flash as well - it makes it more likely that I'll want to work on that, as long as I can manage to make out the music behind the dialogue/sound FX in the animated short haha.

The opening and the transition between melodies are so beautiful, giving listeners a sense of flashbacks of the most beautiful memories buried in Xianzhou's history, yet everything has passed and faded away. Great work!♥

Thanks, glad you liked that section! I used Ample China Erhu here, and the tone is really great! Though, it felt tough to mix in the A Flash section, and it feels more like a programmer's rather than performer's library (not that that bothers me since I program everything, even though I'm a pianist lol).

@@thejasonpai582 Been meaning to ask, as I keep coming back to this video (more views for you I guess, haha) as the mix here is solid, what's your process for mixing, specifically reverbs and how you route or bus them etc (especially since your mixing libraries)? Do you use multiple reverb sends with different depths for early reflections and then glue with a tail reverb, or do you have a different approach?
5 weeks arranging/mixing/mastering so this was definitely a labour of love, but I'd say it paid off!
Hey @jackalos1, appreciate your questions! :D Glad you liked the mix!
Specifically for reverbs, I'm almost exclusively using LiquidSonic's Seventh Heaven Reverb at the moment (mainly because I read Mitsunori Aizawa prefers the Bricasti M7 reverb, so I just ran with it). I use the Pro version, but I admit the non-Pro version should be just fine. If you find something else you like, there's nothing wrong with that though.
I usually use Large and Near setting (e.g. this medley, my Genshin medley: ua-cam.com/video/n-zzZpQ5DCI/v-deo.html ), or sometimes a Chamber setting if I want something closer sounding (e.g. my Octopath cover: ua-cam.com/video/-8Yi6UmV2Fo/v-deo.html), particularly on my Strings bus. I actually often don't use any reverb on Brass.
I usually use reverb as a Send when I'm planning to automate it or if it's on a bus - e.g. this is what I do with my Strings bus. I don't like using reverb as an Insert on my String bus, because I feel like automating the reverb in this setup changes the volume of the Strings too drastically, when really I just want to change how 'reverberant' the sound depending on the context within a track. I do use reverb as an Insert more commonly on individual instruments or when I don't plan to automate it, since it feels streamlined and it's also easier for me to deal with volume changes on individual instruments.
Related to the above, sometimes when instruments feel super dry or mono and aren't mixing well, I try putting on Seventh Heaven's Studio A setting, which can really help.
On my Genshin medley, I think I ran a subtle Fabfilter Pro-R reverb for 'glue' on my master, but honestly not sure if it did too much, so not sure I'll continue doing it (I didn't in this track). I've definitely heard about using a different reverb for Early Reflections and Late Reflections/Tail, though I haven't gotten around to investigating it in detail to see if I like it.
Also, not that this is reverb related, but for mixing I've gotten a lot of use out of Panagement (got on sale for $12 lol), which helps with perceived distance of instruments. Adjusting stereo width with the free Ozone Imager also can help, as can EQing (e.g. random example - consider cutting low frequencies from the Side for your electric bass).
I could definitely go on, but that's the gist of what I do for reverbs, and happy to discuss anything else too! Anyway, thanks for continuing to come back to this track! :D

It's almost done! I'd say like 95% there, just minor tweaks left, and then have to make the video haha. I can guarantee I'll release it between 9/30-10/6 at the latest! Will do my best to release it on the earlier side of that estimate
Can you please make a long version of Myriad Celestia - The Erudition? That part is so ethereal it's sooo gooddd. While the official ones feels present, yours gave off futuristic vibe, which suit Nous best.

Thank you! That section was definitely challenging for me, since working with synth is one of my weak points - but glad it worked for you! Hmm the original Erudition-specific section is pretty short, and I combined it with the Abundance and Nihility sections. Not sure I could make an Erudition long version, but I could consider a full cover of Myriad Celestia at some point :)

I tried recreate the erudition part too since it's too short but im having trouble with the first part, i guess it's a mix of violin synth and viola? Never take music classes so im having hard time guessing the sounds😂

Then yea it sounds like a solo violin, a lot of synth work, and electronic drums - very much not my strong suit hahaa. But one of the synth pings (the one that sounds kinda like a sonar radar, or morse code lol) I made out of a celeste with some effects processing on it. 😅

Yea that's a good idea! I could see them going well together, though I specifically didn't do any crossovers in this medley since it was for a Star Rail contest :)

Sorry, I'm definitely working on it, though I got some new instruments so it's taking me some extra time to learn them. Hoping it'll be worth it though - the tone will probably be pretty different from this version. Still intending to finish by end of this month, or at latest before Jingliu releases, as previously mentioned! 😅 I'd say it's roughly half done

Ahh that's part of the Jingyuan Trailer theme as well - I liked that part of the original a lot, so admittedly I kind of forced it into my medley... but I don't regret it! 😬
