- Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi is a South African lawyer, public speaker, author and political activist. He is a member of the South African Law Reform Commission. Ngcukaitobi has authored the book "The Land Is Ours: South Africa's First Black Lawyers and the birth of Constitution.

I'm a Kenyan, but my all time favourite lawyer is Ngcukaitobi Tembeka.
What's your thoughts on PLO Lumumba?
I am an second Year LL.B student in University of Kwazulu-Natal, and i am reading this in 2024. What a great lecture by Prof. i am very inspired.
I think what makes Prof. Ngcukaitobi a great lawyer is that he is relaxed and eloquent with his natural African accent. He doesn't focus on faking any accent, instead he focuses on what he wants to say.

Lol, but Adv we still study under difficult conditions, for example myself I studied my llb degree while staying in a squatter camp, no electricity, no water ect and used train from home to library everyday, get home late and tired. Lol, this things still happen

I'm listening to this in January 2024.and I find myself crying at what black people went through during apartheid.
In the meantime, Winnie Mandela was the 1st MEDICAL Social Worker in South Africa, she graduated FIRST in her year (1953) at the Jan Hofmeyr School of Social Work. FIRST as in she topped both the black and WHITE students!
Yes uMangutyana was the first Black Medical Social Worker from Hofmeyer School of SW in Johannesburg.

So he finished his LLB degree in the 80s but was serving articles & articles Clark in the 50s ? 🤔
He did say that back then you didn’t need an LLB to serve articles, a BA was also sufficient.
An explanation to this effect was provided
So Mandela was superhuman he could pick up rocks and study.

I can say that in whole lecture, your attitude towards Mandela's legacy is more dominant than the legacy of Mandela as a lawyer itself,if you get what I mean.

Even with more than 5 cases and appearance before magistrates representing his clients from Mandela & Tambo legal practice? For there to be context in delivering a subject matter, the grassroots of the subject including the person matter.
Remember, Mr. Mandela did not practice for a long time as a lawyer due to his involvement in Politics and his subsequent incarceration to Robin Island.
compare the timeline and tell us what he could have done with that, if you get what i mean. Its just a primary addition problem really not complex.
What i don't understand is that Mandela did not die so long ago. All these books and stories should've been written while he was alive, so to get a clear, accurate information from the horses mouth.

I'm disappointed in Thembeka for participating in this lecture. What he has done in my view is to legitimize the academic record of Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela suffered horribly in the hands of apartheid. That academic record cannot be a truthful reflection of Mandela's intellect. Today we know those students who express views that are disliked by the WMC are failed.
That's why its called a lecture you take what you want to take.
Please re-watch this again I feel you missed the whole point. He was actually pointing out that reseliance is more valuable,even when faced with hard times, you can still come out on top, if you have a clear and concise goal. Like Nelson Mandela did.
But he did articulate why he failed and demonstrated that on his letter of appeal.
How about a lecture on Mandela as a terrorist., communist and advising on sabotage and bombing of innocent woman and children. Far excaading his brief spell as practicing law
