Good overview of the camera. Well done. I've had the X3 for about a month now. Was originally planning to use the Rhode mic, but after some digging, found a mount for the DJI wireless mic. The mount is laser printed by Awkrad and makes the receiver completely invisible. The other accessory that I use is the Insta360 invisible powered selfie stick. It triples record time and includes power and record controls on the handle (very handy). One downside of the X3 that's never mentioned in reviews, is that it stops recording every 29 minutes to switch output files. It continues recording automatically, but you lose 10-20 seconds during the file switch. This gap won't be a problem for most users, but for some it'll be significant. I mount the camera on a sailboat to record races. In last week's race, the gap happened during a critical maneuver.
@@TomWadeCine Can't really comment on the onboard mic since the camera is mounted where it gets blasted by the wind. I also bought the remote control to get GPS telemetry data. It works fine, but because of the file switch, you can't create a single track for a session that lasts over 29 minutes. The workaround is to use another gps source without time limitations and export the .gpx file,
The main reason i got this camera was for VFX shots, it easily captures HDRI to help match color and lighting and reflections of 3d objects on live footage. I also use it a lot to get some dynamic shots there are harder to the get the traditional way, ex: Crane shots, barrel roll shots, and my favorite the indoor Drone shot! I have to agree with you, the lowlight capabilities leave a lot to be desired especially when you have to keep the shutter speed high to avoid motion blur, but when the conditions are right, it’s awesome. It’s a specialty camera for sure, small enough to keep in the bag.
Complimenti! Una delle migliori recensioni sulla insta360 X3, giusta ed imparziale! 👍 Se continui così credo che il tuo canale UA-cam crescerà molto. Ciao 👋👋
Thanks for the review. I'm deciding on this camera to augment my "real" cameras because the 360 action looks really cool. I'm not expecting as much as you are perhaps because I'm an engineer and realize the sensor and processor tradeoffs the small size/portability impose on this type of camera. Your videos look great and when you stand back and look at the totality of the shots, very few will notice the small imperfections that you mention. They will be focused on the shots with a person walking in a small sphere. And if viewed on a small screen, such as a phone, the resolution of the phone will as much a detriment to clarity/sharpness/color/etc. as the camera itself. I'm not expecting the same type of photo or video as I would in my much more expensive full-frame mirrorless DSLR. Lots of great info. Thanks again.
Thank you for the exciting reviews....i got one a few months ago n enjoy using while traveling. Just shoot 1st n edit it later. Watching from Malaysia...🙏🙏🙏
Nice, I didn’t know they made a cage for it! I might buy it and ad a light on top, probably also make a 3d printed cold shoe extension to keep it as small as possible where you had the Rhode.
Endless possibilities. The cage rocks. I want to buy the underwater cage as well for a trip I’m planning. I heard without it the stitching is really bad. Can’t wait to shoot more travel vlogs!
The cage can be in the frame if it's a bit crooked (it can tilt somewhat before you tighten the cage door), so always check when you put it on. I have had couple times where it's a bit crooked and you can see black line on the stitch line aka ruined shot.
Excellent honest review, not many are brave enough to say the truth. My concern is for such expensive camera the picture and video quality should be at the level of DJI and Gopro but unfortunately their technology is not there yet.. I will wait for the X4 and hopefully quality will be improved by then... For now I keep my DJI osmo action 1 that shoots much better video and pictures than x3.
For me, the cage adds accessories like cold shoes and the ability to use go pro attachments without limiting the original function. Thanks for watching
I wish someone would put A.I. internal/external audio sync. It isn't a pain to do in desktop but man, just dropping the rode wireless audio that was recorded on the device into the insta360 app and just having it synced would be awesome. All software for these action cam companies should do this. The audio is getting better but it will never be as good as external audio.
Hi. Thanks for the very useful video. I wanted to check my recording in the camera. I swiped right and pressed on my video, but instead I got message saying - "Please check this file using the app". Would you know why is it there and how can I change it to be able seeing my video on the unit? Thanks.
@@TomWadeCine Hi. I tried in 4k and 5.7k and it worked! One more question: is it possible to switch from fish-eye recording to a normal one in 360 mode?
nice review, thanks. It's a bit unfair to compare a 360 camera to a smartphone, as a phone will use 4k resolution for a fraction of what a 360 camera must cover...
Thanks, The iphone comparison is mainly to showcase if the juice is worth the squeeze for those who are looking for something more than the average camera phone.
why not the rs 1 inch? I am seriously debating the two. Are you editing on your phone or studio app? I'm not sure why your panning transitions are so juddery compared to other insta users. But footage does not look bad over all, especially in decent daylight!
The 1 inch was too expensive for what I intended this to be and a personal choice. The image was not much better. Overall, Insta360 need to improve the image quality on all their products. I edited on the computer with no added stabilization to show the pros and cons
The delay should only be in camera. The footage, at least for me, was ok and did not have a delay. I think the camera has a processing issue but the recordings to the card are unaffected. Have you downloaded the footage? Do you still hear a delay?
I'm finding the camera will occasionally become hung while recording or just completely shut off. Seems like a 1 in 20 chance. So far support has not helped and I'm missing great shots. Also saw the camera reset itself to defaults at one point on my trip. They need to fix this camera! It's not stable!
@@TomWadeCine I've a friend with one as well. He's also seeing the same problems. Support has only said they will fix it in a future firmware update. That's a pretty worthless promise though. They have the money. I have a bad camera.
It does seem like for your use case which is vlogging, you'd be better off with the pocket 3. Can't quite believe that image looks so bad compared to other youtubers.
The official 360 metal case isn't even a perfect fit. I had it for motorcycle in case i strike it at the corners. But over time, the vibrations and wind were wedging the camera out. I look down periodically to make sure the camera is still filming. Only to find an empty frame, where the camera fell out a few miles behind in thick traffic.
Because this is a companion camera review. The camera on your phone is always on you. Does it make sense to even buy the X3. Otherwise, I’ll just stick to my iPhone and Sony A7S3. What makes the X3 worth it, is the fact that you can shoot first and reframe later. Helping you focus on getting the moment. Thanks for watching.

Awkrad DJI mic mount is the best available for the X3 hands down!

Fellow insta360 x3 creator , I had a delay in the audio and it turned out to be the card. Got a different card and it was fine.
Thanks! I’ll try a different card
Which card ?
I didn’t notice a delay in the audio in the video.
Thank you for the review and showing the accessories you purchased. I too bought the Zeadio "hand pod" which has worked great.

Log looked to magenta, standard seems to be the most natural, hdr wasn't bad either 😊
How did you like vivid. I find log for the Insta360 cameras a bit different to grade compared to my higher end camera or log 3.
@@TomWadeCine vivid is always a bit to much, I think that's the same for most cameras,

Not as durable as go pro. Screen and lens is a bit fragile
