Ive just gotten into woodworking as I got commissioned to make something I quickly realized I didn't have the skills to make. Your videos have been a great help and woodworking is quickly becoming a passion of mine. I just flattened the top of my new workbench I am making out of scavengeged lumber. I was able to tune and sharpen a harbor freight hand plane to take really nice shavings and its been doing everything I need for now. And for anyone reading this comment. You really do have to start from where you are. I have very little time or money to put into this craft, but I have shop space available to me that others would envy. Your journey is going to be different than anyone else's, whoever you are. But you really do just need to get your hands on some materials and the tools that are available and get to work learning them.
Just got my Compass Rose Dovetail Square in the mail today (with free hand tool hero!) and love the fit, finish, and feel of it. Can't wait to use it on my next project.
Thanks for teaching me these things. I don’t have a dad who cared about spending quality time with me. Had to teach myself a lot, and these videos help
I definitely see the value of this tool, but I'm not going to lie, Rex flailing his combination square on the end of a board like that is getting really close to infomercial territory :D
I love your channel, even though I don't have the space in my life to be doing woodworking, I love learning about it anyway. Coming up with new ideas and products to solve common problems and then manufacturing and marketing them is a whole different game than making educative and interesting videos, but you seem to have hit the bullseye twice! Love to see it
Now THAT is a tool I am willing to buy. Everything you have done before is useful and practical, but this square is the first item that I really feel is something that I need to have to take my work to the next level. Keep going in that direction, high quality innovative tools for the hand tool woodworker.
That's a beautiful little piece of engineering. Your "commercial" had one of the best layout tutorials I've seen, and was entertaining all the way through even though I'm not necessarily the customer for this product. Love it.
I am not a customer for this product, but I love it when a woodworker come up with better tools, alone in their basement without the help of any Research & Development lab. Solving problems for everyone else by combining YEARS of frustration and thinking. This Dovetail Square packs so many features! And precision machined, made in USA too. Well done.
*THANK YOU!*, Mr. Krueger! I've got the Vise Block (1st run) & I don't even have a workbench yet! Now I've got to get the Dovetail Square as soon as I get the bucks. And I've never even tried to cut "dovetails" yet. I did try this unusual woodworking joint that consists of a large bowtie-shaped piece (double-ended dovetail?, |>
Fun fact: In a paper that was published earlier this year, the authors showed that the two Liriodendron species (tulip poplar and a close relative, native to China), have microstructural characteristics that are sort of in between those of “normal” hardwoods and softwoods. So far, it appears that these are the only two species for which this is true, but other trees in the magnolia family might also share these characteristics. So I guess that means you’re going to need to make a square with an in-between angle just for tulip poplar….
Rex, I would love to see you develop a juicer or a vegetable chopper, just so I can see the infomercial. You are a delight and I love to see you succeed
I really like that the surfaces that matter, the ones you'll be marking, are on the inside and mostly protected from dings and drops. Better than the butterfly in many ways.
I love more ways to do dovetails! I'm always trying to cram them into my work when I can, I've gotten to the point of resenting having to use glue or other fasteners.
Hard to beat, I made mine thicker so I can lay out in one move. Made a huge difference in time and much simpler to use. They can be tricky to get perfect though.

Mr. Krueger, thank you for what you do. I bought your book Everyday Woodworking. Nicey, nicey. I made your Roman workbench. As a twist on your design, I used the Beall woodthreading system to make 4 of 1-1/2" "bolts" (2 each) to fasten the 2 battens to the 2 X 6's. For legs, I put 1-1/2" threads on the ends of the 4 hardwood dowels. They go thru the battens and into the angled tap threaded 2 X 6 holes. It's truely portable with the threads in the parts. It was a challenge to make the angled leg holes with the 1-1/2" wood tap. It's not perfect, but I fumbled my way through it.
