    Nice build. We put a junkyard 400 and turbo 400 in my buddies. It didn't take long and he broke the rear. We got a 14 bolt from the junkyard. Had it narrowed to fit. No issues after that. Even with the 200hp shot of nitrous. It was running a 7.9 in the 1/8 mile.

      chud327 hey man, I'm building me a truck for my first vehicle. I had a ton of questions to ask you if u don't mind helping me out. Was the transmission Manual? If it is/was what shifter did you use or was it already on the truck? I don't know much about the s10 but do they all have the one legger rearend? And my last question is do I have to relocate the gas tank when I put a muffler on the truck or no? Thanks for you help in advanced.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  6 років тому

      Sorry, just seeing your questions. 1st - Mine was an automatic, but I used to have a 5 speed blazer with a 4.3. The V8 will bolt right up to where the 4.3 was. The rear ends are most likely going to be one leggers from the factory. If you do dual exhaust on one side, the tank can stay. I have done it both ways, but I prefer to leave the stock tank in the truck. I hope this helps and is not too late, thanks for watching.

    hey a quick tip on bleeding your brakes,,next time your at auto zone buy you a a foot or so of wind shield wiper washer hose or some of the very small gas line that will cup over the end of the bleeder screw and hand to the ground or into a bottle and you can save the mess of it srpaying all over your rear housing and brake dust covers,,also if you can have someone to help you use a short enough piece of hose and let the end go down into a bottle of brake fluid and all you have to do is pump the brakes and release and it will take the air out,,long as the level in the bottle is above the hose it want let air get back in but requires the bottle to be close to the wheel cylinder.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  9 років тому

      snowmangsx1100 I used to have one that had a short hose and a magnet on it, but I don't know what happened to it. I should make up another and make a video. I am on the edge of bleeding the brakes on my dune buggy project. I'll try to build another bleeder device for that.

What you described is what I would have done if I were no doing mine on such a tight budget. I went with a cheap 307 and my turbo350 was a left over from a previous project. 350 and 700r4 would have made my build much better! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions that pop up... this one is my favorite movie of all of them... this is the one I watch daily. I have found the 94-2000 s10 blazer has the tank in the right location for dual exhaust as well as the filler neck is on the drivers side. I am seriously considering that route when the weather gets better and now that I have a job I can afford some of the good things..what are the mufflers that you have on this truck, I like the sound. 69 camero looks good, but I am partial to the 15 inch z28. I have had 4 s10 in my life and all of them get the z28 rims

    • @chud327
      @chud327  8 років тому +1

      Wow, you watch it every day, you deserve a big thanks. Have you entered my Swiss Army knife giveaway yet? It would be super nice if a real fan won it. I think all the Blazers had the tank in the back, which is perfect for the dual exhaust. I had Flowmasters, but I don't know what series they were. I have loves S-10 with the Z/28 wheels too, It is a great and inexpensive way to make the truck look so good. I have had, I think, 14 S-10s in my time. That is if I haven't forgotten about one or two... Please keep watching it, that is some of the best news I have heard all day. Definitely the best comment of the day and maybe even the week. I can't wait to get my next S-10 project, I'll be sure to make some videos! BTW, I am working on a video that has some of all my old vehicles, currently there are 10 of my S-10 in that video...

      When they are closed do they leak exhaust into the cab from under the truck?

    • @chud327
      @chud327  8 років тому +2

      +Gavin Cayan There are a lot of variables that you have to know. Do you already have a truck? Do you already have the V8 engine? If you have either, you should be able to do it for 2K. Summitracing.com sells V8 swap kits for $500 - $600 and they have pretty much every thing you need but a radiator. If you look on Craigslist you can probably find an engine for $500. Did your truck come with the 4.3, if so you can use the stock transmission. If not you are going to need 2 or 3 hundred to get you a trans. Like you said, 2K could probably get it running and then put more money into it every couple of weeks to finish it up. I would think it would work. I want to see some videos when you get it done.

    What exact gas tank did you use because I'd like to do the same setup? Not a fan of a fuel cell on a street vehicle. I have the engine and trans already in, but I plan on adding vortec heads and a bigger cam soon, as well as a Edelbrock carb, the holley is fouling my plugs and giving me terrible gas milage on a stock 307. Thanks for the video and it was entertaining to watch.

    Chud, i'm not old enough to drive yet, but am strongly considering an S10. I have three questions. 1. How much did the whole project cost? The only thing I don't like about the truck is the 4 cylinder engine. 2. Was the effort worth it? 3. Was any fabricating or metal work done to fit the V8? I know the truck is little and probably doesn't need a large engine. But it's just so much cooler in my opinion. Thanks for a reply.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  9 років тому

      Brody Tunnell I've had S-10 with 4, 6, and 8 cylinders. If the original engine runs fine, I would change it. The 4 cylinder is not as cool as a V8, but it is much better on gas. The last truck I built had a blown up engine when I bought it. It was 2 truck bodies and a bunch of parts for $200. I could not turn that down. Then the build only cost me $600 just because I had a bunch of the part in my garage left over from other project. If you had nothing, it would probably take $3-5000. That is depending on how much you do to it and how nice it is, some people spend over $10,000, but I am not one of those people. To fit the V8in the S-10 all you need are special motor mounts and they are $69-$99, depending on which engine the truck came with. Then you'll bolt everything else on. It was worth the effort to my because I love working on stuff. And no the small truck doesn't need a V8, but it sure is nice, fun, cool, sound good, easy to work on, fast, great resale value, etc... If you don't want to do all the work, get one with the 4.3 V6. The Vortex 4.3's are a great engine. They last for ever and can be really fast. Or do what I did with my first V8 S-10. Some guy did all the work for me and then he got tired of the truck. I traded my stock 4X4 Chevy for his V8 S-10 plus he paid me $17,000. Now my truck was much newer and nicer, but I was selling it anyway. Hope this helps and start working on it now for when you turn driving age...

    There's another easy way to check to see if a rear axle is open or posi is by jacking the rear end up so the tires r off the ground, put in neutral and spin one of the tires by hand, if they both turn the same way its posi, and if they turn separate ways it's open... And u mite wanna put a different air cleaner on cuz that stock one will cost u horsepower... Just a couple tips that mite u or others... Thanks for showing your build, looks like a fun little truck

They are more expensive to start with, but in the long run, I believe it would be less expensive to own and operate. The LS's have a ton of power too... Did the 3:42 rear end drop your highway mph and rpm? And by how much? My 3:73 and turbo 350 scream 3000 r.p.m. at 55. And what gear locker set and part numbers please! Also I seen your motor mount plates were cut and you used the top hole, so did you have any issues with that being lowered into the frame? Like hitting the oil pan or fuel pump? I just drilled out my mount holes and it gave me 1/2 inch more clearance for my headers and stuff just didn't wanna go to low to sit the oil pan on the frame. Man you're a top mechanical engineer!

    • @chud327
      @chud327  5 років тому +1

      I never got mine on the highway enough to test it, some one bought it before I got tag and insurance on it. However, when I went to 3.42, that was high than what it came with. It should have raised top speed and lowered rpm's. I don't know the locker numbers, it came in the rear end when I bought it. I know it was made by Richmond. I had no issues with oil pan, fuel pump, exhaust, or anything hitting. Thanks so much for watching and I hope this helps.

      CrackpotPuma I didn't use the wiring harness on this build. I ran a hot wire to my distributor and I had a push button for the starter. I left all the original wires and was going to hook up the ignition and gauges and whatnot, but I sold the truck before I got to it. On my V8 in a 4X4 S-10 Blazer, I had the key to start it and all of the gauges in the dash worked. I just depends on how much time you spend on putting it together. I recommend have every thing work like stock. Please ask any other questions and make us a build video. Hope this helped.

    thanks for making the video. I like the dual exhaust idea you had and moving the gas tank. I know you said it was a VW tank, but what vehicle model and year did it come from? thanks for taking the time to share what you learned. id like to do the gas tank swap to mine when I do the v8 swap next month.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  7 років тому +1

      Thanks you so much, I love making videos. As for the tank, I used a VW Beetle tank. The year of the bug is unknown, but it has to be one from a 1969 to about a 1972, those are the year bugs I had. However, I had a Blazer tank that I could have used. It would probably have worked better because of the electric fuel pump. Keep me updated on how you build is going and be sure to ask if you have any questions.

      @@chud327 I got a 91 4.3 sonoma automatic, regular cab. Wanting to put in a v8. Can I keep factory frame mounts and is transmission mount going to need moved? Also, what is a good posi rear end that would bolt right up in mine? Mine is 308 open wheel.... Wanting a posi... I just realized this thread is 8yrs old. Lol, hope this message finds you doing well and I hear from you soon. Thanks

    • @chud327
      @chud327  11 місяців тому

      @@JoeJones-qg3de I think you can use the 4.3 mounts and the trans mount might work too. Just double check some how I could be wrong. I had a Camaro posi in one of mi e, but the should be other factory ones that work. I had a newer blazer with a factory locker, you might just change the whole rear end out. 8 years don’t matter, S-10s are still my weakness. Just put out a LT1swapped S-10 a little over a year ago, hope you will check that video out too.

      Mine was a one wire alternator, you just run the wire from the alternator to the positive battery post. If your's in not a one wire, I don't know how to tell you to do it. Good luck.

Loved the 100 times part and have you seen my latest S-10 V8 swap Z/28 budget build. I make my old one look bad and has really gotten great views and feedback. I would love to hear what you think and feel free to watch it 20 times. Maybe not 100 because it is 44 minutes long. Thanks for the update and planning to check you channel out now.

    Hea Chud. I just seen this video. What did you get your locker out of. I like them, kinda weird the first time you feel one out lock in and out in the corners. Great video man, yeah..like I mentioned in the other video, I'm looking for a posi swap for that 93. So, I can't believe you sold it after all that wrenching. On to the next project, I guess. Oh, your motor mounts, who makes them? Thanks Chud, Goose.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  9 років тому +1

      +PantyPirate OK Goose, don't rub it in that I sold it. Just like pretty much everything else I sell, I start regretting it as it is going down the driveway for the last time. That locker was a richmond that someone else had installed and I got the whole rear end for the low price of $150. I thought it must have been broke, but I risked it and loved it. And you're right, on to the next project. Right now I am build a tiny house, have you seen that series yet? But I am keeping my eyes open for my next S-10 project. I love those little trucks! The motor mounts came out of a parts Blazer that a friend gave me, I don't know who makes them. You can find them on summitracing.com, jeg.com, jagsthatrun.org, etc. I had a different S-10 with a V8 that I picked up from my neighbor through some trading. He put a posi rear end chunk out of some Camaro or Firebird. He did it himself, I have never done a rear end before. I think I have already deleted that video, it was old and poor quality. Thanks again and let me know when you get it done.

    • @Redeemed427
      @Redeemed427 9 років тому +1

      +chud327 , thanks friend. I will get to your tiny house video's. I will keep you posted on the progress, that's so funny Chud, cause I haven't done a rear end yet either, but I see it happening pretty soon. I know, I'll get a Camera on it. It's pretty easy to figure stuff out with youtube. If you don't break new ground, how do you know you can't do it. Never be afraid to fail, cause that just means you had the courage to face new challenges.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  9 років тому

      was putting a 4.3 in my s10, but decided to turbo the 2.8 after the bottom end is rebuilt. I was using a 1-1/4 holesaw and the frame chewed the teeth up everytime.

      @chud327  9 років тому +1
