God bless the O’Connor family from Sacramento California, dragged me to a new riders/Grateful Dead concert back in 1976. My brother-in-law, who was supposed to be born in 1840, and just happened to be born in 1950… Taught me all those old fiddle tunes like Arkansas traveler, soldier, joy… And I am still a Bluegrass, Country, Northern California hippie music fanatic!
The culottes tell of the time, for sure. Love Riders. Takes me back to the old Mexican shake; stems and seeds. I probably wouldn't be here if the reefer was as powerful then as it is today. I remember making brownies for an Alice Cooper concert in the Denver coliseum in 1971 while this was playing on the ole FM.
Over 50 years! Thats way to long my friend! Music is life and songs like that remind you to not take too seriously. Im thinking what else havent you heard in a while. Do your self a favor and look some of those up. It’ll only make you smile ☮️
I do listen to music everyday and I listen to the new riders at night when I watch t.v.i put on the closed captioning and listen to my playlist which includes seger the new riders the dead the doors the B52s van Morrison and the kinks so I am never without music also lots of Tom Petty also have Sirius XM in my vehicle so I always have music on everyday 🇺🇸🦅🌞🎶🎸🎸
I'm 72 can't remember what I did yesterday but still remember seeing the new riders and John Lee Hooker at the Lebanon Valley Speedway only time I ever saw them but will never forget that night great music and fantastic weed 🌞🎶🎸🎵👏
I love Jerry Jeff's version of this Ray Wiley Hubbard cosmic cowboy classic. However, the NRPS version is my favorite, for the simple reason of "E is for Einsteins Theory of Relativity". I have heard people say "E is for Enema, E is for Egalitarian, E is for Eggs etc,,," but this one takes the cake. Cosmic Cowboys indeed!
Just because of this kind of music. Still my sons sons sons love the AMERICAN Country Music! Very very a lot of very much ! Long Live the Country Music!
WOW, I'm getting an education just listening to this song. I didn't know it was written by Ray Wylie Hubbard. And covered by NRPS & Jerry Jeff Walker. It was also covered by a great Colorado band by the name of String Cheese Incident, which is where I heard it first. Thanx for posting this.
BTW, Jeff Walker my have the most popular version of all covers, but this is possibly one of the most covered songs of all time, particularly live. It goes way back. Im sorry, i dont mean to make fun but i hope you didn’t think it was a string cheese song cause if you did , well thats pretty funny! Peace brotha!
@@shmoopdogg7984 Actually upon hearing it done ✅ by SCI for the first time, I thought 💭 it was. They could have written it if it wasn’t done by anybody else. They are a great 👍 band. But as it turns out to be a great 👍 cover too. Thanx for your post.
@@oreokookie1000 ...thats what i always liked about NRPS, you could tell they were enjoying themselves!!! Whether it was in front of 150,000 people at Englishtown Raceway in New Jersey or 500 people at the Stanhope House. You could tell they loved playing. AND THOSE NUDIE SUITS!!! Love love love THEM! Buddy looks the best and I always had the major hots for him.. Plus he's the premiere pedal steel player in the world. Sorry so long, just love NRPS so much. Glad I could help u with the "goat ropers need love, too" line. Been a fan since I was 13, 'bout 44 years now. Happy NRP-in, dude!
Remember the NRPS were founded by Jerry Garcia David Nelson (singing here) and John Dawson Yep, David Nelson is still alive and cranking out great jams with the David Nelson Band. DNB is a cross of NRPS Meets Grateful Dead with mostly original songs written by David or Robert Hunter and a handful of covers for the fun of it.
sister song to "dim-lights thick smoke!"....they bust the laidies balls in that song too!!!!...this time its the doggone Mother!!!.......san- fransiskey-ayeee
Saw Ray at 2222 Starbucks in Austin not long back. Damn, he's so cool. And I second the question: who is that 17 foot tall, beautiful black woman? What a costume, what a presence.
As a fan I gotta say that I have major respect for our very own Jerry Garcia doing the steel guitar, my asshole knows who you are!!! Aaaaaand I love you all for it!!! Peace peoples!!!@

Ealstaff beer. LOL The chick singers and steel guitar send it over the top. Great number.

Haven't heard this song in over 50 years but I must say it's still a classic great vocals and perfect steel guitar

I saw them at S.U N.Y. New Paltz in an electrical storm that you couldn't see in front of your face from the parking lot across the street.

When i die and go to heaven. I will sing with the new riders of the purple sage.
Look for Marmaduke, he will smoke a joint with you.
I first heard this song on That 70s Show about 20 years ago.....the Jerry Jeff version.
I just love this band. Saw David last week. Adore. 2-24.

Saw String Cheese Incident on a rock and roll cruise a number of years ago
@@danarudgers3975 Would have liked to be there, sounds like a great show.
SCI imo is the only band to "get it" after the Jerry died. I've only seen them a handful of times in the past 20 years, but holy hell do they deliver.

Ray Wiley Hubbard wrote this song about his trip to Oklahoma. I now live in Oklahoma, and get a kick out of Okies singing along. They LOVE it!
Actually it's about Red River. Ray Wylie told the story here.. ua-cam.com/video/E24C4NY0ga8/v-deo.htmlsi=ygOkojX9AV3DoWCN
Buddy freakin' Cage!
He's got a gun rack and a "goat ropers need love, too" sticker. My favorite line in any song.
thanks, man..had no clue what that line was

panheadchick1212 Yeah, are they nudie's? thought so, gram parsons always rocked them....yeah those stanhope house shows were great- caught a few
It's was a pain in the ass growing up in England precisely for this reason-God bless NRPS !
I always laughed at E is for Einstein’s theory of relativity....the absurdity of it appeals to my little hippy soul.
Wow how things have changed No more having fun today.
Yup people are stupid today
I got to work with them in the late 80s in Maine.
I giggle!!! They censor out kickin' hippie's ASSES and raisin' hell..... Too funny!
beautiful, love the all back up singer, great soulful voice
Don Kirschner's Rock Concert TV show 1975
My favorite song and music video of all time!
A classic. The refrain runs through my brain frequently.
Their suits are sparkly!
Hey Skip Battin! Far out!
Lov this Great Memories still on album.
That clip looks like Don Kirchner's Rock Concert.
Wow! New Riders fucking rule.
great song

Wow Garcia had a lot of projects going on. Old and In The Way was another.
When was this video shot?
So f--king good!!!

Wow...it's just that simple!
They have some NRPS at the Internet Archive website.

Awesome!!
Party song!
Yes a Ray song... and JJ made it popular.. did not know Nicolette died
Classic. 😃✌
That girl looks nothing like Nicolette. Where did that come from?
This song keeps me out of bars!!!
is the one black mama 8 foot tall or what?
Put the pipe down Ryan it'll all go normal in an hour.
Naw she's like 4 ft 6 look again
👍🏻
that is certainly not Nicolette Larson.
As a fan I gotta say that I have major respect for our very own Jerry Garcia doing the steel guitar, my asshole knows who you are!!!

I guess they had to clean it up to make it family friendly. The original lyrics were "just kicking hippies' ASSES and raising hell"!
Why did they censor the lyrics of the chorus to leave out the hippies' hineys? Were they performing for school children?
LOL That bassist totally reminds me of Will Forte, and every time I see him I laugh.
You can’t tell from that particular song…but he was one incredible bass player.. check him out on Eight miles High when he was in the Byrds
Skip Battin, who was also in the Byrds and Flying Burrito Bros.
Is that Skip Battin on bass...
Yes it is
yes it is, he's my cousin!
Nudie suits and genuine cowgirl backup...cooler than grits! Hoyt Axton? Nah!
Av a j an listen
Skip in there too niiice yea looks like a TV deal early 70's
Likely when they released Oh What a Mighty Time, '75/'76.
Betty Lou Thelma Liz
Jerry Jeff Walker
Yes Sir
Armadillo World Headquarters

Joey diaz sent me here😂😭
H is for Haggard
Ray Wylie made a good life from this song
Better than Jerry Jeff walker. No disrespect Jerry you still fuckin rule
It's tongue in cheek fun. But I'm not sure whose point of view the singer is taking.
those nudie suits
Sounds like a episode of the Squidbillies.
What’s so wrong with the phrase “ kickin’ hippies ass & raisen hell”
???
Gutherie esk
Original is best.
Too hilly billy.
this set up is just wrong for the worst song ever written!
Well then maybe you would like "lady sniff" by the butthole surfers
Well, I liked it!
REDNECK !!
This totally sucks!
At 3:00 AM...you get the Call..."Mama?"
