Nice, still have this on the shelf waiting for the spring, looks awesome! And nerds are what makes the world turn.
For sure!!! Viva Nerds ;)
But winter isn’t a problem I flew mine up here in northern Canada and one day it was even -27C with a 15km/h wind. I love this wing wagon!!
I am glad I am a nerd, I can afford all the TOYS! I win!
Sounds like a jet. Fun to watch too fast for this old man. You do provide a lot more information than any other UA-camr.
Thanks Tim! I think ALL the other guys could squeeze into my intro - LOL - not necessarially a good thing, but so long as some people are enjoying the experience, we'll keep putting on the show ;)
Thanks again Tim!
I can confirm it is a very good first EDF. I've had mine for about a year, and it is really solid
Oh yeah!!!
Those $5 snap ring pliers from Harbor Freight make separating the battery connections a breeze, a must have for ofp's
Have you ever accidentally shorted out a pack?
@@BrianPhillipsRC not with the pliers, the connector wires fall free leaving the pack in your hand
You could do what I did with my Viper for some serious throws: 150 rates on all primary surfaces, longer servo arms, and innermost holes on the control horns.
Sure, but I feel like I got plenty now ;) This plane is great!
Just picked this up as a 1st EDF and just building up the courage to take it up. Been looking killer hanging on the wall of my sons room for the last few days...
You can do it! Give yourself lots of room for takeoff and landing if you're in SAFE, but otherwise, it's fairly easy to fly.
Great video. Thanks and special thanks to camera crew.
Thank YOU Norm!
Brian I’m a big fan! Your videos are very thorough and help tremendously. Thank you. I have two F15 eagles and the first one went south real quick. Really! I started off in safe then switched safe off and it immediately went directly south and wouldn’t recover after flipping safe switch back on and nose dived directly into the corn field. I’ll eventually try again with the other one when the wind settles. I have flown the umx citation so this is my second jet. Thanks again for all your great content. Take care ✌🏼
One tip, try to test SAFE when you're on the ground. If the thing corrects weird in a level condition, it'll do it in flight too.
Believe me, I'd had similar things happen to me too...I turned SAFE on just for a test and crashed into my neighbors roof with my Apprentice 1.5m that I had for all of ONE FLIGHT - SOOOOO Annoying....
I learned that I was initiating SAFE with the plane out of level - I was training the receiver to think upside-down and sideways a bit was LEVEL...so when I turned it on I was totally caught off guard ;(
It's fixed now and flying again, and haven't done that again since :) - I've crashed, but not that SAME way ;)
Good luck! Glad we could help you some, and we have thousands more videos where that came from, so hope you'll stick around for a while!
This is EXACTLY what happened to me! I had to look and see if I'd written the comment and forgot.
Ditto, brand new BNF, took off in safe and flipped it off and she pointed straight down!
I bought a new one recently and I never flip it into safe.
Another guy I know had the exact same thing happen. He sent the parts to HH and they couldn't find anything wrong, they sent him a new plane and I bought it from him for $150. It had been flown once.
Now I have a blast with the F15 but I test safe way up high!
Just bought one used but not flown. Love your mod for a rudder. I'm constantly throwing rudder input then realizing it isn't there. Thanks for these videos! They're extremely helpful.
Awesome! Watch out for trees - LOL ;)
Nice takeoff! I was worried about it getting up using the whole runway, then you only use part of the runway and get up no problem! This was my very first EDF! I liked it best without the gear. Thanks for the great video Brian AND camera crew!
Totally true with the gear, and extra throw on the elevator makes a big difference, but better would be a slightly FORWARD main gear attachment point - it would roll MORE like the real deal, BUT totally forgivable as it's fun and easy to fly, unless a pesky tree jumps out from NOWHERE about 34 years ago. LOL
This is a really fun jet to fly! I’ve been using mine to help teach my son how to fly jets, and with safe on and about half throttle, it’s very controllable and he feels comfortable just cruising around 😎
Another awesome video thanks again Brian and camera crew...
Thanks Johnny!
i have the FMS F-15 and it is super fun and fast like yours. Besides your very good piloting skills, your depth perception must be phenomenal to bring this plane, in particular, weaving under the wires and around the house and trees and landing on the aircraft carrier sidewalk you call a landing strip! everytime i watch you fly, i envy your flying field right outside your front door!
Thanks! My vision is better now that it was most of my life, as I was wearing the bottom of the range in the contact lenses that I had until I got Lasic Plus....for decades they told me I was a bad candidate...but I wasn't a bad candidate. Here we are, three procedures late 1) Initial Surgery 2) Touch up Surgery 3) Lift the flap on one eye and scrape off the skin cells that were growing in my line of sight (one of the several potential complications...it was not super fun, but took 5 minutes and seems to have worked perfectly)...Even with the complication I experienced on the touch up surgery, I'd do it again...but I'm still pissed that they told me I was a bad candidate for something like 20 years!!! I could have saved thousands and thousands of dollars on contacts and glasses over the years.
Flying here is a joy, and part of the way we can even DO this channel. We're fortunate to be able to afford land and the driveway we put in here, but there's an even bigger picture coming at some point - it's gonna be awesome!!! Hope you'll be around to see it with us ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC your younger than Me but I had radio keratomy (before lasik) on One eye. It was good until my 50s and then near and far vision changed so now I have to use a contact in that eye( wish there was long term studies before I did it. Hopefully the lasik long term is better than what I had.
Just finished putting together the f-15, thanks again for the link, also picked up the stand. I am going to leave the elevator in the middle hole and do my maiden like that. I also copied the expo settings. With the real flight trainer the f-16 80mm tbird goes into high alpha ALOT easier than this one. After seeing the new Viper, I now want both planes next . We have a pretty big RC airfield close by with a long and wide strip for jets and zero obstacles for about 50 acres. The RC park also is on the knife edge website Markham Park Airfield. They even set the wind settings. It usually has a south to north gulf wind hitting it. You would be bored at this airfield hahaha, nothing to hit LOL! Also the 4s habu is faster(by 9mph) according to the software. This looks and feels faster IF in fact it is going slower. The habu flies like its floating around though, easier for a beginner.
Awesome! I'd love to fly there - 50 acres is good size!
Brian and CameraCrew, great video! Enjoyable even. Brian, there's a video out there, for this plane, that shows you can get more steering by turning the servo around and shortening the control rod. It might help with the rudder+ a new video. AirHammer out!! PS the other, cool paint, F-15 is it's exact twin, infact, the original.
Thanks! I'll take a look at this with the rudder (steering) servo as you suggested - Thanks!
Outstanding save there Brian. Great flying and video work as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
Kudos to the camera crew. Brian, I salute you as you have the most patient RC wife on this earth. Most of our "better halves" are RC widows. Not yours though.
LOL - Very nice!
Camera crews never get enough credit! Great 👍 shots! It is really hard keeping those jets in focus.
Sup Brian. Glad to see your second thoughts on this jet. Went out and flew mine yesterday.
You're welcome Will! I want to go fly it too, but it's like 30 MPH winds right now...and cross wind ;(
This is a fun plane and sounds cool. The only thing I miss is longer flying time but you proved one could actually go for at least 4-5 min without having it fall out of the sky! I also have cracks in the landing gear plastic covers and it's to bad these can't be purchased separately. I think you have to get a whole fuse for that or just cut some piece yourself.
I wonder if it's worth throwing in some retracts.... Probably too heavy
@@BrianPhillipsRC Maybe not. Keep it simple is often best. I might cut some plates from metal instead.
You're not a nerd. A nerd has a plastic pocket protector and tape holding his glasses together at the bridge. You are a geek. Being an RC geek is a good thing.
Exactly!!! I agree ;)
I don’t understand why everyone who does RC stuff is labeled as a “nerd” or a “geek”. I think that there are at least a few RC pilots (or drivers) that are actually very “cool”
@@aerospacematt9147 Well that's the thing, Matt. Geeks are cool! Without geeks you would still be sitting in a chair in the corner of your house just to talk on the phone. Now you can communicate with others from any where. Thank a geek! If it wasn't for a geek you would still have to stop at the gas station for a road map to travel to locations you have never been. Now you have an annoying voice on your dash guiding you. Thank a geek! Without geeks you would still be flying your model airplane with a handle and two strings and be restricted to flying in circles. How fun would that be? Thank a geek! I could go on and on but you get the point. Signed: retired geek from Montana. 😁
@@baeschler Absolutely, geeks have changed the world for the better! However, according to Google a geek is “an unfashionable or socially inept person.” That sounds like a negative connotation to me. I don’t understand why a lot of people who fly RC aircraft are referred to as geeks by that definition. Personally, I fly for the enjoyment factor, since I have a keen interest in aviation and I hope to fly manned aircraft in the future. I don’t think you can call people like Chuck Yeager, Joe Walker, Scott Crossfield, or Neil Armstrong “Geeks”
Hope to maiden mine tomorrow! Been nervous as I have the f 16 too and that thing was like a lawn dart out of the box. Needed a ton of up elevator correction. First time I flew it I ran out of trim adjustment and it still just wanted to dive. Trying to land a edf at full throttle to keep it from diving is something to see but luckily I was over one of our farm fields and had plenty of room, only casualty was a broken nose cone. But been told the f15 is much better out of the box🤷♂️, we'll see! Great video as always!
This plane is SOOOOO much easier to fly than the F-16 from what I understand!
Might want to do the middle or inside hole for the elevator though, fyi ;)
I have a freewing f 18 super hornet but I don’t have the skills or space to fly it. I will have some videos in vr of my attempts at taking it off the grounds and taxiing it around in a parking lot. I don’t know how you do it. Your flying is epic!
Thanks Marco! You can do it. Keep at it. It's not an over-night thing....but with loads of practice and some good luck, you'll be there in a few short years.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks 🙏 really appreciate the support! There may also be a factor of me not setting up the remote properly as a newbie. I bought the bind and fly... rookie mistake... feels like I may not have proper throttle control. At the moment the best I am able to do is run it like a super fast rc car 🚗 in the parking lot.
I added inboard flaps on mine.Just like you instructed on that high wing. It works great. Slows it way down . So not much role out. Not bad for my first rdf. I'm adding rudders next. Oh plus take off. It rotates in half the distance. I did do flaperons first but decided to do flaps.
I laughed hard when you tried to land in safe and couldn't navigate that last second turn to the runway, causing you to bring it right over your head. You played that off well.
SAFE isn't always SAFE - LOL ;)
I smashed up my Eachine F-18. It was amazing for about about 2 weeks then it just stopped hand launching and the 3rd failed attempt finished it off. So now I'm planning on getting one of these. Flying it for a bit then I'll paint it the "Strike Eagle" Gun-Metal Grey colour. I also plan to use the LED lights from a UMX Turbo Timber on this F-18. I think they will stretch to the wingtips. The battery compartment inside of these looks very busy though.
Yes!
I'm sure I watch your vids for the humor as much as for the tips thanks you guys
Thanks Seth! We're glad you're here with us!
I bought that for my first EDF. I had issues with the ground handling also. I put softer tires on it and that made a huge difference. My only other issue is the short flight time. Other than that, it is a blast to fly. Mine too was eaten by a tree once, thought I'd through that in there so you wouldn't lonely.. lol
She lived to see another day - AWESOME! Softer tires - humm...seems like something the MFG's could have installed in the first place???? ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I never understood why they put those hard tires on planes to begin with, I always change them out
You get even less elevator throw when flying in safe. I got my elevator in the middle hole and could not get off the ground taking off in safe (on grass). I'll change to the inside hole and try tomorrow. Thanks for your expertise again. I love the F-15. Military have ordered 8 of the new F-15EX from McD Douglas. Would love to see Eflite release a 90mm F-15EX with retracts, flaps and rudder!!!
The SAFE System will accommodate for your hole pick ;) Since it limits your actual plane's PITCH, not just the elevator servo's position, you'll find that your plane might "snap" into an attitude a bit faster with the inner holes, but it'll pretty much not "allowed" to exceed the pitch setting. Also, the plane might "over-shoot" pitch angles worse, if you do this.
NOW, AS3X - you're golden. You can pick another hole for more control authority...and AS3X won't undermine your control inputs. This might cause oscillation at high speeds, so you might consider moving your CG back a bit (make the plane a little bit more tail heavy - move the pack back to the tail end) and this will improve your elevator authority for better (or worse - if worse, increase EXPO on elevator axis)
Yeah I miss my old F-15. I guess I need to get another one!
It's super fun...If I lost mine, say if I crashed it into a tree on the maiden flight - it would be missed ;) LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRC You and me both. Mine crashed into a tree on its 6th flight! Ever since you have started calling the spot in your flying field the “Eagle killing zone”, I have been calling the spot on my field the “Eagle Crashing Zone” LOL
Got mine a few days ago. First edf and I think I made the right choice. Went together relatively easily and I'm Quickly picking up on difference in flight characteristics.
My only gripe is the stock nose gear configuration..it's very limited and barely turns left or right..I tried rearranging the servo with no luck. I can turn enough to Navigate takeoff-landing but that's about it.
Yeah, the nose gear can be a pain... Have you tried adjusting where the linkage to the steering mechanics meets the servo control horn? If it's too short, you can often times lengthen it with another control horn laid upside down, or just swap out the horn for another, if you have any lying around from a more unfortunate plane ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I haven't got that far yet but I actually do have a few lying around! ( Ive way too much into this for being into flying for only 5 months, bug bit me hard!) Huge tip right there! Thank you again for being so kind to reply. Of all the youtuber pilots doing reviews (love them all) I find you to be the most personable. I always hit your channel FIRST, and your humor is spot on..
With my luck and honestly just how this hobby works, I'll have a rough landing- crash and somehow it will magically open up the turning radius LOL seriously though Sub for life thanks for all you do!
Thanks, Brian and the Camera crew. Advice on afterburner, please
Great video as always. We have this jet and will go ahead and try some of your mods, they make good sense. When I was in USAF pilot training and flying the T-38, a supersonic trainer, we would touchdown and then pull the nose up, conducting a maneuver called aerobraking, making sure the mains remained on the runway. Your F-15 has a scale, supersonic wing and wants to aerobrake, especially now that you modified it with much greater elevator authority and a good CG. I don’t have your skill, but I’d love to see you come in at a slightly steeper approach angle, slower speed, higher alpha, and then try to aerobrake in the flare and after touchdown (full up elevator). If you can perfect that, I suspect you’ll have a much shorter roll out. Thoughts? Obviously this is much harder to do from the ground than if you were sitting in the cockpit, so good luck there. We also have the Habu STS 70 mm with the landing assist module and I’m shocked at how slow that bird will fly itself in for landing, adding just a quick burst of throttle just before touchdown. When I fly the STS in experienced mode, there is just no way I’m comfortable coming in that slow, but landing assist does teach me something different regarding the flight characteristics of that model. We really enjoy your videos because you test the flight limits, especially of the higher performance airframes. Thanks so much.
You're right about everything you said, but it is quite difficult to keep the nose up and use the aerobreak, since the ground speed is insufficient to overwhelm the drag and the wheels on this plane are back, BEHIND the CG pretty significant. Some rc planes, you can do this no problem, but on this particular F15, it'll basically sucks down to the ground when you touch the mains down ;(...
I can tell you that the Futura, for example did a great job of flaring on landings. I've also had many other planes that will flare down the runway, but you have to really work the CG JUST RIGHT to make the plane pivot on the mains like that.
Glad you fixed it! Mine is a mandatory flyer everytime I go to the field. I know you want to put flaps on it but I would love to see a rudder instead.
I guess I should have watched the whole video haha. Creative.
I would like to install flaps on this beauty too, but when I crash them right away I have a hard time spending a ton of time on this type of mod.
Thanks for testing the different C ratings for this jet. Any performance boost on the 50C or 100C? You mentioned briefly you didn't notice a difference. Was there any difference, like even a little?
I can't honestly tell on this plane. I CAN tell on the 70mm and 80mm F-16's for example, but when the plane doesn't "need" more power, I can usually just tell when the pack doesn't get QUITE as hot, or maybe it doesn't puff when I expected it might have otherwise.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for the reply, I'll go with the 30C packs on the 64mm. What about the 70mm and 80mm F-16's? What C rating do you recommend for both of those?
Cool rudder modification, but I wonder how much if any negative effect it might have in a cross wind? Great video as usual...because of your extremely talented camera crew.
Of minimal consequence, since it'll help to counter the vertical stabilizers ;)
Eagle Killing Zone 2: Electric Boogaloo
Interesting....
Awesome plane Defiantly passes the durability test lol Great vid as always guy's
You got that right!
God I love your guys channel so much. Camera crew knows you too well when she knows that you were not going to land the first time. And if you crash the F 15 in the vampire killings on that would make a vampire Eagle correct LOL?
LOL - The Vampire Killing Eagle zone??? I need to come up with some more clear naming systems - LOL!!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC no I love the systems you have.
I like how your wife aka (camera crew) takes an interest in your hobby. Does she also fly with you?? If she does fly with you she’s a keeper most spouses wouldn’t give that hobby the time of day.
She does not fly, but she is very supportive of me in this significant time commitment.
@@BrianPhillipsRC You got that right Brian, you are a lucky man. I love your farm it’s beautiful.
Great flying & video I never got this edf I wanted an edf with retracts I'm stubborn too Brian lol my 2nd after the Habu was an F-16 Thunderbirds love it tho my favorite to fly is the A-10 64mm Thunderbolt ll that edf has the wow factor I was looking for & my 3rd edf 😉👍🛩
Awesome! I Agree about retracts for jets, but this plane is FUN! So fast and easy all wrapped up in a small, easy to transport, and cheap to fly (Small packs)...so it makes a great plane for a beginner. It is beautiful in it's own right, but I want some of these RC manufactures to make "invisible" landing gear on these jets. Still can't figure out why they can't just use a LARGE (30gram) servo to retract simple main gear and a single "retract" for steerable nose gear. It'd keep the weight AND COST down. I also think it's a sin to offer these beauties without flaps...but this planes makes up for it in it's ability to thrill and amaze without either retracts or flaps :) I've been at odds with the MFG's for years on this, and I don't know that I'll win this battle ;( Oh well - love it anyway!!!!
Haha, Brian, please please show us your skill on transmitter gimbals. Wait for that day.
Thanks for the request Yang Cao, buy you might be disappointed - It's nothing too exciting ;)
Brian i got reverse thrust to work with safe on my ultimate and my air tractor after throwing a 60 amp avian in it on my nx6👍
Nice!!! Very cool!
Hey Brian. Fan for a few months. I have this jet and just want to ask if u recommend just finding an open area with a nice flat surface instead of a club for RC flying.
Club flying is always the best option, if you can make it happen, and if the club comes with nice people who will encourage you as a pilot, and not discourage you as a new pilot.
There are some important legal advantages of flying at the club, but large, opened areas in Class G airspace are generally no-problemo, since there aren't airplanes at low level to worry about, except crop dusters ;)
I broke down and ordered it today for my bday lol. It will be my 5th plane and second edf.
Nice! Watch out for trees - LOL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC ill try not to let a tree jump up and smack it out of the sky.lol!
Ive got 2 of those jets cause their so awesome so i only fly them with a slight head wind and a touch of nose up alpha to slow down the landings. On a calm day your best to just remove the gear n land in the grass instead.
The Smart Checker (XBC100) is the single best buy I've done in this hobby. :)
It is a GREAT tool, and a GREAT value!
Brian you did a fantastic job on flying the F15, but I have another question if you have done a video on the NX transmitters yet? 🤔
On the NX6? Yes - it was WITH the P-51D 1.2m, and ironically, we did the NX8 on the P-51D 1.2m that we're about to publish in the next few days. Hope you'll check it out.
NX6 vs NX8 is discussed a lot, even though there's not a lot of differences.
Hi Brian does adjusting the hole position on the control horns mess with the Safe settings ?
Thanks Regards Clive
IT CAN, but in this case the issue you'll have is the OVER correction in FULL SPEED, you may experience an OSCILLATION, where the plane pumps up and down at full or near full speed....this was not present, so I think we're good!
Started this habit, I mean hobby a little less than a year ago. Have flown the Aeroscout (first plane), Eflite Spitfire, T-28 and RV-7( which struggled with landing). But looking at my first EDF. Would you recommend this one as the first?
You might be ready for the Viper 70mm or F-16 70mm
Are you out of SAFE most of the time?
F15 bit.ly/30RrnlG - good safe choice, but might be a bit boring for you
F16 bit.ly/3bUUxXv - 70mm NOT 80mm...you probably aren't ready for the 80mmm yet...but WAY nicer ;)
Viper bit.ly/3eLqcMX - Amazing choice at 70mm, but 90mm is kinda in a different price class...
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you. I did order the Eflite F-15 64mm. I’m out of safe a lot now. But not all the time.
You can glue a 2 inch plastic tab on the front wheel and it pushes the nose left r right
Isn't that what we did in the video...
It's easier to put the battery in if you flip it upside down, Smoother surface and helps clearance. I put my battery back just a touch more than you. Totaled one, second is healthy. Gotta try the rudder trick Thanks!
Thanks Kurt! I'll give that a try!
4:55 Did he just skip off the snow pile...lol
I don't actually think so...but it was close. I watched about 5 times, but can't see any sign of actual contact. It's not impossible...but I don't think so in this case.
Already learned so much from your Channel. Helped me with the Umx turbo timber (1st plane) now Witt my new Maule m7 and have this f15 on the way.
Advice a 30c or 50c 2200 4s? And why?
Thanks again!
Get as high a C-rating as you can tolerate paying for for this and any EDF jet. You'll puff them, even if you're being "nice" on a lot of planes, but this F-15 isn't bad. Sme TWIN 50's and TWIN 70's will just EAT flight packs for breakfast...even with 50C + ratings.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for your reply! Im returning to the hobby. Last pack I used was a 7.2 volt NiMH 😂 learning a lot from your video’s. Keep up the good work team!
As a first jet wouldn't the lack of rudder make it hard to line up the runway and also lead to bad habits? Trying them out in the simulator I almost think the Viper would be better.
Viper is AWESOME, and we'll be re-reviewing it again in a few weeks, if all goes to plan, BUT no the Viper has more complexity, requires WAY more expensive lipos, and retracts are NOT forgiving, even with reasonably GOOD landings...so we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, but we can agree that they're both great planes!!!
I think the Habu is WWWWWWAAAAAAYYYYYY better as a beginner plane, but you have to get over the "looks" first - maybe paper bag it?!?!?! LOL
Good day, quick question...with this plane the manual says to set the throttle to --130?????? I know how but it baffles me as to WHY you do this and WHAT it actually does. Does it give you more throttle or in laymens term more juice on the top end??
Will I even notice this adjustment or is it something in the RX that just needs to be.
Thanks in advance.
No, it's all about where the ESC STARTS up.... I've tried to explain in detail WHY I don't like this, and for good reason... The planes where they tell us to do this, I've had more than ONE START RUNNING when we reboot out of Forward Programming.
I've also had a few do the same WHEN they call for -130% so I just try to do whatever they say in the manual.
It's got to do with the STARTUP procedure...not anything with speed or power, in this case.
She's fast Brian 😱
Yeah, fast, but controllable, and slows down pretty good for landings....but long rollout for a small plane ;)
Have you tested any larger packs for this plane? 2600-3k 4s pack would be nice for a little extra flight time.
I haven't. Sorry Jesse. These EDF's will kill you on CG with bigger packs, so just be careful you get it to balance out, but otherwise she's got plenty of thrust to handle some more weight.
@@BrianPhillipsRC its almost like its begging for flaps to add some tail weight to balance the bigger batt pack up front.
@@Deathbyredbull did u try a bigger pack? The shop gave me a 2900 4s at 257g I just hope I can get the CG set up with it.
@@M4rkmcc21 no, the 4s 2200 are cheapest and abundantly availability batt size so I just bought a bunch of them.
@@Deathbyredbull massive shortage of that size here in the UK. Will try ordering some from abroad if this battery ends up being too big/heavy. Cheers
Hey Brian, I am an avid fan. I had a question and did not know how to contact you directly. I just noticed HH's new E-Flite Draco 2.0M. It is an exact scale copy using 3D imaging of Mike Patey's Draco designed full scale plane. The new RC plane has just been released and it sold out it's first shipment. Backorder now proposed for a April 2021 delivery. From HH's new promotional videos it looks gorgeous and has great flying characteristics. Will you be doing your routine unboxing, flying and reviewing this amazing new plane? It is a bit pricey for E-flite but with all the R&D and getting this RC plane as close to scale as possible is expensive. 2 yr + HH project. Thanks and hope to see this plane on your videos. Best, Will
We have the Draco now, BUT we aren't allowed to review yet. This is not our choice. We will ABSOLUTELY BE REVIEWING IT ASAP! Please understand, our hands are tied...We can't even publish photos :(....

I am always skeptical with such micro flyers.
After 3 - 4 flights already a lot of pieces are broken.
I would like to see the bigger more solid jets.
I was a bit disappointed with the main gear adapters, but other than that, the tree I flew into did leave a mark - LOL
Brian your flying skills are to be commended I wish I had the confidence you do but you are also younger than me,.hehe.
Thanks!
With the 2200 4S battery and without landing gear, is the total weight less than 250g for park flying?
Humm....I didn't check. I kinda think no, but not by a super close margin, or I assume we'd have heard about it. The 2200mAh 4S 30C pack might be at the limit.
Great idea, but just not gonna work on this one ;(
Yep - 260g for JUST the battery...just checked it out.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for checking Brian.
I have been eye balling this plane for some time now but have not purchased it because I don't want to buy new 4S batteries. I do have 3S 2200's 60C's and hear this plane can fly using 3S but people with access to both is a no brainer to use and go with 4S. I do have and fly the Freewing 64mm F22 on 3S and the only complaint is 3 minute flights. I would assume it would be the same with the F-15 on 3S. I guess if one only has 3S he/she wouldn't know the difference and would become accustomed to the speed and power? What's your profession take on this if you were one stuck on a 3S budget. Do you think it's worth getting the F-15 knowing you will only fly it on 3S?
Yes 3S will work, but I wouldn't with an EDF Jet... it may be a bit lame ;) The plane is light, and will yield short flight times no matter what pack you use.
I would encourage you to consider at least one 4S pack, and you will LOVE the extra power....it's a POPULAR size, and you'll be able to use it on other applications too...but if you don't the 3S will make her fly ;)
Viewers request a video and your response is, "we'd do it if we really cared at all but we don't." lol
LOL - glad you're laughing WITH us ;)
I copied Brians rudder mod but just used one tiny drop of super glue insted of zipties it was really tight in the spring too begin with and the glue is just extra security it does leave the jet
This has been on my Radar, pun intended! 😐
I’ve seen people belly land these on the grass with landing gear removed. Do you think, with packing tape on the bottom, it would be possible without damage? My flying field is a field, that’s the only reason I’m asking.
Yes. I have had two of the e flite f16 64mm’s and the first was mg toss and boss and I put packing tape (clear packing tape) on the bottom and it worked great. Keeps the foam from crunching up and breaking off. So yes I would put a couple straight pieces on the bottom if your landing on the belly.
@@KB_RC Thank you for the info that sounds great 👍
Yes only without tape - just land her and she'll get dinged up anyway ;)
@@WildCaptures no problem man
I bought one used and read somewhere that a 3s was good for this jet and i ended up kissing a barbed wire fence when the battery quickly died! 😂
Hey Brian! What kind of material did you use for the rudder on the front wheel?
It was a plastic lid from a COOKIE container from SAM's Club. You could use just about anything clear with a bend in it so that it will keep the piece stiff and thick enough to slide into that round spring assembly at the top of the nose gear bogey.
I had one, very fragile,Broke it after the first flight..This one need a perfect long Flat landing strip
...or I need to be more careful ;)
It really doesn’t if you know how to fly a jet. Should be brought in on a high aoa, and a controlled flate at the end. And fragile? This thing takes a proper beating and flies all day afterwards. Seems like you just med more training Yan.
Thanks for the second thoughts video's...
We're trying to do more of them. I'd like to make them even farther from the maiden flights, but sometimes we get REAL busy with our responsibilities, and they get put on the back burner.
Sounds like a good excuse to fly to me.
yes
Brian what is different between nx6 , dsx 6 , dsx6e , besides price?? I just want a good radio and easy to use with my Eflite June Nite P-51!! I’m a rookie, and Very confused by tech stuff!!! Please help me so I don’t SCREW THE POOCH!!!! Your Friend, JEFF T.
P.s. I have yet to fly my Volantex mini P-51, but I have it set up and will really soon! I’m disabled, and wanted a plane like this since jr high, with the government check, I figured it’s now or Never, I’ just turned 55 on the 23rd!!!! I Really Appreciate all of your endeavors!!! God Bless!!!
Jeffrey - Okay, here's the deal, the NX6 or NX8 is where I'd encourage you to put your hard earned money. Why not a DXE???...well, they're about to be discontinued...that's why ;( Also, I've never used one...so I know really, nothing about them. Same is true for the DX line... I have the top of the line DX18 and I use the NX6 and do almost all I do with the DX18...
Here's what's around for the future, that I've been told.
NX6 - Actually 7 channels! This one is $310
NX8 - This one has 8 channels, so you'll get more life out of it. You won't need to upgrade for a long time...and it's only like $40 more... $350. This one also has an a few additional switches and a knob on the top right for making changes to gains and this sort of thing.
NX10 - You're not ready for this, unless you've got cash burning a hole in your pocket, but it's gonna be super nice.
iX12 - total overkill for you at this point in your RC experience, but if money were no object, go for it!
ix20 - extreme, total overkill for you at this point in your RC experience, but if money were no object, go for it!
NX Transmitters bit.ly/3mbVuNB
One other thing you MAY want to have, is the LARGER battery for the Transmitter. The come with the 2000mAh pack but you can get a 6000mah pack, which makes the thing run for weeks of use and inactivity for me...
Bigger Tx Pack - 6000mAh 3.7V - bit.ly/3bZ0nHW
I've done a review of setting up the NX6 and we have a review uploaded, but not quite ready for release on the NX8 coming real soon too...but dollars to donuts, the NX8 is what you need to be considering. There's a lot of minor differences, but I can tell you the ONLY one you need to know - Spektrum is going to be supporting it longer, and these things are basically computers anymore.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thankyou For helping me out, as usual you are straight to the point!!!!! I’ll talk to you once I have good news, I hope 🤞
So how long in the future to buy a updateNX6??? J.T.
How do you get over 3 min air time ? Iv had mine fall from the sky at 2:10 …only .15 shy of landing w/stock 2200 mah batt
I think the SMART packs are just amazing! Also, when I fly, maybe I'm a bit more conservative on throttle management??? Not sure. EDF's are tough on batteries. Most newer RC pilots have a hard time with throttle management (not that I know your status as an RC pilot).
Hope this answers your question, but there's a bunch of factors that COULD also contribute...
Age of lipo???
Charge when starting flight???
Possibly poor solder joint to battery plug???
Altitude where you're flying???
There’s no doubt your a super skilled pilot , and that’s is a big part of it …. I’d be crazy happy to see 3 min in the air + take off and landing ……..keep on doing your thing I enjoy watching
My wife tells me, all I do is watch Brian Phillips videos...
LOL - I'm so glad I'm the one ;)
Mr Brian do you think i could handle this plane Ive got the turbo timber and umx ultrex under my belt just wondering Thank you from Ohio
Probably, it's a lot faster than the Turbo Timber, but I think you'll be okay. You need a bit more room with this plane, and even more room if you're flying with SAFE...so just keep that in mind.
So cool this is a must buy.
I think so, but I have a" problem" ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Okey what problem??
Can you do a second video on the a10 thunderbird?
I could do a second thoughts on the A10. Not sure when you should expect it, since we have a lot in the "pipeline" right now...but we'll try to get something in the can and uploaded.
Hey Brian, did you prefer this or the T-28?
T-28...but I feel like this EDF is fun, if you setup the CG right and elevator in the INSIDE most holes for more pitch authority.
The T-28 just seems a better plane for the everyday flyer.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I appreciate you and value your opinion. You always give the planes the beans! Keep it up!
Hey Brian just curious do you have a hobby room?
Yeah, it's called a house for me - LOL ;)
I store most of my planes in the basement, but as far as a designated RC workshop...I have a few places I work on RC stuff, one of which being a simple bench in my plane storage room, but at some point I'll have a few shops (or benches) - a small project shop (for RC planes), and a large project shop (vehicles / welding / metal work), as well as a wood working shop. They're all three different sets of tools, and I like being able to have projects going on each simultaneously, even thought I'll probably keep each shop or bench clean and ready for the next project most of the time, except the large project shop, since it will likely house a full scale plane (ultralight) OR helicopter either or both of which will fly from our property...
Hope this answers your question.
UFO Being able to fly it slow is a big deal for a new timer I think. I know I still have a hard time flying slow . I always fly WTFO,and it’s not a good habit to have.when it comes time to land.
Yes, but you gotta have fun doing it, and after some nasty crashes, it will help to build some more discipline...at first discipline seems boring, then it helps a lot to avoid the worst parts of the hobby.
I was just flying with my buddy, Esteban, tonight and he needs to fly about 20X more than he does, and it kills me - he's been flying longer than I, but he never seems to improve, even though he can fly, I want him to enjoy it more, and there's a definite "wall" he's standing behind. When he gets a bit more serious, he will get over the hump, and he's really be a LOT better, but it's not something you can force. Everyone learns at a different pace, and some will get a LOT better way faster, and some will kinda just deal with the consequences of not putting in the effort. One of our big goals here on UA-cam, is to help keep people from the "one and done" situations...and to generally be encouraging to pilots. The bigger the hobby, the better. More people in it means more cool new gadgets, and more companies vying for our attention...more competition means, better prices, and better service, better models, better batteries, and more availability. It's a net win for all of us.
You've been around here long enough to see us dealing with trolls who always assume the worst about us, and it gets old, but we've got so much more on the flip side of that. Thanks Boss223!
There is definitely a wall to climb, I know some of it is crashing and throwing money out the window but I got over that by buying a 1,2 mustang and saying to my self I am going to fly this not matter what happens till the wings fall off, I still fly the plane😀today . I have been in the hobby on and off for a long time , but the last year has been the best because I totally focused my attention on it, and have improved my skills greatly. I am still climbing that wall, but it don’t look nearly as high now. You are correct a lot of people get to a point and give up,and miss out on some true joy. The technology and ease of the planes now takes out so much hassle compared to 45 years ago😃😃😃😃I think you do a grate job and are one of the top channels I watch, you the Petrincic Bros and Ryan Ramsey are the people I watch the most. THANKS😀
Just one short thing. A higher C rate will not allow a longer flight sir. For more flighttime you need more mAh. The C rating is the discharge rate. I'm sure you know that but maybe forgot it? :D
I didn't forget. I know and have know for years, but I'm not sure what you're responding too...maybe I misspoke.
Furthermore, if you run a higher C pack, you WILL in fact be allowed to burn through your available capacity (measured in milli amp hours) mAh's faster. This is because they DISCHARGE FASTER. Especially with an EDF, that's power hungry...not that this F15 is anything especially power-hungry, but it is still an EDF.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I thought you sayed in this video that u are a bit dissapointed that even with the 100c it will give you not more flightime than with the 50c but it's also possible that i did get that wrong b.c. im not nativ english and sometimes it bites me :D BTW: I enjoy your videos a lot sir. have a good time :)
So this flys ok for not having a rudder?
Sure does. The bank and yank does okay on most of these smaller jets. The rudder mod help, and super duper easy to install.
Do all options of this jet come with SAFE?
The BNF has SAFE, the PNF has no receiver, which is where SAFE is housed....thus there is not SAFE, but you can pick a SAFE equipped receiver.

I recently picked up this plane and have flown it on a 4s . The instructions say 3-4 s 2200mah lipo ... do you think this could
Be flown on a 3s ? For giggles
I fly 3s and then try 4s on this plane, I definitely recommend 4s. But 3s is ok, you need longer distance to take off, they behave slow when you are turning or even dropped a little bit.
Sure can, but I think it'd be pretty lame ;) Unless you're just learning how to fly. Might want to hand launch it so that it can get airborne - LOL ;)
Yang Cao - I read your comment after my reply - So it did take miles to get airborne on 3s?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yes and you are right, I use 3s to learn how to fly this jet. It gives me more time to think especially when landing. Afterwards, I used 2200mah 4s 50c, it was just so much fun.

@@BrianPhillipsRC This is exciting news! When I saw the Pilates I fell in love with a red plane. Seeing the Draco I decided that my next new plane isn't released yet dagnabit!. Wing skids, shock absorbing landing gear + take off and landing of only a couple feet. OMG! This Draco replica will be so much fun!
Does anyone put these vr head set cameras on these like they would use on a drone?
Yes, but I don't typically do FPV. Even if I did it, I wouldn't be allowed to do it without a Part 107 exemption...for the FAA's made up, stupid rules. I would be a perfect "example"...so I have to try to keep my nose clean ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC thats fair enough i didnt realise there were so many rules around it all i am only into rc cars atm but looking at getting my first plane so your videos are awesome to watch. Keep it up mate
👍👍👍
Thanks 3X
We don’t need to see your thumbs it’s all about feel and settings in my opinion
I agree.
Hahahaha
yes?
Extremely weak nose. Porpoise landings happen, shouldn't rip off the nose cone... I watch a lot harder landings with other f15s and no issues.
This was repaired too, keep in mind.
@@BrianPhillipsRC right, yours and a couple other you tubers have ripped off the nose in wrecks that I've seen other planes survive with no issue. It's just an observation. I like how it flies, every landing, I'm like please be perfect or will it be a nose attachment again.
When I turn my eagle on my elevators are pointing down and will barely go up past neutral any suggestions....im having all types of issues with this plane
You gotta get it bound in SAFE Select (or even AS3X only), then make the SAFE Select assignment to a switch, and turn off SAFE. Put it on a level surface and mechanically trim the elevator(s) to flat and level. When you're done with these steps, you will see that it moves up and down. If you don't do these steps in order, it will probably not work.
If you've tired these steps and the thing is still acting a fool...VERIFY the elevator stick is not screwed up on your Tx...turn on another plane and see if the elevator is weird...you might be seeing an issue with your gimbal...but this is SUPER uncommon.
@@BrianPhillipsRC yes thank you I got it level now with the control rods it just doesn't seem like there's alot of elevator with this plane but looks like it will fly I might have to mechanically adjust some more but got it so it will most likely fly now thanks alot ur the best
