Here is a compilation of various whistles and horn sound effects taken at the Talyllyn Railway, that are free to use if you credit me where they are used.
No, you're not mistaken, I've uploaded this before. But, after this summer's visit, I gained a tonne more whistle/horn recordings that made it worth updating - particularly to No.2 Dolgoch's and No.6 Douglas', as well as some combinations of engines. Besides, I needed to correct the error in the previous video saying you had to ask permission to use this - you do not.
If you do not need to use these as SFX, then hopefully they're just nice to have in the background and listen to. Either way, enjoy! - Розваги
if it’s small, old and goes toot toot. you know your in Wales.
No way to talk about Prince Charles!
hi there
man
He Spelled Sir Handel Sir Haydn
@@glassman6647 no it is a different name, he didn't misspell it
Reyvan Aprilianazhar do you know sir haydn is?
I like how whenever Dolgoch whistled, Talyllyn was quick to overpower her 😆
Exactly what I was thinking! Seems like the ladies tend to argue quite a lot
It's like "Hey-" "SHUT UP, DOLGOCH!"
@@themightyhood-4117 like Skarloey and Rhenas would do in the past
Damn 😂
Tbh Talyllyn's whistle makes her sound very bossy and young, while Dolgoch's whistle makes him sound much more wise, kinda like Lord Harry and Alaric/Eric.
The footage is beautiful, but what I really like are the silhouettes up top that indicate which engine is making what noise. Underrated professionalism tbh.
I'm relieved someone appreciates the effort that went into that! I thought it made it a little more entertaining to watch and to distinguish between the whistles. All for better presentation really! If I do a compilation, I want to do it properly! 😃
So good doing it, I think you included the second whistle Dolgoch has on a different part of the silhouette which is an amazing little feature!! Awesome Job!!!
Yes
09:43: This was the chorus of engines' whistles and horns; you never heard such a noise all your life!
Me: accidentally says a bad word in class.
Everyone in the classroom:
10:04 just hear Alf's little horn is kinda cute
Hope he’s running well
Talyllyn and dolgoch were having a whistle fight lol
But skarloey- What DiD yOu Do?!
Little moments like that definitely help me see the engines having their own characters. And imagining Skarloey and Rheneas having a spat like this is funny.

Talyllyn: what did sa!
Sir Haydn's and Douglas' whistles are my personal favorites. They just have a fantastic tone to them!!
Chime whistles are lovely.
@@Terrier55Stepney makes me wonder why there aren't more chimes in the UK
Me too!
Talyllyn and Edward Thomas' Whistles is the Best!
Sound like the A4s
7:00 This is the face you see before you enter the Melting Section of The Scrap Yard
Lol
8:11 I always found that funny. It sounds like Douglas is stuttering.
Or laughing! I fell over just before.
Terrier55Stepney HA
Yea
“He-he-he,HA HA”
Same
When Talyllyn and Dolgoch whistle at each other they sound like two old dogs yapping at one another. Don't know why, possibly because they have 2 different notes, Dolgoch being close to a Caledonian hooter in my opinion. Edward Thomas seems to have a two tone whistle. I like the chime on Douglas. It's like its trying to go 'I'm big, get out the bloody way!' When they all whistled at once, it sounded like a pack of dogs barking away. I know I already did that analogy but it's true dammit.
I love how the Thomas and friends characters, kept these pretty close whistles. Specifically Dolgogh and rheneas, and Sir Haydn and Sir Handel!
Every time when they got paired with each when they whistle feels like they are talking I love it
Beautiful, just hearing a whistle is just beautiful it better then hearing horn all day long
But a horn has the most power when it comes to warning people. With great power, comes great responsibility. They’re all about drive, they’re all about power, they stay hungry, they devour, put in the work, put in the hours, and take what’s theirs.
I know that the Thomas Creatprs went to this railway to make the Narrow Guage Engines look more realistic, and that's just incredible! Plus, Tom Rolt sound EXACYLY like CGI Sir Handel!
Tom Rolt (Ivo Hugh)’s whistle is the closest to something out of the television series
The chimes that Sir Haydn and Douglas have remind me of some logging locos that are preserved over here in the states.
Did somebody say logging locos?!
*BASH, DASH, FERDINAND*
*THEY’RE THE LOGGING LOCOS*
Music to my ears
Everything about this video puts a smile on my face. The footage, the whistles, even the silhouettes up top that actually have steam effects. Great job!
When a steam engine has two different whistle tones, do said tones have different meanings?
The lower tone whistle is usually a braking whistle, to call the guard to give braking assistance. The higher pitch is typically the regular warning whistle.
9:13 sounds like class 40’s horn!
That might be it's origin
#3 sounds like it could be the ghost train of the line
8:24 poor dog looks so startled 😂
Well done Max! :D
1:42 they were screaming at each other
Talyllyn sounds like a Number 2 Furness Railway Engine.
Dolgoch sounds like Donald and Douglas’ basis.
Sir Haydn kinda sounds like Merlin and Theo’s whistle.
Edward Thomas sounds like Talyllyn’s.
Midlander’s is the most interesting.
Douglas sounds like Stepney’s basis. It also kinda sounds like an A4 Pacific.
Tom Rolt sounds like Sir Handel’s Season 10-CGI whistle, as well as the Friendship Express from My Little Pony.
Tom Rolt’s low whistle sounds like an LMS Black Stanier, Henry’s basis.
Alf is also kinda interesting.
And Trecwn and St. Cadfan sound like Paxton’s horn.
Question. how do you know what a k2 whistle sounds like?
@@bussesandtrains1218 he doesn't, and he's incorrect. Tallylyn has a similar whistle to a Rheidol Tank.
The real K2s carried the standard FR whistle, the same one on 0-4-0 Number 20.
@@bussesandtrains1218 Um, I was meant to say Tallylyn sounded like a Number 2 Furness Railway engine lol
Dolgoch's Whistle Sounds like Skarloeys and Duncans Whistle
Alfs Horn sounds like Timothy (the Oil Burning engine)'s Whistle but a bit higher Pitch
9:43 This is just beautiful to hear, listening to all the engines whistle together!
6:11 *HEAUGH*
lol
Peter sam whistled furiously at the visitors
Edward thomas at kung fu
I have this theory about how Sir Haydn got her whistle and someone who knows more about the Talyllyn could confirm it for me. So in the Railway Roundabout special on the Talyllyn, they stated that there was a former LNER driver who worked there in the early days (forgot his name, sorry.). Either way, I think that the man took the whistle from one of the A4s before it was scrapped and later, somehow, fitted it to Sir Haydn. Not sure if it's true, someone could confirm it for me.
I believe Sir Haydn is fitted with a BR Britannia class whistle, while ones like Edward Thomas are fitted with whistles from 2 GWR Castle class locos and Douglas is fitted with a whistle from a LNER A4
1:38 the Tallylyn Railway fanfare!
0:33 Tallylyn/Skarloey
1:45 Dolgoch/Rheneas
3:45 Sir Haydn/Sir Handel
6:08 Edward Thomas/Peter Sam
6:56 Midlander/Rusty
7:05 Douglas/Duncan
8:19 Tom Rolt/Ivo Hugh (Seen in the railway series)
9:11 Alf/Fred (Not seen in any series)
9:14 Trecwn/ NO CHARACTER
9:35 St.Cadfan/ NO CHARACTER
9:42 All Engines
Alf does have a skarloey railway counterpart named Fred, but he's never seen in any media, only referenced in the Christopher Awdry story "speedkiller", where rusty had to take the weed killer because "Fred was ill", rusty decides he wants to go faster and ends up causing rheneas to slip to a stop on a hill. In addition to that, trecwn, and or st cadfan are likely a reference to the mysterious ministry of defense engine, since both of them used to work in a ministry of defense depot converted out of an old mine, or in the case of sodor, the old skarloey slate quarry.
Skarloey railway in real life
Seems like when the Thomas model series team came here to record the whistle sounds way back when, any samples they got of Talyllyn's must have been of the weaker blasts (which sound markedly different from the high-power blasts).
Loud whistles for such small engines!
Everybody loves this video and I can't stop commenting
i love the part where they all are coupled to each other and then whistling and doing like a conga line lol
That railway looks interesting
It's phenomenal is what it is!
Everyone there is very friendly. I've been going since I was tiny and just recently I was bought a life membership. Great place if you like your walks, lots of paths with great scenery. Tywyn is great as well, nice beach, good bakery and an amazing ice cream place.
The RH&DR (Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway) is way smaller.
1:25 Dolgoch’s Whistle sounds like Duncan
No like rheaneas
@@pezokasapatu9900 what about the Scottish steam engine twins Donald and Douglas? You don't want to forget about that dynamic duo
Dolgoch gained Douglas' Barclay hooter, I think. They certainly look identical
I have a feeling that sometime in the future they might introduce two new members of the Skarloey Railway who are based on Trecwyn and St Cadfan
Too bad the show was insectified.
When Sir Haydn does a long toot, it sounds like Merlin the Invisible
Their so small yet their whistles are screeching
Very good, Very good!
0:10 engines 1 by 1
0:39 Tal-y-llyn aka skarloey
1:45 Dolgoch aka rhenenass
3:45 sir Haydn aka sir handel (Stuart)
6:08 Edward Thomas aka Peter Sam (Falcon)
6:56 midlander aka Rusty
7:05 Douglas aka duncan
8:18 tom rolt aka Ivo hugh
9:10 Alf aka fred
@Casey Hoinbala oops
Sir Handel is Falcon and Peter Sam is Stuart.
:/
7:00 Midlander: tet tet
Now their are 2 new Diesels on the Talylyn Railway i wouldn't be Surprised if they introduced 2 narrow gauge Diesel's in Thomas and Friends based on those engine's to work on the Skarloey Railway
Talyllyn Railway no.8 is a Red diesel called Merseysider, and no.10 is the diesel Bryneglwys.
That Rounds out the Diesels to 6.
6 Steam Engines, and 6 Diesels. Perfectly Balanced.
Expect for the fact that there were two gasoline locomotives (petrol, if you’re British) called The Lawnmower (the original No. 5) and Charlie’s Ant (the original No. 7).
It's funny that not only does Duncan's counterpart share a name with a standard gauge engine, but Peter Sam's does with two!
Well jeepers I'm early here. That's a nice change
Welcome to the party.
Wow!, pretty cool.
My favorite whistles are 1 Sir Haydn 2 EdwardThoamas 3 Tom Rolt and the video itself is amazing! And at 6:11 EdwartThomas’s whistle sounded Almost similar as Number 1049 or “blue devil “ from the Zig Zag railway in Australia
Sir haydn whistle sounds like a A4
That's right, Sir Haydn is fitted with an A4 whistle.
@@Terrier55Stepney I think the whistle soulds lower than when in a A4 cause when I saw the video of the Union of South Africa blowing it's whistle it sounded higher. Maybe it's less steam pressure.
Terrier55Stepney what about Douglas?
It sound as though Douglas has an a4 whistle
THE FLYING SCOTSMAN AND FRIENDS
Awesome
7:02 ITS SO CUTE
Man they look like they are in armony I love it!!!!
this is intresting

Sir Haydn and Douglas whistles are the best
I love Douglas's whistle.
Douglas' whistle is AWESOME!
I think the Talyllyn railway line should extend higher up into the mountains. The higher up into the mountains, the more scenic views will be seen.
I love the little diesel’s horn!
What little diesel?

I'm going on the line tomorrow from Tywyn Wharf to Nant Gwernol. According to the timetable, I'm to go on Tom Rolt (Ivo Hugh) in the RWS
I think Talyllyn and Edward Thomas have (or did have) whistles from a GWR Castle (GWR engines having two)
1:47 sounds nice
1:39 i like how Dolgoch sounds annoyed with Talyllyn for overlapping his whistle every single time
It looks like sir handel and peter sam went back to the mountan with duke
my favorite whistles have to be dolgoch, edward thomas and tom rolt
Those would be the Magic Railroad whistles for the Skarloey Railway engines.

Dolgoch No. 2 definitely sounds like Skarloey, Peter Sam, Duncan, and Rheneas from the TV show. 🚂🚞🚞

Dolgoch's whistle completely sounds like Duncan's TV series whistle.
Trecwn's horn sounds like class 40's horn
7:20 i like this whistle
Dolgoch midlander and trecwyn was my favorite
alf just gets one fucking little shot
8:18. I am sure that is a whistle from a somewhere wales engine
7:33 Douglas with a sore throat
