  • Jinjer Perennial Live Wacken 2019 REACTION & REVIEW
    I promised to react to their LIVE performance of perennial after watching their official music video and studio version. This band continue to show why i believe they are in a class of one right now with their performance and mastery of the metal genre. Tatiana's vocals and grows were on point throughout and so was the band. This almost didnt sound a live recording is was that good! Enjoy!

      At first, I was skeptical about the line "...I'm selfless" in Pisces, because how can a frontperson be selfless? Isn't their *job* to have such a big ego (=sense of self) that it fascinates the audience and sucks them in? But as I've watched them, I've realized she really is performing more as the mouthpiece of the band and less as the star. She doesn't fascinate with her ego but with the sheer power of her passion for the art. There's always a bit of both, of course.

    If you want to see a full live concert watch Live at Resurrection Fest EG 2018 [Full Show]. If you ANY DOUBT of how hard they can rock and how good Tatiana's voice is. During 'Words of Wisdom" there's a part when she's growling, smiling and waving at the crowd, so relaxed, like she's saying "Hi, how are you? Nice to see you!."

    • @j.f.fisher5318
      @j.f.fisher5318 4 роки тому +1

      The vocal move that blows my mind is in the Gas Monkey performance of Sit Stay Roll Over about half way though she turns away for a bit, then turns around to do the chorus and does a scoop while growling on the word "stay" from middle growl to a medium-low growl, then up to a medium-high growl in a single breath. It is really cool and not something I've seen her before or since in any song.

    There is nobody on jinjer's level... there is no genre for jinjer. there their own genre.. a band that comes around once in your lifetime... Guarantee they're going to be Legends.
    Btw... love your channel and your reactions, specifically to jinjer.. I discovered jinjer a couple years ago just browsing through UA-cam and been hooked since the first time I seen them and I love watching other people's reactions their first time hearing them and as expected they're as blown away as I was.. I especially like your detailed reactions because you catch the things that I catch and I'm a musician.... Seen them twice now here in Detroit Michigan USA... Actually hung out with Tatiana Roman and Eugene on their tour bus for a powwow ... Tatiana actually flirted with me told me she was a doctor in her spare time LOL.🤣😍

    Excellent reaction, as always. Like 214!
    Everything they record for the albums that can't be replicated live or that they feel they need to incorporate live to make the songs sound as similar as possible to the studio versions, is launched by Vlad from the laptop sitting beside him: the intros to I Speak Astronomy or Words Of Wisdom, some extra guitar work in several tracks, the ticking clock on Captain Clock, etc. That said, there's something in this video that wasn't used live: the vocal harmonies in the quieter part. They were added in post. Not that there's anything wrong with that, if you ask me. ; )
    Btw, they played on a smaller stage, at 11 A.M. No kidding, 11 in the freaking morning and yet, look at that crowd!
    6:25 - Told ya! Even though she had the means to record that part in several takes in the studio, I personally believe that she did it like she did it here. The same with the seamless transitions from the screamed verses to the clean choruses. In a recent interview to BANGERTV, Eugene gave even more credit to my beliefs when he said that most of the time Tatiana doesn't prepare what she's going to do in the studio, she improvises a lot when she's recording the vocal parts.

    • @j.f.fisher5318
      @j.f.fisher5318 4 роки тому +2

      They are performing at least 150 shows this year. How did they have time to do a whole album on top of that? Partly that Tati was mostly improvising and also frequently getting the recordings done in single takes.
      It is clear listening to their body of work is that she has consistently made noticable improvements in every part of her skill set of periods of just a couple of years. Take her low growls in Who Is Gonna Be The One. That live video was filmed in summer 2017 and the low growls are hella impressive. A year and a half later she could go at least as low but sustain those growls about the way she does with the word "coma." The belting at the end of I Speak Astronomy official was great when recorded in summer 2016, but by Resurrection Rest in summer 2018 that belting was noticeably more intense. And she's been making those kinds of gains consistently for at least just over half her life.
      But I suspect that she started on that process a lot earlier and that the few months of gradeschool-level singing lessons she had as a kid are more significant than one might think. I suspect that as she was singing for fun as a kid she was using those skills and instinctively building on that foundation. She says as a kid she once screamed hard enough to cause herself a hernia. I'd bet that was taking instructions to sing from her diaphragm to their logical conclusion trying to push her body to the limit and going a bit beyond. Just a theory.
      And the guys are no slouches when it comes to growth. They have evolved and grown both as individuals and as a composing team with each album. And though some disagree I feel like at least some of the songs on Macro represent a bigger step upward for the guys than any previous release.

    I saw them live at a small club in October. North American Macro Tour 2019 was mostly small indoor clubs. Their live sound is great. Even better than studio, IMO. I've heard many bands that sound poor live, but Jinjer is built for live performances. I'd love to see them outdoors at a festival! You're lucky if you can. That's the ideal way to see them-under the stars. Outdoors spaces for soaring vocals. Almost forgot-love your reactions!

    Another enjoyable reaction - thanks!
    Worth noting Tatiana's comment at the start, "...with the next song, we must say goodbye to you. But rather, not goodbye, but see you next time." - and that's a nice synopsis of the lyrics for the song. She's a great communicator.
    This is the last song of the set but they still sound great. It's nice to see them live but I really enjoy the video "official" version too. I'm in two minds on which I prefer. The live version of "Who is gonna be the one" is an easier pick, it's amazing and I think it's clearly better than the studio version.

    • @j.f.fisher5318
      @j.f.fisher5318 4 роки тому +3

      It helps that Who Is Gonna Be The One Live is more like the 2.0 version of the song, made slower and heavier to accommodate only having one guitar. I feel like the way they perform it now is at least 2.1 if not 3.0 with Tati's more powerfully sustained low growls. She sounds like she swallowed a miniature jet engine and figured out how to modulate the blast to form words.

  • @j.f.fisher5318
    @j.f.fisher5318 4 роки тому +6

    Glad I woke up a bit early today so I could watch this on my computer with better headphones haha. There are differences when you compare it to the studio version, and it appears there is a tiny bit of post-production tweaking to add some layers of vocals to make it closer when compared to the bootleg uploaded by PetziAZ, but overall just an amazing performance. They are so good live that one might wonder if it was lip-synced but she sings the growls differently in every performance. Like that little bit of melodramatic evil she puts on "rise to live again" is something I've never heard her do in any other song or performance, such as the performance at Full Force that is out there as well (sound isn't as good though).

    I just found your channel today, and I love your reactions. The level of detail you get into is well above the norm, and I like that you touch on so many different elements of the videos. I also appreciate that you go into everything with an open mind. Jinjer into Babymetal into K-Pop? Sign me up!
    I have 2 recommendations for you, if you have the time and interest:
    One is Dir en grey, a metal band from Japan. They've been been far and away my favorite band for 15 years now. Their style has changed so much over the years I barely know where to start with song recommendations though... anything from Uroboros or Dum Spiro Spero would be a great start. I also always had a soft spot for the song 'Cage' from earlier in their career, or 'The Final' has long been a fan favorite.
    My second recommendation would be Dreamcatcher. They are a KPop group that I think you'll definitely like. I would start with 'Deja Vu' because it is recent and amazing. Then start back at the beginning and go in chronological order, as there is a story told over the course of several videos.

    I really enjoyed your reaction to Jinjer and how you get all the details and inflections. The world seems to stop turning when listening to music of that caliber. We have a band in Australia called Dead Kelly. Although they are nothing like Jinjer, they are in my opinion the most creative and entertaining band I know of plus absolutely incredible musicians. The singers name is Pine Cone Throat and lots of his songs are stories where he actually plays different characters during the song. Some songs are insanely hilarious and others nearly make me cry they are so personal and executed with so much heart. These blokes are that unique, that a little over a year ago their guitarist “The Stanley Knife” had an accident which led to his index finger on his left hand having to be amputated. I can’t even imagine how completely devastating for him that was as he is definitely one of the the best guitarists/songwriters that no one knows about.. Well........he taught himself to play with 3 fingers and they’ve just released a cracker of an album called such is life. What an inspiration!. Anyway they have 4 songs about the adventures of a truck driver named Borry I’d love to see you react to. They’re called The legend of Borry Parts one, two, three and four. I’m confident you won’t be sorry you did.

    I doubted til I saw her live. I told Roman Sept 22 in Houston at Scout Bar. Its gonna suck to see yall outside of a small venue again. You know cause the sound is louder and more intense. But congrats on the success that's made that happen.

    Spiritbox imo are their equal(both bands being super talented) in a different capacity. Vocalists are very different in style(Scream vs Growl) but I love both of these bands so much! Spiritbox has a studio version of their song/s The Mara Effect pt 1-3 which is fantastic! The Beauty of Suffering from Courtney's perspective in the vocalist booth is fantastic Bleach Bath, Belcarra and Perennial are all great music videos and fantastic songs. Wanting a Jinjer/Spiritbox tour so much!

    Periphery are an incredible band you should check out. Probably more progressive and slightly less relentlessly heavy but a huge sounding band with incredible musicians. Check the song 'Reptile' out from their latest album. It's 17 minutes long and it NEVER gets boring!

    I always go back to your reactions of jinjer. Love them all. I think either On the top or pit of consciousness should be next. Cloud factory live from 2018 is very very good also.

    New Jinjer fan here. Saw them live in Kyiv a week ago. Amazing gig. Venue was ok, sound was sick. They really are amazing, doesn't matter on what they are filmed, even shitty shaky quality phone video sounds good. Here's a little clip I shot ua-cam.com/video/8wZf8w8ecjk/v-deo.html

    They have a live set on Resurrection Fest's channel (38 min) and Napalm Records channel put up their 1 hour show from NYC. I'm not sure *how* close but Infected Rain is pretty good. I'd recommend another group but their lyrics are in Russian.

    love your Jinjer reactions keep up the good work... do the same with Cloud Factory... first the studio video, then the official live video and compare... it will blow you away same as Perennial

    it's all well and good for people to request you watch a live Jinjer performance when they already know what the studio version sounds like...the way you went about it by watching the official video and then the live version is so much more beneficial for you because you can make your own comparison...Jinjer: Outlander or Cloud Factory or....you'll probably get to them all eventually...all their songs are great

    For reference, their sound guy, is Dmitri . He used to be their drummer until they did Pisces (on Macro). The reason on Pisces you hear some voice doubling in it is because they had to re-record the Drum tracks with Vlad playing. So, you will see Dmitri when you review the tracks of Sit, Stay Rollover and I Speak Astronomy. He broke his back right before the Macro album and cannot play drums as he used to. That is the reason Vlad took over the drumming work. Oddly, Roman basically took over Lead and Rhythm guitar parts of all of their songs. That being no small feet. Both Eugene and Tatiana due most of their interviews because their most comfortable with their English at this time. You will probably notice they don't have very many songs that sound alike. And that in my opinion shows their craftsmanship more then anything else.

      And I would say, Gojira is probably at their level also, but if you ask Tatiana who are her influences or bands she likes she will tell you Gojira and Guano Apes.
