  • Here is a little video of a original BMW E30 M3 Group A car. Sources say that this was number 3 built in 1986. This is by far my favorite car in the world so my jaw dropped when I saw this in the pits at BMW CAR CLUB NORWAY meet.
    Hope to get some more video on this later. AMAZING CAR! In the heat of the moment there was some contact on the tracks. I'm not the one say anything about this since I'd choose the E30 M3 anyday :)
    Hope you enjoy this piece of history!

    Greatest BMW of all time and thank you so very much for sharing this most perfect of onboard perspectives! This driver MUST learn how to properly heel and toe downshift though...just an amazing slice of Motorsports history

      ZondaF355 - Yes agree and also needs to sit closer to the wheel he is stretching to far 😀👍

    Well, that's what happens when you don't REV MATCH on the downshift. How in the hell can some "advanced drivers" not know how to heel toe??

    Historic and rebuilt Group A E30 regularly take part in Hillclimbs. Clearly a decent car.

    I only wanna say is heel toe is not the only driving style, just the most popular. just cause you don't know how to do a heel toe by the text book doesn't mean your not an "enthusiast" I swear only internet drivers say that cause they believe anything they read on the internet >.< shit, even some professional drivers don't do a text book heel toe, even when I do it, it isn't textbook (I do it backwards, my heel does braking and toes do the gas, better control for myself), and yes heel toe does reduce shock and risk of spinning, it is not always necessary, that really goes on power of the car and how the chassis is set up, looks to me like this guy is driving this car plenty fast and probably faster then most people in this comments section without heel toeing the car. and here comes the disagreements lol

      +Robert Steffan Some off us cannot heel and toe due to physiological restrictions yhay does not mean we cannot smoke those who can right off the track lol

    Beautiful car, an E30 M3 was the first car I raced, this is why I don't do many track days, because drivers like him and the one he hit. He seems to have the hang of the dog-leg getrag gearbox (which takes practice) but can't be bothered to heel & toe on the downshifts. What a shame a real enthusiast doesn't own this car =0( swap ya for my E60?! Great video though Hesvid

    man , you've gotta be kiddin me ...
    driving a legendary mint condition M3, and not rev-downshifting ... you are fucking braking the transmission that way, and not to mention the lame shiftlock that spun you ... wtf ...
    p.s. i give a like for the nice video edit and the car itself

      ***** Not jumping on the hate train. Just saying that mastering heal'n'toe is pretty simple and that putting in an hour or so practicing it would save the owner a few transmission rebuilds and perhaps even prevent a crash. I don't get why someone would want to put down this amount of cash to buy their dream car, but not put in the effort to learn to drive it properly. It's not like he is a bad driver either. He would master it in no time if he took half as much pride in his driving as he does in his ride ...

    • @MEHeckenpenner
      @MEHeckenpenner 9 років тому +2

      Well, the braking in itself could easily be improved. Leave the clutch alone when braking and not shifting. When heel-toe is not on his skillset yet, he might simply shift down some later, when the engine speed lowered. All this will help wear and stability. And with a bit more patience, he could be more confident. These cars need to be wrestled, so you have to be patient, if you're not you'll break some things.

  • @MrDiv45
    @MrDiv45 9 років тому +3

    People saying he spun because of the downshifting? Am I the only one that saw the other car come across and hit his front end? he was already in gear with the clutch up before 'he spun'. and for people saying he's a bad driver, novice drivers are novice drivers. All start somewhere.

    • @Hesvid
      @Hesvid  9 років тому +4

      You can see the downshift at 3:30 he spins out of control because lack of revcontrol.

    Lekker bil :) elsker utvekslingen og hvordan bilen låten når han legger inn et nytt gir, høres ut som at bilen vil bryte lydmuren. Ser det er fryktelig mange som skriver det her om heel/toe for at du ikke skal ta livet av drivverket, men er ikke dette en fullspekka racer da? Skal vel litt mer til enn en litt urutinert fører for å totalrasere alt som heter drivverk? :/

    Beautiful car Beautiful engine. Quick question- Why do you not rev match the downshifts? It is very VERY hard on the trans and entire drivetrain. Equally as important it disrupts the weight distribution on the car during corner entry. Was the car badly damaged from the incident?

    I'm not a pro driver but come on, at least heel toe in that legendary racing car! My heart litterally broke when I saw how you're hurting the gearbox and the clutch :'( thats not the way you should drive a legend like the e30 m3, apart from that the car is beautiful and the sound is amazing, I really love this car!

    • @Rohkii

      Because you dont need too. and more often it harms more then helps.

    • @dln.sweeney
      @dln.sweeney 9 років тому +12

      Rohki Heel-toe is essential for driving a car with a manual transmission quickly and smoothly, I guarantee you he wouldn't have spun out if he'd rev matched the downshift at 3:30. Please explain to me how it is harmful? When done correctly it should put no stress on the drivetrain at all, which is much better than downshifting without rev-matching and relying on the clutch and synchros to do all the work, that's horrible for the car, not to mention dangerous, as shown by that spin.

    • @TWIRKNOLOVE
      @TWIRKNOLOVE 9 років тому +9

      William Snitselaar He spun out because he shocked the transmission by not heal-toeing/matching the revs.

      This is the driver writing: this was only a slow test run and far from full speed. And this was the first 5 laps ever in this car. You don`t know it all by watching a video...

    Guys, I'm struggling to believe this is an original Group A, hear me out. 1) It's had a ground up restore for sure but why hasn't it been finished in it's original colours?! (around 50% more valuable as an asset). 2) All BMW 3 stripe wearing Group A cars had the door handles covered by the light blue but these are black. There were also a lot more then 3 2.3's built. 3) If it was a DTM 2.3 car then why hasn't it got Ravaglia/Poele stickers, if it was an ETCC 2.3 why hasn't it got Vogt. 4) The first official race for any Group A E30 was March 1987.....first official rally Apr'87......all their cars were factory backed.......me thinks this is a brand new replica worth £45K tops.......originals are worth £125k+.......discuss?! Not shooting anyone down, just an M car enthusiast and fellow petrolhead

    • @Hesvid
      @Hesvid  9 років тому

      Road Runner Ranter I see you know your history :) I'm 99% sure this is a Group A car. I talked to the owner and he bought it from a racing team in Sweden (Restored). I'm pretty sure this is one of the old "Team Dynamics cars". And the restore was done in other colors and theme.

    • @roadrunnerranter9014
      @roadrunnerranter9014 9 років тому

      ***** Thanks! Funnily enough I've consulted for Team Dynamics when they were based near Prodrive, great guys. In '86 they were called VLR (Vic Lee Racing) and renamed as Team Dynamics after Vic Lee found his way into a jail cell! Doh! Matt Neal drove an ex Will Hoy E30 in 1992 entered under 'Rimstock Racing' but an E30 was never officially entered under 'Team Dynamics' as they were founded in 1993 and by then the E30 had made way for their 318is. I'd love to get to the bottom of this but I'd need chassis numbers and quite frankly it's not my car so.......a boy can dream. I could get a replica built for £40K....wanna go halves?!
