I bought a Yamaha YPG-235 a few days ago, along with a sustain pedal. Should be here in a week or so. I'm 27 years old. Getting to the party a little late, but I always wanted to have the time to learn and now I do, and I'm super motivated to do so. Couldn't afford the DGX-660 on a Veterans Affairs disability paycheck, unfortunately... But hopefully by the time I've got a solid fundamental base down, I'll be able to pick up the DGX-660. Looks like the best digital piano under $1,000, which is precisely what I'm looking for when I finally make a $500+ purchase for a piano.
Yes, as a matter of fact they do. I found a bunch last night. You can almost do an old timey theater with all the built in sound effects; doors slamming, tires squealing, gun shots, dogs barking, wind, chimes, applause, trains. I have no idea why all that is in there. lol
+Mike Beal I originally wrote that comment as a joke, but when I ended up buying this keyboard, I fell over laughing when I discovered that there is a full, dedicated dog voice patch. Why??? :) Otherwise I absolutely love the piano sound!
A helicopter and a cell phone ringing is mandatory...well, except for me, I normally have those sounds going on in the background naturally while I am trying to play..
Its just to add convenience & features... The, “ ‘apple’ isn’t the only company w/ tablets” issue revolves around issues w/ android. Yamaha will NOT deal with jail broken issues caused on an apple, so....... Convenience so long as its without overhead? LOL. ☝️ I wish it worked for others, but admit I have an iPad so.....
I've had mine less than a week and I'm impressed. Although they needed a full online video series on using all the features. The instructions are cursory so you're going have to explore on your own.
I am hopefully getting the 660 soon and I am very exited! (Right now I only have a Roland E-16 synth) and I will hopefully will be uploading some piano covers to my channel
Best digital piano🎹 under $1,000..Don't expect great Rhodes tho...(Tremelo Rhodes with layered "Sweep Pad") is the best you're gonna get,,,,,but the piano sounds are full,,,,honest,,,authentic & pronunciation is on point as well as the 88 weighted keyboard with an extraordinarily great feel mimicking a real grand from top to bottom..This piano sounds great coming out of its internal speakers but u may need to EQ if you're going into the house🏠or external speakers (suggestion,,turn mids down a lot & focus on bass & treble to even the tone & simulate what it sounds like just playing through the internal speakers..... But my favorite is the 192 note polyphony,,,, so u really have more than enough room to express yourself whether you're split &/or layered &/or with a drum pattern...Most of the drum tracks sound cheesy like a radio shack Casio but there's some that're useful....But to fix that,,,,,( I depend on my MX61 for drum tracks,,,,,,,, it's way more realistic & it's basically a Motiff without a sequencer),,,,anyways....The DGX660 has an aux in which is great for practicing &/or gigs.. Unfortunately the "Live Strings" as a layer with piano doesn't hold it's sustain but if u choose strings from the GM set,,they will sustain as long as u hold the pedal. So I go with "Natural Grand" & "Legato Strings",,, "Warm Strings" or "Stereo Slow Strings" to get the sustaining effect to match the pianos sustain hold.... (Which means,,,when the piano decays,,,the strings will still be there as long as u hold the pedal).....Piano room is cool but u can't layer it with anything..Further note,,,since there isn't 2 jack outputs for left & right,,,,get a stereo 1/4 inch to 1/4 inch "Y" connector to get the full effect of stereo when u go external (with 2 speakers of course)... But I'm very happy with my purchase & anything that the DGX660 falls short of,,,,im not even trippin' because I have a Yamaha MX61 on top of the DGX660,,,so by those powers combined,,I am Captain Planet lol ✊👏😅💩🗿
I went to Guitar Center to buy a keyboard today and found this one. I wanted to buy the instrument, but unfortunately, they didn’t have any stocks. Then I came back to my place and ordered this one with pedals and wireless adapter through online.
Those asking if it has arogan and so on: Yes it has. But: You have to know that this is a piano, therefore it's for people who likes the feeling of playing a real piano. So the keys are very heavy to play organ properly. You can play, i play but you can never play very fast things as easy as you can do with a real organ keyboard. In my case i want it just as it is and i can enjoy any kind of instrument it has but with the limitations of big and heavy keys compared to a normal keyboard.
The keys are fully weighted BUT this model has 3 settings was one of my necessities when we started looking so I could teach my granddaughter - once learned she’ll be able switch easily between regular and digital pianos as well as any play any keyboard. It’s always harder going from keyboard to a piano. I hope you hung in there.😊
I really like the fact that the DGX-660 has a microphone input jack. I have a Yamaha DGX-640 and was wondering if it is possible to upgrade my piano to include a microphone jack. Thank you.
What is your opinion of the Yamaha YPG 235. That is currently what I am using however I am in the market to upgrade to a digital keyboard $1000 and under with this be your top recommendation.

Before I buy this one ... is there anything on the way anytime soon from the DGX LINEUP? I don’t wanna buy this one then a few months later Yamaha comes up with a new lineup from DGX...this happened to me before just right after I did buy the DGX650B... so Yamaha plz be honest with me ...
I've heard rumors that in the very begining of the next year Yamaha will start selling new piano. So I'm waiting for few months and will waiting for new information.
Hey, around minute 3:44 an app is mentioned, Note Star or something like it, I can't get the name and can't find anything similar in the apple store; can anyone provide the name of the app?
I apologize everyone. I must have misread the question. I don’t think you can record your voice. There isn’t a microphone. In fact the recording equipment built-in is pretty crude and I have abandoned it I purchased a zoom recorder and am working to get it set up to record my practices and such. One piece of advice; don’t use a cheap USB drive on this keyoard. Get a faster one and it works a whole lot better. They’re not expensive. Again I’m sorry for the bad comment.
Interesting piano/keyboard mix for a budget... But sorry - I really don't understand, why in 2016 Yamaha is still using this low-res monochrome display. Color may not be needed to display settings and sheets - but upgrading to some resonable resolution display can't be that much investment in times, where you get 400ppi touchscreens in any medium priced smartphone.
+Thorsten E. Gebuhr Just ordered my 660 to replace my 650. Yeah, the display isn't great, but connect to an Ipad Air 2 anyways so it's at eye level when reading music. It does it's job. The 660 is what the 650 should have been. You can buy the 660 for 800 bucks. Great value.
That`s only useless show off. Same happens with a computer or a stupid iphone. You keep the iphone to useless show off and i stay with a useful computer. I don't give areal shit for touching scheens , what i want is a good service in sound and in all concerned to music and never to those useless little boys toys to play with.
According to the Yamaha website the app can work with the CSP Clavinova, some of the later CLP Clavinovas, SILENT Piansos, TransAcoustic Pianos. AvantGrand, P-Series and some of the Arius YDP pianos. The pianos will need to have v.2.0 of the firmware installed.
Hi, I've recently bought this piano and very pleased with it however i have a small problem, when i connect the piano to my audio interface (focusrite scarlet 2i2) through phone out jack with 1/4" trs cable (line out selected in piano interface) sound comes out low (audio interface is connected to jbl lsr 308 monitor speakers) compared to its internal speakers. I mean it can get louder but then it starts clipping. Any solution for this. I am planning to get a keyboard amplifier but i am afraid to have the same issue there too.
Did you check the setting functions where you can control the volume for the left hand side or right side, or many other things, i guess i saw something to control the audio out and audio in
You might have to take the signal from the piano out to both the two inputs as they work as mono inputs, once u connect left to the left input and right input you get proper input. Hope this helps you! I also had the same issue with my UMC202HD.
It has great piano sound and great organs and great saxos as well as flutes. However in my opinion y¡the best are the piano and the saxophones! What i don't really like much are the styles . I guess there is a lack of taste for the way the styles are arranged. In that point i am disappointed, however i had the 650 and now i have the 660 and left the 650 to a friend of mine. I changed to this one only because of the microphone facility so that with the keyboard itself i can record noiseless music fast and clear. For this price can't ask for much more
great product from yamaha ..........the black body should have black colored speakers , the white speaker cones doesn't look that good with black body.............
It's my first piano and I bought it three months ago and have been using it daily. I would say it's most attractive feature is the price but if you're interested in anything professional, stage performance or recording capability, this won't cut it. My main complaint is the speakers are weak. I'm hoping some day to buy a piano amplifier but they cost as much as this piano. The recording interface is really rudimentary. I mean bare bones giving you almost no ability to manipulate files on the piano itself, be it naming or location on a thumb drive. There's even a major acknowledged bug on recording your playing with all these background accompanyist patterns it offers. For your first piano, one you plan on replacing as soon as you earn a better one, it's probably better than anything out there.
What I mean is you can't use the instructions given to record yourself playing with one of their accompanying patterns. You go to their website and they have a workaround which is as lame as the faulty instructions. I eventually got it to work but it was so clumsy you begin to think, "Maybe I'll do without this feature." Here's the link to the work around; Recording a Song with Accompaniment and Melody faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/index/id/7061/?search_query=660¤t_page_id=1
I'm also trying to check what piano keyboard to buy as a beginner. As i go through youtube reviews, i guess s670 is good for professionals/composers. I know dgx 660 is almost outdated but i like its feature and also i'm after of the weighted keys. So i guess i have to go for dgx 660.
If it has no "fingered on bass" (possibility playing chords with bass tone preference), it sucks same as its predecessors. And what about LCD? This LCD is 10 years old or more (first DGX has same one). Even shitty tablets have much more better - bigger, color, touchsence... Why Yamaha things that musicians are stupid and they can not get present technology?
"You get what you payfor" Low to midrange instrument that sounds stellar and supposedly feels okay is really nice. If you want top of the range, you'll pay for it accordingly.
This is the XXI century, Yamaha please include a high-resolution full-color touch screen for God's sake. That old screen from the 80s is a shame. Shame on you Yamaha, shame on you
Well i will be honest with you : I'm disappointed... I owned a dgx 220 for a long time and it had the exact same sounds this model has (well , almost). It is possible that since the 220 there were absolutely NO improvements in sounds ? As much i like Yamaha this just doesn't worth it. Sorry. Let's be honest for $200 more i can get a Kurzweil sp 5-8 with far more superior rohodes , organs and brass'.
Nice singing! But the singer is NOT the instrument, which has lovely piano sounds for the price, but a very mean six track recorder (Even basic Casios costing less than half the price have 17 tracks!) and a really tacky non-touch mono screen tinted blue as a disguise. Note, there is no demonstration of other sounds than the piano and drums. That's because they are based on very poor, ordinary GM/XG samples that are decades old (probably). This keyboard could have been so good but as usual Yamaha wants lots more cash so puts its decent samples into machines costing four times the price of this one.
I agree. I love the piano sample, and I love the touch/keys..As far as the rest of the GM sounds they are very average. That all being said, for the cost it is an excellent digital piano and sounds better than many costing twice as much.
There's a problem with the style 144 English Waltz, you can hear a shshhh sound when playing it with the chords. It's terrible, I hope yamaha can refund me 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Forciplier got to be honest I have the white PG 235 and I love it.
Update? Does the YPG-235 have the “band members join in” accompanying feature ?
It's just not fair, pairing this piano with such a talent voice and player. She could sell any piano. Great job!
It's love at first sight, Amazing modern piano support by technology and great sound
Yeah but do any of the drum kits have a dog bark sound
Yes, as a matter of fact they do. I found a bunch last night. You can almost do an old timey theater with all the built in sound effects; doors slamming, tires squealing, gun shots, dogs barking, wind, chimes, applause, trains. I have no idea why all that is in there. lol
+Mike Beal I originally wrote that comment as a joke, but when I ended up buying this keyboard, I fell over laughing when I discovered that there is a full, dedicated dog voice patch. Why??? :) Otherwise I absolutely love the piano sound!
+Mike Beal.. They are there because its also GM (General Midi) compatible..hence the SFX bank of sounds.
A helicopter and a cell phone ringing is mandatory...well, except for me, I normally have those sounds going on in the background naturally while I am trying to play..
;__))
Is Yamaha aware that Apple is not the only existing company with tablets and phones? Someone tell them.
Hello?!? This is a piano, not a tab or phone
Its just to add convenience & features... The, “ ‘apple’ isn’t the only company w/ tablets” issue revolves around issues w/ android. I think they highlight this because of GarageBand.

is this the one that has the bouncing ball for learners to know which note to play next?
This is the keyboard for me. I won't have to upgrade when I become more experienced in playing
October yes I well definintly get it.
Ci sono nuovi style da acquistare o scaricare per il piano dgx 660?

Read the reference manual

is that Hayley Williams from Paramore?
What do the choir sounds (AKA imitation human voices) sound like? Are they good? What kind of "ohhs and ahhs" can they sing? Thanks! :)
They are pretty bad. I've never been impressed with the synthesized choir vocal selection offered by Yamaha. They excel in a great many areas, but not there.

There's even a major acknowledged bug on recording your playing with all these background accompanyist patterns it offers.
For your first piano, one you plan on replacing as soon as you earn a better one, it's probably better than anything out there.
Mike Beal What do you mean when you say there's a major bug on recording your playing wiyh background accompaniment?
What I mean is you can't use the instructions given to record yourself playing with one of their accompanying patterns. You go to their website and they have a workaround which is as lame as the faulty instructions. I eventually got it to work but it was so clumsy you begin to think, "Maybe I'll do without this feature." Here's the link to the work around;

DGX 660 or S670? Im a beginner
Dgx 660 is much better
I'm also trying to check what piano keyboard to buy as a beginner. As i go through youtube reviews, i guess s670 is good for professionals/composers. I know dgx 660 is almost outdated but i like its feature and also i'm after of the weighted keys. So i guess i have to go for dgx 660.
I've this piano. need some help!!
can I record my own singing in this? if yes!! then how?
Plug in the mic set up the echo and record
You can also save it to a USB drive
❤️❤️❤️ So toll Sarah 💋😘❤️

Is there a way to record vocals on this? I know you can preform with it but like I literally cannot record anything by simply hiting record
Have you watched the other tutorial videos on this subject?
Yamaha's support is terrible. I bought a digital piano and it was impossible to get any kind of support.
"optional" wireless connector.. so unless you BUY this, its the same as-the 650 ..

Sorry. Let's be honest for $200 more i can get a Kurzweil sp 5-8 with far more superior rohodes , organs and brass'.
i like yamaha but so expensive 😰

Who's the chick..? She's really good & cute too~!!!
