Roland Fantom G to Midi Controller Performance set up

  • In this video I wanted to show you how to hook up a midi controller to the Fantom G and have the Fantom G supply separate sounds to the midi controller than what is currently playing inside the Fantom G. This function is a very cheap way to expand your keyboard rig and get more work out of your Fantom G. I hope it helps you guys!
    PLEASE SUBSCRIBE IN 2023!! More content coming soon!!

    Roland needs to come out with that Organ board for the G series They will make money too. Just for the customers you know. You're always appreciated Mr Diaz Thanks a mill.

    Hi Ed - it's so good to see another G video from you. Makes me feel Roland have not totally abandoned it, although it is nice to have some confirmation in seeing it listed a s 'legacy' on the Roland US site. This was a really handy video, and the kind of depth for flexibility that I love to see.
    Sometime, someone (not me) will go into the synthesis side and demo making custom sounds..
    All the best you and yours.

      @@EdDiazKeys Thanks, Ed, it worked great, only took ten minutes! It works as planned! A full bass, plus 5/7th of a piano at the same time! Or a bass, two octaves of both piano and organ, plus an octave of a synth or sax! Our 3-piece band is going to sound even more awesome!
      It feels like it took forever to learn the DS, being a bass player. But now, with the help of a lot of folks, you included, we're covering stuff no other bands having five or fewer people can touch! We all three sing, lots of harmonies too.

    I am still using Roland Fantom X-7 with Piano Expansion Board plus sometimes Roland PK-5 1 or 2 all at once. Waiting for Roland allow us to use the USB to control MIDI using the cheaper USB hub rather than the becoming too expensive Midi Patchbay. Gracias, Ed for sharing this idea, too!

    • @EdDiazKeys
      @EdDiazKeys  10 місяців тому

      Hello, I don't believe there will be a way to sync transpose. My suggestion would be to create a patch with the transpose written into the patch. That would be the easiest way. However, make sure and have the transposed key wriiten into the name of the patch so there is no confusion.

    Hi Ed, great video. One question though. I know you can split the keyboard and have different sounds over the Fantom keyboard but can you split the keyboard on the controller keyboard and have a different sound on the upper section of the keyboard compared to the sound you have on the lower end? This is not layering the sound as your video shows but it is splitting the keyboard. Cheers, Paul.

    • @narekmusic
      @narekmusic 9 років тому

      Hi Paul, unfortunately that option is not gonna work with a simple midi controller. The problem is, since your midi controller is controlling only one midi channel, you won't be able to split different channels to different split section of the keyboard. However, depending on what kind of midi controller you have you can also use splits on your midi controller to control different splits. For example: if you have another fantom s/x/g (I don't know why one would waste an entire workstation) you could assign different section/splits of on workstation to another one.
      I hope this answers your question

    • @NeilWall
      @NeilWall 9 років тому

      EurasianeyesBand The Arturia Keylab can split channels at a given note and give the effect you want - but a simple controller will not, as Narek says below. I'm not sure about the Novation controllers.

    • @Holmbendtsen
      @Holmbendtsen 8 років тому

      +Narek Keyz. .... and it is such a shame. I used to use a Motif as my main board and it did the trick.

    • @britesynth
      @britesynth Рік тому

      I think you can, same setup as splitting it on the main board the only difference is the channel assignment
      E.g.
      Ch1 main keyboard
      Ch2 brass assigned to c1 - c3
      Ch2 lead assigned to C#3 - G9
      All you have to do is adjust the key ranges

    Prashik Bhosale DO NOT BUY A ROLAND FA-08! I made the mistake and bought a Roland FA-06. I took it back to guitar center within 2 days. it's a brittle piece of crap. I returned my FA 06 and just held down the extra money and bought myself a real keyboard...i bought a Roland G8 for 2Gs at Guitar Center. A Fantom G is built rock solid my friend. & there's so much more you can do with a Roland G than with a FA keyboard. The FA boards are extremely Limited far as what you can do with it and especially with sampling
