Started out my first test 4 weeks ago at 24, I’ve been working really hard so I can get into the academy. I just retook it, I made it to 41! I’m so proud of myself. Everyone keep working at it in your free time and you’ll be sure to improve 💪. Most importantly, don’t give up!!!
@Johnny S How the hell are they a failure for improving on their pushups? What do you gain from shitting on someone for no reason? You're just making the world a worse place with that attitude.
What was your schedule to make it to 41? Did you do the cadence pushups several times per day? Did you do regular pushups in sets? Did you use weights on your back? What was your program? Thanks!
Thanks for posting this! Son is in Sea Cadets and are moving to this. Did it with him and got 41. Going in cadence is definitely harder than going at one’s own pace!
Listening to this gives me memories of my cadet days... I used to do this every morning and night two weeks leading up to the pfe. Needless to say, I would always train up to the max and was well prepared
Im doing the 1776 pushup challenge through Wounded Warrior (accumulate 1776 pushups over the month of July, so about 60 a day). I can do 30 consecutively at the cadence right now. Hoping by the end of the challenge to be able to grind out all 60.
I’m working hard to get into the academy, on day 3 I am at 41 and am doing push-ups and sit-ups every day to get a perfect score on my pushups and sit-up test. Thank you for this video to help me prepare!!
@@justkevdc well, you are not far from 60. I think you will do fine considering you are already that close. You will have adrenaline helping you, plus, you will be in a competitive atmosphere.
Wow Curtis! This is definitely a challenging twist on the PFA. I'm going Navy however I certainly respect the difficulty in this test! I normally do 75 in the morning at my own pace but at this tempo I'm hitting 45. Thinking about integrating this into my current routine.
Your morning routine is pretty good. This will definitely help you gain more endurance. With consistent efforts, your numbers will increase until you hit that 60 with no problem. Then, you'll have to start doing this routine twice!
@@Curt.Francis absolutely! Once I achieve that I'll have no excuse for not getting an outstanding on the PFA! Thank you for posting this video! I'll keep you posted on the progress 💪😁
I don't know what the Navy did but yeah, these controlled push-ups add a degree of difficulty. One thing to note, you don't have to bring your chest all the way down to the ground, you just have to make 90 degrees at the elbows.
Heads up to everyone applying for uscga, it's slightly different now. The cadence only tells you when to go down. Then, instead of saying up, it just says the number, so you can push up anytime before the voice says down again.
I've managed to get 42. Those first few pushups seems like it will be a piece if cake to get to 60. Then around 20-25, you start to feel the burn, which is really when the work begins.
Good stuff Joel! As long as you are consistently working toward the 60 pushup goal, you will get it with time. Be sure to supplement push ups with back and core exercises. It helps a great deal. Keep pushing! Pun intended.
Nice! Definitely keep it up. I just started recently on this cadence and it's definitely a challenge to start late! I applaud the effort. We need more devotion and hard work to goals.
I always considered myself to be in decent shape. 38 situps, no problem. 1.5 miles in 12:51? Ill be there huffing and puffing. But more than 16 pushups? Impossible. Forget the rest days from now on because they dont seem to be helping.
Would you share your stats that got u in. Basic info like gap, test scores, sports and if you attended AIM or not and your PFE score? I’m just curious because I’m going into my senior year of HS and getting ready to apply for early admissions July 15th. I understand if ur not comfortable sharing that info just
@@Justin-si8ib I’m going into my senior year too!! Are you attending any of the AIM sessions this summer? Also, I wish you luck with early admissions!!
I have actually. I was at AIM week 1 this year, couple people got all 60. One of them was in my group, he was counting down out loud for at least the last 15.
@@reece_harding That is maybe because you just started and your arms and chest are not used to it yet. I recommend you do some core and upper body strength training to assist with your push up journey. You will get better over time with consistency.
@@BradenZukowski its harder to max without taking breaks. I used to max the army pt test and I can max the current navy one but I probably wont be able to max without breaks
Once you get off cadence, then it is immediate termination. So no rest - only pushups on cadence count. Any mistake (not full range of motion, not on cadence, etc) ended counting. Hope it helps
Idk bout coastguard but for the Naval Academy you can miss one pushup but you must remain on cadence for all the others. you can not rest or leave the front leaning rest position at all. you place a shoe on its side directly under your sternum and one rep is successfully touching the shoe and coming back all the way up until your arms lock.

I'm in the same boat. It's weird hearing it there (from the PFE during AIM) and also in my living room, haha.
Ben Doehler Hey Ben.

I heard the navy changed their prt to something like this. Definitely more challenging than just busting out 80-100 push ups

Thanks for the video. Started at 19. Hopefully I can double that at least for the academy.
