BEST Nasi Lemak & BEGGAR Chicken Cooked in MUD!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 тра 2018
- You can't come to Malaysia without having Nasi Lemak, and my local friend took me to one of Kuala Lumpur's most iconic chicken and Nasi Lemak places, Village Park Restaurant.
The next stop was at a hidden mom and pop restaurant that makes a specialty that's rare to find in Malaysia, and that's beggar's chicken. To get it, you have to make your order a day in advance, and the cooking process is exceptionally unique like no other.
Crazy enough, this chicken that I'm eating was covered in mud and cooked in the ashy dirt to achieve its tender, juicy flavor. I also ordered the pork and sticky rice dishes that underwent the same process, and they were equally, mind-blowingly, delicious!

Mike's friends are the coolest people walking. Rick is awesome, enjoys in his own laidback way. I'd have let him have the cap of the wintermelon soup bowl lol he's showing me all these great local dishes.
Here in Europe we have an almost identical way of cooking trout to that beggar's chicken. It's a traditional way of cooking, when you are up in the mountains fishing and you don't have many utensils with you. You clean the fish, then you wrap it in leaves and you pack it in mud and then throw it in some charcoal and cover it. It takes much less time than a whole chicken, maybe an hour or two and it tastes absolutely delicious...
yea we here in Austria normaly cook potatoes and sausages this way. I live next to the danue (big river that crosses many countries of Europe ) and this method ist typical to cook food on the rivers beaches. During a party or fishing.
Maybe as a Malaysian I'm biased, but your Malaysian foodventure series has been simply AMAZING 😍😍😍
WELL, I GOTTA ADMIT...YOU'VE BECOME ONE OF MY BEST UA-camRS...YOU DESERVED IT BROTHER...GOODLUCK IN THE FUTURE!))☺☺

My coffee and chocolate chip cookies weren't that bad until I started watching this video. Why are all these good food are on the other side of the world?
Hey man big fan love the videos keep em coming, I just wanted to point out the guy you have been doing these Malaysia food vids with is AWSOME! his smile and good energy really adds
been waiting for your malaysia upload... within 30 secs i knew that was village park... one of my top 3 best food in the countires i've travelled
Rick has given you the best suggestions and he is so natural and straight forward.
Rick is the best!!!
I will never look at a Sunday dinner the same again. My mouth is literally watering, I need to do something similar with my chicken.
I'e eaten many dishes from cuisines all over the world and echoing a recent video lamb biryani is almost at the top of the list, but beaten hands down by beef rendang for my vote as the best dish in the world. Cooked for hours and hours, the beef melts in the mouth. Shame that your taste of rendang was just a bite and moved on to next dish. Rendang is legendary.
Sean H it is not the real rendang bro, of course he moved away, no offence to all my friends in Malaysia, but you guys should learn how to cook proper rendang before call it your own,,real rendang is come from padang west Sumatra,
ryan fiesta buddy, our rendang has influence from all the cultures here. It's different from what you call rendang
Arvin Gw if it is different then why you call it rendang? Don't you guys have other word ? Here in Indonesia we also have coconut rice but we don't call it nasi lemak,
so what? you want to claim our traditional cuisine? typical indonesian.....
zulkifli abdul hamid come on bro, we got a lot of other thing , we don't need to claimed anything, please do me a favor named me one thing that actually Malaysian that we claimed, rendang, reog, Rasa sayange, that a few thing that actually ours and you guys shamefully call your own, but in rendang case, cnn never call Malaysian rendang the best street food in the world, because they knew it is just a knock off , a nantion with Rich culture would never claimed other nations culture, hands down to Singapore, they sell nasi lemak there but they still call it Malaysian dish, but Malaysian never call rendang Indonesian dish,
The only place you shouldn't have nasi lemak is from McDonald's lol
Lol good to know. I almost ordered nasi lemak in Kuala Lumpur McD's but their prices were same as America
Yes agreed! Rather spend on Rm1-2 banana leaf street pack nasi lemak...
Thank you Mike for your fun and educational videos. My granddaughter and subscribers. You have shown us much about International cuisine. Keep up the great work! Happy travels. Cant wait for next video.

You are really a professional food hunter. Seen some videos. You have made contacts with all locals of the country too. Really professional planning. You deserved to have a TV show. Seriously a TV show or a documentary series.
I started fasting today and i'm watching delicious food videos...
I really enjoyed your local friend. He was such a friendly person to watch. So humble. Loved all the food and wanted to bite through my phone tho...bruh😪
I’m from Johor, Malaysia. The ingredients for the mud chicken is a bit different. The broth is more translucent but glad you get this try this dish. One of my favourite.. very difficult to get too. We have it once a year
Mikey, you make food seem so much more heavenly. Have you ever been to Italy? Cause the authenticity of that food is off the charts! Keep being amazing, Mikey, can't wait to watch your next adventure!

thanks for coming to malaysia!!!! we welcome you always!!!
My mouth kept watering throughout the entire video 😭
What an interesting process... i've never seen something like this.
For years, I've cooked 'hot and fast'. Sometimes, though, that method doesn't give the best results. Lately, I've been going, 'low and slow', and been amazed at the results, Both have a place in cuisine. I wonder how the clay coated foods compare to salt-crusted? Awesome food tour, Mike!
MsKestrela I think it depends on the type of food you're making :)
I've heard of a type of northern european food (icelandic I think?) where they literally cook it in dung (ie poop). Heard about it from the episode where mike is talking to man v food guy eating hot pot.
Clay cooking locks the flavour and moisture fully.
Salt coated method are mostly used in grilling or high temperature cooking as the salt withstand high temperature while keeping the moisture in the food.
Love the new intro!!!! Ur a youtube rock star. Or baked mud clod. Either is good.
“My chicken, my responsibility...” 😄🥰
I love that chicken preparation. Its awesome
Nice vid Mikey
Thanks dude. Right after watching this I was in the mood for Thai Chicken. I went right over and had Chicken Paradise... Now I am massively full!!
P.S. I can’t say enough nice things about the Thai community where I live. The nicest people.
Oh my I want to go KL now! Food looks delicious 😋
The people in the background of your videos that turn around and look into the camera are the best!!! 😂😂😂

Great video, awesome food thanks guys!
Love the Condor Hero Return (part 2)
I love love LOVE wintermelon soup!! Best one I had was in Hong Kong!! 😍😋
Welcome to Malaysia, the haven for foodies
The thing that amazes me about all these countries you go to is that these meals require a lot of time to prepare. What you said about the fish, and how they removed the bones, and added tofu--I just can’t see a restaurant in the US taking the time to do that, can you? Thanks for sharing your meals with us. Pat
Awesome chicken... similar method is used in Indian state called Rajasthan where it is cooked in hot desert buried inside it...wish you visited it..it's a non veg heaven...love your videos
I went to a Malaysian restaurant in Amsterdam a while ago and had Nasi Lemak. It was delicious! Gonna go and have it again soon.
Great watching! Was gonna settle down to bed... But now I'm hungry.
