Rolex is about to learn a very difficult lesson. We have new generations of potential customers coming and they aren’t going to continue to be treated this way for $15k for a stainless steel watch. It happens quickly. They better remember how they got here.

    Hi
Brendan, another great video, I love watching and listening. Rolex is just a printing money machine & the prices will just keep going up, and people will definitely keep paying the price, and most people are willing to purchase from a grey market dealer and pay even more and there are happy so you can't blame Rolex

How funny is it that when you visit a Rolex AD you have to dress up and make out you are something special so the Store assistants don’t look down their nose at you and judge on whether or not you are worthy of buying a Rolex even though they are on approximately £13 an hour. The world is nuts 😂

Do you have any thoughts when a Rolex Coke has its bezel swapped out for a Pepsi and resold. Does this stealth tactic (esp without papers) make a watch more saleable / fetch a higher price ceteris paribus? When papers are sold with the watch, surely a dealer can verify the original bezel colour as I have asked and 3 in 4 say dont know or refuse to answer.

Hi Brendan when you think about it is pure genius buy Rolex because it controls the demand buy controlling the bracelet type and by probably prejudicing less green basil submariners can change you a premium and you want it more.and the reason they don't increase the price of the Pepsi and sprite is it's like playing the two pence slot machine in the arcade eventually after you put enough two pence in the machine a a clump off money will fall off the edge and you will win. Like being offered a are Pepsi or Sprite GMT after waiting for years and spending lots of money you get a reward for spending your money with Rolex. Great video thanks John.

Hi Benny, sorry you thought our conversation was heated, but I'm curious to know how I was only "half right" since I clearly specified my AD allowed me to recently purchase oyster bracelets for my sprite and sky, both of which were originally sold on jubilee. I even said my AD stated no jubilee bracelets would be sold for watches that came on oyster originally. I did feel like you were being rude and dismissive which was uncalled for when I was simply trying to update you on their new policy, based on my own experience but also as announced by Hodinkee Radio after this years' Watches and Wonder. Black bezels are made in higher numbers than the green bezels.
Bigger volume means lower price for raw materials, batch sizes are larger and changeover settings faster. All manufacturing stuff which makes up a unit cost. Then Rolex need a certain % margin based on manufacturing costs.

The £450 extra for the green is irrelevant anyway as you can’t get the green at retail. The answer lies in the grey market value as the green commands a much higher price than the black due to supply & demand scarcity for the green. Rolex are just piggy backing off the grey market mark up for the green because they can.

Hi Brendan, just to get off on the right foot; I am not a "fanboy" or hardcore defender of watch brands.
Why is the Destro more money? One could argue development, manufacturing of a different datewheel ( the only different part in the watch, upside down). They will also manufacture the datewheel for service so they can service this, most likely short run watch, for decades.
Also, their watchmaker have to change their "brains" to lefty everytime they assemble a batch of Destros (setting the hands 12 hours off) most likely a small thing, but certainly will take a few minutes more per watch, same with QC, did the watchmaker do everything right?
As far as the no bracelet upgrade, it is certainly annoying. For several of my watches from other brands I have multiple options of original straps, bracelets since I like to swap. Here, I really do believe it is an attempt by Rolex to curb the Grey Market since jubilee goes for much more than oyster. I honestly think this policy would go away if the grey market would disappear in a few years, let's wait and see.
Grey market, in my opinion is not good for Rolex 9r the watch industry in general. Watches are ment to be worn, not used as quick flip investments.
